With Liverpool's move for Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge up in the air, the club will be forced to consider affordable alternatives, and one striker who is available is Marseille's Loic Remy, and he would be a much cheaper option.
Speaking to Sky Sports earlier this week, Remy reaffirmed that he's available in January. He said:
"The window opens in January, and there will be speculation from now until the window closes - if I have to leave then all parties must be happy. I have a contract so let's wait and see what happens".
Remy has been linked with a move to Anfield on several occasions over the last year, and prior to the Euros, the player's agent, Frederic Guerra, revealed that the France International harboured a 'dream' of playing in the English Premier League. Guerra has also made it clear that Remy wants to play for Liverpool:
"He [Remy] is ideally suited for the English game. He is determined to go to the Premier League, and his heart is set on playing for Liverpool. Remy is pure gold...He has great pace and that is something Liverpool need in attack".
Last week, Remy's current agent, Bruno Satin, told Le10Sport
"Marseille needs the money and Remy going could be a solution. If they were to get an offer of €10m, the club would let him leave."
Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune recently confirmed the Ligue 1 outfit is experiencing financial difficulties, and he specifically stated that certain players would be allowed to leave. He told France Football:
"Our objective is very clear: we must sell players. We are trying to reduce the wage bill and our priority since May has been to get money to make up for missing out on Champions League. We have three players we have agreed to let leave - Cesar Azpilicueta, Stephane Mbia and either Loic Remy or Andre Ayew"
If £13m-rated Remy 'had his heart set on playing for Liverpool' a year ago then I doubt much would've changed in the intervening time. Remy is available, he scores goals, and he's £4m cheaper than Sturridge. Stats for Marseille:
* 77 games played
* 33 goals | 9 Assists
* Goal/assist every 1.73 games
* 13% conversion rate (Suarez = 16.3%)
Remy is not the most prolific goalscorer but his conversion rate is pretty decent, and this is what the club needs. Worth a bid if the Sturridge deal fails?

I would have him over Sturridge any day of the week
ReplyDeleteJaimie,which forward do you prefer:Sturridge,Gameiro or Remy?
ReplyDeleteWhy??????????
ReplyDeleteyeah sounds good
ReplyDeleteGiroud, Chamakah and Gervinho have all come from the French league and all of them have struggled! 2 out of the 3 we tried to sign! Except for Drogba can't think of another forward who has come straight to England from France who has scored goals in the last 10 years!
ReplyDeleteI would prefer Remy over Sturridge.
ReplyDeleteThey're both always injured
ReplyDeleteJaimie, where do you get the players' conversion rate from ?
ReplyDeleteRemy is better value and comes with less baggage...and seems to want to play for Liverpool......i also think he would suit rogers style better and would open up other avenues for french players coming to anfield
ReplyDeleteoff anteater and wikipedia
ReplyDelete:-)

Don't know, really. The last two strikers we bought from France didn't quite hack it. He seems to be very much out of favour at his club, so he may be not that good after all. People complain about us being interested in "Chelsea reject Sturridge". How would they/we complain about a Marseille reject?
ReplyDeleteWe are linked with Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, who may be pretty unknown, but I've heard that he is a star in the making. Anyway, we've had so many French players at Anfield who weren't that good. Le Tallec, Bruno Cheyrou, Cissé, N'Gog and so on. There are a few really bright talents to be found in France (Yann M'Vila is a player I'd like to see at Liverpool), but Rémy probably isn't one of them.
ReplyDeleteManually calculated based on shot statistics (from OPTA) vs. goals scored.
ReplyDeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteHaven't we been banging on about how poor Suarez's conversion rate is? Is that stat from this season or over his career? Suarez takes more shots than anyone else in the league, I was under assumption that we need someone with a better conversion rate, not a worse one.
ReplyDeleteSuarez's conversion rate last season was 10.1%, which is pretty dire, so he's improved this season. However, we're only 4 months into the season, so that could all change. His conversion rate is 0 at the moment as he hasn't scored for six games.
ReplyDeleteThat was actually pretty funny
ReplyDeleteSo its true. Doomsday.
ReplyDelete1 by 1 LFC travel with many rumours of good players.....finaly only daniel sturridge and tom ince they can sign?what a poor......LFC is very lacking about counter attack games.so edison cavani,christian erikson and tello will good players need to sign.What happen to filips djuricic,dennis praet chasing?
ReplyDeletenot sure about remy. would prefer hooper. and absolutely want Belhanda, lets get him if we get someone from france.
ReplyDeleteBelhanda, Long, Hooper, and Ter Stegen or Butland in. id be satisfied with transfer window. oh and Downing out Cole out Pepe out if he wants to go.
but im getting continuously more frustrated and it isnt even january yet. i hope we are doing business behind closed doors but im affraid that well just go in for a loanee forward and for one winger. i hope im wrong
That site says Downing has no weaknesses. It just lost whatever credibility it had.
ReplyDeleteBelhanda looks like a class player but doubt we will get him. The downing henderson and Nuri Sahin money would have been better spent on him.
ReplyDeleteWell, but it states the numbers of shots and the goals scored by a player. NazO wanted to know how to get the conversion rates. Never posted the link for it's credibility.
ReplyDeletei know ..but there names are not as catchy
ReplyDeleteits all relevant to price....im not particular in favour of any of them but if if thats the route we are taking id plum for the cheaper option and the one who apparently shows more desire to join us....not an ideal out come but then again the transfer policy of Liverpool seldom is
ReplyDeletewhat you've never had you'll never miss
ReplyDeletewhoscored .com
ReplyDeleteIf he comes- don't tell me!
ReplyDeletehow about signing damiao.. lucas might influence him to join us.. bcoz spending 20-25 millions on a class player is better than spending 15-20 millions on 3-4 average players ! anywayz i trust BR totally ! he ll bring the right players to the club i feel.. even if itzz sturridge ! that sounds a bit optimistic but i think the same
ReplyDeleteI could get philosophic, again. May I? Well, sometimes people tend to miss something they can imagine. They've never had it, but still miss it.
ReplyDeleteWe should have a look at some statistics first.
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer him over Sturridge if for nothing else than his apparent desire to play for us. Doesn't he have that ongoing potential problem with his heart though (?), I might be confused with someone else.
ReplyDeleteI read a rumour about the possibility of us bidding for Pato as he apparently wants to leave Milan and go back to South America. Has anyone else seen this? I sincerely hope it's not true, he seems to have a recurring thigh strain problem every season and has only scored something like 10 or 11 times since the start of 2010 - 2011 season.
I know this is wishful thinking but I'd love FSG to really step up and spend maybe up to £35m for either Llorente and Muniain or a little less for Huntelaar and Muniain. Could you imagine either Suarez and either of those 2 pairings. Muniain may not be the most prolific but he is almost a carbon copy of Suarez's style of play (maybe not quite as good).
In fact while I'm in Champ Man mode, lets get Keisuke Honda and play him as the front man of a midfield 3, shirt sales would pay any transfer fee for him so our net spend on him would probably be us being quids in (for a change). Rotate Gerrard, Suso, Allen and then Sahin for the more defensive games - plenty of competition there. Let Henderson show his commitment and hopefully get something from him by rotating him with Lucas. Johnson, Wisdom, Enrique and (waiting for the hate) Downing as impact sub as our fullbacks. Kelly once he's fit again! Give Agger the armband when Gerrard's not playing. Only buy players with experience (not necessarily old) for CB in the summer and all grow green afro's and play our home games on the moon!!!!! Just what dreams are made of...
Me thinks he could be off to Newcastle, with Ba going back to France. Having both Ba and Cisse in the same team, is holding them back.
ReplyDeletePardew yesterday on Remy: "That's a situation we are looking at."
Remy is one of those forwards that can play in anywhere in a front three.
or as funny
ReplyDeleteId better not comment last time Jamie came riding to your defense like a white knight to defend your statistical honor....
ReplyDeleteI was only joking. Thought there was a bit of friendly banter going on between us.
ReplyDeletei was and we where ...i found it highly amusing though that Jaime came in with his love of stats and facts.....i mean come on an internet forum based on truth.........the thoughts proposterous
ReplyDeleteI think it is good that Jaimie tries to keep the debates going on civilised and that he at times encourages people with less popular opinions or procedures to keep up what they are doing.
ReplyDeleteTruth isn't absolutely, as I've said before (you are free to disagree). An internet forum based on civilised manner without insulting and abusing others, with people not only voicing their opinions but their reasons too, that's something to aim for I'd like to think.
the "adventurous" mentality from Liverpool FC and its scouting department to sign players straight from southamerican leagues would suggest we wont sign him. Damiao is class player he will cost us aprox 20m. Jackson Martinez now banging goals in FCP wouldve costed what? in region of 5m, and we were linked.
ReplyDeletethis whole buying "proven" talent will come back to bite us in ar** . take a change once in a while, propably would get better players with better re-sale value, once they get "proven".
Giroud hasn't been that bad... Better than the other two at least. It's a pretty silly idiom that all French players must be bad because of that.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Lloris, Cabaye, Nasri, Ribery, Sagna, Clichy,
M'villa. There are many good French players.
Let's not forget one the greatest ever strikers was also French. It's too soon to write them off as finished.
I've heard of N'castle going for him too...
ReplyDeleteI wish we'd brought him, but no rumors about him are rising.
