BR eyes 'very talented' €8m star who almost joined LFC in 2011.

With Jamie Carragher winding down, Sebastian Coates failing to impress, and the Agger/Skrtel defensive partnership still prone to mistakes, Liverpool are still on the lookout for new central defenders, and the latest player linked with the club is FC Dnipro centre-back Samuel Inkoom.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Brendan Rodgers is interested in bringing the Ghanaian international to Anfield.

A move away from the Ukraine would certainly seem to be on the cards, especially after the comments this week from Inkoom's agent, Christian Emile, who revealed:

“Samuel is not happy with his situation at Dnipro, because it's not acceptable for a player of his calibre. We are talking about a very talented young player who has represented Ghana more than 30 times.

"Clearly, the only solution for him now is to move to a European club where he can play an important role and succeed.”

Liverpool have been linked with the 23-year old several times in the past, and in 2011, Inkoom claimed that he was close to signing for the club:

"My agent is still locked in talks with my club and a scout of Liverpool and very soon a deal could be concluded. Nothing has been decided yet on whether I will join Liverpool on loan or move permanently.

"Liverpool is one of the biggest names in football and so if everything goes well and the Lord allows it, everyone will see where I am going and hopefully, it will be Liverpool, which will be a big step up for me"

Inkoom - who cost the Ukrainian side $10m (£6m) - is also being chased by Chelsea and West Brom, is yet to make a league appearance for Dnipro this season, and in an interview last week, he revealed that there are problems between him and boss Juande Ramos. He told Happy FM:

“I’m not playing at Dnipro not because of my form but I’ve got issues with Juande Ramos,”

The versatile defender can also play on the right side of defence. Worth a bid?

  1. id say he was a right back who can paly centre back not the other way round. theres no way we need another one of them when we have johnson, kelly, wisdom and mclaughlin. i wont include flanagan because i think he is another jay spearing in terms of quality. a centre/left back would be ideal like ogbonna or capuano in serie a.

  4. looks a good player but if any1 else comes in this window would defo like it to be a attacking player as if coates stays then we have enough cover

  5. No problems for me with bringing in experienced players, but if this is the case, I would prefer to see some more younger players be loaned out so they can develop and get some regular quality action.

  6. I know were in need of a good LB but its goid to hear a CB is still being looked for, as good as skertel can be on his day i still feel he,s not in the same league as sammy was, a real defensive legend,

  8. We've actually got enough right footed ball playing defenders who can operate at both right back and centre back. Wisdom and Kelly are such examples. We need a left footer as backup to Agger. Rafa has exposed the vulnerability of a right footer on the left side of a central defensive pairing before when he set Torres upon Vidic.

I say we really ought to be looking at someone like Shawcross who is a left footer! And if our ball player is going to be the guy on the right, our man on the left can be our stopper.

  9. Same question here, how much better is he compared to Coates and Wisdom? Buy expensively but sell on the cheap because these players come in to be fringe/reserve/non-playing players. Then we let our exciting youngsters leave for cheap since they are supposedly 'free' to begin with.

So maybe we can sell say, Martin Kelly, for 500K pounds then buy this whoever boy for 8 mil EUR. Then after 2 seasons, sell this whoever boy for 2 mil pounds then buy Martin Kelly back for 4 mil pounds. Sorry names mentioned here is only for illustration sake. But this is typical LFC all these while. We can just verify this by looking at Tom Ince and Assaidi as example. Next on the list is more likely Borini and Adam Morgan. It's not going to be very different from what I mentioned in the example.

  10. Looking at that video he is just mediocre to be honest. He did nothing there to show he is worth wasting our time over. Wisdom is as good.

  11. To be honest I think there are better defenders we could go for. I have a keen eye on Mclaughlin who looks bright. At the same time I think we need a left back and a center back as well as Agger and Skrtel have no competition and are prone to concentration lapses as well, but I think this will probably be resolved in the summer rather than this month.

  13. That's quite interesting actually. Problem with Shawcross is that he just signed a long term deal with Stoke and will cost £15M plus! He is a good defender but IMO I think there are better cheaper players we could go for.

  14. I think after the Mansfield game it is pretty obvious we need some better back up in defence. Unfortunatley Carra is now passed it, but he will always be a legend. Coates hasnt done much to make me think he will be a great defender.

  15. Glad you like it :-) It's a bit glitchy, so we'll see how it goes, but hopefully it's stay

  20. Oussama Assaidi,Sebastian Coates,Dani Pacheco,Nuri Sahin and Andre Wisdom have bright potential to be shining with LFC team, but their talent never been used very well and smart from B.Rodgers who prefer to let underperforming players keep playing and paying again. It is very poor LFC having many young good talents but not very smart to used it the players with suit system tactical.Suso and Sterling have high skill but still cannot put the important goal.Downing,Henderson and Shelvey still keep pretending busy but no goal and no goal.Lucas,Henderson and Downing just ordinary players but not good enough to be call amazing players.......because NO GOAL.
