Come and get me: Modibo Diakité waiting for LFC to make an offer. Sign him?

Earlier this week, Lazio star Modibo Diakité rejected a new contract at Lazio, bringing to an end a long drawn-out contract dispute with the Serie A giants. Liverpool have been strongly linked with the player over the last month, and reports today suggest that Diakite wants a move to Anfield.

According to the Daily Express:

"Liverpool target Modibo Diakite is waiting for the Barclays Premier League club to make a move for him.

"Diakite has decided not to sign a contract extension with Lazio, and besides Liverpool, has been linked with a move to fellow Serie A giants Inter Milan".

Yesterday, Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport reported:

"Claudio Lotito [Lazio Owner] and Vladimir Petkovic [Lazio manager] are disappointed that Diakité has decided not to renew his contract. It remains a possibility that he may be sold before 31 January if Liverpool will make Lazio an offer"

Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers has reportedly spent the last month trying to thrash out a deal for the €5m--rated 25-year old, and last week, the Reds held a second round of talks with Diakité in a bid to resolve differences over salary and contract length.

The 6"2 defender has barely played for Lazio this season, and after rejecting a new contract, that is unlikely to change over the next six months. His only option would seem to be a move away, and with Liverpool in need of defensive cover, a move to Anfield could be just the ticket.

Worth a bid?

  1. Jaimie Haven't you seen John Henry's tweet. He said he's broke, but then it could have been that his account has been hacked by a Manure fan.

  6. Not another unproven 20-year old with potential that will be realised in 3-5 years. If LFC spend 8m on him it will be a mistake IMO. Why can't the club just sign some fecking experienced players already?

  8. Sebastian Coates is the stars on making. He playing much better than Lucas, allen or henderson. But why LFC dislike to involve him for playing many games. He also versatil player.LFC no need to bring in Diakite but should bring much better good talent...I hope LFC can bring in Matts Hummell or Raphael Varane or Mamadou Sakho.Tough.faster and briliant players who also able to score the goal.It is very worth to bring best players if you not scare to break the bank account.

  9. Inter Milan can swoop him up ( I would never sign this player i see no signs of improvement now image going against fast teams like Swansea,Manchester United and City or Chelsea, Do you really think this player would be suitable for Anfield....Brenden don't do the transfer )

  10. I do like the look of Coutinho and would personally welcome him to the club as he looks to have talent and tricks to excite. However, I would most definitely hold the deal off til the summer if it meant signing that quality experience in our midfield: as I believe the remainder of our season will RELY on said experience during THIS window. (Before anyone starts I'm talking of a single signing, NOT bankrupting the club with expensive token signings!)......Defence can wait til the summer to be strengthened..
