Liverpool have signed quite a few promising young players over the last 18 months, and the latest European wonderkid to be linked with a move to the Reds is Hadjuk Split wonderkid Josip Bašić.
According to Croatian newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija, a Liverpool scout contacted Bašić's father, Ante, to discuss the possibility of a deal, but the youngster decided against moving to Anfield. Bašić Senior explained:
"I was in Sarajevo at this tournament and a representative from Liverpool was monitoring Josip, and got in contact with me.
"Liverpool asked Josip to come with them to a training camp in late July and early August, but it wasn't an option.
"Liverpool is a respectable club but Josip should develop his game naturally, Primarily through Hajduk"
Liverpool still put in an offer, but it was summarily rejected. Hadjuk Split youth coach, Hari Vukas said:
"Liverpool made an offer, but Bašić refused to travel to Liverpool, he refused the offer and decided to stay and prove himself at Hajduk. Bašić is still young, and he still needs to adapt to senior football. He needs time to adjust to being closely marked by strong, quicker players".
Vukas is excited about Bašić's potential, and he explained why he feels the youngster will be a big success in the future:
"His excellent dribbling skills and ability on the ball reminds me of Ivica Mornar [Retired Croatian footballer]. Josip is also very professional, with a strong character, and a good head on his shoulders"
Bašić - captain of Croatia’s under-17 side - is just one of a whole host of exciting Croatian youngster coming through at the moment. Other talents to watch out for include Tomislav Kis ,Mijo Caktas,Josip Radosevic, Alen Halilovic, Dino Spehar, Šime Vrsaljko and Mateo Kovacic.
If one thing is clear under Brendan Rodgers it's that young players are the future, and if they're good enough, and have the right attitude, the will be given a chance. The emerge of Suso, Raheem Sterling and Andre Wisdom is proof positive of this, but Liverpool also need experience, and it's imperative that the club acquires a few more experienced players in the next couple of transfer windows.

I ain't know nothing about him. :(
ReplyDeleteWe need players for the "now"
ReplyDeleteNever seen him play but being from Kosova b4 I moved to London 20 years ago I used to follow Hajduk Split closely and I can tell u that they have a tradition of producing excellent players. Lots of them went on to play abroad notably in France. They had top players like brothers Vujovič, Sliškovič, Gudelj, Asanovič, Štimac etc. So if lfc scouts made an offer than he must b good.
ReplyDeleteOff topic - If LFC don't win against Stoke and Reading.....BR will be sacked ??
ReplyDelete"BASIC" Maybe his name says it all,
ReplyDeleteThe January transfer window will reveal FSG's intent. i'm hopeful rather than optimistic.
agree with you jaimie its great to get young exciting prospects but like you said i also think we need some proven players as well hopefully the club will act in the next transfer window
ReplyDeleteOf course not. Ridiculous comment
ReplyDeleteFSG have taken their own decision this time...i am sure he'll be given time..even they are not expecting top 4...top 6 or 8 would be great...anything above will be real bonus in BR's first season...he has somewhat solved the problems at one end..if he can find the balance it will be onward and upwards...YNWA
ReplyDeleteYou don't think he will be sacked if lose against Stoke and Reading? Ridiculous on your side.
ReplyDeleteNo chance. Not even close. His job is not under threat, and he'll be here next season.
ReplyDeleteHopefully and I don't think we will lose. We ain't that bad...got better players :)
ReplyDeleteOnly Mark Hughes is now ahead of BR (in betting terms) to get the first boot. I believe in BR but I do feel we have sufficient squad to get the desired results against teams like Reading and Stoke. I wish BR does his best.
ReplyDeleteIf Liverpool have the same form as they have now when we gets around Christmas then I think something must be done.
ReplyDeleteEven john henry understand that to run a football club u need to get results and if u dont have results then you will be sack.
ReplyDeleteFACT!.
Are you joking? do you actually know how things work or do you just watch football on the internet from the other side of the world?
ReplyDeleteIt is actually a far greater dilemma than we think it is. Suppose we are 10th or below in the PL table come Christmas and most of the fans would want BRs head as he proved to be even worse than KD. But BR is thinking of the future while we fans want future but not at the expense of present as no matter how well you plan future, it is not a guaranteed success. So, if FSG goes with the anti-BR fans and sacks him, then what? Who will come to manage below mid-table club with very stiff transfer kitty? No one worth naming about. In that case, BR should stay and continue his project. Some might argue why KD was sacked? Club went further backwards since him leaving. So, what am trying to say that LFC will be in turmoil this coming Christmas if we don't get the results. Or its just me who is over thinking all the stuff.
ReplyDeleteyou are not a real supporter.
ReplyDeleteI 'asked' an opinion, didn't I? Did I suggest that he should be sacked? Besides, I know as much about the things as you do irrespective of which side of the world we are. Don't get irked about questions you don't like, just ignore.
ReplyDeleteHow? I trust in BR and I also did trust KD, what happened? We have to keep an open mind. I am just asking about possibilities here not trying to say he should be sacked. You getting me all wrong.
ReplyDeleteIn betting terms, well, that says a lot then, doens't it. Those who offer betting terms earn their living out of stuff like that. Sometimes they base their 'terms' on actual likelihood, sometimes they come up with stuff like that simply to milk some punters.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to think that, while results obviously matter, fans would not turn against Rodgers as our approach play has impressively improved. I know a few people, me included, who thought that albeit looking quite good under Kenny, there was no game-plan, not even a plan A. At times it felt as if he had told the players to simply go out on the pitch and enjoy themselves. Maybe you can do that when your team is head and shoulders above the other teams in every regard, but not with our mediocre squad. They needed more of a tactical plan.
ReplyDeleteWatching football on the internet from the other side of the world doesn't necessarily lead to someone not having a clue about how things work and the game in general.
ReplyDeleteIf he did the BASIC things right, he'd be an upgrade on Downing already.
ReplyDeleteGiven that a lot of youngsters are getting their chance, I truly believe that our reputation amongst promising youngsters all over the place will be significantly enhanced. Those guys will know that they are not brought here to rot in the reserves, but will soon be thrown into the thick of the action in one of the leading leagues with one of the biggest names in world football.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how impressive we play, it won't mean anything unless we get results. Under KD when we had mediocre squad we finished above Swansea who played 'impressively'. This year we have much better squad (minus Andy Carroll) and much better approach so by Logic we must be in a better position come January compared to last January?
ReplyDeleteYa I know that, but there is fair bit of logic involved in it too. Too many bad results, change is imperative.
ReplyDeleteYeah without young talents mark hughes aint got nothin to do with QPRs position
ReplyDeletejust what we need a midfielder ?????????
ReplyDeleteIm still thinkin bout carroll return you know, its just hes a talent.
ReplyDeleteWell we really should support brendan and the players we have now. the only thing we need to buy is a fast covering centre back and strong. im not playing too much fpotball game and i suggest this because look at vermaelen ,kompany, david luiz, and shawcross. theyve been rock solid these days.
ReplyDeleteI have never feared for my beloved Liverpool but I do now, oh how I hope I am wrong. Too drastic measures too quickly, talk is cheap possession is meaningless in your own half. the crowd are getting fed up with it hence attack attack attack. I hope Brendon get the message before it's too late because the Americans wont. P roove my fears wrong PLEASE.
ReplyDeleteBetter than Borini
ReplyDeleteRemember that Liverpool is a club that always has been here for one reason and that is to WIN!. We are not a club that buy very young players that we can wait 10-14 years and see if that player will be good enough.
ReplyDeleteWE NEED RESULT NOW.
That is reason KD was sacked because 8th place and league cup was not good enough. So if BR don't get better then 8 place in this years league, then he will be sacked.
And that is fact, sorry but that is the way it will go.
Dalglish got removed because he had money for the here and now and wasted it on rubbish. BR wasn't given that kind of money so it isn't the same.
ReplyDeleteWe have no strikers other than Suarez because the Manager never bought any in the 3 months he had to get some - dont paper over the obvious, either that or he was not allowed to which is even worse.
ReplyDeleteas a scouse canadian i watch the lads every chance i get,i like this site as it gives a chance to be part of whats going on.From where i sit (hamilton ont)i see fsg as a business group as well as a sports group, and imo,the young players are the answer,we want proven players now,its going to cost a couple of these promising yougsters in transfer window.Any ideas whos whispering in fsg's ear.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool really need an experienced striker now although Borini needs a chance at playing CF i think he can start knocking them in, i do believe Carroll would have been handy against Stoke.
ReplyDeleteWith young talent yes the club still must try and get the best and brightest it is foolish to think otherwise.
heard about a drawn match bud. and no one likes your comment i accidentally pressed it
ReplyDeleteAwww
ReplyDeleteWrong, Dalglish was sacked becouse of the suarez incident and having owners who are more concerned about how lfc appear to the media,You fall for the spin all you want but some are not so blind.
ReplyDeleteWhat end might that be?..still can't score goals and defence is loads more shaky than last season so not sure where you get "he has solved the problems at one end" from.must be that thing we call blind faith.
ReplyDeleteWhile we shipped out some of the dross, we didn't buy many players. The "much better squad" you are talking about isn't that much better. It is a very thin squad with a lot of very young and inexperienced players in it. Anyhow I still wouldn't be surprised if we were in a much better position come January.
ReplyDeletePlease feel free to take up a loan and put the money on Rodgers being sacked.
