Worth a bid? LFC scouts tracking unplayable 'box-to-box' goal-machine...

Liverpool, Chelsea and Stoke City are reportedly three of a 'host of Premier League clubs' watching 19-year old Portsmouth attacking midfielder Jed Wallace.

According to Sky Sports:

"Wallace, who is highly regarded after being plucked from non-league by Pompey in 2011, is being tracked by a number of clubs.

"Liverpool...have had scouts take in Wallace's recent progress, and it is little surprise that he has impressed"

Wallace is currently on-loan at Ryman League outfit Whitehawk FC, where he has grabbed 12 goals in 14 games, including two hat-tricks in quick succession.

One of the youngster's hat-tricks came against Leiston on the 20th November, and Whitehawk's official match report for the game described Wallace's ability in glowing terms:

"The unplayable Jed Wallace was a constant menace with his speed and quick feet. Wallace grabbed his second on half time after beating two players and smashing an unstoppable shot past the keeper"

Due to Portsmouth's financial situation, most of the club's players are on month-to-month deals, and Wallace is reportedly free to leave Fratton Park in December with only a 'minimal amount of compensation' due.

Premier League clubs may be circling, but Portsmouth caretaker manager Guy Whittingham seems keen to keep the youngster at Fratton Park. He told Portsmouth News last week:

"Jed is very much in our thoughts. When we get out of administration, he will be one of the first on the list that we convert into the first-team squad. When everything’s sorted here, we’ll call him back and he’ll be part of the squad"

In an interview last week, Wallace revealed that he's really enjoying banging the goals in at the moment. He told http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/goal-machine-wallace-fights-back-from-pompey-squad-frustrations-1-4557112

"I am a goal-scoring midfielder and now I honestly don’t think about it when I get a chance. When I go out I feel as though I can score in every game.

"A lot of my game is physical. I am a box-to-box player, so you have to be fit and playing games does that. I am still training at Portsmouth so I don’t pick up any bad habits, but the loan spell has given me a lot of confidence, particularly in front of goal"

Clearly, if Liverpool were to move for Wallace, he'd go into the U21s/youth team set-up rather than the first team.

  1. If youth is truly FSGs vision of the future we need to take a punt on this lad, and he'll know that he has a good chance of first team footie under Rodgers rather than Chelski or with the Stoke thugs.

  2. worth a punt ...not to sure if attacking midfielders suit rogers chicken tika style...

  3. So he's doing well for Whitehawk in the Ryman League. Congratulations to him. While I don't want to diminish any talent the lad may have, may I ask how many levels below the Premier League that is.

  4. I bagged 53 goals one season in the old northern premier league but was never good enough for even a league club, lets see how the kid does back at pompey before going overboard on him

  5. Ive never heard of the kid....but where is the harm in trying to get him on board for a trial period ....these are the players we need to be acting on...we have shown time and again we cant get the big money buys right

  6. On another note, it looks like sturridge is coming here, completely underwhelmed by him, i know he scored 8 for bolton but 12 in 62 for chelski? His attitude comes across as a big time charlie, gutted if he,s our main signin in this window, worryin trend of BR goin for players he,s had previous with, our scouts are shite!

  7. 50k and put him in reserves.

  8. Very stupid of Liverpool to even consider. We desperately need proven talents

  10. Liverpool club is getting worse in transfers day by day.

  11. Yeah, teams will be quaking in their boots now, lol, never ending nightmare! Yanks but no yanks!

  12. Because of a sky sports rumour?? Poor you...

  13. No, because of our track record in last 3 years, Apart from Suarez. Poor you...

  14. We`ve been linked with thousands of players recently but apparently its championship winger Tom Inch and chelsea`s reject Daniel Porridge that will be our signings for this window.

According to the reports it will be 12 f*ck!ng millions for Porridge and 6 million for Inch which in short equal to 18 freaking million pounds down the drain. Did they not get their lesson when KD and DC flushed over 100 millions down the toilet on overrated British flops like Henderson, Downing and Caroll??? Apparently not! Everybody knows that british player=cr@p and that their nationality disproportionates their transfer value relative to their actual talent. Everybody knows that better value for money is found abroad: e.g michu for 2million! Well, everybody except the people running our football club!

If 20 million is the transfer kitty that BR is given this window, why not use it all on one marquee signing. We got Suarez for 22million, surely there must be some similar players available for a similar price. This is where the scouting department has to do the job they are paid to do properly. We brought new scouts from ManCity to help us find good players but is that the best they could find??? Daniel was already wanted on loan by KD before and Tom was an ex liverpool academy player so what kind of scouting is that???

Anyway it may still be just rumours but if this is really the kind of players BR is looking for to make us challenge for top4(sorry top2!!), then god have mercy on us! The more of these mediocre british players in our squad, the more average our squad will get and the more we will fall down the EPL. If these nonsensical approach of buying expensive average at best british players continue we may end up getting relegated.
Maybe thats what the doomsday of the mayan calendar is all about: End of 2012 season-Liverpool FC relegated!

  15. Agree, mate. I will be gutted if we sign Sturridge, especially for £12m. If he's not good enough for Chelsea, where his only competition is (until recently) a badly misfiring Torres, why is he suddenly going to turn it on at Liverpool?

The idea that it's difficult to sign players in January is nonsense. Are we to believe that of all the players in the world, Sturridge is the only striker option available? Give me a break.

Ince, however, could turn out to be a very good signing though.

  16. Would sooner even wait till the end of season than get sturridge in now, hope the deal falls through

    ReplyDelete
  17. Exactly! If he is not even good enough to displace a misfiring Torres and even Moses is preferred to him then what makes him good enough to join us and make us challengers??
As for the young Tom, he may end up being a good prospect in the future but dont you think we have enough of those "potential stars" in our squad already like Sterling, Shelvey, Yesil, Borini to name a few...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, but Ince is arguably further along in his development than Sterling, Yesil, and Borini (when it comes to English football anyway).

Plus, he's far more creative than Shelvey, albeit in a different position.

It's hard to argue against Ince's 13 goals and 9 assists in 20 games. However, if he signs, I want to see him in practically every game. I will be royally pi$$ed if Rodgers does an Assaidi and keeps him languishing on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lets just say definitely need to count fingers on BOTH hands, that is how low it is!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree. Ince needs a few good games to get up to speed.

So what would be our line up?

    Sterling--Sturridge--Suarez?

    Sterling-- Suarez--Ince?

    Etc...?

I really hope we don't sign him.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Statistics points in his favour but lets not forget that it is championship and that 2years ago he was deemed not good enough and allowed to go!
We would do better invest on players that will hit the ground running instead on young unproven talents cause we are gradually losing ground on the top 4 spots and if nothing is done about that we will miss champions league football again next season, we may even miss on the europa league spots!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I hope we don't sign him too, but if we do, I prefer:

    Ince ------ Sturridge ------- Suarez

Let Sterling stay on the bench and play every 2/3 game, so he doesn't burn out. Knowing Rodgers though. we'll probably get this:

    Sturridge ------ Suarez ------ Sterling

With Sturridge played on the wing, where doesn't want to be.

  23. He surely must be a world-beater then.

    ReplyDelete
  24. And if that still doesn't work, get him a sex transformation and put him in the ladies team :-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. If all those crap rumours were true then yes. Hope they are not.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Our transfer record has been patchy at best in the past 20 years.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Didn't Shelvey score 10 or so goals for Blackpool, too, last season? If Ince's finishing is as good as Shelvey's has been recently, then he won't be able to score in a brothel.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Why not put Suarez just behind the centre forward (and drop Gerrard at the same time).

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not correct. We've offered him a contract, but couldn't give him guarantees about regular first team action. He was 19 at the time. At that age two years are a long time to develop. Anyway, he decided that it would be better for him to move on and play regularly. Had we thought that he isn't good enough, we wouldn't have offered him a contract extension.
