Deluded? Boss insists Dalglish flop 'has the ability' to be as good as Berbatov...

With Charlie Adam, Peter Crouch, Jermain Pennant and Michael Owen on the payroll, Stoke City seems to be a retirement home for ex-Liverpool players at the moment. Potters boss Tony Pulis certainly has an eye for players who will fit into his system, and he believes that Adam has the ability to be as good as former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov.

Speaking to Reporters this weekend, Pulis was full of praise for Adam, who left Anfield in the summer. He said:

Pulis said: "Berbatov’s a great player, an outstanding player, and we believe he [Adam] has the ability to do what Berbatov has done.

“Charlie can see a pass and has the ability to open the door. He has looked more like it in the last couple of weeks and he has the ability.

“He scored 15 goals at Blackpool and we want him to get 10-15 goals.”

Adam has two goals in 13 games so far this season, and if he continues that goal rate then 10-15 goals seems a little unlikely.

Berbatov has 5 goals and 3 assists in 9 games for Fulham, and although the London club have gone 5 games without a win now, the Bulgarian is still proving to be a great signing.

In my view, Adam did a decent job for Liverpool; unlike the rest the bulk of Dalglish's signings, he didn't cost the earth, and he actually contributed a few goals and assists.

Last season, Liverpool legend Gary Gillespie made this spectacularly deluded optimistic prediction about Adam:

"I’ve likened him to Xabi Alonso, and in fairness, I think he’s got the capabilities and the abilities to be better than Alonso, and I don’t say that lightly because Alonso is a great player"

I think it's safe to say that the chance of Adam surpassing Alonso is as likely as Stewart Downing becoming Liverpool's top goalscorer.

  3. I would rather have Adam in our midfield then Henderson, i dont really rate Adam but at least he made some kind of effort unlike the floater called Henderson.

  4. Yes, what exactly did Henderson contribute to the cause yesterday, absolutely nothing. This was his first league start this season too, let's hope it's his last. I was surprised too that Suso did not come on as a sub. He would have been a better option than Joe Cole.

  5. Pulis acts like an escapee from Ashworth.

  6. Adam is a good player but he couldn't handle the pressure of playing for Liverpool and thus was rightly offloaded and same is the case with Downing who is also a good player but i think pressure at Liverpool is too much for him.

  7. But Berbatov is a striker? Is he saying he wants to play Adam as a striker? I knew he'd lost it when he started moaning about Suarez but if he wants Adam to score fifteen goals he should make sure he takes the penalties seeing as nine of those fifteen goals came from the spot.

  8. LOL! Adam did okay for us considering but he is certainly not better than Xavi Alonso. The only reason Adam done so well for Blackpool when they were in the PL is because he had Vaughan doing all the dirty for him...allowing him to go forward.

  10. His scoring record is good the only problem is he aint that good a footballer, his passing and touch arent the best so i dont really see how he can fit into BR's perfect in his own mind style of football

  11. BR keeps taking down the transfer cash available but Tom Werner (Chairman), said 2 weeks ago that he hoped we would be happy with the window in Jan...............who do we believe???

  13. neither mate, i think BR is lowering expectations as he knows he cant attract top stars and Werner just dont understand that BR cant attract anyone and buys everything the salesman tells him.

  20. Wow, are you really slating Henderson for EFFORT? You are delusional, effort is arguably the best part of his game. I don't know what team you are watching.

Charlie Adam was decent, I didn't want him to leave. But now we have our own Turkish Charlie Adam, Nuri Sahin.

People like you are so negative that even when someone like Henderson, Adam, Carroll or even Downing have a decent game you can't acknowledge it.
