€22m star who 'had contact' with LFC admits: Rumours 'please me' - Bid?

Toulouse star Moussa Sissoko has been linked with Liverpool several times over the last year, and over the weekend, the energetic midfielder admitted that he's interested in moving to the Premier League.

Speaking to Calciomercato recently, Sissoko revealed that he is currently mulling over his next move. He said:

"I have not yet decided what to do.

"All these rumours please me, but that is the business of my agent.

"Italy and England are historically among the major championships, but the important thing for me is to play at a high level"

€22m-rated Sissoko confirmed Liverpool interest in May when he told Reporters:

"I've had contact with English clubs, notably Liverpool, but I preferred to commit myself to Toulouse, the club where I have been educated, to get more experience"

Soon after that, Sissoko's representative, Bakary Sanogo revealed that he'd received 'interesting offers' for the player from 'Spain, Germany and England'.

Then, at the end of October, the Daily Mail reported that Liverpool are still 'monitoring' Sissoko, who is free to sign a pre-contract agreement on the 1 January 2013.

With Lucas' fitness a continuing worry, Liverpool arguably need a top quality, strong, athletic central midfielder, and Sissoko seems to fit the bill:

* At the age of 23, he fits Liverpool's 'buy 'em young' transfer policy.

* He plays for a club that's not in the Champions League, which should make him a realistic target.

* Liverpool lack real height, strength and athleticism in midfield.

* Lucas will need time to bed into the team again, and if he has another injury relapse, the Reds will need a replacement. Joe Allen is currently covering for Lucas, which curtails his natural game somewhat.

Additionally, with Sissoko out of contract next summer, there's potential to snap him up for much less than €22m. Worth a bid?

  1. He would be a great signing, our midfield needs a player like him, as its a bit lethargic

  2. jaimie do you listen to what rodgers says there is no money ? and your starting to write like rodgers making excuses for allen yet again britton played the same role for swansea yesterday he managed to get forward and pass forward just ask yourself one question why did no other club even try to sign allen because the rest of the managers did not rate him not at 15 million anyway think rodgers signed the wrong player from swansea on yesterdays performance and left all the good players there.also rodgers stated that lfc played better and got a better result than they did last year at swansea well thats fine brendon but what about the other results you dont come out and say wba hammered us but last year under kd the result was different rodgers excuses are getting perthetic

  3. darren bent or hunterlaar would do just fine although if we have enough we should focus on strengthening up-front and attacking areas as we lack goals because that is the major concern right now I think we can cope in the other areas until summer however i am annoyed that these issues werent resolved the summer just gone assiadi and yesil are yet to feature so whats the point in there arrivals

  5. Jason - I did not say LFC should sign him in January; I stated that he can sign a pre-contract agreement in Jan, and if LFC were to do that with a view to signing him in the summer, I'd be happy with that.

8 games unbeaten now. When was the last time that happened? We are only 4 months into BR's reign, and to write him off now is, with respect, ridiculous.

  6. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/nov/26/brendan-rodgers-liverpool-no-spending

yeah the rumours are incredibly boring. plus expectations have been steadily dampening. BR is doing well. he is using the players that we have well too. A striker would be a nice addition, but maybe borini will come good. lets wait and see.

personally i cant see the owners sanctioning a big purchase (over 8 mill) in the near future. they gave KD a large sum of money and i think it was more of a one time thing.

Lets just hope we get the stadium started asap.

  12. All evidence suggest there is going to be no major spend in inflated January market. Only if the deal suits will Rodgers be moved to buy, i.e. cut price deal for Llorente where he know's he's getting value. If he is going to spend 22 million on a player, it'll probably on a player who can score hatfuls. Save the money for summer and use the time to evaluate who is up to Rodgers long term plans

  15. the players contract runs out next summer he would be able to sign a pre-contract with us that means we will be able to get gim on the free in the summer or for a cut price in january

  16. we wont be spending this january..we will have the same mediocre players playing and be a mid class team..thats frustrating

  17. yep that was rafa .signed joe cole and javanovic nice partin shot that . and 18 mill on the i tie. no more centre mids no more wingers just sign a couple of forwards .if we have no money get carroll back rodgers and give him a chance cos u have treated him like sh$t

  18. Absolutely worth a bid. He could play deep in front of the defence or play up top behind the striker if Rodgers needs to "flip the triangle".

  19. £20 million..FSG won't spend that in the summer, let alone January, dream on, we need owners with a passion for football, not turning a quick buck.

  20. see they have put there rounders team up for sale .hopefully we are next .a nice rich arab or a ruski will do!!!

  21. i really hope that liverpool fc is on for sale soon and another owner who is ambitious and has the financial capacity to transform us into a winning team takes over..i am sick of rodgers and fsg mentality of saying they dont have money to buy players and fooling fans about the rebuilding process and the future..if you dont cant handle a legendary club like liverpool fc, let another take over please..if we dont buy world class players we will be always shit..we dont want another crap like borini..its disgusting
