VIDEO: £40m Luis Suarez grabs one goal and two assists against Poland. Sell?

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez continued his red hot form last night with one goal and two assists as he helped Uruguay beat Poland 3-1 in Warsaw.

Suarez has now grabbed 13 goals and 4 assists in 21 appearances for club and country this season, and hopefully the Uruguayan's great form will continue until Liverpool sign someone to help him out in January.

Dubious reports today suggest that Manchester City are planning a £40m bid for Suarez in January, and on current form, he's probably worth that much.

Watch Suarez's goal and assists below:

According to the Manchester Evening News:

"Manchester City have no plans to buy Liverpool striker Luis Suarez. Reports in Thursday's papers suggested the Blues are readying a bid of up to £50m for the Anfield talisman, but a senior source at City has confirmed that there is no interest from the Etihad Stadium".

If City were to come in with a £50m bid for Suarez then I would be fine with the club selling. That money would help Brendan Rodgers build a more effect TEAM, which has to be the long-term goal.

Yes, Suarez is scoring goals at the moment but Liverpool are ridiculously over-reliant on him, and that is not a healthy situation to be in.

Sometimes, you have to sacrifice the individual to help the team, and in this case, the sacrifice would be worth it on several different levels.

I sincerely doubt there is any real merit to this rumour though so the point is moot, but others clubs will almost certainly be in for Suarez in the future.

  1. I know you're not a particular fan of Suarez, but if we want to make the Champions Leauge then we have to hold on to players of his caliber. Yes he has his downsides, and bad traits, but if we are seen to be selling our best players, who is going to want to join?

  2. I really hope City are going to pursue him in January. That 40 mil + our January budget will allow us to get some great forwards who also are no divers.

  3. We would get ripped off if we sold him in January, or end up with no one. Looked what happened when we sold Torres. Everyone knew we had £50 million to spend, and knew we needed a striker, so everyone put up their prices, the exact same thing would happen. We would be held to random, and either forced to accept inflated prices, or carry on with no strikers.
If they do want to sell him, at least wait until the seaons is up.

  4. Torres was sold for 50 because Newcastle demanded 35 for Carroll in the last hours and Chelsea felt fine to rise their stake to 50 for Torres.
Having 50+ million to spend when you have declared you are going to sign several players lets others know you won't spend that on a single forward.

  5. 40 Million does sound very tempting. I think letting Luis go in Jan would be suicidal though. Even if we do get a large sum for spending every team will know that and overprice their strikers (Torres/Carroll situation anyone?) I would rather see FSG make a serious investment to show fans, players and pundits alike that we are serious and then we can make a serious push for 4th spot.

  6. simple dont sell spend 50million in january start trying to catch up with the other teams who are investing in there squad also cannot wait for fsgs excuses when financial fair play comes in if they dont spend now they never will

    ReplyDelete
  7. We would sign at least two great forwards with that money, increasing balance and overall quality in the team. THAT is what would serve as basis for our quest for the top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Next 12 transfer windows we'll be receiving that kind of offers, and we should NEVER say yes.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Im pretty sure Torres was sold before we got Carroll.
January is never value for money for transfers and there is no way we would get 2 forwards who would be as good as Suarez for £40 million.
Out of interest who would you sign?

  10. We need to hold onto players of his calibre. I think selling him would only mean a distinct lack of ambition from the club hierarchy. If at all we are to step up that ladder he has a very important part to play. Yes he throws up some antics but we cannot deny the fact that is he is a victim of media witch hunting too.

  11. Here we go again, this is just annoying now the hate towards suarez wont come to an end, as I know we as fans should support the players at this club as long as they play for us lfc but yet no and no suarez should go according to kanwar, really man stop with this you dont have anything in your hands about suarez situation as much as you want to see him out of lfc, how about writing something good about suarez praising him etc. He doesnt deserve this treatment from you or any lfc fan, hope he doesnt hear or read your views, if he leaves then you will see who was suarez and what hes done for this club.

  12. crazy to sell him....and if we didn't waste money on downing, hendo, Caroll (who is shit) don't what anyone says and adam we would be challenging and still be able to develop the youth. Reality is Brendan is doing a great job and i feel he will bring someone of quality to support Suarez

  13. Jamie, you call yourself a Liverpool fan? Ridiculous. Think twice before saying anything about selling Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Who is a great forwrad that is on the market that we are realistically going to sign? What Borini and Dempsey? Can't just assume Brendan is going replace him with the quailty we need.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I believe signing Ba plus Cavani or Torres would serve us well.

I agree that January might not be the best time for transfers, but (1) We now have some chance of top 4 this season and these transfers might be what we're missing to claim that spot this season already. That would be such a welcome surprise for the team still under rebuilding process (2) City will be desperate to sign him in January to boost their title ambitions. They (and anybody) might not pay that much next Summer.

  16. How are you going to replace our ONLY GOALSCORER with players that have no gurantee of getting goals? Sell him in Janurary and we could well be playing in the Championship next season....... REALTALK!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. if we were in the champions league and challenging like we used to with rafa then i would say go for it as we could have replaced him with someone of equal quality and ability but atm absolutley no way he is the only player that we have that could even be considered top class and we will do well to replace him with somebody with half of his ability we need to sign a goal scorer that can compliment suarez and that can work well with him

    ReplyDelete
  18. Cavani! No chance, he would probably £40 million himself. Plus he is playing for one of the top teams in Italy. Why would Torres come back to Liverpool? Ba could be an option, but Newcastle have just as much chance of Champions League as we do.
OUr best option in January is probably Hunterlaar, and he would need someone around him to feed him the goals i.e. Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 40ml is just 5ml more than we paid for Carroll, they need to come up with AT LEAST 70ml, at least.

    ReplyDelete
  20. there is a lot of uproar and dismay in the city today about this story, lot of people kicking off

    ReplyDelete
  21. I dont see any hate in this article? Just him saying he would sell him for £50 million.

    ReplyDelete
  22. how can you describe 12 points in 11 games as a great job

    ReplyDelete
  23. We will have more than 40 mil, as we have some money available for normal January transfer window. Torres might just be forced out by Chelsea (especially if they are looking to redeem some of the money they splashed out on him), and Newcastle might be tempted to opt for 40 mil.

There are plenty of quality forwards around, and they don't have to be as good as Suarez individually. Balance is always better than a team's attacking productivity hanging on a single player.

    ReplyDelete
  24. that's absolutely ridiculous.

    1. if suarez is sold for 50m you can bet your bottom dollar that 50m won't all go to brendan rogers.

    2. when players see us selling our best players they will question our ambition. so will other clubs.

    3. why the hell would we sell our best player to another competitor. i've always said that is a stupid thing to do. when alonso left at least he went to spain.

    4. if we sell suarez in january what will happen is we'll end up with another andy carroll.

if we want to push for european places then we need to keep this squad together and add more pieces to it. mind you if someone came in for downing or cole i wouldn't exactly be heart broken

    ReplyDelete
  25. Seriously, grow up already. As Will says, there is no 'hate' in this article. There is speculation linking Suarez with a move away and I commented on it. Sue me! I'm entitled to my view, just as you are, and if you can't handle views that don't match your own then as I said, grow up.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Isnt Torres Chelseas top scorer? He seems to be doing pretty well now Drogba is gone, cant see them selling him to be honest.
I wouldnt spend more than about £12 million on Ba, and I dont know if Newcaslte will go for that. Maybe a cash plus Carroll deal? as Pardew did say he would like him back.
I agree building a team is better than having 1 individual, but why not build a team WITH our best player in it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Please go an rejoin your fellow Pro-Suarez fanatics on RAWK. People are allowed their own opinions about stuff here, so clearly you don't belong here.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah we don't have to pay 40 for Ba, just more than Newcastle would resist.

Regarding "why not build a team with our best player in it", I recently said I would stop commenting on Suarez's behaviour and character for some time at least, so I'll stick to that here. I'm just going to say Liverpool would benefit in many ways from letting him leave.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Out of interest, if we did sell him for £50million, who would you like to see brought in?

    ReplyDelete
  30. We should keep Suarez at any cost no
Matter how much money is offered. Rodgers
got abt 30 millions and how much have we after
that. Every club is reliant with some player n that's
    a truth.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hope we don't sell Suarez because he is simply world class and we are Liverpool not a selling club we should b looking to buy more world class players not selling them and the simple fact is if we sell Suarez for 40 mil Brendan will b lucky to see 25 of it

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't tihnk selling your best player is any way to build a good team. We've seen in the recent past that having money to spend does not guarantee quality players. Why sell him for 40 when it would take more than that to replace him? It makes no sense

    ReplyDelete
  33. Alright. Apologies Jamie. I said that in a heat of moment. Well, I just want him to stay. He's our only World Class Striker. The owners must back BR in transfer market.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 40m is no guarantee we can replace him with players of similar quality, we have already wasted that kind of money previously, so i would prefer us to keep Suarez. Suarez is currently the only world class player we have and if we sell him it will only be a backward step. Liverpool need to build a squad around Suarez and if we sell our best player then we'll gain the reputation of being a selling club which is not what we want in order to progress as a club.

    ReplyDelete
  35. some people do really need to take off the blinkers and look at things properly! To sell suarez in Jan would be absolute suicide! As Gerrard says he is the best forward we have had in the last fifteen years, a truly world class player that we are fortunate to be able to watch, an entertainer. How would selling our best player benefit the squad? Oh Yeah it would be really easy to just go out and replace him with suitable players in Jan wouldnt it! Everyone is in a queue waiting to leave there clubs to join Liverpool. The reason we rely on him so much is because of the players we have let go. We would be an absolute laughing stock to rival fans if he went and our fans would be demoralized! Some fans obviously dont care about this! If we are going to progress the squad needs to be built around suarez. Its selling our world class players that has led to our decline, why Cant some people recognise this?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Are you for real ?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Torres was sold first!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Very valid points. Thats the reality of the scenario.

    ReplyDelete
  39. No, we have to sell all the players Jamie and OriginalChan don't like. And they don't have to tell us how would they compensate 85% of our goals, and how many players do we need for that.
Help the team by taking off its' head, great one...
While we are at it force Stevie to retire and kill Carra...

  40. I am a fan of Suarez, but I believe that the article has a point. If someone offers 50M for Suarez, it would be hard to say no for the following reasons:

    a) That's a lot of money, even if the owners pocket 10 of that, that's two quality players that could be bought (as long as it's not wasted)

    b) He's a one man show right now, and losing him would force others to step up. You look at the way he celebrated alone vs Chelsea might indicate that the rest of the squad doesn't really care for him-although that's just speculation.

That being said, shouldn't a) not sell to an English team, and b) would not sell him in January, because he's the only player in the squad with any passion and would take a few games for the rest of the team to step up. Further, I'm not sure anyone in the current team has the capability to fill the void, although I'd be interested to see how Borini develops in his preferred central role and not on the wing.

I realize I might get an earful from the rest of the Anfield faithful, but I'm just merely presenting a different argument.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It is much easier to step up with him in the team, if you spread his obligations arround, we will crush.

    ReplyDelete
  42. so you hate suarez good for you jog on

    ReplyDelete
  43. jaimie not every one as the same opinion as you so kindly stop putting everyone down its called sniping as you say to me

    ReplyDelete
  44. jaimie its ok to sell him but realisticly in your opinion who could we replace him with not forgetting our dire league position and the fact that top players want champions league iimo no one of the same quality

    ReplyDelete
  45. True - but if he's causing unrest behind closed doors, it maybe counterproductive.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Brilliant Kanwar! You are a genius! Sell the best player in the Premier League for the TEAM! So Liverpool can buy less quality players (Liverpool can buy 40 players for 1,000,000 each!? or 20 for 2,000000 each! What do you think?). That way Liverpool will have a well balanced TEAM in the Npower Championship in 2013 into the future.
I prefer Rodgers' idea, build a quality TEAM around Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Okay so we sell our best striker and then we have to look for another striker that can be our best striker all over again, which in turn will put us back again in time to get back into top 4, again. We sell him for 40 million, who are we going to get? Some people saying we can get two forwards with that money? I highly doubt these two forwards individually will have the same skill as Suarez. Suarez atm is carrying the team, how many players in the world have that kind of ability and people saying thats FINE we can pick up two players worth 20 million.
    Bullocks.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Imagine we sell Suarez. We buy 2 players worth 25 million. Name 2 players worth that money who might come to Liverpool without CL offering. And compare their impact to Suarez. You wont get many players who finds their place in top goal scorer as well as top chance creator list. What we should do is hold on to Suarez, try bring in players which would be realistic, and hope for CL football.

  49. if torres is worth 50 mil suarez is worth double that... brendan rodgers wou;d have to be in a hole off smoking crack to give the go ahead and sell suarez he is literally all around in the top 5 strikers in the world
