FT: Norwich 2-5 LFC. BR hails 'excellent' Suso, plus VIDEO of all 5 goals

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has rewarded Andre Wisdom and Suso for their recent good form with starting places for today's must-win Premier Leage with Norwich City.

Two goal hero Nuri Sahin also keeps his place, and Daniel Agger returns to the team after making something of a miracle recovery from the injury sustained against Manchester United last week.

FULL LINE UP:

Reina, Wisdom, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Allen, Gerrard, Sahin, Sterling, Suarez, Suso.

SUBS

Jones, Carragher, Henderson, Downing, Assaidi, Coates, Borini.

Liverpool legend Gary Gillespie was delighted with the line-up. He told LFC TV:

"It's great. It sends out a message to all the young players that if you do perform, you'll get a chance. I've been really surprised by Wisdom's confidence on the ball, and that'a great attribute to have.

"It'll be interesting to see where Suso plays; positional-wise, I think he's better central rather than wide"

FULL TIME: Norwich 2-5 LFC

After the game, Rodgers was full of praise for his team's performance, but made it clear that improvements still needed to be made:

"It was fantastic. Norwich worked very hard, but the plaudits are with the players. They scored 5 goals, and could've had one or two more.

"Our control and domination of the game was outstanding. Our work rate and intensity were great right until the end.

"Suarez scored some wonderful goals, and he should've have a penalty too, but the team is the star.

"Suso was excellent on his first premier league start, both technically and tactically, and Andre [Wisdom] looked like he'd been playing in that position for years.

"We still have a lot of improvements to make; we're disappointed with the two goals conceded, but overall, we were outstanding".

  4. Yes :-) Surprised to see Agger back so soon. Hope it doesn't backfire and he picks up another injury...

This is how I would line them up.
I pray Johnson defends well in this game!

  6. We all know how good Assaidi is.He should be in the starting line up.to cause a lot of problems like what he did against W/B

  7. I hope Stevie G will show some discipline to drop back when Nuri goes forward.

  12. Love this new brand of football. Exciting and entertaining. Keep up the good work Brendan. Only problem we appear to have is referee's ! JUST BEEN DENIED ANOTHER PENALTY !!!

  13. Respect? My arse! How come people are supposed to respect referees when they don't do their job, which is getting the simplest of decisions right.

  14. Excellent line up the guys are playing quite well. The Norwich fans really need to learn some new songs.

  16. Got to say this is the first time since 2008/9, when I'm looking at that line up and you can sense the buzz. Mixture of world class experience, with exceptional youth flair who are not fazed. Reminds me of when the utd babies were coming through back in the early 90's. Eventhough the league does not look good but you could just sense it was a matter of time. Was at the game last sunday and we should have destroyed Man Utd. The most proimising part is we have been playing like this since the beginning of the season, just need time to settle. Great first half and probably close if not our best side. Lets keeping going in the 2nd half.

  17. Much as I am delighted to hear that the gaffer is considering showing Downing the door (and hopefully Henderson + Enrique too), i would warn Rodgers not to repeat he debacle that surrounded the departure of Andy Caroll...you dont have to wear ur heart on your sleeve and shout to the media that your player is rubbish...learn a thing or two from Wenger...who made sure he milked the sale of RvP...

  18. Andre Wisdom looks so comfortable in that position it's scary, he a centre back for goodness sack!

JAMIE, BTW this format is better for a number of reason which I can't share on here as it will let the cat out the bag.
Other than to say for security reasons stick with this format.

  21. Mom should be given to both Suarez and Joe Allen IMO...we got a bargain for Allen.. What a guy!! \m/

  22. goals were long due...he scores some exceptional goals but misses the easy ones..again penalty not given..reina,not sure wat's the problem with him..attack is getting better....just need to tighten up..
our bench strength is much much better compared to the one we had against arsenal....

  23. Well done lads. Another typically good game from Allen. Well done Suarez, keep it up. Suso seems to have that maturity to his play that makes him keep up with the rhythm of the game, which is great to see in a young lad.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Suarez you still make me angry at times, so frustrating. Well done lads. Suarez needs to be consistent. Buzzing with suso and sterling. This boys are hungry. Another 4 wins and i might bye into this project. Fact its the kids carrying the team.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If we finish top four at the end, remember this as the week that Liverpool turned it around. oustanding game vs Manu, a gritty win with the kids against WBA and the right line-up to spank a good Norwich City crew.

    ReplyDelete
  26. His goals and assists match anything in the league and it makes you angry,ye musy be a united man.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's what happens when most of your shots are on target, they are bound to go in!

Now let's tighten that defence up because I didn't like it one bit. We have a tendency to leave to many men unmarked. Norwich punished us with one goal (could have been much more) and Man.Utd could have punished us as well had Valencia not always insisted to run until the byline before crossing. On a positive note, Wisdom looks like a real solid defender. Safe to say he was better than Skrtel today. Reina also had an improved match.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh yes! It's a solid 5-2 win for us, 3 points in a game, finally!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Suarez hey Jaimie you still not a fan of the man. I seem to remember your disgust at him at the world cup, I knew something was nagging me and it wasn't my wife. Do you feel the same about Terry Mc 1981 League Cup final.

    ReplyDelete
  30. For godsake give BR some credit for having the balls to play the kids. Did we score 5 goals last season in a game after spending nearly 100m on shite......no i guess not. Brendon has not even had much of a transfer kitty yet so if u cannot get behind the team after a win like today......well then ur one sad person, who must be a united fan in disguise.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like that line up mate looks very versitile

    ReplyDelete
  32. If suarez was half of owen or fowler at finishing hed be top goal scorer every year by far. Fact is till he scores another hat trick ill reserve my comments and the types of chances he misses does not make him world class and too be honest some embarrassing at times
    my opinion.....

    ReplyDelete
  33. constructive critism and im called a utd fan because you draw yr conclusion from one game while I look at all our games so far. No your sad mate not me. Yes he chose the kids buts lets be honest its the plan him and the owners always had after him spending 25 mil on 2 players

    ReplyDelete
  34. Super Suarez . Where are the clowns who wanted Squares benches for Morgan? By the the way. How about a stat on how many times Square has been fouled in the box and no penalty?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sorry I mean Suarez .

    ReplyDelete
  36. Agreed. Maybe JK will post an article slating Suarez for missing the one-on-one in the first half and not scoring in the last 30 minutes of the game.

Since some here value stats over quality, here are some:

-Suarez has 27 goals in 60 games as a red. That is almost one goal every two games, without taking penalties. For a guy who has to go back to his own half to start play and link up with the defense and midfield and create chances, that is a very good return
-Suarez is second in goalscoring in the EPL at this point. Too soon in the season, one might say? Well, he was slated by JK after five games.
-Of Suarez's five goals, four came from shots outside the box. No wonder his conversion rate (a silly stat if there ever was one; no wait, there is also passing accuracy which is just as silly) is low compared to forwards who just tap in or like RVP who simply hangs near the box during the whole game and adds nothing to the build up.
-For those who slate Suarez as selfish, watch the fourth goal. Also, the pass to Gerrard in the first half was pure class.

Considering that Suarez has had to play with very pedestrian players like Adam, Henderson, Carroll and Downing, it is very exciting to wonder what he will be able to do now that LFC is finally putting talent on the field (Suso, Sahin, Sterling). For the first time in a year and a half, defenders have to worry about players other than Suarez.

Two random thoughts: Sahin three goals in two games. How does that compare to Henderson and Allen? It was about time that midfielders contribute offensively.

For all the decent work Raheem has done, he still hasn't scored in the EPL. I can't understand for my life how we exaggerate about the talent of some new players (Raheem, Wisdom (who played OK, but nothing out of the ordinary) and Allen (annointed "maestro" by JK), but slate our far and away best player.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If u have looked at our games so far then u are fully are aware that we have played man utd, man city & arsenal already consider BR has only been in charge for 5 league games and suarez is our top scorer with 5 goals. What do u expect in such a short period while in transition. This is not FIFA 13. You've got to be a young fan who obviously has no patience. Changes take time to implement, especially as we have a limited budget. Considering what Suarez does for the team interms of talent and pure british bulldog type mentality, his goals today proved vital again. Not many players of his talent would be willing to come to lfc right now, so be grateful we have him at our club.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ok rooney you obviously know best. Fact is first win of the season. Fact is the kids are bailing out Liverpool. Fact is we have had our worse start imn how many years. fact is our results last season against the big guns was very good. fact other managers have been to new clubs and have had better results. Fact Suarez with his chances this season should be on at least ten goals. Fact BR stumbled on this team cos there is no other reasonable alternative.

But hey rooney what do I know

    ReplyDelete
  39. You just dont get it. A true fan would. He is the only striker I have ever known who can make something simple look so so yet something hard look so simple. If you knew anything about football you`d find that utterly frustrating or annoying........

    ReplyDelete
  40. The poll was about the style of commentary? Eek. I only voted new style because I thought it referred to BR's style of play!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Good news....the result becomes positive now.But please get rid from using Downing,Henderson and Joe Cole.Release when transfer window will be opened again.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Allen plays a totally different role to Sahin, Shelvey and Gerrard, he's simply never going to score that many goals. Watch him play, see where he spends more of this time during the match. It's never an advanced role and that's his job. He's there to pick up the ball at the back and get it into a good position for the attacking players to create with and he's done that exceptionally from day one. Goals just aren't a priority for him and they never will be. Ask Rodgers how Allen is doing so far, I suspect he'd tell you he's close to perfect, and the proof will be in how many matches he starts. Barring injury I'd bet you big money that Allen starts every single PL league game this season. No player gets that kind of support from the manager if he's not contributing. Rodgers has shown that he's ruthless when it comes to dropping non-performing players but Allen, Gerrard and Suarez are just a few of those players who have been exemplary in his eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Some of your "facts" are just your own opinion. Who have been Liverpool's best players this season so far? I think Allen would be close to top of Rodger's list, probably next to Suarez. Neither of them are "kids". Suso and Sterling have been good but let's get real - they're still adjusting. Only if you judge their performances against a different benchmark can you say they are particularly brilliant. They've been good, that's all. Sahin isn't a kid, he's a full Turkish international and Shelvey has been playing senior football for 3 years now. It's a young side but so what? How is it a problem? Those kids haven't scored the goals, Suarez has, and that is one "fact" you seem to be unable to get your head around. Suarez creates the chances, more than anyone else, he does a large share of the attacking work and for that reason he's entitled to miss. For sure, it can be frustrating to watch him failed to hit the net but if you come away from a match where a player scored a hat trick and all you can say is "he should have done better" then that's your problem, not his.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have to agree to some extent. Rodgers is a little bit too free with his words. It's nice to have some insight, to see that he's being honest and up front with both players and the fans, but I feel that he sometimes says more than he needs to. It was too easy to read into his comments that Enrique and Downing simply haven't been putting in enough hard work and I don't think we need to know that. Just say that, obviously enough since they're not playing, the players will have to show a bit more in order to win their place in the side. No need to go into great detail about how they don't have enough heart or passion in playing the game. Of course if all of this serves to truly motivate the players then maybe he's doing the right thing. I would love to see Downing respond positively and come back later in the season as a much improved player.

    ReplyDelete
  45. You just answered ur own question clever boy.....the kids are proving their worth. Fact - who's given them the chance to perform this year. Fact where were they last year, fact wasted ££££'s on downing, adams henderson and carroll....yes fact. How can u compare the status of our club to smaller ones where new managers have done better....shocking & naive statement. How can u compare a whole season of last to the present. How would u like it if people started comparing u in a new job to someone who's been around alot longer. Fact is when was the last time u went to anfield coz if u were there last sunday, there was huge backing for the team & BR. You must be a deluded KD or RB fan. I will agree with one you on one point, I've been following lfc since the 80's and have also played close to semi pro level without ever being coached or encouraged by my parents....so yes im pretty much right most of the time. Theres only one player whos ever proved me slightly wrong and that is lucas..

  46. Hey Luke Chadwick, you getting ripped by people....if i was you I would use the same door as spearing and dont look back!!!

  47. Finally our first win in EPL! I would like to thank the manager and the players for their work-in-progress. What it raises concern though it is the fact that in each game we are conceding goals. Today we had an opportunity of avoiding conceding goals but unfortunately Norwich scored twice against us today. This win must be the starting point for the continuous rise of the team in EPL. The manager and the players must not rest until they will guide the team back to the top 4 positions. They own it to the history of this club, to themselves, and to the LFC’s fans in all over the world!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Rodgers has a touch of david brent about him. he needs to talk less and stop repeating himself. However, warning the dross that this is their last chance at LFC is exactly what was needed. After the old goat kenny trying to prove that downing is good by playing him non stop, this is the reality check.
im hoping we bring in at least 15m between downing and enrique towards the kitty. Henderson will prove him worth, at least as a back up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Simplicity can be the key rooney and maybe when you look at games that we lose becos he misses two easy chances in it then your opinion may change. Another point is lets all remember who bought these young players and there imput in developing them for first team. I think choosing them is the easiest part.

    ReplyDelete
  50. adfraggs were i come from kids are also measured by age unless of course there mental state to......
Fact if Suarez took 50 percent of his easy chances last season , liverpool would of made top four and maybe kk would still be in a job but hey thats just my opinion.
and for the record I think sterling has had the bigger impact but thats just me...

    ReplyDelete
  51. mmmm maybe u never van persie as much as you should. check his return on goal when he has played on either side of a 4-3-3 formation and his assists. if you knew that you would make such a comment. oh and he created a cunning assist against spurs yesterday btw,

those players you mentioned from Henderson to adams, have you added up how many EASY created chances they created for him last season? mmmm yes they must be crap.

On sahin, mmm he is winning me over gradually lets see after 10 games.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Agree that conceding two goals against a team who may be getting relegated is a concern; we won't be scoring 5 goals a game every game, so our defense must step up. So much focus is on how hendo and downing have been poor, but IMO Skrtl has made very costly mistakes in the back, as has johnson and reina. These guys are need to take a page out of carra's book and be more vocal and organize a strong defense.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Chadwick, you obviously dont get it and if u saw suarez live at a game without a tele, you will appreciate that he standards out above anyone else even without his goals. His ability to go past players and movement & workrate is out of this world. Choosing young players when you have not won a game and are being compared to KD or RB all of the time at a big club like lfc takes BALLS...all past lfc greats including Mark Wright and Didi have given huge credit to BR. KD never had the balls to play sterling from the start and always choose Downing who has scored how many goals in the league since joining!! Yeah exactly...Suarez is frustrating at times but you tell me of a better player out there who would come to us and be the complete player and not just a out and out goalscorer!!
Alan Hansen criticised alex ferguson for playing youngers in the early 90's...funny how things turned out. You will live to regret Suarez and look forward to having the conversation.
    You are walking alone!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. This win goes down to Rodgers in my book. We finally have a manager who knows a good player when he sees one. Hodgson, Dalglish did not have this approach. They continued to play off form players week in week out hoping for the best. Every week, Rodgers has changed his team to perform in a better way, its only a matter of time until results come Liverpool's way. Rodgers saw that Cole wasn't up for it. He has already seen Downings lack of adventurism with the ball, something Sterling has in abundance. He's seen through Henderson's lack of enthusiasm opting for a more tactically aware Suso. You also can have a look at how he has handled Shelvey. He see's strengths in players and actually applies it to his team tactics. Assaidi, Wisdom, Shelvey, Suso, Sterling. He has the knowledge to know that these players can oust more senior players. I see Pacheco challenging Borini for a spot as well since he has been showing promising signs. Future is bright.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I totally agree with your assessment about Skrtel, Reina, and Johnson.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I can't agree less with your assessment.

    ReplyDelete
  57. You clearly don't understand football. You can't compare 2 midfielders one more attacking and given more of a license to get forward and the other covering for a defensive midfielder and expect the latter to score as many.
RAHEEM STERLING has done better than just OK. If you can't see that i don't think you watch LFC matches (just MATCH OF THE DAY).Goals will come from him just be patient.
Your i told you so attitude directed at other people is hysterical.

    ReplyDelete
  58. It's called genius, Patou. He's frustrating and brilliant at the same time. But at least he's ours...

Oh, and what a LOVELY way to shut the yokels up
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I agree with your observation. Allen is a holding midfielder and he is not asked to feed the forwards. Having said that, let's temper our praise of him, especially as to passing accuracy, since he is not there to make incisive passes, but rather to distribute the ball around.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Henderson and Adams created easy chances for Suarez? Now that's a laugh!!

RVP was non-existent in the Liverpool-ManU game. If his team is dominated, he simply doesn't participate in the play because his radius of activity is very limited compared to Suarez. How many goals does RVP score where he participates in the build up from midfield and then finishes? He is just a finisher in the box...albeit a very good one at that.

    ReplyDelete
  61. My point is simple. A lot of you slate Suarez, our far and away best player, but are quick to fawn over British players (Allen a "maestro" because of his lateral passing, for example). I am just pointing out that if Suarez were to go 6 EPL games without scoring, you lot would be ripping him apart. I like, Sterling, but I note that he hasn't scored in the EPL. We are not going to have a good season unless others step up. Sahin is stepping up and so is Gerrard. I'd like to see Raheem, Suso, Borini and others step up too.

I know the difference between the two types of midfielders, thank you. LFC needs a Sahin more than an Allen if it going to succeed. No jab at Allen, who I think is a fine footballer, but you need creative players to win.

    ReplyDelete
  62. "Alot of you slate LUIS SUAREZ" What planet are you on.Who is this lot that you are talking about.........
Whenever I see anything slightly negative towards SUAREZ (which is hardly ever) you get many people sticking up for him.

"If LUIS SUAREZ was to go 6 EPL games without scoring a goal you lot would be ripping him" SUAREZ plays as a striker so why are you again trying to compare players that play in different areas of the field. It's a completely different argument don't you understand that.

Your point on the first message wasn't who we need more ALLEN or SAHIN.Like you've conveniently changed it to now.You were simply comparing them and saying ALLEN doesn't contribute with goals (DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD ROLE).
How many goals a season do you expect a defensive midfielder to score?

What you're finding difficult to understand is when you put kids into the team they need time to settle.STERLING and SUSO have just broke into the team. They're still finding their feet, give them a break goals will come.
I do understand you need to creative players to win professor.

  63. No Van persie is played as an out and out striker in most teams now does not mean he can`t play supporting striker. In fact for many years he was known as Berkamps understudy. Has been known to and play on both wings. His manager tells him to play certain positions don`t mix that with whether he has the ability to do other things or not mate

  64. Cow splat 27 or what ever your name is.................. U R A MUPPET.
If only Fergie had more fans like you then he wouldn't of dominated English football so much. Fergie never had a great crop of youngsters who saved his job did he?????? He never had the balls to play them did he? Them same younsters never dominated the English game for years did they?
Fact 1. Them youngsters were there last season but are only playing now.
Fact 2. Two of the youngsters Rodgers signed.
Fact 3. The top senior players are helping the younsters adapt.
Fact 4. Most of the deadwood is out the door without being replaced
Fact 5. The manager got screwed by the owners on the final day of the transfer window.
Fact 6. The average age of the squad is a better than it's been in years which is all good for the future.
Fact 7. The club as a solid British core.
Fact 8. You are a muppet

  65. BEAST:

You question whether Suarez is slated? Have you read this website? Every third article JK writes includes a dig at Suarez. Stats are selective used to minimize his impact and instances are subjectively assessed to make Suarez look bad. Once posted, a group of usual suspects come in to slate Suarez. This on a supposedly LFC site.
