Former Reds striker Milan Jovanovic scored two measly goals during his ill-fated time at Anfield, and in a recent game for his current club Anderlecht, he displayed the kind of finishing that led to him being hurried out of the Liverpool FC exit door.
Jovanovic was Rafa Benitez's final signing before he left the club, and to be honest, it wasn't much of a parting gift from the Spaniard (!)
The Serb's finishing wasn't particularly good during his stint at Anfield, and during Anderlecht's recent league game with Waasland-Beveren, Jovanovic missed an amazing opportunity to score from one yard out:
N’est plus que l’ombre de lui-même le JUDAS by tahamata_47
To be fair, it looks like the cross was just slightly too high for him. Another view is that Jovanovic misjudged the flight of the ball and didn't leap early enough...
A few months after leaving Liverpool, Jovanovic made it clear that he didn't enjoy his time in England:
"I shed lots of tears in England. I felt unhappy every day over there.
"London is a nice place to live but everywhere else is depressing. I have advised [Matias] Suarez not to move to Liverpool.
"They'll throw a lot of money at him but he should opt for Italy"
The striker's comments enraged proud scouser Aldridge, who tore into Jovanovic in his column for the Liverpool Echo, accusing him of 'disrespecting' the club and the city:
"I couldn't believe it when I read that Milan Jovanovic has been slaughtering Liverpool. Jovanovic said he spent most of his time crying when he was at Liverpool and felt unhappy every day in the city.
"Well, I shed a tear every time I saw Jovanovic walk out on that pitch. He shouldn’t have been anywhere near our football club because he wasn’t good enough"
To be fair to Jovanovic, sounded like he was just making a general (benign) comment on English culture/weather/quality of life rather than specifically dissing Liverpool FC.

I'd still have him over Downing
ReplyDeleteAny chance you get to have a dig at Rafa, you take. It's beyond sad.
ReplyDeletewe should sign the guy that set him up with the cross looks quality
ReplyDeletehe didnt cry as much as we did watching him. that guy was rubbish..
ReplyDeletehead down blinkers on pure rubbish..
Just to be clear, we are talking about the same Rafa Benitez who bought Sterling, Suso, Pacheco, Wisdom and Ngoo, without who Breddan Rodgers won't have a squad right now!
ReplyDeleteGet over it Jamie! You may not have liked Benitez but your continual unbalanced disrespect towards his tenure and legacy is tiring .
Every manager makes mistakes.
ReplyDeleteFerguson bought Veron, Taibi, Barthez and so on....
The special one bought Mateja Kezman, Sheva, Shaun Wright Phillips....
Ok Rafa, bought a lot of sub standard players but he also bought quality. He should be remembered for that- GOD, Torres, Xabi, Masch, Agger, Skrtel, Pepe, Lucas, Jonjo. He also massively helped improve Carra, Stevie had his most prolific strike rate under him.
More recently we are finding out about Sterling, Suso, probably Ibe in the not too distant future.
Now we are reduced to attracting players such as Adam, Downing, Borini and so on....
Face it, Rafa, could pull out gems. but with his meagre transfer budget he had to deal and wheel. I am sad when I think what he could have done with 100 mil
Aw, diddums. Get over it already. If you can't hack opinions that are different to your own then don't go online, or interact with anyone else, ever.
ReplyDeleteJovanovic was a free transfer ... basically squad filler. Sometimes these gambles pay off big time, but more often than not they end up as bench warmers who generate a small transfer fee when they leave.
ReplyDeleteIf Carragher massively improved under Benitez .
ReplyDeleteI certainly didn`t notice it .
I recall Hodgson could've vetoed the move but chose to keep him.
ReplyDeleteAnd having read the article title I was somewhat disappointed to see something I have seen other players do. Sometimes you just time the jump wrong. Slightly strange that someone would then make a whole article out of it and try to have a pop at a former manager within the article.
He was a utility man under Houllier - do you not remember, often a left back. Rafa helped him become a top level centre back.
ReplyDeleteSurely any reds fan knows that.
That 'Praet' kid who put the cross in looks tricky enough. We could use a player like that...
ReplyDeleteVery True. Lionel
ReplyDeleteDon't judge with only by 1 goal...
ReplyDeleteBizarre comment. I can't work out whether you are slagging off Rafa or Carra.
ReplyDeleteRafa's last signing was Jonjo Shelvey. Jovanovic was Roy's first signing!!
ReplyDeleteNo, that is incorrect.

I guess you sterted watching LFC last year in 2004-2009 Carra was immence he was even voted the best defender in CL 2004...they were superb with Sammi
ReplyDeleteLooks as if he didn't jump at all, just stretched a few inches into the air.
ReplyDeleteNice one reminding the IRWT brigade that not all of Rafa's signings were the ilk of Xabi Alonso. The revolving door.
That I would call selective perception. There actually is a pic with Roy and the new signings including those two you've mentioned. Now claiming the one transfer that worked out was Rafa's and the one that didn't was Roy's is a really poor effort to twist reality in order to highlight the greatness (especially in the transfer market) of Rafa.
ReplyDeleteOr they cost wages as they simply won't go away.
ReplyDeleteFrom the two seconds I saw of him in that video I'd agree. He's only 18. Send the scouts already.
ReplyDeleteRafa has signed some good players, though it shouldn't be forgotten that there were probably 15 new players coming in every year. At times Rafa's transfer policy reminded me of trial and error.
ReplyDeleteHe was a utility man under Houllier because the Hyypia-Henchoz partnership was pretty good, wasn't it. Same happens now. Youngsters coming from the reserves are used at right-back even though they were considered central defenders before (Kelly, Wisdom).
ReplyDeletestill better than Downing :o
ReplyDeleteJamie mate think you got your "FACTS" wrong!!!
ReplyDeleteStupid article by an even stupider author, say no more.
