Play me or I quit! Unhappy LFC star warns he may 'move on' in Jan. Problem?

Liverpool winger Dani Pacheco has warned that he may be forced to leave Anfield in the 'near future' if Reds boss Brendan Rodgers continues to keep him on the fringes of the first team squad.

In an interview with the official Liverpool FC website today, 21-year old Pacheco admitted that he hasn't 'played as much as I would like this season', and insisted he is 'doing his best to improve' his game after feedback from the manager.

The Spaniard stressed that he is 'determined to make it at Liverpool', but he also expressed his disappointment at being ignored for much of the season. He said:

"It's difficult when you don't play too many games. The most important thing for a young player is confidence. You get confidence by playing every week and I haven't done that yet.

"If I didn't have the belief that I could become a regular here I would have left already. I'll try to make sure that in the near future that happens. If it doesn't happen I will move on and try to make it somewhere else.

"There is still a month-and-a-half before the transfer window opens. When January comes I'm sure I'll have a meeting with the manager".

Pacheco's frustration is certainly understandable:

* Only 170 mins of football for LFC this season.
* Subbed off/on the bench in all 3 games in which he's featured.
* In the two games he's started, he was subbed-off even though LFC were winning.
* Completely ignored for league games.

Pacheco is only 21, but it seems that he just isn't going to get a proper chance at Liverpool. It's a massive shame because he is a talented player, and if Rodgers had given the youngster the same opportunities as Suso and Sterling, it's possible he may have grown into the team.

How can Pacheco get experience or build any rhythm/understanding with his team-mates if he's never given a consistent chance?

If Pacheco is given a fair chance to succeed and proves to be a success, he could ultimately end up saving the club £10m+ on buying someone like Theo Walcott.

Having said that, Oussama Assaidi is a Rodgers signing and he is constantly ignored too. The Moroccan wasn't even in the squad for Sunday's 3-0 victory over Wigan. He definitely isn't injured, so why was he ignored?

It seems likely that Pacheco will probably end up leaving Liverpool in the summer, or even in January; at his age, he needs to be playing football regularly, and unless something drastic changes with Rodgers' thinking, that's not going to happen at Anfield.

  1. Think it's obvious that Rodgers doesn't rate him which is a shame because I think he has ability. Maybe it would be best for his career if he moved on. Assaidi is another one who it seems is not a managers favourite, whenever I've seen him he's impressed me but he only seems to play in the Europa league. Maybe he is paying the price for a poor showing against Swansea in the cup??

  2. In the games he has played he has been poor. Has 3/4 years on sterling and suso and is playing nowhere near the same level. I won't be too upset if he leaves.

  3. Nowhere near the level of Stirling or Suso has had enough chances over the years and various managers have continued to over look him, even when on loan England and Spain.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!! If he was do you think BR would hold him back? Obviously not looking at his track record of playing young players who are good enough.

  4. The manager is the one who bought Assaidi he needs more time we will see more from him 2nd half of the season Brendan hasn't lost faith in him already you read too much in to things.

  5. he has had to use young players because he had no choice. He sanctioned the departure of Bellamy, Kuyt, Rodrigues, Aurelio. Adam and did NOT bring in replacements. The use of the young players is not by design. He had no damn choice.
Robinson, flanagan, sterling, Kelly made their débuts earlier than the apprentice

  6. danny wilson has struggled in the premiership everytime he played and didnt even get a game last season and if anyone was to play him it would have been dalglish

  7. i totally understand him. unfortuneately he hasnt ever get the chance he deserved! about 2 years ago we all hyped around him, and there is a lot of potential in him. maybe he isnt that strong as sterling or that tactical great as suso, but im absolutely sure he would score goals for us if we play him more often and give him the confidence he needs !
    So we have 2 possibilities!
    1. we use to play him and use downings benchplace for him - im sure we ll profit from that. we use him as a substitute for suso or sterling
    2. we sell him as expensive as we can ( maybe 2m ? ) and use the money to buy a proven player!

  8. he did play last season as he spent it on loan at Blackpool

    ReplyDelete
  9. It would be shame if he left and proved himself at another club, just like Tom Ince at Blackpool. I would give him 5-10 games and then let him move in if nothing happens.

  10. Our biggest problem this year is the depth of our team- lack of players essentially. And yet we have got two that are not happy with minutes spent on the pitch(one of them brought this year, by this manager).
    Interesting...

  11. Brendan Rodgers has shown this season that age is no barrier to playing for the first XI, simply put, at t his moment in time BR doesn't think he's good enough to merit a place in the team. I'm happy to trust the managers opinion, since he works with him everyday! .
If he wants to leave then let him, I understand his frustration but sumo and sterling are playing, so either raise your game or jog on

  12. simple fact is he is just not good enough... roy the boy didnt fany him, king kenny didnt fany him and now neither does BR. obviously he aint good enough day in day out in training coz if he was the out of all the above mentioned brendon rodgers would have deffo given him a chance! time to move, it hasnt worked for him. bye bye!

    ReplyDelete
  13. lol @ fany him, it should say fancy him but fany him does have a wee ring to it...

  14. Pacheco is good enough. His path does not lie in liverpool though these things happen. Overlooked by three managers already he needs to move on and further his footballing career. Id be sad to see him but ultimately for him personally it might be a good move.

On the topic of BRs favouritism I forsee this becoming a nuisance. The earliest chance to prove this will be when Borini returns suso, sterling or assaidi will see less playing time.

  15. Never does anything when he does play. Don't let the door hit you on the way out Pacheco.

    ReplyDelete
  16. he has been given chances in less important games and has done little to earn his place. Others such as wisdom and suso seized there chance. P.s Assaidi had a shoulder injury on Saturday.

  17. HAVE A DAY OFF KAANWAR

  18. Rogers has given more opportunites to the young players than probably any other manager in the PL. Pachecho is frustrated becuase he hasn't taken his chances. The writer of this story must think it is a manager's job to rotate every young player through the first team.

  19. always reading about his natural talent, but just never saw a glimpse. frustrating.

  20. Assaidi picked up a knock in training. Was in line for his first start before that.

  22. Well maybe he had to let those players go, for financial reasons (wages) and didn't have much money to play with in terms of replacement. In a salary table published in late spring, we were high up the table, especially for a side that has not had CL money for a few seasons. You can only carry a big squad with squad players on big money for so long without CL money. Add on the results of the money we spent on players under KK.

No CL money for a few seasons + big squad and/or high wage bill + rubbish spending by KK = cost-cutting

Yep, Rodgers had little choice but to play the youngsters. But maybe we shouldn't be too critical on him in relation to the lack of replacements. I don't blame FSG for cost-cutting or being frugal in the summer, if that is the case. Although there has to be a time where they have to say gamble and dig deep, e.g. the desperate need for a striker.

  23. Hmmmm. Where does it say, "Play me or I move on"? Interesting journalist twist on what was actually said

  24. Assaidi was injured. No way this guy Kanwar supports LFC.

  25. Dani's a talented lad but didn't step up to the mark in any of the games Rodgers' has played him... His goals to games ratio is nowhere near where it should be for a forward, so maybe a loan move to a Premiership side is what he needs..

    ReplyDelete
  26. Saw him at Wolves last week (U21's), and he looks like he's matured a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sorry Dani but you've still a lot to learn if your air-ring the dirty linen at a time when if Suarez gets injured you could be called upon. Although I think Morgan would get the shout first.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Kuyt had already agreed to leave, Maxi and Bellamy went for non football reasons, Aurelio was just to injury prone and Adam well he's gone and we have much better. Pacheco never seems to be able to turn it on when it matters, Sterling and Suso are making him look average at best. It may be best he moves.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pacheco has impressed with the U21s but has generally disappointed when playing for the first team. Correct me if I am wrong, but his loan moves have not been very successful either, with Atlético failing to take up an option to buy the player last season. Nonetheless, I am still hopeful that Pacheco can develop into a first-team player under the guidance of Borrell and Rodgers. Watching some of his recent performances for the U21s, it was difficult not to be impressed - and the last player to impress with wonderful goals at the U21 level was a certain Raheem Stirling ...

  30. You my are a rare breed coz u see the bigger picture. Our wage bill was too high for, at best, an average side so we had to let some of those high earners go.

    ReplyDelete
  31. IF BR practices favoritism. then why is Assaidi not even on the bench? he signed him.

    ReplyDelete
  32. maybe time to move on,assaidis not going to be more than a bit part player decent against lesser opposition not up to the big games imo

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've watched all of our youth games live on LFCTV, Danny Wilson is slow and brainless, Pacheco is very inconsistent and does not yet deserve a game. Jordan Ibe is a much better player as is Jerome Sinclair both 16 years-old, Jordan Lussey, Michael Ngoo, Adjordan are all ahead of Pacheco at the minute.............................the one to watch is Jordan Ibe as he is top quality and played for Wycombe at 15 years-old..............class!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Can't agree as he is defensively very average, scores the odd goal but he is a defender first!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Got dropped pretty quickly by Holloway!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Assaidi is on a very intensive Weight-Training regime to build him up, he is lightweight and the club know it. He has not been overlooked at all, he just needs to be stronger in the PL.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Let him strengthen himself now then have a look in the new year, he just needs to put some timber on but no doubting his talent.

    ReplyDelete
  38. and maybe he did not have a clue what he was doing

    ReplyDelete
  39. Kudos to Dani for waiting so long.....but after 3 managers, i would have thought it was obvious that he isn't meeting the clubs expectations. For his own sanity, he should go.

    ReplyDelete
  40. With the current state of the squad, you would have thought he was worth a go. He works very hard too. I'd like to see Assaidi and him start against Young Boys (I'll be furious if Rodgers doesn't drop Suarez).

    ReplyDelete
  41. BR will play a strong team 100%, im in the Upper-Centenary and expect a very good game!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. To be fair, he never broke through at LFC, he never got a lot of games when he was out on loan. Whever I've seen him play he looks a threat but there is something missing there if five or six different manager don't see him as a starter for their team. If he wants to leave, he should leave.

    ReplyDelete
  43. agree but if rodgers dose not rate him he should move him on and bring someone else in

    ReplyDelete
  44. Been saying he is over rated by alot of Liverpool fans for years. He is not good enough so if he leaves in Jan so be it. He didn't really make an impact when he went on loan to other clubs where he played more regularly either.

  45. assaidi was going to start ahead of enrique on saturday but he failed a fitness test. so you are definatly wrong as usual

  46. Laughing my arse off about Di Matteo!!!!!! :)

Until I heard Rafa is the favourite. :(

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'd like to see Pacheco given a decent chance. On occasions Yesil and Morgan have been picked ahead of Pacheco.

And somehow Joe Cole made the bench last week when that spot should clearly be given to someone else.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Absolutely dreading Benitez taking over at Chelsea, can't blame him though after being overlooked by us last season. Funny that after leaving us 2 European champions have deemed him good enough to manage them, but not us

    ReplyDelete
  49. My point was based on 'ifs' and 'maybes' too, admittedly

    ReplyDelete
  50. Be serious. Chelsea think he's good enough for a few months until Guardiola takes over. If Benitez takes then job, he'll get sacked just like Di Matteo

    ReplyDelete
  51. Do you really think it's funny that a guy who was a loyal servant as a player and a manager and who brought the club more success than expected gets sacked after a couple of poor results?

    ReplyDelete
  52. And so will Guardiola for that matter...

    ReplyDelete
  53. First of all one is speculation and the other sacked him after six months a run of results which equalled our last season under him. He was deemed good enough for LFC when he won us the CL and the FA Cup as well. It wasn't until he started paying big sums of money for injured and/or ineffective players and until he started alienating the top players we had that he was deemed no longer good enough.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Benitez will be no more than a caretaker until such time as Guardiola takes the reins. Given the choice of a 'long term' manager at Chelsea, Guardiola wins hands down ! Mind you, Rafa might put a smile back on the face of Torres, poor little lost soul. I almost feel sorry for him.

    ReplyDelete
  55. As crazy as it might sound, imo Guardiola is unproven. He managed possibly the best team ever and got results, WOW. The continued success of his successor proves this. If Barcelona win la liga this season will that make Tito Vilanova better than Mourinho?

  56. I did only say, "a bit" !!!!

  57. Knew someone would get pompous.

Laughing at the Circus that is Chelsea FC since the oligarch took over.

  58. Love Rafa Benitez and i would wish him well, he can't wait for Liverpool forever.............................he has my blessing anyway!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. That's what I said he hasn't been overlooked lol anyway I think Suso could do with bulking up as well I've seen him get pushed off the ball far to easily at times.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Pacheco shouldn't be given a chance just because he is young. Unfortunately he has flattered to deceive in terms of performance levels and wasn't always a starter even when at Norwich in the Championship.

On what basis do you say that he should be given a run of games?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Obviously not doing it in training!

    ReplyDelete
  62. At the end of the day Benitez, Hodgson, Dalglish and now Rodgers all have assessed him and have not deemed him worthy of a regular squad member. Sterling and Suso have grabbed their chances when they have played even as cameos, so have deserved their place in the team. Just a shame that Pacheco hasn't kicked on. For me he just lacks that little bit of dynamism and purpose you need to be a success in the Prem. If you are a skillful player you can be neat and tidy, but you also need plenty of good balance, strength, decent pace and a cutting edge. You look at similar players, players that Dani is aspiring to be like, Carzola, Mata, Silva... all have decent pace, supreme balance and attacking purpose. They are not big muscular players, but they have a presence when they are on the pitch. Suso, I think has this, I just think Dani lacks those certain attributes to make it. A shame, wish he could've done it but alas younger and hungrier talent have leapfrogged him.

  63. LFC better loan out Dani Pacheco and Danny Wilson to Premier League clubs only.I think Norwich City or Swansea City is the right clubs.
