'He never recovered!' - Reds legend slams Benitez over striker treatment...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has named an exciting line-up for tonight's Europa League clash with BSC Young Boys.

The best news (IMO) is that Suso is in the starting line-up; it will be great to see the youngster in a proper competitive game for the club.

Andre Wisdom and Dani Pacheco also make the cut, but it's a little disappointing to see Samed Yesil on the bench, as I'm sure most fans wanted to see him start.

Hopefully, the young goalscorer will come on at some point during the game.

FULL LINE UP

Jones, Enrique, Carragher, Coates, Wisdom, Sahin, Henderson, Suso, Downing, Assaidi, Pacheco.

SUBS

Gulacsi, Sterling, Borini, Shelvey, Yesil, Robinson, Wilson.

PROBABLE FORMATION

------------------ Jones

Wisdom -- Carragher --- Coates --- Enrique,

------ Sahin -- Henderson --- Suso

----- Pacheco -- Assaidi -- Downing

With no recognised striker in the side, it seems likely that Assaidi will play centrally; he's played that role for Heerenveen before, and in an interview a few weeks ago he revealed that he can play the 'no 10' role.

Anyone else think that Young Boys should change the name of their team already?!

  2. I am surprised that Rodgers did not take Adam Morgan down to Switzerland with the rest of his team. I thought he performed rather well when i watched him during Liverpool's North American tour. This would have been a perfect game for him to gain much needed experience. Not having a recognized striker forces another player to play in forward positions who might not be all that comfortable playing there. Assaidi claims he can play in the forward position but if he fails to convert easy chances he can't be really blamed because everyone knows he is natural position is out on the wings.

Only God knows why Yesil is on the bench and Morgan not even featured on the team and a recognized winger playing up front where a striker should be. I do not feel that Rodgers is really taking this competition all that seriously. I guess this season whole season should be just chalked up under "experience." We go through this experience now so that we don't have to go through it again. That's how i like to look at it anyway.

  3. Quality own goal!

  4. Agree. That bit of passing to get out of trouble was superb. No panicking; no hoofing. Good stuff.

  5. and Carra was somewhat involved in that too ;)

  6. Gifted a goal. Happy days. Cant complain. Nice to see fair officiating. Dont get that in the epl. Downing is his usual exceptional best. :)

  7. Yes, another instance of players being caught out try play themselves out of trouble.

  8. Got caught out Carra. Enrique did well initially but should have hoofed it Carra-style in that situation.

    Woo-hoo, Wisdom! Great leap.

  9. Good goal, but it's from another set-piece. I hope we see some goals from open play at some point this season.

  11. Yep, caught in two minds when it needed a good old fashioned hoof. Maybe a lack in game time or confidence.

  12. Chill bro ... Pacheco is playing as a striker.

  13. Dodgy positioning by Coates. He should've got that cross to prevent the second goal.

  14. Lovely finish from their player. Looked well dodgy all game and Zarate ends up doing that.

  15. Carra own goal, wasn't it? That would make it 8 overall throughout his career :-)

  16. Wtf Liverpool, you're so shit. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Coates, Enrique, Downing, Carragher of age, Henderson, Pacheco: none of you even deserve to wear the shirt. You've let down your club. Completely disgusting.

  17. Another set piece goal JK!

Defending from both sides has been dud.

  18. Another set-piece goal. Come on! Score from open play...

  20. Chill out mate. Its our reserves playing. Usually id be angry but its not a comp i take seriously. We have bigger problems to worry bout wi the first team.

  21. That was very very nicely done. Shelvey has had a good impact overall, been more forceful through central areas than anyone else. Again, crap defending/pass prior to it from their guy.

  22. Very Steven Gerrard-esque goal there from Shelvey :-)

  23. Shelvey does it again! Confident finish.

For me, crap defending again because in the build up, you could see one of the YB midfielders was doing hand signals for the defence to push up as the YB midfield were starting to press higher up but the defence didn't push up. End result is a huge gap between their defence and their midfield, the mood and movement of Shelvey exploited that really well.

  24. Well, that was an entertaining thursday match. :)

  25. when shelvey came on the field he should've ripped the captain armband offa jamie and said 'the captains here' hands down jonjo shelvey man of the match and borini had a great game to two goals would not have happened if it wasn for him downing still the Achilles heel in the team but all in all great game for the red men YNWA!!

  26. i know its a worrying sign but if liverpool can keep this up till we get a striker in the january window we may actually have a good season fingers crossed for sunday

  27. i like the comments; good when we are winning and quickly to slating mode when we are losing!! ha ha, We played young boys and let 3 in!!! we have utd on Sunday and it will be back to normal service. On Sunday we need a win, we need to at least compete otherwise we will have the knives out when we get a goal against us. fell sorry for BR, may as well call him Cesar and some Liverpool fans Brutus!

  28. Coates has a nag of scoring goals whenever he plays...!! Time to take him seriously. Shelvey is showing how Sahin deal is a waste of money, henderson with 2 assist looked better than sahin. Andre Wisdom and Suso...fast track them ASAP!!! yesil didnt make it but it was understood, we were behind and needed some game changers upfront. All in all nice match, midnight in Mumbai, worth it...!!

  29. Pacheo was very disappointing and Borini showed why he's in the 1st team

Andre Wisdom is a Centre Half and played really well if he doesn't get in the 1st team next season when Carragher goes we'll lose him.

Henderson actually played OK today, but Shelvey showed why is is so much better.
Suso had some tricks but was too far from goal to be a threat.
Still not convinced by Coates,Jones though
Downing did what he always does and for me he should avail himself of the Europa league cus he's just not 1st Material .

    Team for the Mancs?

    Reina

    Johnson Skertel Agger Enrique

    Gerrard Shelvey Allen

    Suarez Borini Sterling

  30. The Bench for the MANCS?

    Subs : Kelly,Jones,Henderson,Carragher,Robinson,Sahin,Yesil

  31. Agreed, this kid is definitely a natural replacement he gets forward defends passes and scores.
What makes me feel really positive is just how young these players are the YOUNGEST SQUAD IN THE LEAGUE
The only oldies are Gerrard Carragher,Reina & Downing and he's 28!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Enrique is a shadow of his former self. He started his Liverpool career brightly, but half-way through last season he form faltered. No wonder Rodgers prefers Johnson on the left and Kelly on the right.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sahin showed a lot of nice touches, great ball-control and passing ability. Don't know why this is a waste of money for you.

  34. I think you are missing something. There are people who back the current manager and therefore try to see the positives. Those are probably the comments you like. And another set of people would rather have one out of Kenny and Rafa as our manager (or some high profile name). They surely would find something to complain if we won 10-1 (no clean sheet).

  35. Carra looked more like the Achilles heel to me. And Henderson has had a pretty good game.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah I know I wouldn't be surprised

  37. What are you talking about? Rodgers took Morgan to Switzerland. Look: http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/reds-name-young-swiss-squad

  38. I for one was not even slightly impressed by him.

  39. JORDAN HENDERSON played well and did some good defensive work. BRENDAN RODGERS should tell PACHECO he was involved in a football match not a game of hide and seek.FABIO BORINI has good movement and I think he'll score goals for us.
NURI SAHIN looks a bit like AQUILANI good on the ball but needs help defensively.I think we'll see the best of him when LUCAS comes back.
SUSO is very good in possession but he needs to look for the ball more but he did the most eye catching thing when he dribbled his way into the box and cut it back for PACHECO.
OUSSAMA ASSAIDI had a solid debut a good run and shot in the second half (played better than DOWNING).JONJO SHELVEYS playing style reminds me of a young STEVEN GERRARD.What's happened to ENRIQUE? The first 6 months he played for us people were saying why isn't he playing for SPAIN.
I would've liked to have seen SAMED YESIL again.I watch him against CHELSEA U21's and he looked very bright.Apart from defensive lapses it was a decent performance and it's good to score a few goals.

    ReplyDelete
  40. true they both were but out of good faith not going to critisize carra that much all i know he needs to stop playing and hendo was good more importantly though assaidi looked sublime can't wait to see assaidi sterling borini/suarez front three

  41. Not worth 5mn signing on + 2-3mn in wages. We already had Allen, Shelvey, Gerrard, Lucas, Suso.

    ReplyDelete
  42. And who says that this is what he costs us? The Daily Mail, one of the least reliable sources?

Suso showes a lot of promise and talent, but he isn't anywhere near a regular starter.

Lucas, by the way, is injured.
