Confirmed LFC Line-up vs. Newcastle: Senior duo miss out again. Suso returns...

Glen Johnson and Pepe Reina miss out again for today's vital must-win league game against Newcastle at Anfield.

Ongoing fitness issues with Reina and Johnson mean that Jose Enrique and Brad Jones stay in the team, and Suso, Sterling and Wisdom also return to the starting line-up.

FULL LINE-UP

Jones, Wisdom, Enrique, Skrtel, Agger, Gerrard, Allen, Sahin, Suso, Sterling, Suarez.

SUBS

Gulacsi, Henderson, Assaidi, Carragher, Shelvey, Downing, Coates.

FORMATION

------------------ Jones

Wisdom ----- Enrique ---- Skrtel ------- Agger

--------- Gerrard ----------- Allen

------------------ Sahin

Suso ---------------------------- Sterling

------------------ Suarez

Speaking to the BBC, Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson gave his view on the game:

"This is a tough-looking game for Liverpool against a Newcastle side that I feel have played better and should have more points than their league position and tally suggests so far.

"It is a massive game for Reds boss Brendan Rodgers too. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way his teams play the game but the problem is they have to get results too"

  1. if pepes not injured rodgers his forcing him to hand in a transfer request plain and simple

  2. What exactly is your problem, Jason? Pepe is injured so your comment is pretty pointless. I have nothing against you, but your comment let's me wonder whether you earn your money creating the headlines and articles for the Daily Mail.

  3. each to there own personally i would like to keep our big name players to show to over players were still a big club not a selling club with no ambition whitch we are fast becoming under the people you are so behind

  4. The to-be-signed January goalscorer will fit in nicely in this formation.

    ReplyDelete
  5. A bit worrying to have no striker on the bench, but Yesil has looked quite a few years away from being ready for the first team. Wouldn't have been the worst move to now give Morgan a run-out to see whether he is a bit further.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I just wonder why Assaidi never gets a chance to start a PL game ....

    ReplyDelete
  7. morgans had chances this season and he wont make it at lfc or mybe he will in the direction we are going

    ReplyDelete
  8. Reina has not been at his best over the last 2-3 seasons so this might just be a kick up the bum to let him know that if he wants to be number 1 then he will have pull his socks up. If Reina is injured then him not even being on the bench is understandable but if he is fit to play then Rodgers has guts to leave him out which sends out the message that if you do not perform, you do not play.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You sure Enrique is CB and Agger is LB. According to the lineup picture

    ReplyDelete
  10. agree but not on the bench no rodgers ego will be his own downfall why not rest allen at least we might see someone make a forward pass oh forgot rodgers bought him and hes world class

    ReplyDelete
  11. assaidi will be fine against the weeker teams but against the better teams he will struggle

    ReplyDelete
  12. Shite. Where will our goals come from in this game

    ReplyDelete
  13. am sure newcastle will supply one lol

    ReplyDelete
  14. Allen is well over rated. Ive watched my team be reduced to a mid table team like Villa. This is not a good time to be a Liverpool fan

    ReplyDelete
  15. He has appeared for 62 minutes and you are writing him off already. I'd like to think that at the age of 18 he still has quite some time to develop. But then I also think that most of your comments are very negative.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Allen is occupying Lucas' role. Have we known Lucas to make forward passes on a regular basis? Until Lucas is back, Allen will have to do all the dirty work. Lighten up mate.

    ReplyDelete
  17. He started the game last Wednesday, albeit in the League Cup, but didn't shine at all to say the least. That performance is rightly not rewarded with a start in today's match.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Probably a typo. Rather Jones up front, Gerrard in goal, Suarez right-back... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. agree about allen i would like to see more creativity out of him i think he must be worried about his pass stats thats why there all 5yards and sidewards

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm surprised that Suso starts ahead of Assaidi yet again. Hopefully Gerrard is been moved into the front 3 and Suso plays through the middle this time.
Otherwise I see early substitutions for Suso and/or Sahin yet again

  21. sick of hearing the excuses for allen lucas tackled and gets stuck in alen does not and he hardly bursts a gut to get forward like to see shelvey for allen but its not going to happen the only way he will ever not play his if hes injured and also ive asked this question to every one whos used the lucas excuse whos fu4king place his he going to take then

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jason I suggest you support another team and stop being so negative and blunt. Its kinda getting boring now. And reading other peoples comments I don't think they are even interested in your comment. YNWA for life. So MR I KNOW IT ALL, go on and just walk alone.

  23. Rodgers wants reina out simply! Like his ideas not sure if he's implementing them the right way! Changing to much to soon! Jones is a championship standard keeper at best! Awful punch last week brought Everton back into a game we were controlling up until that point! Hope
Reina injured cause reina 70 per cent fit better than jones 110 per cent

  24. Great start from us. Very good tempo.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 5 poor passes by allen so far under no real pressure

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow, we had four players plus the man with ball in the box. Rare.

    ReplyDelete
  27. As I was coming online to post this. Not.impressed by Wisdom today. Foul throw just led to goal. Poor. Plus he wasted a good crossing opportunity earlier

    ReplyDelete
  28. FFS. They have barely been in the game but boy, they took their chance when it came. For all our dominating, barely any shots on target. Frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ironic isnt it? That Allen has ds stinker of a game just after BR had given him undue overpraisal for hz effort in d 3-1 loss to swansea. He has been very poor. Halftime sub, move gerrard back into a holder and bring on shelvey

    ReplyDelete
  30. We make hard work of things. So indecisive

    ReplyDelete
  31. That's just symptomatic of us though. This is not all about lack of strikers, it's a general lack of decisiveness and cohesion.

    ReplyDelete
  32. no chance him being subbed hes been tripe

    ReplyDelete
  33. Midfield is playing shit, Allen misplacing too many passes and Gerrard too not doing great and Sahin has been anonymous. Need to bring Shelvey on to support Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Rodgers doesn't play Reina because he is injured and you come up with Rodgers wanting Reina out. Oh dear.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Great pass from Enrique. Fine take from Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The commentator on the Spanish (South American) stream I am watching has just sang a song for Luis Suarez. You wouldn't get that from Sky Sports.

    ReplyDelete
  37. We are more direct about our play in the second half, making a difference.

We should be well ahead now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. There will be a lot of discussion about this red card as Coloccini didn't appear to get Suarez with his tackle. But then, according to the book, even the attempt is punishable and it surely was a dangerous attempt.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Definite red card. Idiot Coloccini.

    ReplyDelete
  40. i think thats what happens when you watch it on streams instead of sky sports lol

    ReplyDelete
  41. Deserved red card. Crazy thing to do.

    ReplyDelete
  42. So on Sky he caught Suarez?

    ReplyDelete
  43. yes but no doubt some people will say he dived

    ReplyDelete
  44. WHY CANT SHELVY

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well, maybe I should edit my initial comment to 'he didn't appear to catch him in the pixelated stream'.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Very disappointed we didn't win that, considering how poor Newcastle were (to be fair, they were disrupted with the forced Perch & Ba changes but even before, they were as a team poor). We had the chances in the second half to do so. Poor first half, in terms of not creating much with all that possession.

Pleased to see the team to deviate from the Plan A somewhat, by playing with some direct tempo and width on the left in the second half. Not just because of the pass but also because of his width going forward, he made some good contributions today Enrique. Ben Arfa, although he was poor on his own, but Enrique & co dealt with him fairly well.

Suso did well in the first half but in the second half, barely noticed him. Didn't help that most of the play was going on the left but still, its a ongoing theme with him, this disappearing for some parts of the game. Hopefully with time and better understanding within the team, he will be able come into the game more.

  47. And sterling misses too many chances too im sick of it bring class players here enough with "young talents"A

    ReplyDelete
  48. Luis Suarez: Only saving grace LFC has his season. What a player...!! world class...!! He is not RVP who will wait for players around him to serve him...he is everywhere on the pitch...!! I would like few good qality wingers coming in January and serve the mighty Suarez...he will turn into Golden Boot contender...what a player...what a goal...absolute class..!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'd love to have seen Morgan get some more starts, I don't think he's gotten enough of a fair test so far to say he will or won't make it. But agree on Yesil, he hasn't shown a lot in the moments he has had.

    ReplyDelete
  50. There were some points today where Allen was looking very much like Ryan Babel, giving up the ball every time he touched it. Kind of made up for it later. I agree, over-rated. But I'm not really impressed with any of the BR signings.

On the good side. A lot of improvement today. We owned the ball 2/3 of the time and dominated passing. Defense started to look a little better. And it actually sounded like Anfield for the first time since Rafa left. The point in the 65th minute where the crowd energy and volume picked up, was amazing. It was like listening to a Cup final at home. So good job to the fans at the match for finally making some noise and getting behind the lads.

On the bad side though, we still can't find the back of the net very well, defending was still crap, and we're still stuck at 11 in the tables. Agreed, not a great time to be a Liverpool fan.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think BR just finally figured out you could coach them to do that.

    ReplyDelete
  52. How many different starting lineups have we had though. It's like Rafa with the tinkering. You never know who will start. There's no real way for them to gel as a unit if they don't play together consistently.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It was very clear he was deliberately going for the back of Suarez's calf with his spikes. Red card was well earned. If anyone yells "diving" for that, they deserved to be called out for the fool they are.

    ReplyDelete
  54. No need to shout, hzr.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Will you pay for those class players? The transfer market is inflated due to the spending power of a few oil financed clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Agreed. Very disappointing result. That much control of the game, and that many shots, we should have had at least 4 shots in the back of the net. I liked the game plan, but it's still the same Rodgers flaw, if a quality squad plays a long ball against us and that Defense is going to get beat. Too much attack, not enough D.

Enrique looked good! I was surprised by it. If he played like that all the time, I'd rather have him than Johnson.

Allen was horrendous today. He should have been off earlier with Shelvey in and Gerrard moved into the center.

Was finally happy with the fans too. As I said above, it sounded like a Cup final was being played at Anfield. It was the first time since Rafa that the crowd was that loud and energized for the team. Too bad it didn't help and the end result wasn't a win. But it sounded like Anfield for the first time in a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Exactly the same starting line up as in our last league game. How come that is tinkering?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Suarez is world class. How frustrating it must be to be surrounded by mediocrity. It boggles the mind that some people still question his talent.

Sure, maybe he took 7-8 shots and scored once, and the stat monkeys will say that his finishing is off. They don't understand the game. Suarez was everywhere and was sublime. Not once did his teammates set him up.

The anti-Suarez brigade says he is selfish. Yet he set up Sahin, Sterling and Shelvey with glorious chances. Shelvey's miss would have been embarrasing at a park pick up game. How a professional can miss that is beyond me. Sterling was set up by Suarez one on one with the goalie and took forever to shoot. This game proved again that LFC's best option is for Suarez to take it on himself instead of passing. The gap in quality and work rate was apparent in the first half as Suarez took on three defenders, beat them and then crossed to the middle where...there was not a single LFC player anywhere near. It is troubling when your best player works harder than everyone else. Phone call for Gerrard: he decided to stop tracking back and left Cabaye alone on the first goal.

I'll take his antics anytime. This guy cares more than the other ten players on the field. No wonder he is frustrated half the time. Phone call for the referee (who did well otherwise): it was a penalty in the first half. That is 5 non-called penalties and one valid goal disallowed in the first ten games.

Hats off to The Telegraph for managing to mention Suarez's alleged "penchant for diving" in the first paragraph of its game report. Not easy to do when Suarez scores the game of the season and there was flopping all over the field but not by Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Enrique's pass was "great", and Suarez's goal was "fine". It must rankle to have to praise Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  60. yet another 'fan' with no vision or long term thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Everyone says that we need another striker. And we do. But as much as we need a striker, we also need a midfielder who can take on and beat the opponent's midfield line. We don't have one and that's why we are not generating as many chances as we need. Can anyone think of a goal by Suarez where a midfielder set him up one on one with the goalie? And please don't mention Enrique's pass today because that was a prayer.

Gerrard doesn't have enough gas in the tank, Allen is allergic to forward passes, Shelvey hardly holds on to the ball and Sahin does it rarely. Suso looked good in the first couple of games but he has not been incisive since. Too much passing around without getting past their midfield line...

    ReplyDelete
  62. love to see allens stats for today he was woeful another rodgers dodgers me thinks

    ReplyDelete
  63. Did you guys really think Enrique looked good? Sure he set up the goal and it was a good ball, but he gave the ball away countless times and his crosses were sloppy for the most part. And he was turned inside out by Ben Arfa on the goal. I'll have to disagree with the both of you on this one - that's two league games on the trot that he was exposed and had led to a goal.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Each and every word you said is absolutely correct. Fuck Anti-Suarez clan.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Overall I think this is a bit of a disappointment. Same old story - couldn't bury chances, couldn't really create clear cut chances in the first half despite all the possession in the opposite half, and needed to rely on Suarez to rescue a point for us at home. Is there anyone else who can score goals in the league? Suarez has 6 goals in the league, and the next nearest are Gerrard, Sterling, Sahin, and company with 1 goal - that's 1 goal 10 games for attacking players!

I suppose we're still in a rebuilding phase and that's why we're starting with Sterling, Suso, et al but it's still very frustrating as a supporter when we could have climbed to within 4 points of 4th spot and couldn't take it despite all the chances we had.

    ReplyDelete
  66. He caught enough of him - ppl who say Suarez dived are hypocrites as anyone in that situation would have gone down to prevent their leg from getting broken in two places.

    ReplyDelete
  67. take the 5 goals and 3 points away from norwich and it would make suicidal form

    ReplyDelete
  68. You don't really grasp the tactics and formations in football, do you ....

    ReplyDelete
  69. First.)

It's really hard to play good yourself, if the whole team plays poorly ....

    Second.)

Every player has some poor games ....

All in all, by having Sterling and Assaidi on the pitch we have much more firepower and pace than with Suso being played out of position (if Suso plays, he should play behind the striker).

I am great fan of Suso, but not out wide ....

    ReplyDelete
  70. There are so much idiots posting on here, it's just pointless ....

    ReplyDelete
  71. a synonym of 'fine' can be 'beautiful', 'admirable', 'magnificent', 'elegant', etc. It certainly was a take to admire from Suarez.

But hey, don't let me stop you from interpreting what someone else says to suit your petty agenda, i.e., boo to 'mean Suarez haters'. Cheerio.

    ReplyDelete
  72. There surely are plenty of hypocrites working in the media.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'd have to go back and watch it again, but it felt like Allen was giving up the ball like his name was Ryan Babel. If Jose gave it up more, it must have been spaced out, because it didn't seem like it was as bad as Allen. And he didn't give it up near his own goal, that alone is improvement over the past few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  74. How do you think these world class players develop? You've got to start them young (like Steven Gerrard, or Wayne Rooney) and bring them along. If this were his second or third season (Jordan Henderson for example) and he was still doing nothing, then you ship him off. But he created chances, and that's a good start. Imagine when he is developed enough to finish them off. He'll be incredible! Admittedly, he could suck too. But it's too early to tell.

The bottom line though, no one better is getting here until January, might as well play the hell out of him until then.

    ReplyDelete
  75. My only response to this, even as a fan, I have to admit he does go to ground a little too much and a little too easily. He's not alone in that though. As much as the older guys like Eric Cantona like to yell about players diving, it's been a common tactic for every team since as long as I can remember.

If he could and would stay on his feet more often and not protest so much, he could be even better. But otherwise, 100% agree with your post.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Sadly, it's going to be a rebuilding phase for a long time. I don't see the January window solving much. We'll need at least another summer window to bring in some talent, and even next season I don't see us cracking the top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Enrique was useless again, check the stats...he gave the ball away 17/18 times in the game! He also attempted 5 crosses, all of which were unsuccessful! He may have played a DECENT ball to Suarez who the turned it into a good ball with his sublime touch and finish.

I think you'll also find the goal we conceded to be Enriques fault as he was beaten far too easily by Ben Arfa, Sterling doubled up and Enrique still allowed him past! Awful, as soon as the window opens I'd trade him for a packet of quavers.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Agree with your comment. I think he argues too much at times. He does go to ground easily, but I don't think that is bad. All players do it because no referee will award you a foul unless you go to ground. In my book, exaggeration is a necessity of the game, while diving is wrong. I believe Suarez rarely dives.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Don't look now but Suarez has scored more goals in the league than the rest of the Liverpool team combined.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Sorry I hurt your feelings JK, I mean Original Chan.

On a side note, your synonym explanation was funny. Synonym for funny: laughable.

    ReplyDelete
  81. add 3 against everton and 2 against mancity

    ReplyDelete
  82. Lol how pathetic and dense was your reply (although funny too but not in the way you intended, unless you like being laughed at negatively).

Your reply got mocked so easily, so your latest reply is to come back with a load of verbal diarrhea to save face in a failed and laughable manner. Nice one(!)

'ooh you must be JK' - ouch(!)

Amusing how you made a fool of yourself with your narrow perception of what 'fine' could validly mean and you continue it with your 'laughable' comment at the logical & reasonable synonym explanation. You need to read more, a lot more, 'fine' can be as good/complimentary (or better) as 'great'.

You got shown up, get over it, instead of replying with a childish hurt ego & digging a deeper hole, as doing the latter simply puts you in a bigger bad light than it does the person you are replying too.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Your narrow minded and caveman-like perception of what 'fine' can mean got made a mockery of by a reasonable, logical and valid explanation. Only one that seems to be hurt is you, as you still can't seem to accept that 'fine' can mean something as good/complimentary as 'great', if not more. You need to read more, a lot more.

You and your childish hurt ego should get over it, instead of making yourself come across even worse with the nonsense like your latest reply such as childish jibes like 'sorry I hurt your feelings JK', as all it does is put you in a bigger bad light than it does the person you are replying to.

    ReplyDelete
  84. "Narrow-minded and caveman-like", "you need to read more", "your childish hurt ego", "nonsense", "childish jibes", etc. Why the hysterics? To paraphrase JK, it is pathetic how some of you people cannot argue civilly.

BTW, How many usernames do you have?

    ReplyDelete
  85. "cannot argue civilly" and "why the hysterics". That is funny, hypocritical and idiotic coming from you, considering your replies ("hurt", "how many usernames do you have", and "...feelings JK, I mean Original Chan"). Lovely mix you got going on there, with the silly hypocrisy and the childish hurt ego. Your coming across great(!)

Usernames? Don't know what your on about. I guess this is yet another one of your baseless accusations.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I like Jones, but I think that maybe the tragedy in his personal life has influenced my opinions.
The facts are that he cost us last week, and he ducked under Cabaye's shot today. I hope BR is not simply making a point with Reina, because that's 4 points chucked away.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Thank you for your input, Nok. Now go away.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Blimey Nok, that's twice now you've rushed to defend either JK's or Original Chan's honour. I'm sure they can fight their own battles.

    You developed a crush, mate?

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Because he was that busy bawling at Suarez and throwing an S T R O P, that he wasn't ready when the ball did actually come to him.
    The coot.

    ReplyDelete
  90. They must have turned the microphones up then, mate, because it was dead, and has been for a long while. I honestly can't remember the last time the atmosphere was good.

    ReplyDelete
  91. 'twice', not quite a crush yet, can't decide between Mitzu, Chan, cemf26, JK, etc I'm afraid but even than, I am nowhere near your cheesy levels of admiration and affection for Mitzu ;)

    ReplyDelete
  92. haha. You are unto something. He just posted four comments in three minutes defending them on another thread.

    ReplyDelete
  93. 'Thank you for your input' - my pleasure

'Now go away' - nah, I'm learning so much from your civil approach to arguing(!)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Oh no, posting four comments in three minutes is such a tell-tale sign(!)

    ReplyDelete
  95. That is right, you agree with someone (Jim) that has from time to time gone after a poster called Mitzu on this website, belittling his views. Laughable.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Alot can be said about this team, but I think i'm right in saying that this team is inexperienced. Shelvey should have buried his chance, I don't know why he just didn't open up his body and take it with the left. It was a jittery attempt from him, which is surprising since you would expect him to be calm. Sterling is another example, for all his speed, he took way too many steps to execute that shot, which got blocked in the end. Suso can also be guilty of not tracking back, he leaves Wisdom exposed at times, and on the goal, Cabaye was left unmarked. First half was weak from Liverpool, between the midfield and forward 3 Newcastle was defending well between that gap and making it hard for Liverpool to penetrate. Should have won the game though, if Shelvey scored, the guy will hopefully take it on the chin and come back stronger with more conviction, he had his head down a little after that miss. Where would this team be without Suarez, what a goal. Its amazing how these South Americans have such high energy levels. Tevez, Messi, Aguero, Lavezzi, Suarez, Lucas ext. Liverpool should start setting up scounting networks there.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Lucas back ? God forbid

    ReplyDelete
  99. ive seen more football than you will probably see in your entire life

    ReplyDelete
  100. and your comments just agree with mr kanwar makes me think you work for him its quite easy rely dont reply to my comments and i will not respond to yours lol

    ReplyDelete
  101. Compared to your continual chasing of Mitzu since time began, 'twice' is nothing ;)

    ReplyDelete
  102. Stop talking nonsense. 'Works' for me? Are you listening to yourself? Why don't you try and grasp the concept that not everyone has the same opinion as you?

    ReplyDelete
  103. fine i except not every one as the same opinion as me but it seems to me certain people on hear can say what they want but if i reply i get barred maybe have ago at someone else for a change and ps he dose agree with everything you say

    ReplyDelete
  104. The Mitzsu thing is a new phenomenon. Before that I only had eyes for Gab/Gabweb (wherever he may be), and OriginalChan.
    God bless 'em both.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Oh, come on, Jason. You know that I don't always agree with Mr Kanwar and you surely also know that I don't work for him. Just found your comment a bit wayward.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I don't agree with everything he says and some of my comments need moderation, too. You obviously didn't get barred.

    ReplyDelete
  107. What a 'fine' mess you have made of things(!) ;)

    ReplyDelete
