Reds legend Kenny Dalglish has taken another indirect swipe at Brendan Rodgers, seemingly implying that the Liverpool manager deserves no credit for the fantastic development of Anfield starlet Raheem Sterling.
17-year old Sterling has come on leaps and bounds over the last six months, and recently started two league games in a row for Liverpool, a surefire sign that Rodgers's trust in the winger is growing.
Last week, Dalglish indirectly criticised Rodgers for not having enough faith in Andy Carroll, and in his column for The Mirror today, Dalglish seemed to suggest that Rodgers was one of the people rushing to claim credit for the youngster's progress. He said:
"It’s funny the amount of people who are jumping on the bandwagon and claiming credit for Raheem Sterling's development now after they’ve worked with him for a couple of months.
"The people who deserve the credit are the people who worked with him at QPR, Rafa Benitez, who brought him to Liverpool, and the people in the academy at Liverpool who have furthered his football education.
"The NextGen...competition is also one of the reasons why he has made such a lot of progress. You can see the benefits of the experience he gained in the fact that he is in the reckoning for the first team at Anfield now".
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but it seems clear that Dalglish is referring to Rodgers here:
* Who else would be in a position to publicly claim credit for Sterling's development?
* Who else has only worked with Sterling 'for a couple of months'?
* England U21 manager Stuart Pearce left Sterling out of his latest squad, so it can't be a reference to him.
* Dalglish makes a point of omitting Rodgers from his list of people who should be praised for Sterling's development.
* Rodgers talks about Sterling in almost every press conference, mainly due to being asked direct questions.
Dalglish is not going to come out and directly criticise his successor, is he? Reading between the lines, he can only be referring to Rodgers.
Is it true that that Rodgers is 'jumping on the bandwagon'. I don't think so. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find any quote from the manager where he specifically attempts to take credit for Sterling's development.
Dalglish's tactics here are laughably transparent; by raising the subject of Sterling in this manner - and not directly mentioning his own tenure at LFC - he's clearly hoping for a little reflected glory.
To be fair, he does deserves it. Dalglish gave Sterling his Liverpool debut, and the Next Gen series took place on his watch. Making the transition from the youth set-up into the first team can be difficult, and good management is required to ensure the move is successful.
Dalglish is, of course, entitled to his opinion, but the indirect criticism of Rodgers just makes him look a little bitter.

Kenny was trying to save some of his face he when he fail to lift LFC up.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a man who's pretty bitter. I can recall last season when loads of fellow Reds begged for Sterling to get a few starts (I wasn't one of them though). Kenny had none of it, but, as you've mentioned, gifted him a few cameos. Unfortunately he trusted Downing more than Sterling. He could also come out and admit it.
ReplyDeletedalglish needs to act his age and stop taking swipes at rodgers and lfc... if u still love lfc like u said get behind them still
ReplyDeletesad, i don't think BR has tried at all to claim the credit for sterlings progress, i wish sometimes ex-players and managers would just keep their opinions to themselves, it must be hard enough for BR to do the job with out every body having a pop at him
ReplyDeleteKenny is right.
ReplyDeleteDalglish criticised Rodgers "between the lines" as Rodgers did the same against him to justify the worst start from the 1953. You can't outline your vision exposing the facts in a partial manner.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Kenny be bitter after all he done in the game? Some of these johnny-come-lately fans haven't got a clue. Google Kenny's medal haul as player and manager and then tell me why he would give a monkey's about a recent 'flash in the pan' player like sterling.
ReplyDeletehe said QPR staff and rafa deserve credit, but kenny gave sterling game time and took him with the 1st team sqd. but kenny must accept that brendan rodgers was appointed with a better record than kenny has a manager and not on a 1 season record and started to take liverpool places like burnley next yr
ReplyDeleteLot sour grapes their, we forget we need everyone to get behind our team this bickering wont help us reds, those who have been in charge or played for the pool should help not hinder time we said enough is enough YNWA
ReplyDeleteLets be honest I would think in my opinon it would be seen as bitter if KD has been the manager for 3 yrs or so. Fact is he has only been there a year so he was not refering to himself and mentioned the important people in the kids developement which bitter or not is 100 percent true, KD us to praise rafa good signings and the restructering of the youth academy. BR tends not to which in itself says alot.
ReplyDeleteFor the record you can call rafa for many things but remember he did get us sterling!!!
KD has every reason to be bitter I have seen no improvement under Rogers but I am trying to get behind him
ReplyDeletejamie you have said if people dont like what you say go to rawk, so maybe you shouldnt read the mirror and stick to "the sport" and practice what you preach
ReplyDeletefor gods sake give KD a break. gratuitously offensive as always. He is not being bitter but factually correct
ReplyDeleteWhat has The Mirror got to do with anything? Pretty tenuous comparison there (!) Dalglish said something; I gave my view on it. Big deal.
ReplyDeleteHow is the article 'gratuitously offensive'? The only thing gratuitous here is your gross exaggeration :-)
ReplyDeleteRodgers openly criticised Dalglish between the lines, when He talked about wages which didn't reflect players value and worth. Which Manager brought these players? Dalglish's reaction don't come as a surprise, after these comments, made by Rodgers to justify the current mess in our striking department.
ReplyDeleteAfter all, Rafa replied to Hodgson's comments on the squad He ineherited from the spaniard, and during that occasion nobody slammed Rafa.
Kenny Dalglish had his 2nd chance reign as LFC manager and he really screwed up! He has left us everybody down by spending a fortune to bring in average players. Further to that, he left players as Thomas Ince to go, a player who is performing brilliant at Blackpool. Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson, and Kenny Dalglish should be mainly accused/blamed for the LFC's decline since 2009. Brendan Rodgers inherited from his predecessors a real chaos! So, these managers do not have the least right to be judging anyone else! They better leave our talented manager and our honest owners alone to try to clear up the mess and get us back to the right track as now after only 3 games we just have 1 point and they really need to completely focus on making the right decisions and moves! Respect Rafa Benitez and Kenny Dalglish this team that offered to you more than you gave!
ReplyDeleteOf course not. Many fans were too busy worshipping at Benitez's altar to criticise him.
ReplyDeleteyou had a pop or two at kenny last season, now its are turn the people who wanted kenny to do well will judge brendan
ReplyDeleteKenny is a 'PLONKER'
ReplyDeleteSaying that This Club has offered to KD more than He gave, it's completely a joke...
ReplyDeleteKenny's medal haul was second to none, but when as manager, that medal haul was mainly due to Paisley!
ReplyDeleteKenny accepted severance.
ReplyDeleteSuper Brendon was going to send him out on loan a month ago - idiot, got rid of Silva and Eccleston Silva scored two world class unstoppanle goals in his last two games, they will be like Ince Blacklpool want ove £5 million now.
ReplyDeletewasn't comolli setting the price's he was appointed by FSG, and kenny got us playing good football within 3 games, and spending 20m getting rodgers was a gamble rodgers said in a recent interview death by football will take 5 years we could have got john bishop to take the piss for less
ReplyDeletesdffv
ReplyDeleteBefore we get carried away with the Rodgers passing game, I suggest we are very predictable, our hearts are in our mouths waiting for the pass to go astray (as already seen). anyone including all on this site and the chap who runs it must in all honesty know that our problem was lack of goals last season, so our genious Manager gets rid of all but one of the players who did score and repaces them with Borini who is our new Maxi, Carroll, Kuyt and Bellamy plus eccleston all in one - yes Borini, some genious, this is the truth of it, first priority was several strikers no need to pay the earth look at Everton.
ReplyDeleteI think Kenny was just stating some facts... Rodgers could only take credit for Sterling if he imroves and develops toa better player... I guess that would happen ut I think what h is today is due o previous manages
ReplyDeletehe had to because Sterling was thinking about leaving the club, and tottenham was sniffing around him,
ReplyDeleteutterly untrue. there are NO facts which assert your statement. Paisley was an utter genius but what happened 86 to 90 was down to KD. to asert otherwise is a complete lie.
ReplyDeleteIf you disagree provide the evidence
As long as he also takes credit for Stewart Downing. Let's face it, Sterling was looking to leave last season due to a lack of 1st team consideration. Tom Once actually left. Do we really think Kenny would have considered dropping Downing for Sterling? If Kenny knew he was so good why did he refuse to even give the lad 10 minutes at the end of a nothing Premier League season? Instead of trying to claim credit for a club nurtured youngster maybe Kenny couldn't explain the utter ineffectiveness of his big money signings such as Henderson, Downing, Adam and Carroll? Yeah, I thought not.
ReplyDeleteSo what you're saying is Dalglish is beyond criticism, and anyone who has legitimate points to make about his football management (in a non-personal manner) should just keep quiet. Right, I get it.
ReplyDeleteHe's not your Dad. Get over it already.
Kenny will always be held in legendary regard but his blind faith in Carroll, downing and Henderson was painful when we had maxi and kuyt benched mostly. Ironically maxi and kuyt were more productive in goals and assists, but they were bit part players. A manager should see when players aren't performing, but he seemed too stubborn to alter his line up. The fans knew it. I feel he is chipping away at Rodgers with every article he rights. Just admit it was wrong and move on.
ReplyDeletedont you read the replies of oeople of your ilk
ReplyDeleteYou put things in the right frame. I don't know what he was thinking when he decided to spend all those money and bring in all those average players instead of giving the opportunity to those talented youngsters! Oh! We all forgot! He gave to one! Jay Spearing! WOW! What a talent!
ReplyDeleteOh for goodness sake. Sterling was even younger than he is now. and Ince was in the reserves and NOT setting the world alight. Borello was the key decision maker. I assume you will blame KD for the craap summer we have just had
ReplyDeleteGawd that's a first. can we have more of that
ReplyDeleteRobinson, Flanagan and shelvey as well as sterling appeared under KD. Do you actually watch LFC
ReplyDeleteThat's not a first. I delete/modify all posts that contain personal insults of players/managers/other posters. Dozens of such posts don't even go live due to the word filter.
ReplyDeleteNO KD is not beyond criticism. No man is!
ReplyDeleteBut downright lies and extreme negativity about KD should not be acceptable for any LFC supporter unless they are mancs in disguise
True, Rafa has the merit for me. He brought him to LFC
ReplyDeleteJK you are obviously a serious and committed supporter. Certainly your blogs are well drafted. I just struggle to understand why you are remorselessly negative about Dalglish. The guy was not perfect but remember the state the Club was in. Hodgson who was and remains a media favourite had done immense damage compounding that caused by Hicks, gillet, Moores and Parry.
ReplyDeleteKD came back and restored the morale of the players and the fans.
Why dont you ever give KD some credit?
why always negative?
People come on here and state that it was actually Fagan that signed Barnes, beardsley & co. They are never challenged or corrected.
Now Bob Paisley is responsible for the success of 86-90.
I believe he is the greatest manager of all time and I give way to no man in my respect and admiration for what Paisley achieved but it is simply untrue to say that what happened betwixt 86 and 90 was other than very much down to KD.
Last year the owners sanctioned the sums paid out. They banked the sums for Torres, Merilles and Babel. I assume that they were happy about what they received. I personally think Henderson will come through. the loan of Carol was stupiid but I assume the owners took that decision. Dowing has been a disappointment but so was Jack Witham when Shankly signed him
Agree with JK 100%. Kenny Dalglish is a bitter fool. He was a great player but as a manager he has almost ruined the club... Henderson, Downing, Adam and Carrol??? That is the reason we finished 8th, buying mediocre players for large amounts of cash turned us into a mediocre team! Brendan Rodgers is the saviour of this great club, and thanks to that fool KD, he has an even harder job. Forget the "famous history" for a minute and think about the future... If Dalglish was true, he'd back the manager, back the club and shut his mouth after all hes done. Raheem Sterling is a great talent, credit should go to him and the coaching staff around him... No-one else!
ReplyDeleteIn Rodgers we trust! YNWA!
least rodgers had the balls to play him, how true, if your good enough your old enough.
ReplyDeletehow raffa still needs to be involved at liverpool if it were possible
Liverpool's problem is that when they got rid of Hicks and Gillette they should have stuck with Rafa Benitez. It doesn't matter what Jamie Kanwar says or anyone else for that matter. . . Benitez put Liverpool back on the European map and made Liverpool respected in Europe again, yes we went backwards for a couple of season but look what was going on behind the scenes with H&G! If we had stuck with Benitez and FSG in charge we would be in the Champions League now and be closer to the elusive Premiership. Unfortunately, that idiot Purslow appointed "the retard" and I don't care how many languages he speaks and if he looks good in the England job but Hodgson is a definite "RETARD" with capital letters. I was appalled when he was appointed and glad when he was dismissed. King Kenny was desperately unlucky in his tenure at Liverpool, granted the Suarez incident was a PR disaster but just look at the pathetic dealings of the Terry and Ferdinand case by a court of law.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see how the FA deal with it, it has to be at least what Suarez got, if they don't treat him the same way, then it will prove they are racists themselves. I, like most Liverpool supporters have taken to Brendan Rodgers, he seems open, honest, intelligent and a possible GREAT manager, he certainly plays the sort of football LFC fans want to see, as opposed to the "retards" brand of kick and rush and defend football, however, it is very early days and we could still be in the relegation area if he doesn't get things right!
the first person to mention the real reason KD gave him some game time....kudos to you.
ReplyDelete1 season is nothing and henry called kenny a stopgap real classy is JW, if the cup run and win were not going to save king kenny why go to them ? JW Henry = snake, IMO
ReplyDeletekenny needs to look at LFC in general cause it dosent matter who take credit as long as they're playing well!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRidiculous. Ince had a great loan spell at MK Dons and Kenny ignored him. He opted for £20m Downing.
ReplyDeleteAnd are you really saying that Rodolfo Borrell had the final say on transfers during Kenny's time? Because if Kenny had no idea of the abilities of his youth team players then how could he now claim any credit for Sterling? He obviously wouldn't have known him right? And I do blame Kenny for the crap summer because if last summer went as it was supposed to we wouldn't have spent so much time and money trying to replace his flops. If you spend nearly £80m on forwards in one year you shouldn't be desperate for three more the next.
this article is rubbish, as are most on this site. Every article you write is simply you twisting something to sound controversial.
ReplyDeleteShock horror. Another ex player criticising the current manager. Par for the course.
ReplyDeleteIn fact if you add Henderson who was bought as an attacking midfielder, that's over £90M worth of attacking talent bought to have a positive effect in the last third of the pitch. Every single one of them except Suarez have needed to be or have sought to be replaced this summer. With the exception of Suarez (a clear Commolli signing), that arraying of attacking talent brought us less than 10 goals in total last year. So yeah, as much as it may be sacrilege to say it, Dalglish f**ked up. To be throwing concealed barbs at the guy charged with sorting it all out is a bit cheeky at best.
ReplyDeleteSo essentially what you're saying is his medal haul means he can't be bitter? Like his medals make him immune to the human emotion that is bitterness? Get a grip. Kenny can be wrong sometimes.
ReplyDeletethis article is rubbish, as are most on this site. Every article you write is simply you twisting something to sound controversial.
ReplyDeleteNo because he was so good
ReplyDeleteWhat did rogers win as a manager.?
ReplyDeletedon't forget the penalty in the chelsea game that he insisted on downing to take.... i wonder why he did that????
ReplyDeleteYes you're right , just listen to the Steve nicol interview
ReplyDeleteWhen I first read all the rave notices about Sterling from fans on these sites I looked at the video clips available and I saw a young player, good on the ball but usually with head down and no end product. He seems to have improved this season in his first few outings so we hope that continues and he develops into a team player. As said previously no one has the right to lay claim to his skill other than he himself and his personal coaches. Certainly not Brendan Rodgers in such a short space of time!
ReplyDeleteAs for Rodgers playing him - well he had no other options having got rid of his competitors.
Now that he is in the mire I hope he continues with a youth policy and plays Robinson and Flanagan as full backs to release Johnson and Enrique to push further forward.
Were did he claim credit for sterling.?
ReplyDeleteBR will be responsible for ruining sterling, he shouldn't be playing the time he is, it's clear to most people that he fades in the second half but that's ni surprise as he's so young.
ReplyDeleteKanwar will u still back Rodgers when sterling is burnt out?
Dont think he's there to sort it out the owners made a fool of him last week.
ReplyDeleteBurnt out? Not going to.happen.

saviour of the club worst start in fifty years a squad that he admits is small and two strikers when everyone knew we needed more.
ReplyDeletei'll tell ye what Jamie you must either be a manc or a doom n gloom merchant, i cant remember the last positive post u put on here get behnd the club or fuck of back to the channel islands yer tit!!
ReplyDeleteRogers needs al the praise he can get at the moment, but self praise ie he has improved Sterling, is no praise at all. Having watched Sterling last season, his play hasn't changed. He was checking back and winning the ball back, as well as beating defenders for pace and skill.
ReplyDeleteDalglish pointed out what was clear to most supporters -Sterling is merely getting stronger as he gets older.
I'm sure Rogers doesn't mean to denigrate past managers by his comments, but that is sometimes how it sounds when he says he has improved a player that KD was careful to use sparingly.
Being aware of the the injury problems that care tailed Owens career - another 17 year old player who insisted on playing when a manager tried to use him sparingly (Roy Evans) Brendan Rogers may not be doing Sterling any favours - time will tell.
Actually, I think many fans were too busy picking themselves up from the ground after fainting when Hodgson bought Konchesky and Poulsen. Rafa was a great judge of a player, and he should have been offered Commolli's job.
ReplyDeleteKenny made his mistakes and he may be bitter, but it doesn't make him wrong. Notice at no point did he try to take credit for Stirlings development himself.
ReplyDeletePeople should remember that BR himself that Stirling wasn't ready and may need to go on loan even though he'd worked with him at the club, then after a couple of friendlys he's now a world beater.
Brendon can take the credit if he turns a promising youngster into a world class player and not just another Walcott.
Maybe had KD given Sterling a few starts ahead of the useless Downing last season,he'd still be in a job???
ReplyDeleteI:E, AQUALANI
ReplyDeleteMORIENTES
ReplyDeleteJOSEMI
ReplyDeleteExcellent point.
ReplyDeleteKD spoke the truth and Brenden has tried to take some of the credit. I remember him talking about how much Raheem has improved in the last few months. Indirectly taking the credit for Raheem just as KD has indirectly put the record straight. I think the part about Brenden not taking any credit whatsoever in the article is clearly wrong.
ReplyDeleteBABEL
ReplyDeleteto true, i think shelvey looks class on the ball and is very positive going forward which we have lacked even from gerrard. carroll is a young player who i think deserved to be part of liverpools future. he will end up at another big club again.
ReplyDeletecoates i think also should be starting, he has all the assits to be a top classy centre back.
kenny first took over and played some of these young talents and liverpool looked better for it most the time, then its like kenny lost faith to quick in them. i think fans would rather see these players given a propper chance, like spearing did, but sadly doesnt offer enough. good sub though and maybe could have got a bit better, but bit predictable.
sterling is a breath of fresh air, not really had an exciting player down the flank since steve mcmanaman
So some people expected Kenny to throw a 16 year old Sterling straight into the first team last season?!! Dear me!'

can you morons please look at the last 3 posts from jamie 'the manc moron' and realise what is game is, every post is negative towards Liverpool.
ReplyDeletefades u say hm then what would u say about downing and co... fade from the start of the whistle... instead of criticizing the kid get on his back support the kid
ReplyDeleteI think Dalglish has every right to be bitter, he should still be at the helm now.
ReplyDeleteBut he should aim at FSG and not Rodgers....!!!
I don't see BR talk much about Borini. He does take lots of credit for himself, and does take indirect shots at KD. KD is just standing up for himself and others. imo.
ReplyDeletekenny or commoli would not have signed downing but he couldnt get ashley young or adam johnson for 16m but brendan overlooked johnson for 10m but kenny after a amazing 4/5 mths was told told buy young brits and with andy carroll we needed a winger and downing was signing and knowone moaned but we played good football just needed a rush or fowler and diame on a free was on the brink before they draged kenny over to sack him they have looked daft ever since
ReplyDeletewe will go knowhere under FSG city and chelsea bought there top4 ticket and man utd have done it with cash and keeping faith even in whiskey nose a prem. winner and arsenal with wenger also a prem. winner so 2 choices for FSG cash or kenny back and dont get a director ov football transfers to get raped in the northeast
ReplyDeleteUnfortuately KK reputation took a massive hit because of the fees that were paid for mediocre talent. I doubt the fees are his responsibility and had these players been bought for their true worth he would have been forgiven. The only reason he was sacked was because FSG lost trust in him to spend the money after a wasteful recycling of 100 million. In essence class players were churned out for average players. Comolli has to take his fair share of the blame and so much FSG who hired him.
ReplyDeleteThe football style is a bit of a charade as we played very good football under kenny most of the time. The real issue is that under the guise of a "re-building programme" FSG will have time to get away with mediocre performances and without spending much.
The club i expect will be profitable and FSG will milk the money from marketing deals but i dont expect much better than a top 10 in the league.
With regards to Sterling I havent really heard Rodgers take credit for him but he has hinted at past managers mistakes and thus KK will feel aggreived. The fact he is another one of Rafa's signings should tell FSG that Benitez has a big role to play in at the very least bringing players into the club were FSG serious about challenging for honours. My suspicions are they expect Rodgers to be a poor man's wenger and do things on the cheap. Whilst Chelsea and City have pretty much booked the top 2 FSG have already said that they are looking for improvement and not necessarily a top 4 position. Which is bizarre considering only a few months ago they sacked KK and Clarke for not getting the top 4 !
U mean his medal at Blackburn, Newcastle and Celtic was due to Paisley too?
ReplyDeleteAdd Brendan Rodgers to that list in 6 months time
ReplyDeleteWhat a brass neck this man has, not only did he con LFC out of 6m.
ReplyDeleteHe definitely only begged for the managers job just to bolster his
pension. To indirectly imply BR is jumping on the bandwagon is
a slanderous statement. Dalglish`s 2nd coming will definitely
go down as the most wasteful in the history of LFC . The little
bit of success he had was probably down to Ste. Clarke . I don`t
think any reserve played a full game under him. Dalglish plz
just shut up, and just carry with what your best suited for
ie knocking that little white ball about.
I don't think we can conclude Kenny is bitter by reading between the lines. I don't think he is. I thought he was trying to put things into perspective. And to be fair to Brendan, I don't recall him claiming credit for Raheem. At the end of it, does it really matter. What matters now is Raheem doing well on the pitch, Liverpool putting the ball in the net and winning!
ReplyDeleteCredit should be given to the Liverpool football club for his development.
ReplyDeleteEveryone involved in the last 4 or 5 years he has been here. No single person should be credited but the Club alone. Which is more important than any one else. It is always a pleasure to see the youth players flourish into the first team.
Dalglish did not give Sterling much of a run Rodgers deserves credit for showing faith in him weather he has improved him yes the experience will make him a better player.
ReplyDeleteKenny needs to stand behind Liverpool its the least he could do after the damage he caused.
jamie - you delete ALL post you don't agree with
ReplyDeleteAgree!
ReplyDeleteWhat about last season's worst home record ,and worst league finish in years? And a 100 million to go with it! And your whinging after three games. Take a deep breath and relax.
ReplyDeleteRafa needs to play him more this season.
ReplyDeletecome on Kanwar, why are you singling out KD? What KD said as far as the people responsible for Sterling's development is spot on, not Rodgers. Rodgers just happen to come in and in desperation because of the lack of players, he 'tried' Sterling and honestly, he aint got anyone better than Sterling for that position.
ReplyDeleteI think Kanwar you got a KD agenda there. Honestly nothing wrong with what KD said....you are getting too sensitive over Rodgers.
You are just one writer with your comments and views but I see you are driving up an agenda against KD and siding with BR.
Judgement on BR is suspended for now as its only 3 games played. But lets see how he fares by October end and then, December. If LFC is still below the top 10 , then it will be fair to judge BR on his quality (or lack of it) and ability (or lack of it) to really drive LFC back into the top 6. let alone the top 4.
During Dalglish's second tenure, he was wrong most of the time.
ReplyDeleteHodgson, ah well. May I remind a few people how that went. When Liverpool were searching a new manager after Rafa was sacked, the previous owners asked KD who the best option was. He said "me". They said "no, but who's the best option apart from you". KD then recommended Roy Hodgson. So, when people slate RH they should remembers who's idea his appointment was.
ReplyDeleteRight, we broke all sorts of negative records last season. Rodgers has to work, more or less, with the same players. And you expect him to turn it round immediately. KD had us on relegation course, as sad as it is. Why some people wanted him to be given more time to complete this is hard to fathom for me.
ReplyDeleteWell, from what I've seen Raheem has indeed vastly improved in those last few months. Getting a few starts surely helps him develop further and he seems to buy into what the manager tells him.
ReplyDeleteDon't know whether or not Jaimie has an agenda, but, to be brutally honest with you, I think it is a very, very good idea to back, or side with, the actual manager and support the team instead of dwelling on the past and wanting some former manager back. The latter won't help one bit.
ReplyDeleteYet another lie. Why do you people hate KD so much you resort to lies.
ReplyDeleteKD stood down when Purslow was determined to pursue the Hodgson option.
The opposite of what you claim.
APOLIGISE
Rodgers may have praised Sterling's development but he never claimed any personal credit for it
ReplyDeleteI don't understand that sentence at all
ReplyDeleteTrue and he didn't back Andy Carroll too much either. Think Kenny should give it up , is the few bob the Mirror is paying him worth it
ReplyDeleteDalglish should shut the F**K UP and so should his cronies, he spent on rubbish and frankly is so out of touch it's scary.
ReplyDeleteNever won any Medals at Newcastle (Sacked) Celtic (Sacked) get your facts right
ReplyDeleteSome of the very fans calling for Dalglish's appointment have the temerity to even comment now....LOL!
ReplyDeleteLook, it's simple the expectation that Dalglish set FSG when he was appointed was a TOP 4 finish and he didn't even nearly deliver that, so he was sacked.
Additionally, regardless of the costs as Dalglish himself stated these players were his choice in Downing,Henderson,Adams,Carroll.
May I remind some of you that Dalglish was brought back to Liverpool by Rafa to look at the Academy.
Dalglish would have had first hand knowledge on these young players so would have known who was good or bad.
None of you look at Dalglish's record of bring in YOUTH PLAYERS.
Well I did, he's NEVER DONE THAT Dalglish BUYS TEAMS AND PLAYERS he doesn't bring through YOUTH.
He never did that at Liverpool the first time, Blackburn,Newcastle or Celtic.
He buys players he doesn't nuture youth so again he's credibility is ZERO.
nasty
ReplyDeleteso what are you saying happened between 86 and 90?
ReplyDeleteI wonder why Jamie Rednapand Robbie Fowler take a different view. But of course you know more than they
ReplyDeletei agree that KD is history as is Rafa. We need to support Rodgers but if there is continuing ignorant bile being spouted out then I for one wont be shut up.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to move on if others will too including JK
Club legend should 'shut the F**k Up'.....??
ReplyDelete1) Difficult to do in a newspaper column.
2) Can't say it or I will be banned. Show some respect r5ole.
some people on this site would blame kd for anything some of the comments about a lfc legend[and the word legend truely applyes to this man]are disgusting kd has given his all to liverpool i still remember his face post hillsbrough the man was on the verge of a breakdown but he carried on untill the pressure finally got to much ask the familys of the bereaved about kd and they will tell you how much he did for this club king kenny ynwa
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean the guy with the roman nomenclature
ReplyDeleteI read KD's column in the Express and it seems like he might be having more of a dig at the national set-up than BR. The gist of his articles focuses on his preference of Club over Country for developing players.
ReplyDeletekenny made mistakes, they all do but it was rafa who got most of the young players in, not brendan... brendan has only been here a few months one big mistake allready...carroll gone before replacement in...ok blame owners but he,s the manager he should of got one in first before letting him go. secondly martinez made swansea he just took over, i for one like many do not beileve the owners that they did not want martinez.. martinex said no to not having full control... so did we were told brendan.. no director of football. yet what happend on transfer deadlind day? we all know.. rodgers wants the ex swansea keeper ? hes over the hill he cannot get a place were he is now...11 mil for borni? come on wake up... he might be ok in time, he,s young but a 5 mil player at best..rodgers was going to loan sterling out....at first is it that sterling wanted to go? that he plays him now..even thoe the lad has done well.. sorry untill brendon proves himself i will like i said when he was given job...have my doubts..so far only one game worth watching man city game...he talks the talk...brendon.. lets see him walk the walk...as for kenny...respect...the man because brendon is not in his league...
ReplyDeleteif brendan has not moved the team on in 3 years, then people can moan.......give him time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei think most people agree with you. This is not about BR. As LFC fans we are desperate for him to be successful. It is a sadness that LFC fans are having this family fued. LETS move on and stop stories criticising our giants
ReplyDeletetotally agree with your post
ReplyDeleteWell done. At the end of the day , we're part of the same family and wish nothing but success for LFC. Let's rally around Brendon and the team ,and continue to give the famous Liverpool support.
ReplyDeleteAll these and he got us to the Number one position in Europe. Imagine what could have been achieved if he had not had to fight battles all the way with our previous owners. Nice one... Plank.
ReplyDeleteLook lets be honest with ourselves, Kenny brought Sterling into the first team squad, but if Kenny wouldn`t have been so stubborn, with his selections ie useless Downing, not playing Henderson in his best position, and not using certain players like Andy carroll, Bellamy and Maxi more often, and dont forget Miereles, was shunned on quite a few occasions, which ultimately led to his departure. So all in all Kenny Imo was behind the times with todays game, he made to many mistakes, whether we like it or not. Kenny will always be close too my heart, as a player one of the best i have ever seen, but lets face it has a Manager he wasn`t what we all hoped he`d be. Brenden rodgers needs a rethink Imo about Downing ? he just dosen`t cut it has a Lfc player for me, in any capacity. RedManFor44years and counting.
ReplyDeleteAlonso.
ReplyDeleteGarcia.
Reina.
Momo.
Agger.
Bellamy.
Kuyt.
Mascherano.
Lucas.
Torres.
yossi.
Skrtel.
Johnson.
Maxi.
Europe.
net spend.
That is all.
there have been a few insults directed at posters, albeit in the form of "R5ole" , so please keep fairness in mind and modify some of the others posts please.
ReplyDeleteSpearing is a young player with a big heart and tremendous determination. Unfortunately, in the role he was required to play, because of his height, he always seemed to be over stretching. This brought about some bad tackles and the sending off at Fulham (I think). There are others like Kelly and Coates who will step up if we lose Skrtel or Agger but perhaps not ready yet to break that solid (excepting a few lapses) pairing.
ReplyDeleteDon't know enough about BR's other summer signings yet but it's very early to be talking groin! The young German appears to be a snip striker if it's possible to judge from the videos. Like yourself I am very saddened by the treatment meted out to AC. Have always believed in the right to a fair hearing (or seeing in his case). Hope he does well at West Ham
Hey plank just because Aquaman didn't want to play at LFC that has no bearing on his ability to play football, but i guess you don't read the comments properly, and as for Morientes, he was a good striker, probably better than anything that has come out of England in the last 10 years.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Sterling has been called up to the England squad
ReplyDeleteYes, a lie, of course, not. Back then Mr. Kenneth Dalglish himself said so. Why do you accuse Mr. Dalglish to be a liar? This is very disrespectful. Please apologize.
ReplyDeleteIt they couldn't get the player they wanted, why spend more on a player with less ability? To me it seems that they've spent it just for the sake of it.
ReplyDeleteWell, I for one will rest my case concerning former managers as soon as people stop asking for Rafa/Kenny being re-installed as our manager regularly. What do you suggest I tell those folks? The only chance I see is, that I try to show them the downsides of those former managers they seemingly support rather then the club itself.
ReplyDeleteI do not see anybody calling for KD or RB to return. I am not and have never called for their recall. Regrets at their departure do not amount for a demand for their recall.
ReplyDeleteYou obviously have a problem with the English language
Honest owners?
ReplyDeleteKenny seems a bit bitter that he wasnt given enough time at liverpool, which is fair enough but raheem sterling is just the beginning we have Suso, Conner Cody to mention 2 and Samid Yelsin who scored 2 against Engalnd under 19s....
ReplyDeleteNo ones jumping on any band wagon there just highlighting credit where credit is due..... Roger however still needs to prove himself as 2 losses and a draw arent the liverpool way not even if you paint the nets red...whats that all about?
Yes. Yes I do.
ReplyDeleteIn my defence, it was more an observation than an insult. Sorry, all the same. The whole point of this JK 'article' was to start another "Kenny was shit", "No he wasn't", "Yes he was" free-for-all, which serves no purpose.
ReplyDeleteKD dragged us out of the mire, and made us feel good about our club again. Yes, it went pear-shaped, but that wasn't all Dalglish's fault : underperforming players, thicker goalposts than ususal (!!), a media vendetta etc.
I'm just getting sick of the way people conveniently forget how much he has done for the club and the people of Liverpool, and admit how they felt the morning of his first game at OT in the Cup.
Because I was excited, proud, and happier than I had felt about this club in a long long time.
Like I said the other day, the only improvement is that we are seen as more 'media-friendly' now.
ReplyDeleteNot much of an improvement in my eyes.
Josemi finally got Finnan playing.
ReplyDeleteHow much did that lot cost, again?
ReplyDeleteAt least he tried to bolster the sqaud a bit, unlike the present incumbent who had 3 months and got rid of all our goalscorers and replaced them with midfielders. Then moaned it wasn't his fault.
A snippet from the English Premier Leaue Index, in case anyone is interested:
ReplyDeleteIt’s worth stating that just because a player has more assists than CCC does not mean every gilt-edged chance he created was converted into a goal. There’s a good possibility some of those were missed (for example: in Stewart Downing’s case all 11 that he created were missed!). The point here is to simply get an indication of the high quality chances that these individuals have created and see how it stacks up against other numbers.
Because if he had been given a bit more time he had Jarvis and Walcott in the pipeline, and maybe Gaston Ramirez too.
ReplyDeleteBut the new bloke thinks we need more midfielders.
kenny shut your mouth you hav nothing to talk
ReplyDeleteI think my English is quite good given that I am not a native speaker. But maybe your understanding of the language is different than mine. I said "people" and "folks", which does not mean "you". You probably know better and will now explain to me that those three words can be used as synonyms. Go on.
ReplyDeleteYou may visit the comments section of the Liverpool Echo if you don't see anybody calling for KD or RB to return. You'll find them there, and elsewhere, aplenty.
BTW, do you speak any language but English? Guess that someone who's criticising a foreigner's English must be a linguist and fluent in, say, ten foreign languages.
first i apologise I was intending to be sarcastic nothing more
ReplyDeleteSecond the debate that has been happening is on this blog and as I said I see no calls for KD or RB to be re-instated. I do not think that the dogs' abuse that former managers and players who are held in great affection is necessary and certainly detracts from the future issues and problems facing our beloved LFC
Kenny is totally of, and sounds bitter!
ReplyDeleteNot flattering for a legend :(
kenny does sound a little bitter. But he shouldn`t take to heart the fact
ReplyDeleteevery signing except suarez, has been a failure, so far. It must gripe at him that everyone shares this opinion.
Rodgers is just trying to give everyone a lift by doing stuff, like getting red nets. I agree results are what counts though. That aside, the whole club has been a laughing stock since moores sold up. ALL owners since haven`t a clue about how a Football club works(Proper football not that american rubbish). And it has been us fans suffering.
ReplyDeleteDidnt the young lads say how good it was that the new manager actually spoke to them, im sure its in the video diary or something from around the start of BRs campaign
ReplyDeletehopefully its gonna go well in Jan are we getting any free signings or what?
ReplyDeletelol I know that i certainly met the pavement when i heard that Woy got the job.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I didn't figure out the sarcasm at all. Apology accepted, of course! Yes, you are right. I may be a bit touchy concerning calls for former managers, as it seems to be a mayor topic on many message boards all over the place. You are, too, right concerning the way some people, maybe even me, react towards former managers. If all of us could rest their cases concerning the past, not only the two of us, we'd do ourselves and our club a big favour. Onwards and upwards.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, maybe not, we'll never know. In case we bought both, Jarvis and Walcott, Sterling would still rot in the reserves. Ever considered that. The lad has been called up for the England squad today (which I personally find a bit premature to be honest).
ReplyDeleteI think some other people, too, thought that our midfield containing the likes of Spearing, Adam and Henderson in central positions weren't the right people to move us further up the table be it long or short term. Nothing wrong with "the new bloke" bringing in some guys who actually can pass a ball over the distance of five yards.
What did Shankly win before he's joined us? The insistence of some people that our manager must have won this and that is doing my head in. We don't appoint great managers, we make them.
ReplyDeletedesperation?? the kid is class don't u forget that sterling has booted out downing and in all honesty in the few matches sterling has played he has looked tons better than downing... at times i forget whose 17 and whose 28
ReplyDeleteI think that not even Kenny would have been pig-headed enough to keep Sterling in the reserves for too long. Cream tends to rise eventually.
ReplyDeleteLike I've said a few times on this site, Allen is a fantastic little player and a great addition to the team. I remain unconvinced, however, that wholesale changes were needed to the team. The priority HAD to be a goalscorer. And this wasn't addressed.
Wonder if it's that bollocking he received from the gaffer (as featured in the "Being Liverpool" trailers) that has ignited his career?
ReplyDeleteTo me it, seems that Kenny only played him, because he threatened to demand a transfer if he wasn't given any playing time. By the time Kenny would have accepted that Sterling would give more to the team than Downing without that happening, the boy may well have handed in a transfer request.
ReplyDeleteFair enough.
ReplyDeleteBut then why should a club like ours bow down to some kid DEMANDING playing time??
I think that many of you dont realise what is happening in the first place.
ReplyDeleteEverything in liverpool fc is going wrong for a few years now, but appointing KD as a manager was never wrong. The wrong thing was fireing him. He gave every fan of LFC a feeling of proudnes, a moment of bright light,...... We won a trophy- first in many years and who cares if it was the mickey mouse trophy! KD should be given another year, thats a fact. Yes he and Commolli did spent a lot of money on players, that they dont deserve their price tag, but this is a transfer market and all british players costs a fortune, even if they are not the best players in the world. As for BR I think that he wont live another season with LFC if a couple of miracels dont happen. LFC doesnt have enough players and the guilty one is BR. You dont send your striker out on loan before you dont get another one in. And for BR tiki taka, its all good and well, but your players need to score goals if you want to win games. Playing good football on the eye isnt enough. And for scoring goals you need a striker (the one that will not miss 9 out of 10 balls). So in my honest opinion i think that before things gonna get better, they will surely get worse, a hell lot worse. I pray that this isnt all true, but everything looks that way.
well said lad
ReplyDeleteGood shout...true reds should not involve themselves in this sort of non sence.JK has a dubious record of comments.Debate is good, fair constructive criticism fine but this serves no purpose whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteGreat point about Tom Ince...sold for £250,000, must be worth £5m now and rising. Buy dear sell cheap....not a good business model!
ReplyDeletePlayer power, unfortunately. I don't think we can afford to lose our most promising youngsters. Don't know if he'll ever make it to the very top, but losing Paul Ince may come back bite us. He's doing extremely well at Blackpool.
ReplyDeleteThis whole discussion on the comparitive merits of the current manager and past managers is empty and futile. It's rather similiar to the race issue. Our likeability of our managers is akin to the acceptability of individuals in general. Whether a person is white, black, yellow or brown etc generally makes little difference until he or she does or says something we find unacceptable. If we like a person we do not notice the colour of their skin. - The same goes for managers; if we develop a fellow feeling with him even the most outlandish decisions and signings will do little to break the bond supporters have with them. The foregoing posts demonstrate that absolutely.
ReplyDeleteShankly, Paisley, Dalglish, Houllier and Benitez belong to a special club who on the whole had the majority of Reds supporters behind them irrespective of the mistakes they made at some time during their occupancy. (Though Paisley gives me difficulty to complain of any)
Reds supporters are famous for their loyalty to players and managers alike so I am hoping we will unite and allow the present incumbent the opportunity to prove that he can be mentioned alongside his illustrious forebears. Like you I have my favourites but it seems wrong identifying them on a site which proclaims to be anti Benitez. - I am certainly not in that category!
I truly don't know why I come here. Even If I agree with the sentiment of an article, after reading the comments I always end up feeling depressed...
ReplyDelete3 championships and 2 FA cups is KD's record as a manager. Were you not aware of that historical record
ReplyDelete
