£3m Argentine star who played with Messi & Aguero wants LFC move. Sign him...?

Liverpool have been linked with a number of central defenders over the last couple of months, including Modibo Diakite, Ashley Williams and Mehdi Benatia, and the latest name to enter the fray is Sevilla centre-back Federico Fazio.

According to reports this week, Brendan Rodgers is monitoring the 25-year old Argentina international, who can play in defence, or as a defensive midfielder.

Sevilla are suffering major financial problems at the moment, and many of their players may be for sale as a result, including Fazio, who is apparently a 'long-term' Liverpool target.

In December, Sevilla president Jose Del Nido stated that the club would sell players to help balance a €15m loss, and in another interview on earlier this month, he seemed to contradict himself with a load of mixed message. He told Reporters:

“It is not mandatory to sell players. There have been offers for seven players in our first team. The seven have been rejected. Only if an off-market offer comes in for any player will they be sold today, tomorrow or the day after. There is no need to sell, but that does not mean that we won’t sell.”

Bundesliga clubs Hamburg and Hoffenheim are also interested in signing £3m-rated Fazio, but the Argentinian reportedly favours a move to Liverpool.

Fazio won the World Cup with Argentina U20 side in 2007, and followed that up in 2008 with an Olympic gold medal, as part of a team that included Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, Sergio Aguero and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

A viable option?

  1. Well, if FSG think they can bring LFC back to it's glory days by doing the same way as Dortmund then they are wrong. Premier League is highly competitive compare to Bundaligas. A team need some experience players to balance it but if keep a group of young players in it. It will decrease the whole performance of the group since young players are lack of experience and moreover they come from different league. Without stability in the team it's hardly to see LFC can make it back to top 4. Some of the elder players seem to be seeking a move to others club and that is worrying.

  3. You're correct. You also need a phenomenal coach to make it work. Not someone who just thinks he's the man.

  4. Don't really know anything bout him. But if it is true it's good that players still do want to come to the club. Just a pity none of them are household names.

  12. Between Diakite and Fazio, I'd choose Fazio.  He's started 12 of Sevilla's 19 games.  He's got 3 goals as a defender.  He's 6'5" and about 195lbs. Diakite hasn't been playing so I have to wonder why his team isn't playing such a big guy. I watched the video.  He doesn't seem very quick...but I wouldn't call any of our defenders very quick either.

  13. I've always been Fazio's admirer. I don't know enough about Diakite so I can't compare the two, but surely at 3m he is worth signing!

  16. I can't remember the year I used to play it, but I remember this kid being a magnet for near post flick ons from corners. The player that I hoped Coates would become...

  17. Being a household name is no proof of a players quality.

That's how we ended up with guys like Downing and Cole! (while far more gifted players were ignored :(
