Confirmed LFC line-up vs. QPR: Attacking duo dropped. Overly cautious...?

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has named a physical, defensive-minded team for this afternoon's must-win game against QPR.

Suso and Shelvey both drop to the bench, but Allen and Henderson come back into the team:

FULL TEAM: Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Gerrard, Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Downing, Suarez.

SUBS: Gulacsi, Assaidi, Coates, Lucas, Carragher, Suso, Shelvey.

QPR TEAM: Cesar, Diakite, Traore, Hill, Cisse, Taarabt, Wright-Phillips, Mackie, Onuoha, Nelsen, Mbia

Rodgers will not be at the QPR game today as a result of illness. Club doctor Zaf Iqbal confirmed:

"It was impossible for Brendan and Brad to attend the game. They are not fit to be at the match and any contact with the rest of the squad could cause the bug to spread to more of the playing staff."

Whether this is a good or bad thing remains to be seen, but the manager missing from the touchline for such a vital game isn't ideal.

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has predicted a 2-1 victory for Harry Redknapp's side. He told the BBC:

"QPR [beat] Liverpool towards the end of last season, and I have a feeling they might pull off something similar on Sunday. They think they might as well go for it, and I think Liverpool might be suffering from a bit of a hangover after the setback against Stoke".

  3. new allen would start suprise suprise, probabley were a black armband in respect for rodgers just thought rodgers post match interview will be interesting from his sickbed lol

  4. What happened with sahin?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Not sure it matters which 11 we pick, they are all as average as each other apart from Suarez. It'll depend on how much they are prepared to compete with a QPR side who will run until they drop. Still, at least if it isn't going well we have, err, absolutely no options on the bench and absolutely no plan B either.

    ReplyDelete
  6. lucas needs a rest and sahin isnt performing pretty easy to understand why they arent playing ,then again any team that gets picked these days some liverpool supporters are never happy with lol

    ReplyDelete
  7. Get well soon Brendan so you can pack you bags and shove off!!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  8. dont worry if we lose today i will pack them for him

    ReplyDelete
  9. lucas should have started in order to set the standard for hendo to come on late in the second half, qpr need points! so midfield will defo be the battle ground...

    ReplyDelete
  10. How the heck does Downing keep getting back in the team?!
I seriously can not wait for the new signings to start arriving...

    ReplyDelete
  11. This game is all about who really wants a happy new year, and who will fight for the club, and who thinks they deserve the points the most...

    ReplyDelete
  12. All those fans who have berated Shelvey should have a long hard look at themselves. Yes he has been poor but if you really are fans how the hell is having a go at him in twitter going to help him. Have we not learnt anything about supporting our players from what happened with Lucas? Sometimes it shames me to be a Liverpool fan. Do the words of YNWA mean anything?

Fantastic news that Rodgers wont be there. This is a real 6 pointer of a game,I feel as though 40 points wont be enough to safe guard our premier league status and our proud record of never being out of the premier league. On a more happier note well done Rafa your turning Chelsea around and showing the bullying cowardly fans who wanted you out of LFC what a fantastic guy you are and since youve left LFC have ceased to exist.Well done Rafa great guy

  14. FINALLY shelvey dropped, assaidi on bench wow, surprised there but dont think they will give him any minute, henderson allen on center now thats a big worry two of the best of giving the ball away, may Lord helps us

    ReplyDelete
  15. would love to see cole starting, and not downing..
hopefully we sell both in the next week ;)

Nice to see henderson starting, i think he really deserves the start hes a good player at  all !

    ReplyDelete
  16. well QPR, last in table. we should dominate, but im expecting a tight affair with us losing it. hope to god im wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  17. lucas should start every game if hes fit enough for the bench hes fit enough to start

    ReplyDelete
  18. six pointer versus qpr the last time we had a six pointer against them was in 87 but that was at the top of the table,we hammered them john barnes was magic  the good old days come on you mighty reds

    ReplyDelete
  19. Glad some are happy with the team and results. LFC needs fans like those for coming years.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Can't see what's wrong with the line-up, given the players at our disposal.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Attempted shot by Allen after the Suarez shot.....total CRUD!.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Whilst watching our last match I thought about what you make out of his side-ways passing. Now I am nearly convinced that it's not about side-way passes. You simply don't like Allen.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It surely is some feat to win games with a poor squad like Chelsea's.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Suarez again, took out the defender lovely there. Hendo assist but it was all in Suarez's movement and footwork.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maybe if the great Rodgers played Sahin in his favoured/usual position he might start looking the quality player he is, Sahin has even asked to stop been played out of position.. That's probably why he isn't getting a game!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Interesting that you pick out Allen and turn a blind eye on almost every other player who miscued a shot this season.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Suarez again!

    ReplyDelete
  28. good start from liverpool. allen still losing the ball [17th min]

    ReplyDelete
  29. Does this mean we play better of without BR ;-)!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lets give Agger and Skrtel striker roles, then we dont need any other stiker anymore !

    ReplyDelete
  31. QPR are sh1t but who cares, 3-0!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Let the whining commence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Stay grounded, its only QPR, and its only cracks papered over.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Suarez just lost the ball [28th minute]. And others have, too. Would be nice if people concentrated on the entire team instead of singling out one player (like they did with Lucas amongst others in the past).

    ReplyDelete
  35. So much for those who want us to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  36. No doubt Suarez is the stand out player so far.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I thought he picks the team and tactics?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sterling is garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  39. There will be plenty of losing to come in the Rodgers era.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wonder how many nutmegs Suarez has done this season?!

    ReplyDelete
  41. yes but im only concentrating on our welsh xavi!

    ReplyDelete
  42. he has scored 2 goals as well

    ReplyDelete
  43. Glad you don't run the league. Otherwise you'd come out and say that we only get one point for a win, because it's only QPR.

    ReplyDelete
  44.  Hope we lose fans like you on the way, too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. my sarcasm is wasted upon you.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I bet Lawernson is feeling like a real twat now?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lawrenson must be feeling like a real tw*t now?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I read your deception lol

    ReplyDelete
  49. maan pascoe looks so sweet with his glasses :D

    ReplyDelete
  50. You mean fans who say it as it is rather then put up with mediocre sh ite etc etc?, are you one of those?.  Go bury yer head in the sand you nodding donkey your fooling yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well done pool good first half, total domination.

    ReplyDelete
  52.  trust me red no fan wants us to lose ...that's why we are so vocal when we play bad and do....

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree but i think he was expecting more the just Taarabt turning up for QPR lol

    ReplyDelete
  54.  its all over the plan is working we are beating QPR ...champions league here we come

    ReplyDelete
  55. And you my friend are clueless

    ReplyDelete
  56. No, I mean fans who moan when we lose, who moan when we draw and who moan when we win.

    ReplyDelete
  57. He's probably used to feeling like that.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Go back to your corner like Banoog please.

    ReplyDelete
  59. agree, its to black and white with some fans.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Any real need for the question mark?

Drowning in twat juice for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Any need for the question mark?

Drowning in tw*t juice as we speak!

    ReplyDelete
  62. considering his dad manages QPR jaime red doesnt hold back in pointing out there mistakes......perhaps a few on this forum could learn a lesson off him cough cough redforlife

    ReplyDelete
  63. Rafa is waiting for you at Chelsea. Problem is that he will only have is job till the end of the season so better move quick before you miss out. Hurry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. That's really sad.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Jason Carr has suddenly disappeared...

    ReplyDelete
  66. So we should say nothing then and put up with mediocre substandard garbage and be happy with one half decent performance in every six games and become a mid table club, is that what your saying yeah?.

    Well your not on.

    ReplyDelete
  67.  good point he used to be able to play football apparently

    ReplyDelete
  68. well ill be damned. 3 nil at halftime. but ill breath easy when ref blows 90. Henderson looks good. he has been real good whole season when he has been on. I hope he will stay when january comes. i think he will be a a very good player in 3 years time. He works better in middle of a pitch and not on advanced role.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Really? when was his last 'good' game then? hes on 50 grand a week now too so hes 'made it', he can just roll with it like the rest of the dross on the books.

He can run, thats all, cant tackle, cant dribble, cant pass, cant shoot, cant head the ball and has no physichal strength or presense.

    ReplyDelete
  70. wow this bug doesn't sound great....few more goals please will really do our GD a favour!

    ReplyDelete
  71.  nah i have way to much fun reading your codswallop on here

    ReplyDelete
  72. You don't like it the fact that BR's team is winning the match do you?

    ReplyDelete
  73.  Henderson has been good all season its just that no one wants to see it.......

    ReplyDelete
  74.  why is he rubbing your leg.........

    ReplyDelete
  75. No, but it surely would help if you'd post more than one-liners containing nothing but hate.

We started becoming a mid-table club some years ago. The rot won't be stopped within half a season. That's what I'm saying, but you obviously don't tend to read many posts on here, otherwise you'd know that. Usually you come here and post one sentence about how poor we are, no argumentation, no balance, nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'll defend him for a change. He's probably watching the match at his local pub.

    ReplyDelete
  77.  Its not Brs team ...hes just the manager

    ReplyDelete
  78.  ps ....see if you can find one post where i have campaigned for the return of rafa .....

    ReplyDelete
  79. I can give you roberto's number you can ask him all about it!

    ReplyDelete
  80. No balance? but like a Brendan Rodgers side that.

I'll post what I like, when i like, where i likfe, however often I like, i wont put up with mediocre substandard garbage and i wont be fooled with all this 'project' nonsense, theres no progression, we are worse, and i wont fool myself by pretending otherwise, you can do what you like.

    ReplyDelete
  81. terrible substitution what has Henderson done wrong

    ReplyDelete
  82. Of course, like the way you avoid the question though.

    ReplyDelete
  83. You could have posted that before reading my codswallop.

    ReplyDelete
  84. He mus't have tickled your fancy when he predicted a 2-1 loss to LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  85.  no offence red but beating a club in freefall is hardly the grand design...i dare say anybody with half a brain could put a liverpool team together to beat this lot....but you just go on thinking hes a genius......ps hes ill in bed so hows he taking the credit ......

    ReplyDelete
  86. he was having a good game, i cant say who should have come off cos i will be gunned down for mentioning his name. well done hendo u've shown some spirit.

    ReplyDelete
  87. why oh why have we not brought assadi on for downing or sterling ...and we should have subbed Gerrard in my opinion

    ReplyDelete
  88. You have clearly been found out.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Hendo has improved for sure this season, you can see the hunger in his eyes!

Great business at QPR, must be cautious in the next match though! Only too recently, we lost 3-1 against A.Villa and 3-1 to Stoke, with a truly pleasurable thumping of Fulham 4-0 as a filling in the middle.

All eyes on our next result and January signings!

    ReplyDelete
  90.  it was an after thought ...a bit like you

    ReplyDelete
  91. Paul Merson has probably joined him at the same pub and Merson most probably is mobile on his mobile explaining to Harry Redknapp how to beat us.

    ReplyDelete
  92.  its a fair cop i bow to your superior intellect ....have you got your champions league final hotel booked yet

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well at least you can't forget about me.

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  94. What, the one we lost in 2007?

    ReplyDelete
  95.  its all win win for me we lose i can slag off rogers if we win i can slag off blues and mancs

    ReplyDelete
  96.  just think when you and anteater are 18 you will be able to join him

    ReplyDelete
  97.  let the dropping of agger commence

    ReplyDelete
  98. Bless your heart, that is not what mommy said.

    ReplyDelete
  99. hey when your old enough you can go to a game instead of watching in your mommys basement

    ReplyDelete
  100. great display by the reds really happy for the traveling fans after stoke ....my pick of 3 is suarez henderson and enrique

    ReplyDelete
  101. He actually earned his wages today.

    ReplyDelete
  102. All I can Say is thankfully we won and it's 3 points in the bag I know it was only QPR but we just do not know what to expect from our team these days   , well done lads , please just carry it on from here

    ReplyDelete
  103. its nothing to do with side passing lucas is a defensive midfielder allen is supposed to be an attacking midfielder so he should be creative but hes not

    ReplyDelete
  104. Put that in your pipe & smoke it lawro, get back to bum lickin the mancs

    ReplyDelete
  105. Allen is not an attacking midfielder! In the modern game, midfielders are not just split into attacking/defensive; Allenis somewhere in the middle, but his primary role - as Rodgers has confirmed - is to keep possession, which is what he does better than anyone else in the team.

    ReplyDelete
  106. no i have not i wished them well before the game and unlike you i actually watch the games instead of thinking of something funny to post did you have to post it straight away before you forgot your witty remark, you should be on tv your wasted on here

    ReplyDelete
  107. Thanks for clearing that up Jaimie.

    ReplyDelete
  108. no sat at home watching it with about 7 kids my lads and m8s

    ReplyDelete
  109. hendo as been steady starting to find his feet

    ReplyDelete
  110. We get DANIEL STURRIDGE for 12m and CHELSEA replace him with DEMBA BA for 7m.They get stronger and make 5m!

    ReplyDelete
  111. pray tell, give us a  clue ?is he welsh

    ReplyDelete
  112. It's not only in the modern game. Since I've followed football you've had defensive minded midfielders, attacking minded midfielders and the classical central midfielder.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Some people obviously didn't know it.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Not sure many will agree with you about Allen being (or supposed to being) an attacking midfielder.

    ReplyDelete
  115. if rodgers as confirmed it from his sickbed who am i to argue,

    ReplyDelete
  116. i,am glad that helped you ,because i was wondering what the f"ck he was supposed to be doing as well ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  117. You mean the guy who finally managed to give Roman the holy grail? Roman, that's actually the guy who would sack a manager despite winning the league.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Lets not get carried away again. QPR is at the bottom of the league. Pathetic defense.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Good win. Hendo is better than jonjo.... Also Suarez is class.

    ReplyDelete
  120. and even less will agree hes a defensive one ,but as a midfielder whos not a good tackler or a great ball player its a waste of a midfielder, and hes hardley a work horse either

    ReplyDelete
  121. The fact that you were saying that he is an AM shows that you know nothing about the player so that means you should rather keep your trap shut about him :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. midfielders are attack minded or defensive minded except in takka tacky football whats sup you fancy him

    ReplyDelete
  123. Well, I've tried my best, but couldn't guess that situation.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Think he's a pretty good ball player to be honest. We'd actually have an extremely good midfielder if we could merge a few of those at our club into one.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Jamie I disagree. That is not his role but the teams role. one person can`t keep possession for the team and if thats all he brings to the table then he is not in my first eleven. the guy made a strong point, he cant defend or attack so he cant even do abit of both lol

    ReplyDelete
  126. I counted 5 in the first 12 minutes. I got bored after that.

    ReplyDelete
  127. We played very well first half, but didn't have the desire to put them to the sword 2nd half, which seems to be a trait of ours.

A potentially tricky away game was all over after 27 minutes, and that was without BR on the bench.
Which begs the question: Could he stay away for a few weeks? Or at least 'til we catch the Blues?

    Just a thought...........      ;)

    ReplyDelete
  128. you are too much lol!

    ReplyDelete
  129. always try and have a house full better to watch with kids saves me a fortune on new tvs if i watch alone

    ReplyDelete
  130. Scary isn't it?
Maybe someone pointed that out to BR, and that's what made him sick....?

    ReplyDelete
  131. am here all week matinees on saturdays and sundays ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  132. Why have we been and in january continue to pay such high fees for potential? JA has played 18 games for us 0 assist 0 goals 7 shots. in whatever capacity for 15m i cant be overly happy the club i support is pissing money down the drain. moussa dembele cost the same amount played less games 1 goal 3 assists 15 shots.

    ReplyDelete
  133.  so what you are saying red is we have got a player who can neither attack or defend but can keep possesion....would it not have been shrewd for 15m to try and get a guy who can do all 3

    ReplyDelete
  134. Very important win this, i don't care what anyone says, we needed to win this game, had we lost the knives would have been out and BR would have been under enormous pressure, which tbh i don't think he would have deserved....all things considered...

Fair play to the lads out there today, looking forward to the jan window now, lets hope this will be a good omen for the New Year...

    GET IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!:-)

    ReplyDelete
  135. I was a bit disappointed we didn't try to score more goals, which we could have done. We played walking pace in the last 15.

    ReplyDelete
  136.  jase can you point out there witty/funny remarks they seem to be passing me byLOL

    ReplyDelete
  137. who gave you such information, the welsh man was having a blinder in his non-attacking, non-defending somewhere in the middle midfield role.

disclaimer: the above comment is meant to be humorous. lol smiley face smiley face.

    ReplyDelete
  138.  Man as much as i disagree with some of rogers desisions you cant have players dictating where to play...ship him and his mask back to madrid

    ReplyDelete
  139.  thats misleading jamie ....keeping possession in the final 3rd is one thing keeping possession in your own half when the opposing team wants you to is another

    ReplyDelete
  140. yah jason keep it shut! can you not see we have a superstar here ....a cross between barnes keane gerrad and zidane all for 15m

    ReplyDelete
  141.  i actually think shelvey been excellent for a 20 year old....he gets stuck in and tries and doesn't moan ( sahin ) the kid has played about 4 positions this year ..........getting sent off at utd has took a bit of aggression out of his tackle and game...

    ReplyDelete
  142. morelike a cross between savage and average

    ReplyDelete
  143. me to but if it makes them happy who i,am i to disagree, little things please little minds

    ReplyDelete
  144.  it reminds me of the old kitkat advert you cant sing you cant dance you look terrible you'll go far....

    ReplyDelete
  145. you know how it is living in this communist country where we can't express our disappointment with JOE 15m swansea laughing all the way to the bank ALLEN.

disclaimer; I don't have anything personnel against Joe Allen his agent or Swansea city. Just sick of the club i support spending money on what they think are ferrari's and getting mini's instead!
O look i even made an analogy there!
btw u think i revealed the id of the player?

    ReplyDelete
  146. Lets face it, it was a bad business 3 years in a row now for LFC. If  BR stays for one more season, we may have to endure few more signings like that.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I wish we played another team today may be from top 10 so that we could know how well can we response after the disastrous performance at Britannia.

    ReplyDelete
  148. to sum it up great ist half. they were always goin to have a go 2 nd half. that morocan fella could be agood player in a good side. bad news losing enrique with another hammy . but stering just dont no what all the fuss is about. and reina a clean sheet bloody hell.there again i could have put the gloves on and kept a clean sheet against then. 3 points against a piss poor side . so im not gettin carried away lets just see what pans out in the transfare window

    ReplyDelete
  149. was it you on twitter the other night ??????????

    ReplyDelete
  150. shame he cant tackle either, some midfielder. so we need the ball for him to be effective?

    ReplyDelete
  151. bummer that enrique is out for 6 weeks  ....props to Hendo apparently hes been ill as well ...people can say what they  want about the lad but he wants to play for Liverpool and never complains

    ReplyDelete
  152. good result. but take suarez out of the team and it would of probably been a draw.agger and skrtel still need to go, at least one of them.
expect a sh#t result next game if not the one after.
sorry but the attitude and commitment from the players is a joke.
happy with 3 points none the less.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Its not about dictating its about doing himself justice, and him in his usual position makes us stronger anyway.. Why have a player of his ability and play him in a role he doesn't really know?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Don't worry, our time will come where we will be tested, just enjoy the fact that we have staved off a certain gloom that would have carried us forward into the New Year....

I honestly think we have the bones of a very good and competitive squad, yes it does need to be strengthened but what we need more than anything else atm is to see a TEAM emerge out of this squad of players..., it will take time but there are many positives.

As fans we all get frustrated with certain players and the fact that our form has been so inconsistent has meant most of our squad coming in for some heavy criticism at times, & im as guilty as the next fan in this regard..., BUT my New Years wish will be to see that phoenix rising again...., to be able to watch my TEAM playing with pride, i even want Brendan to succeed...., i don't want him to fail....i want us to fight back this season and show what we're made of....i want us the fans to have more positive views re our players, myself included...

Sure, this was a struggling and probably going down QPR side on the back of a very poor season but we put the game out of their reach early, our midfield looked much more solid, our finishing was better, in short we looked more like a TEAM....

Now i don't care too much who the manager is, i don't care too much about who we play and where, i don't care about systems and tactics, i just want us to fight our way out of this bloody rut, matters not how we do it....we've got a good squad, we've got the jan window opening so lets HOPE that we might get this train wreck of a season back on track....

    YNWA.

    ReplyDelete
  155. no fun playin with the eartha kitts well done jh. brendan rodgers missed the game with a similar complaint his was verbal diarrohea!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  156. Good result. Now hopefully a few signings arrive before the next game - the sooner the better!

    ReplyDelete
  157. do u just post 4 postin sake cos ur always on and no dissrespect mate u would put a glass eye to sleep

    ReplyDelete
  158. I am cautiously optimistic about sturridge's affect on the team and results, not sure Ince will come this window even if he is signed.

    ReplyDelete
  159. some people take it personally you would think he was there boyfriend ,and free speach your having a laugh ,you can end up in prison for that, unless your some raving lunatic eg boris johnson,or some mad terroist

    ReplyDelete
  160. You can post whatever you like, just as everybody else, but be prepared to get replies. I actually am kind of surprised (positively) that yesterday you decided to reply instead of running away.

After all, should we succeed in rebuilding our club, you may still change your user-name and pretend that you never were anti the current Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Would you kindly supply us with some proof that he is on 50k a week now. Last thing I've heard was that the player himself rubbished such claims. But then it would fit you agenda if he was on those wages.

Funny how you now lay into a boy who's just turned 18.

    ReplyDelete
  162. So the company kind of calms you down?

    ReplyDelete
  163. If you don't stop being anti-Welsh I'll show you my leek.

    ReplyDelete
  164. His job is to regain posession and redistribute the ball, like Busquets or Mascherano. Which he is not doing a great job at.

    ReplyDelete
  165. no thanks have enough watching the welsh wizard

    ReplyDelete
  166. If you were a Chelsea supporter, you'd have been right. I know you are not, just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  167. only QPR have just beaten the team managed by he who can do no wrong.
