'I like England!' - 'Top' £20m maestro hints at Premier League move. Come to LFC!

Ajax midfield maestro Christian Eriksen has once again reiterated his desire to play in the Premier League, and if the latest comments from Technical Director Marc Overmars are anything to go by, it looks like the Danish star could be on his way out of Holland sooner rather than later.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Eriksen - who recently admitted that he finds it 'very cool' to be linked with 'big clubs' like Liverpool and Manchester United - said:

"I know that there are many important clubs interested in me. It's a nice surprise [to be linked to different clubs]. I never said I would only play in La Liga. I like England and Italy too."

Ajax's technical director, Marc Overmars, admitted this week that Eriksen is still not sure whether he wants to stay or go. He explained:

"We would like Christian to sign a new contract, but he still does not know what he wants," he explained. Conversations with him and his agent have taken place and we will see what happens after December."

£20m-rated Eriksen is a player with great potential, but Liverpool legend Jan Molby is not convinced he's ready to move to one of Europe's big clubs yet. He told Goal.com:

"There is a lot of hype about Christian and there is certainly a lot of potential there as well

"All the top clubs have been looking at him because he has clearly got all the ingredients to one day become a top, top player.

"But Eriksen is nowhere near being the finished article. In my opinion, I don’t think he is anywhere near ready to move to one of the elite European clubs".

Molby seems pretty emphatic about Eriksen being 'nowehere near' the finished article, so I'll take his word for it. Let's just hope he doesn't end up at Man United (!)

United (unfortunately) have a great record over the years of picking up exciting young attacking players, and it would be sickening to see a player of Eriksen's talent ultimately end up at Old Trafford.

Liverpool missed out on another Great Dane once (Michael Laudrup); here's hoping history doesn't repeat itself.

Having said that, it doesn't look like Liverpool or Man United have a chance as Eriksen seemingly has his heart set on a different club, as he revealed in March:

"If I got an offer from Liverpool now, I believe I would reject it. If I did move, it would have to be Barcelona".

Staying at Ajax is probably the best thing Eriksen could do right now anyway; I can't see any upside to him moving to a massive club and sitting on the bench, and/or risking failure at such a young age.

  3. I think Liverpool could seriously get Eriksen in summer because he wants to move but only to a club who can offer him regular playtime for his continued development and i think next season Liverpool could offer him that, if they don't make Sahin deal permanent,as he has been really average so far, good in few games and almost anonymous in most games.

  4. If (and its a big 'IF'), we can somehow sign a player of his calibre, he would slot straight into the top of the midfield triangle and make it his own. Suso would continue improving by playing alongside him for sure. Gerrard can play alongside Lucas. It would be a major coup to get a player like him. We have to show our ambition to persuade him. We aren't where we were anymore, so it will be harder. Offloading surplus players to alleviate the wage bill would help no end in securing quality players.
However, strikers/wing forwards are a must. Sterling will get burnt out in the long run. Cavani would be immense in the perm - quick/strong/skilful/finishing and would surely strike a great rapport with his compatriot, Suarez.
