What a joke! Ex-LFC star slams 'laughable' Coloccini red card. Correct?

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has slammed referee Anthony Taylor's decision to send off Fabricio Coloccini during Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Newcastle today.

Coloccini went in with his studs-up against Luis Suarez, and although there was no contact, Taylor dismissed the Argentinean for 'serious foul play'.

Owen - who spent a few years on the treatment table at Newcastle, before transferring onto United's injury list - conceded that Liverpool 'were the better team' on the day, but he criticised Taylor's decision to show the red card. He barked:

"He [Coloccini] didn't touch him [Suarez], and to say there was intent is laughable.

"Let me tell you, he kicks a moving ball a thousand times a day and doesn't miss it once. If he wanted to connect with a standing leg then he wouldn't of missed.

"He pulls out at the last minute and doesn't touch him. Not having that's a red at all".

Looking at things objectively, there's no doubt that the referee made an understandable decision, but it did seem a little harsh. As per usual, Suarez went down like he'd been hit by a tank, and I'm sure his exaggerated reaction played a part in the referee's decision.

At least Reds fans can now stop moaning that Suarez doesn't get any decisions in his favour. Quite a few referees would've given just a yellow card for Coloccini's challenge, but the red card gave Liverpool a huge advantage against a tiring Newcastle team, but the players just couldn't capitalise.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew accepted Taylor's decision, but maintained that there was no intent from Coloccini. He noted:

"I don't think there was any intent but we accept it. He [Taylor] said he thought it was serious foul play. We accept his decision and I thought he had a good day"

A few points about the game:

* Liverpool should've won, and once again, poor finishing let the side down, especially from Jonjo Shelvey, who had at least three gilt-edged chances to win the game in the second half.

* Raheem Sterling was lucky to stay on the field. He kicked out twice at one Newcastle player (which the referee didn't see), and Steven Gerrard had to intervene to stop Taylor punishing Sterling for another rash challenge.

* The final ball was pretty dire all afternoon, with Jose Enrique being particularly wasteful.

* Absolutely superb goal by Suarez, but Liverpool's over-reliance on the Uruguayan is becoming a problem.

* I didn't see the point in replacing Suso with Shelvey. That change meant there were 4 central midfielders on the pitch (Gerrard, Allen, Shelvey, Sahin), which inevitably caused the team to play narrower, and without much width.

* Rodgers obviously saw that, and brought on Downing for Sahin, which basically made the earlier substitution redundant.

* I would've preferred to see Assaidi on the pitch instead of Downing, who added nothing to the team's attacking play.

Rodgers' team are unbeaten in 6 of the last 7 league games now, which is a big positive, but the last three games have been draws, and the need for another goalscorer in the team is becoming particularly acute.

  3. Why not argue against Owen instead of sniping against him?

  4. I am a qualified Ref, Owen look up Law12... Serious foul play - Lunge, Excessive force, endangering player equal a Red Card.

  5. michael owen is a laughable has been with an over inflated sense of self worth. as for suarez going down like he had been 'hit by a tank'? i would say it was more of an evasive move. he sees a player lunge towards him, how does he know he isn't going to connect? suarez getting out of the way had nothing to do with the correct sending off. take off your anti-suarez hat just for once please.

  6. Why not argue? Read my comment again. He is gone bananas since BR rejected his return to Anfield on free transfer, no matter what he does or say now is completely useless. And you my friend Jaimie, will always argue anything and everything surrounding Suarez. I would really like to know what Suarez has done to you? Nightmares or something? You got to tell the secret that's troubling ever since Suarez was signed. Maybe we could help.

  7. Chirag, right on. I was sure JK wasn't going to put an article praising Suarez's monster goal and game. But I was partly wrong. He managed to put an article about Suarez supposedly exaggerating. Btw, it looked like there was contact to me. But even if there wasn't, Colo ran through his back.

Suarez is also responsible for global warming.

  8. Well said chirag

  9. My points about Suarez are fair. There was no contact, who why did he go down screaming like he'd been clattered? Is that the right way to behave?

Whether you think anyone cares what Owen says is irrelevant; that is an attack on the person, not Owen's actual opinion. As such, it's a pointless comment. If you disagree with him, argue against him.

  10. What will you chose Jaimie? Liverpool selling Suarez and relegated to Championship or Liverpool with Suarez fighting to get back where we are suppose to be?

Thank God Saurez dodged that ! or else it could be a season endiing injury for our best player by miles ........ miles ....Tell where do u see thegoals flyin in from if Saurez is not saving us .....stop living in La La Land ...

  12. Relegated to the Championship? Aren't you embarrassed to exaggerate to that degree?

It's always this way with LFC fans though; they always deify one player and treat him like a God, and then labour under the delusion that without this player, the club will collapse and die.

If Liverpool lost Suarez tomorrow, the club would not get relegated, it would just force other players to step up to the plate, and we've seen that happen countless times before. Examples: Henry left Arsenal and they didn't suffer; Liverpool's actually perform just as well without Gerrard in the team.

  13. So why wasnt Sterling sent off?

He should have gone a second time for kicking out

  14. Yet another cracking performance, we have to limp to the window then get a striker to help Luis, 10 goals in 15 games for him. The man is sheer class and works so hard for the shirt!!!......................love him!!!

  17. The “talented” manager hails each LFC’s game as, “an outstanding performance!” We should all congratulate him then for another “successful” day at the office at Anfield. The “talented” manager who was appointed by FSG is really transforming LFC to a relegation contender team by performing outstandingly! Congratulations to Brendan Rodgers for “his hard work and huge achievement” and congratulations to FSG for appointing such a “talented” manager! If this is what we should all expect from him and FSG, then God help us!

  19. Evasive move would be a good argument, if it wasn't for the screaming like a girl and rolling around on the floor like he'd just been shot. Suarez is a wonderful football player, unfortunately he's also a cheat. I'm sure Mr qualified ref above can cite us a nice Law from his book regarding simulation.

  20. Jaimie, just watched it again in slow motion. Afraid you are wrong - missed his right leg but caught his left heel/ankle - east to see in slow motion/freeze frame. Probably hurt as well!

  21. Before you haul Chirag over the coals for sniping doesn't the third paragraph in your article contain a thinly-veiled snipe at Owen?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Your view makes no sense Jamie. Saying that the red card was harsh because there was no contact suggests that Suarez should have stayed still and took the impact in order to 'honestly' get the decision. Contact is immaterial. The issue is intent. If one player spits at another but the victim swerves away and the spit misses, should that go unpunished because there is no contact? If Suarez evades the tackle and stays on his feet there is no free kick and no red card for a potentially career ending tackle

    ReplyDelete
  23. i wonder why michael didn't stay on his feet when he confessed he went down easily to win england a penalty? serious foul play, dear michael, that is why he was sent off. and he is supposed to be a professional who knows about the laws of the game?!?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I guess that's a matter of opinion. I can see why you would think that, but to me, I'm just stating a fact: Owen was injured a lot at Newcastle and United. I didn't personally insult the man, or suggest his views are worthless. He's entitled to his opinion just like the rest of us.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't agree there was intent. To believe that means you believe that Coloccini went in with the intention of trying to cause Suarez injury with his exposed studs. Only an imbecile would no something like that and expect to get away with it.

  26. spot on Costas ...spot on ...why did we get rid of king Kenny for this ....Can U imagine what BuckRogers would say if we had actaully won .... poor decisions wen we need to push on for a win ...why bring on downing instead of Assidi and Allen ??? he was very poor in the first half and he will play forever under Buck Rogers .... If King Kenny made mistakes then Buck is def not learning from them ...

  27. I agree to an extent. Rodgers has a habit of overpraising players in every single game, and today is no exception. He needs to be a little more honest about the reality. Perhaps he thinks that the constant praise builds confidence or something, but results suggest that his ego-massage isn't working as intended.

  28. Your last line didn't come last time when you were saying Suarez intended to harm Distin?

  30. See my earlier reply to Jamie - there was contact on Suarez's left foot - easy to see in slow motion/ freeze frame.

  31. Evasive move. That is exactly what every paper up and down the country would say it was would it have been Rooney, Bale or any of their darlings.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Quit clearly against cayabe he took the ball that's why gerrard was so incensed.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Suarez made significant contact with Distin, and he was nowhere near the ball when he did it. Also, don't twist my words please. I never argued that Suarez 'intended to harm Distin'; based on the available evidence, I argued that he deliberately fouled him. There is a difference.

  35. it is my opinion that he is far past his best, and judging his past, where, he has openly admitted going to ground under no pressure, it was a bit rich for him to comment on such matters. but as you say, everyone is entitled to their opinion, unless it is an opinion that you don't agree with? is that so very wrong? if insults are banned, isuggest you should scrap this post, as michael was insulting the referee, by giving his opinion and saying it was 'laughable'. a bit picky? maybe, but that is a description that can easily be labelled at your good self. 'pathetic really'......insulting your posters, one rule for one and all that eh????

  37. We would probably struggle very badly without Suarez to be honest. He is head and shoulders above our other players.

    ReplyDelete
  38. All opinions are welcome, as long as they do not contain personal insults against players, managers, other posters etc. It has nothing to do whether they agree with me. It makes me laugh whenever people say that; look around - the majority of posts disagree with me.

To me, it's pathetic if people can't discuss/debate without hurling insults/derogatory comments. That is a general comment; it's not directed at an individual.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Actually there was contact and it was a red as it was very late. He had time to pull out more and we are lucky he didn't break Suarez's leg. I'm not Suarez's biggest fan in terms of his character, but fair is fair Coloccini looked like he intended to do him. If you wanted Suarez to go for the Distin challenge the Coloccini has to go for this as it was arguably more dangerous (higher up on the leg and incredibly late). So, this was not a decision for Suarez, this was correct and fair. In fact Suarez and a shout for a pen earlier which he was denied.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sterling needs some anger management training. Maybe he is growing too big now. What does he actually think.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Don't blame Owen he is just someone like the rest of us who has an opinion - whether it's right or wrong. What I really cannot stomach is someone like JK who masquerades as a Liverpool supporter but (for reasons best known to himself) consistently seems to trawl around for material to denigrate LFC managers, players, staff and supporters under the guise of someone representing our deficiencies to the football fraternity at large.

Examples of his subjects for criticism have been Rafa Benitez, Kenny Dalglish, Andy Carrol, Steve Gerrard, Luis Suarez etc., etc

The club we love is currently struggling to improve and is far from perfect so we don't expect commentators to be looking through rose coloured glasses but for goodness sake do endeavour to make your criticism and comments a little more positive and supportive in future JK.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I find it strange the the Newcastle manager has accepted the red card as the tackle was "not very clever" (or words to that effect), but a very vocal Liverpool fan who runs his own LFC website doesn't. For me, there was clearly intent, he lunged at Suarez with his studs showing.

What else could he have been intending, other than taking out a player who had made him look rather silly from the opening whistle?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Given our form during the second half of last season, we were relegation contenders back then, so it is not Rodgers turning us into that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. lets all have a go at suarez the cheat lets forget he scored a great goal and rescued a point lets deflect the fact that allen was shocking lets all get behind rodgers the savior

    ReplyDelete
  45. Perhaps he thinks 'I won't go public with my opinion as the media will have a feast if I did'. He knows that every word he says gets published all over the place, twisted, turned and maybe taken out of context. I agree that he is overpraising our players, especially Allen, but I can see why he might do it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If he didn't talk a good game, he'd get slaughtered by the supporters straight away.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Both referee and linesman clearly thought there was intent, each of the pundits in the studio apparently agreed. I was at the game and could clearly see by the speed, angle and nature of the challenge that there was intent to harm. Coloccini was being embarrassed by Suarez so tried to take him out. Why else would he challenge a players' standing leg from behind with raised studs? As to your assertion that only an imbecile would attempt to harm Suarez and get away with it you clearly haven't watched any Liverpool games this season.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The fact Pardew said himself it didnt look good on the replays and accepts the red card tells you the decision was justified as if it wasnt you can be sure he would be the last guy to say that, i think JK that you will make Suarez at fault in some way or another regardless what happens and considering he IS without doubt our most important player and you are a Liverpool fan i find it quiet shocking, fair does he can dive but who doesnt given the opportunity?

  50. Lets also forget without him we would have absolutely no threat what so ever in the team, the guy never stops working, gives everything he can and clearly fights more for his team then anybody on the pitch, if the rest of the squad made 80% of the effort he does we would be a lot better off!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Michael Owen is becoming more irrelevant as each week passes. From the day he left Liverpool he has been nothing more than an expensive substitute resented by his current and former clubs for putting his own financial gain before any loyalty or commitment to a sporting cause. His chances of playing for England again are gone and he is treated with derision in the most of the places he once called home.

His tweet was the comment of a man without insight, intelligence or loyalty.

  54. who cares what owen thinks? pardew admitted that even colocinni looked at the replay and admitted how bad it looked. enough said about that.

moving on to our performance. it is upsetting to watch our inexperienced side. the few experienced players we have are clearly feeling the pressure. should have kept some of the experience we had (kuyt, maxi and bellamy) i am not sure why bellamy went but the other 2 would have stayed if felt wanted. and might have chipped in with a few goals..

    look forward to jan 2013....

should we start a fund...if we all chip in a few bob maybe we can buy 1 striker. i mean berbatov and dempsey cost 10m between them. even if we could afford one of those. lets say £10 each. so only 1million lfc fans needed worldwide. cant be that hard to raise the funds can it?

    ReplyDelete
  55. but he dived he started the hurricane in usa hes responsable for global warming lol

    ReplyDelete
  56. pardew and colocinni have "accepted" it. there are 2 things here. if it wasn't a red then there is no way pardew would stay quiet about it.

the second thing is knowing it was red pardew is making the most of the situation. he saying the right things to look good infront of refs...hence sucking up to make sure his team gets treated fairly by refs in next few matches.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Arsenal compete in the Champions League year in/year out and have had consistency in a manager for years, so they're able to replace top talent with other top class talent. Liverpool don't have any of those benefits, and as you pointed out that LFC are overreliant on Suarez, so losing him won't be a positive thing. When Xabi Alonso left - did that force others to step up? Yes, but nobody had the ability to. Where are our goals coming from if Suarez leaves? Borini? Gerrard?

Yes - Suarez cried out; replays show Coloccini's studs raking his leg. Half the players in the premiership would have cried out had that happened, Coloccini had it out for Suarez after the preceding events - no doubt red card, no matter what Owen thinks.

Point is - Suarez has improved his attitude since he publicly vowed to after his limp dive a month ago. No obvious dives since, is passing the ball a lot better to players in scoring position (ie/ Shelvey - who can't finish his breakfast!), and is noticeably making an effort. He clearly had an amazing game today yet you still find a way to bash him.

I do think we may lose Suarez this summer - particularly to Atletico if they lose Falcao and they qualify for the CL, but I don't think our supporters should push him out the door.

That said, love your site and I usually agree with your opinions (particularly with FSG and BR), but with Suarez - not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Agreed - but it was very subtle, even in the replays and because he didn't catch him none of the Newcastle players lashed out. He got lucky, and BR should give him a tongue lashing.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Downing laid on a "gilt edged" chance for Shelvey, author's words.

That challenge on Suarez was outrageous, there may be an extended ban for serious foul play.

Suarez had made a fool of Collocini for entire 2nd half and ultimately resulted in a coward's challenge.

To suggest otherwise is totally mischievous, and suspiciously controversial.

How Michael Owen can defend that tackle is beyond reason. A vicious, opportunistic attempt to injure a skilful attacker.......

    ReplyDelete
  60. For me, it was a red card. The way he lunged in and where the boot hit landed, was reckless to say the least. Regardless of whether Suarez made a meal of it or not, it was a reckless challenge. You can't be having studs going down the back of the lower leg like that, regardless of intent or of how bad/light the contact was.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Would you have been satisfied if contact had been made ? Had Suarez made that challenge you would have been all over him like a rash! The tackle was dangerous. If you watched the replay it was the assistant ref who advised the ref to give a red card. Suarez wil surely pick up a yellow in the next match or two, and then you can have a field day castigating him for getting a suspension. The lad can't win with you !l

    ReplyDelete
  62. JK, please explain the difference between doing something deliberately as opposed to doing something intentionally. I honestly think they are the same.

Perhaps the difference is that in one Suarez was the aggressor and in the other he was the victim?

    ReplyDelete
  63. 'It's always the same with LFC fans'

And what exactly is that supposed to mean ?

You consider yourself different or somehow better than the majority of LFC fans because you don't like Suarez and 'they' do.

Every club has an idol.. Always have and always will.. Indeed they come and go and the club goes on and a new hero fills the vacum. C'est la vie...

You've never had a player you've worshiped/idolised at LFC ?? To sneer and snipe (and suggesting a comment or people are delusional and/or suggesting the poster should be embarrased by his views is by 'your' own standards sniping) at LFC fans because they choose to support and in some cases idolise Suarez is hypocrictical in the extreme.

Your not a better person or supporter for the stance your taking on Suarez..Although I believe you think you are.. The moral higher ground is not a place to be taken to lightly and your obsession with him along with ever other media source is quite staggering.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Jaimie, Coloccini getting sent off for a stupid and dangerous late lunge does not constitute 'suarez getting a decision'. I think even a Johnson/Reina hater like you can now see how much we miss them.

The problem with players like Allen. I.E players that just pass sideways and backwards and supposedly keep things 'ticking', is that when their passing game is a bit off, they are liabilities. I find it strange that you found reason to criticise Suarez, Sterling, Shelvery and Enrique, yet not one word about Allens continued impotence

    ReplyDelete
  65. Also, I can find plenty of examples of players exaggerating pain, im sure you can too, yet you pick on Suarez

    ReplyDelete
  66. Intent, studs up reckless challenge say what you like about suarez reaction but that deserved a red. After years of collecting splinters in his arse, Michael Owen has now finally proven he is as far removed from a footballer as Ali dia is.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Perhaps you need to stop being so childishly precious over Suarez.

So JK says he didn't argue that Suarez 'intended to harm', instead argued that Suarez 'deliberately fouled him'. That is not the same thing at all but not because of deliberately & intentionally. But because of the big difference between 'Harm' and 'foul' (in the sport context). That is the key difference here. One thing to harm, another to foul. Don't know why on earth you homed in on 'deliberately' and 'intentionally'. Surely got to be better ways for you to pour pity on Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  68. What Barraob1 said. Considering how reluctant managers are to condemn their own player's fouls in public, the somewhat muted posts-comments by Pardew were his implied acknowledgement of the reckless nature of the challenge

    ReplyDelete
  69. So worrying the stark difference in his cutting edge to the rest of the team. He is damn good but the others? boy they can be so ordinary. Goes to show how good he is as well as poor the team is in general in that regard

  71. I thought he Suarez caught (albeit a glancing blow) on the back of the knee, but there you go. He went in studs up, knee high and the ball had long gone. He also had a couple of other kicks at him and slyly tripped Suarez after he had played Sterling in on goal.
A great display from Suarez and a wonderful goal, and some of you lot have managed to twist it into "The cheat got Coloccini sent off...."

    Go figure.....

  74. Apologies, am I conversing with Nok, Original Chan or JK? Or maybe they are all the same. Nok is responding to my comments to Original Chan and to JK with an anger and hysteria that one would reasonably think the original comment was directed to him.

Also, save the personal attacks. It is infantile and against the rules of this site.

As to your response, I am sorry but it is laughable. JK himself said in this thread that to think there was intent is to think of intention to cause injury. Since a deliberate act is defined as an intentional act (look at any dictionary), your argument becomes non-sensical. So Chirag's comment identifying an inconsistency in JK's position is valid.

Funny that, considering you like to dramatise and sensationalise comments by posters, such coming out with rubbish like 'hurt', 'feelings', in relation to posters, all because you get all precious over the fact that you can't seem to accept that people have different opinions to you, so you react like a silly inept scorned female

Please do not get involved? This is a forum, I can post wherever like, when I like, just like you are seemingly allowed to target posters on here who accidently trod on your hurt ego by disagreeing with what you say.

My adding to this discussion is no worse than what you add to discussions with your funny narrow perception of what 'fine' could mean. It isn't as closed case as you make it out to be, as to what he meant in this particular instance. Open for different interpretation, something which you yet can't comprehend.

Oh no, another person dares to disagree with Cemf26. It can't be, it must be the same person over and over and over and over again(!) Yes, I'm Nok, JK, OriginalChan, J e s u s, Alex Ferguson, Tom, Dick, Harry, etc(!)

I'll look at a dictionary, if you look at a thesaurus for 'fine'(!)

  83. It was a red card plain and simple. You can´t have it both ways. Go sliding in with your studs up and it´s a red card. Care to make a gif of him not touching him by the way? It looks a lot less sore in slow motion. A few minutes earlier the same player took Suarez out of it after the referee had blown for a foul on the Liverpool player. He´d been skinned so many times he was frustrated. I actually would prefer to see someone diving (especially if it saves him getting injured) than seeing a player endanger another player´s career with a terrible tackle.

Suarez was outstanding today. I´m very happy he didn´t get injured, they really do try to kick him off the park at times. And how many times did he go down today looking for a free. Looks to me that he´s cutting it out of his game. If he did, then what would you write about? :) His brilliance? One of the top players in the world for me, and happy to have him.

Also, all those articles about stats don´t way up any more because he´s converting chances. That´s the problem with statitics (what´s the expression, "statistics and damn lies"). It´s the reason we bought Carroll and Downing after all. Statistics. Makes you ponder, eh?

  88. Five responses in three minutes! Time to take your medicine. You are getting too worked up over comments not originally directed at you. Funny that neither Original Chan nor JK felt the need to respond, but you have in vitriolic fashion. Maybe the other poster is unto something.

  89. Funny that, your hardly a tortoise yourself when it comes to commenting today, as proven to your many replies to me. Nice own goal(!) What is with the hysterics? I thought you were against hysterics from the get-go(!) If you were so anti-hysterics, you wouldn't have bothered to bite and reply even twice to my so-called hysterics today but here you are, biting once again for the umpteenth time with your usual hypocritical hysterics. What a 'fine' post you submitted (!)

  94. I think No1Kopite has hit the nail on the head here. Gets right to the crux of the matter I would say. Players sometimes try to avoid injury by moving away from a tackle. That´s the thing with being a dribbling player. Stop them at all costs. "Only an imbecile would do that." Roy Keane did that. Rooney has done that. Gasgoine did that. It happens. Many players in the heat of the moment act like idiots and do something crazy, that happens all the time. And the point is they don´t think (i.e. expect to get away with it). I think you´re going overboard trying to pin this one on Suarez, and it shows that your agenda is not attacking diving (as was your response to a comment I made on another article), but in my opinion it makes it pretty clear that your agenda in the last while has been attacking Suarez. As usual Shakespeare said it best: Jaimie... "doth protest too much, methinks." ;)

    ReplyDelete
  95. On the available evidence you will never know what he intended to do. And if he told the truth to you that he didn´t intend to you would probably not believe him. You could also argue the opposite of what you´ve said "on the available evidence." Cemf26, the point here was harm or foul, not deliberate or intentional. P.S. Arguing is fun. :)

  96. Perhaps you and Michael Owen should have stood there and took that challenge, then you could decide properly if it was a red or not.

The cameras clearly show coloccini trying to break the leg of Suarez. So why wasn't Suarez sent off?? That would of been his second yellow for being kicked!

In the first half coloccini clearly kicked him inside the area and there was no card for Suarez there, even though his standing leg was clearly chopped in full view!

Suarez is a lucky boy if you ask me!

  98. You are now banned. I'm sick of idiots like you sniping and making up rap. You can now go eksewhere and spout your rubbish. And yes, I'm aware that I just broke my own comment policy, but since you're no longer a poster, it doesn't matter.

  99. Anyone against the red card are delusional. Its like drifting a car around a parked car and almost crashing but you managed to pull out with just a scratch. Reckless. It was towards the end of the game that he got sent off, where the tempo was high, and it took its toll on the defenders judgement no doubt about it. What if he slipped and took Suarez out, when I saw the replay, and the way he lifted his leg it was like a horror movie, thank god for the good ending and the lack of contact.

    ReplyDelete
  100. But you haven't banned 'Nok' for having his breakdown live on the 'Net?

    Hmmmmm....

    ReplyDelete
  101. Jaimie,

Your assertion that Suarez is a diver is over zealous as regards this match.
The highlights on BBc show clearly at least 3 challenges on Suarez by Collichini.

    Please keep thing relevant.

Michael Owen asked to return to Liverpool recently and Rogers said no.
Owen didn't comment on the other two tackles by Collochini.
    Funny that.

  102. "Suarez" our best player by miles, but you can't spell his name properly - come on now!!

  103. spot on mate, he talks the talk but doesnt walk the walk

    ReplyDelete
  104. i agree Joe Allen was terrible yesterday and how he can praise him like he does I do not know. To me he is a very ordinary player who cannot pass long, cannot score and gets no assists, your granny can make a 5 yard back pass, to think 15m wasted on him and 11m on Borini, 26m could buy 2 decent strikers easily

    ReplyDelete
  105. I didn't say he dived, so don't put words in my mouth. I said he exaggerated going down.

    ReplyDelete
  106. What is your point? And what does this have to do with anything? Nok hasn't broken the comment policy; CFM - who has been banned before under several usernames - did.

    ReplyDelete
  107. That´s what I thought too. It looked like he was wound up and was trying to take him out of the game. It´s debatable whether he connected or not, but the area he was aiming for with his studs would be considered serious foul play, so for that reason, he had to go.

    ReplyDelete
  108. You might do the same if someone slid in very quickly at you trying to injure you and you thought you might be about to get your leg broken. For example if someone pulled out a toy gun you might scream, even though your normally so objective and calm. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  109. A week ago Saurez made 2 worse challenges than that made by Colloccini. He maybe was lucky to have been playing this week.

    ReplyDelete
  110. So according to Michael Owen's theory, footballers hit the target 100% because they shoot the same ball a thousand times. Ok, but how does that account for missed sitters, missed penalty kicks, miskicks? Pathetic rhetorical argument.

Regarding Sterling, I don't think he deserved a red, as some are suggesting for his tackle on Cisse. Cisse overexaggarted the contact quite dramatically and Sterling did get some of the ball. However, Sterling was pretty luck when he did not connect with that rather snarl kick on a Newcastle player. (and this continues to disprove Owen's theory btw..)

I think Rodgers should have a talk with Sterling because his decision making when it comes to assists has to improve. Sterling must also work on his emotional intelligence. Being nearly 18 years old, he is bound to have some problems until about he reaches 21 because the part of the brain which controls rational thinking would still be underdeveloped compared to the part which controls emotions. Given that is an adolescent plying his trade in a grown man's world, becoming emotionally intelligent is a must for him to ensure his survival as a top player for the future.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Rodgers said Allen was a bargain at 15m! And they say us Geordies are deluded! Brendan 'ok ok ok' Rodgers has obviously never met the lad who scored Newcastle's first goal. Mainstay of France's midfield, score goals, makes assists and was less than 5 million...

    ReplyDelete
  112. That's the same with most managers mate, especially at a massive club like Liverpool. He needs to stop kidding the fans and start telling the truth, it's patronising. His interview was laughable and although we played poorly and had 3 players subbed due to injury, if that was Liverpool being outstanding as he claimed then I fear for you.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Look if Colo wanted to injured Suarez he would have. He isn't that bad he would miss from so close. If you look at it again Colocinni is going to block a flick round the corner but Suarez sees him coming and plays it on the floor, leaving Colocinni flying in on one leg unable to stop his momentum. His leg flies through Suarez's contacting his shorts and the edge of his boot. Jamie K is spot on in his assessment.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Well, that´s just like your opinion dude. I´ve looked at it from several different angles and to my eyes, he´s nowhere near the ball. The linesman is right beside the incident, seeing it in real time, and he mouths "red card, red card". He made the decision, and being so close to the action I´d trust his opinion over yours, especially how, in the current climate all you hear is that Suarez is diving all the time, so officials are probably influenced by that. Players are saying it to the officials. You can see Gutierrez gesture that it was a dive. It just doesn´t cut it. And it´s not all his fault, there is a clear media bias against him. It´s rare that Jaimie is spot on in his assessment of Suarez in my opinion. I´m biased when it comes to Liverpool (I can´t help it :) ), but it looks to me as if Jaimie hasn´t liked Suarez (and has stated so) from the beginning and so I think he´s biased in his assessments of Suarez´s actions. I definitely don´t think he´s being open minded there. Then again, that´s just my opinion. I can´t know for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  115. we need to buy a player that can convert the chances that are always created by Suarez. the only player that comes to mind is Ugandan goal machine Brian Umony. Suarez shouldnt be the main goal scorer but the main creator

    ReplyDelete
  116. It was a red whether Coloccini hit Suarez or not. The intention was the cause. However, play acting by Suarez helped to make the point.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I only hope the referee just missed it but it was a sure red card to Sterling.
