Despite Sam Allardyce's regular public support, Andy Carroll's permanent move to West Ham is nowhere near a foregone conclusion, and with his lack of goals and long-term injury, the hammers may baulk in the summer at what is sure to be a hefty transfer fee for the striker. The Reds are desperate to offload Kenny Dalglish's biggest transfer flop, but even if the West Ham move falls through, there may still be another option.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is still interested in bringing Carroll back to St. James' Park, and he confirmed this yesterday in a Q&A session with Newcastle fans. In response to the question 'If Andy Carroll was available, would you take him?'. Pardew conceded that it might be difficult to sign him in January, but admitted he's interested:
"I would definitely consider it. We are still light of a striker. I don't think he will be available in this window [January]. I am not sure how serious his injury is either".
With one goal and two assists in ten games so far, Carroll's impact at West Ham is underwhelming, and this in a team that is set up to serve him.
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson recently stuck the knife in over Liverpool's decision to spend £35m on Carroll in January 2011, arguing:
"He [Carroll] had to deal with a £35m transfer to a club like Liverpool. When you get to that level of £35m, you need to do a bit more homework and see how he is in the second season, maybe.
"It was quite a big jump for him for that kind of money. I'd certainly not sign that kind of player for that kind of money".
Let's just be thankful that there are two clubs out there willing to take Carroll off Liverpool's hands. Alas, it's highly unlikely that Newcastle or West Ham will pay £20m (€24m), which according to the the BBC, is the club's asking price.
Still, beggars can't be choosers, and Liverpool will have to get used to the idea that a humungous loss will inevitably be made on Carroll.

And people still think we should have kept him. Even Shelvey is a way better option than him. With Carroll playing while Suarez absent, I'm pretty sure we'd be in an even worse position than we are now.
ReplyDeleteNo Fergie just signs homeless players for £8 million lol.
ReplyDeleteI dont think we would get any more than £10 million, and I think that is pushing it.
Shouldn't have sent him to West Ham at first place. He should have stayed and BR could have utilized him in cup competitions or as super sub. I don't like him at West Ham even though he has been effective but not in terms of goals. The way West Ham play football, Carroll will learn little or nothing about technique. Even training with Liverpool squad would have improved his game....
ReplyDeleteNot a SAF fan but that guy is 1000 times better than LFC's last 3 managers combined. KK, BR, RH
ReplyDeleteagree about ten to 15 million saying that we paid 12 for borinni .what we need is another club who are absolutley clueless in the transfer market, lol if he was a west ham player we would probabley offer 25million plus
ReplyDeleteDid training with LFC for 18 months prior to his loan signing improve his game? I think not. He arguably regressed.
ReplyDeletejaimie question how many points do you think is exceptable in the next three league games and if we do not get those said points will your belief in rodgers waver to 99%
ReplyDeleteApparently Liverpool are close to signing Sturridge and Ince now.
ReplyDelete£12 million for Sturridge, which I think is a good price.
imo 6million to much,
ReplyDeleteAgree - 8 points is the bare minimum acceptable. The two home games (Fulham and Sunderland) have to be wins; no excuse not to win both.
ReplyDeleteA draw away to Stoke would be okay, given the Redknapp effect, a draw to QPR would not be a disaster, though Liverpool should be winning games like that.
To be honest, I'd rather we got 3 wins and a defeat, as it's more points.
If LFC don't get 8 points, I'm not suddenly going to be calling for Rodgers' head. As you've seen, even though I support him, I still regularly criticise him, and no matter what happens, there's no way I'll call for a change during his first season. I've never done that with any LFC manager and I'm not going to start now.
In my view, every LFC manager deserves at least one full season. The only exception to that is if there is a *real* threat of relegation mid-season, which there never has been, and I don't see that changing this season.
You guys are way too pessimistic on Carrolls value. Look at his age, his unique abilities and how useful he'd be to any team that generally plays 4-4-2 and you are still looking at around £20m. Two key attributes dictate a striker's price - 1) goal scoring record/consistency, and 2) number of similar options. Torres went for £50m due to the former and a little bit of the latter (current form is ignored as it's deemed temporary). And he's left-footed - not to be sniffed at. If Carroll can rediscover the form he had a the end of last season, we could be very fortunate. When the fee is announced, remember my post.
ReplyDelete12 million too much, another bum signing
ReplyDeleteUnique abilities? You mean like the astonishing ability to lose his balance and fall over with the slightest change in wind pressure? Or his incomparable 6% conversion rate for LFC. Both highlu sought after skills, I'm sure.
ReplyDeletethats what i thought looking at the fixtures.but if we were to say only get 5 or 6 points it would put us in trouble, considering that the teams we are playing stoke apart are all below us in the league if we want any chance of champions league 9 minimum
ReplyDeleteWe will take three from Stoke, 6 at home, and QPR is minimum one, but I hope we will get all three.
ReplyDeleteGetting well frustrated! It all very well buying potential for the future but what about now?! Another 18m spanked on young english potential. So what when they reach that potential we'll be in the championship at this rate! Unless FSG pull something out of the bag in Jan and show another big statement of intent then another season is gone and we'll be able to attract even less quality next season. Just very frustrated...
ReplyDeleteEven though he has had injuries at West Ham, don't know why Big Sam would want to keep Carroll beyond this season (unless there is some dodgy activities going on. Panorama hint hint ;) ) . Carlton Cole has put in better performances than Carroll this season, especially considering Carroll's proposed transfer fee. This is in a team where the style is supposed to bring the best out of him. Pffft. He has had one decent game, which was against Fulham. The more time he spends injured and putting in forgettable performances, the more his value will nosedive. Best we can hope for is £15m me thinks. What a shambles of a transfer. The only thing we have got going for him, in relation to trying stem the flow of his nosediving transfer value, is the hype upon him by the British media as he is a young British player as well as bits & pieces by Pardew & co. Yep, its that desperate. Some people are right, imo, that we need a plan B but come on, not this guy.
ReplyDeleteHe does have blistering pace.....
ReplyDeleteDid anyone(journalists) ask BR about his statement that he would be crazy to even consider loaning Carroll?
ReplyDeleteStoke are a tough team at home. They haven't lost a league game there this season, Only conceded 3 goals at Britannia in PL. Sunderland and Fulham we should beat. Got a bad feeling that we'll lose against QPR, just a feeling.
ReplyDeleteI'm predicting 7 points from 12.
Looking at the table, we do better at scoring goals and worse at conceding goals away. Loss less games away. Played 8 games away and 9 games at home. Hmm, maybe I should change my predictions! Ah, the days of Anfield being a fortress :(
Stoke-vendeta! And I think it won't be just from Suarez. And they will have to attack at home, and they have to lose at one point, and we have to start with clean sheets... And fortress we'll be again...
ReplyDeleteI really hope we move him on.
ReplyDeleteIt's going around that we are to sign Sturridge and Ince!
Don't mind Ince but Sturridge is not really someone I would sign. His atitude is not the best and is massively overrated. Would prefer Walcott although that seems a bit dead at the moment.
Bring in the Hunter!!!!!!!!!
And unhuman like ball control and precision...
ReplyDeleteIt is scary but a reality to think that now we are thinking we desperately need to win against Fulham and Sunderland although its more like HOPE rather than we have it in the bag! Stoke away I too agree a good point, but please we must beat QPR even with Harry!
ReplyDeleteive a bad feeling we will draw our next 3 games...the only redeeming point is he may be resting( dropping) Allen so at least we may have someone who can tackle and pass forward....i pray im wrong as it will ruin my Christmas but i have no faith in rogers at all....... ....
ReplyDeleteI dont mind Sturridge ( if the price and wages are right) ive followed him for a few years and hes a threat, and i like strikers to have a bit of arrogance we have enough passive wall flowers....my concern is he doesn't seem to want to play wide, and from what i have seen plays best up front on his own or off a main striker in 442....in 4 33 he will be wide and have to track back, as well as playing disciplined ( no tricks ) we all saw what happened when suarez messed about wide against villa they got the ball and scored.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is as a commodity Rogers and FSG have completely devalued Carroll ...every club in the land knows we are desperate to get rid so they would be stupid to pay....Rogers has completely burnt all bridges with carroll meaning it is impossible for him to come back ( even if he was scoring for fun ) in a nutshell what this means is we will loan him out and pay most of his wages...take a bow FSG and Rogers for some skilled transfer dealing
ReplyDeleteHe improved certainly. He was injured when he joined Liverpool, he is a guy who takes time to adapt to a new system as you can also see him struggling to score goals at West Ham. At the end of the last season he certainly contributed more, he was a constant threat. I would have certainly loved to see him in Liverpool colours this season as well. He can give us a super sub option, certainly a better option then Borini, Morgan, et al for cup competitions. Also, his market value now is certainly below then it was before the start of the season. Staying with LFC wouldn't have depreciate his value below 20mn as being a Liverpool player and not scoring is certainly better then being a West Ham player and not scoring. I really don't think West Ham loan will improve his game, in fact he is now more one dimensional then ever before. 6 more months and that lad has no future with LFC at all. He will be sold for 12mn.
ReplyDeletedont agree on shelvey, in my eyes hes one of the worse lfc had in these years, I just cant stand him, dont know what is his ability really? No pace, terrible first touch no good assists keeps missing sitters, that boy is very bad for me and I dont think he will ever improve not trying to be harsh but really cant pretend everything is amazing with him, id sell him asap in jan even for free
ReplyDeleteFulham - Lose. Sunderland - Draw. Stoke - Lose. QPR - Draw.
ReplyDelete2 points in next 4 games.
I really admire you...
ReplyDeleteMy charm works both ways.
ReplyDeleteNo, because journalists know that he is crazy.
ReplyDeleteOr scoring the winner against Everton......Heres the thing Jaime, Daglishes tenure was ranked as disaster but from im standing id take finishing 8th and two finals in a heart beat
ReplyDeleteTheres every chance of that Chirag....what odds that riise or the winger we swapped score against us....ex reds or r strikers on a dry run always seem to score against us....fulham to win 1 nil with riise to score...you read it here first
ReplyDeleteif its any way as nearly as bad as that, rodgers will be gone ,even a blind man will see its not working
ReplyDeleteme too id rip your arm off
ReplyDeleteI thought according to loan agreement with West Ham, they had to buy Carroll for set price if they stay up in the league. Can they then refuse to sign him then?
ReplyDeleteThey have an 'option' to buy him, not obligated. If they were actually obligated then what's the point of buying him after the loan, why not straight away?
ReplyDeleteFrom what i heard West Ham are obligated to buy him for set price if they can stay up. But if its just an option to buy then Liverpool have just repeated their mistake instead of learning from Aquilani one.
ReplyDeleteThe clause is that West Ham will have the first option to buy Andy Carroll for 17mn if they stay up in the premiere league. Thats it..!!
ReplyDeletehahaha.. Thanks...
ReplyDeleteand the second option is we can buy him for 20 million haha. just like we are doin with tom ince . the lunatics are runnin the aslyum
ReplyDeleteid even turn gay. hope it doest cost me 10 grand to say this
ReplyDeleteSpot on.. Just afraid we won't even get 12...
ReplyDeleteSomeone who can tackle??
ReplyDeleteYou obviously are unaware Joe Allen has won the ball back more than any other player in the entire league?
A few weeks back he was the player with lowest percentage backwards passes of all players who'd completed over 600 passes in the league..
Around that time he'd also completed more long passes than Gerrard.
Hopefully this will change your mind, but facts don't matter to most of Allen's detractors including the so called pundits, so we'll see...
I would be shocked if we got more than £10 / £12 million for him
ReplyDeleteOption to buy, as some people are pointing out, is just that.... An option
Unless he tears it up when he comes back from injury and plays for England, generating interest from multiple clubs including the people who will really want him. Allardyce, Pardew, maybe Redknapp
Really? When deployed in central midfield, Shelvey drives the team forward. He also knows how and when to arrive in the box. With the sale of Aquilani and Gerrard getting on, we're left with Shelvey as a dynamic trequartista who provides direction and a sense of purpose going forward.
ReplyDeleteLucas, Allen and Henderson are not likely to drive forward very much and try to get on the end of moves, plus Shelvey is a year younger than Hendo. One of the worst? How much football have you been watching?
Next Gerrard, the way I see it. It is hard to fill those boots, but he can come close.
ReplyDeleteid turn straight lol:-)
ReplyDeletewhy would Newcastle sign a player who in January under fifa rules would not be allowed to play for them as he has already appeared for two clubs? Summer maybe but I really think Liverpool should have given him more of a chance. Liverpools loss is our gain if we do sign him Bback in the Summer, by the way Liverpool starting to look like a good team again, the odd blip but I wish you all the best
