Bravo, Brendan! You did the right thing trying to shift KD's flops...

Since arriving at Anfield, one particular facet of Brendan Rodgers' agenda has been crystal clear: dump Kenny Dalglish's transfer flops ASAP. With the departures of Andy Carroll and Charlie Adam, that policy is in full swing, but if things had gone differently near the end of the transfer window, three more of Dalglish's signings could've followed those two out the door.

According to The Daily Mail, Rodgers offered Jordan Henderson in part-exchange for Dempsey, and offered Stewart Downing and Jose Enrique for sale to other clubs.

If the story is true, then this is another stinging indictment of Dalglish's wastefulness in the transfer market. If those three players had gone, the only Dalglish buys left at the Liverpool would've been Sebastian Coates and Luis Suarez.

It's heartening to see that Rodgers has no intention of settling for mediocrity, and if Downing, Henderson and Enrique had actually left the club, I - and I'm sure many other fans - would've been extremely happy.

Some would argue that allowing those three to leave would've weakened the squad, but I disagree. Downing and Henderson add absolutely nothing to the team; indeed, Downing has already been replaced on the left by a 17-year old youth player (Sterling) and an untested Eredivise winger (Assaidi), and central midfield is overflowing with options preferable to Henderson.

Enrique is a decent player, but if the club is going to consistently challenge for the Champions League then he's not effective enough to be first choice left-back, and Rodgers clearly feels the same way.

One thing is for sure: those three are on borrowed time at Anfield, and I don't expect them to be at the club in a year's time.

  1. I wonder if Brendan Rodgers himself will still be at the Club in a year's time....

  2. I'll say "bravo" only when the results will match Liverpool's quality and ambition. Just now, with one point after three games as Liverpool sit in relegation zone, it's too early to say "bravo". This is a business based on results.

  3. Couldn't agree more. The Dalglish flops had/have to be eradicated from the club. Two out the door in Adam and Carroll (on loan) and the other two (Downing and Henderson) will probably follow next summer. A gargantuan financial disaster from Dalglish for identifying such mediocrity with little return and Comolli for negotiating such astronomical fees. Both are highly culpable.

So we build again. That blueprint was rightly ripped out and the wage bill trimmed which was apparently top 4 material. Funds will be made available to Rodgers in Jan and next summer in my opinion. As usual it's all about the manager's judgment in the market. We have been let down for 20 years by successive manager's appalling eye for a player. Every managerial appointment is a risk but Rodgers has a clear vision for the future. I hope to enjoy the journey. A lot time and patience needed. Continuity is key now. You simply can't keep chopping and changing managers every year. Long term project this.

  4. Downing to go, but I would keep Henderson and Enrique, we dont have another established LB at the moment, so that would be a silly move, and Henderson is still young, so I think he should be given some time to see if he can adapt to the style, and to see if he shows improvement. If not THEN get rid of him.

Another pop at KD hey Jamie? one of liverpools most successful mgrs.
I don't see any of Rodgers signings taking the premier by storm ...borini, rubbish -well overpriced not half the player of carroll, sahin - side foot charlie, allen - vastly overated and shoved off the ball easily, hangs about in his confort zone, the morrocon winger - never heard of him and we all know about previous morroccon lfc wingers.
Just hope you're still beating the rodgers drums at the end of the season and don't hide behind the 'transitional season' thing.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hopefully he doesn't replace them with more mediocrity, he has already brought one mediocre player in Borini who i don't think has improved our squad at all and don't think he would make the first team of any of the top 8 clubs in the league like he does at Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sahin has had one game; Borini about 4-5. Allen is the league's most accurate passer, but he also has only had 3-4 games.

How many games have Henderson, Downing and Enrique had to prove themselves?

    ReplyDelete
  8. By not having Carroll available, at least from the bench, Liverpool will finish lower in the league, perhaps perilously low.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Completely agree, Steve. I agree with you that money will be made available in January and next summer. First though, the mistakes of the previous 18 months need to be rectified, and that's what's going on right now.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Andy Carroll is injured now, so bullet dodged!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Liverpool finished 8th last season with Carroll available; what difference did he make then? Additionally, he managed to score only 4 league goals last season; that's not much to be missed, is it?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Liverpool has missed the boat. The 100 mil wasted by KD should have been given to Rafa to reinforce his 2008/2009 team!!! Could have added Silva, Aquero and Mata to the squad if Rafa still in the reign with 100 mil to spend.

    ReplyDelete
  13. And if we had sold them? We would of been even more screwed lol... Henderson can't be a flop if he was played RM when he a CM, erinque was good.... At the start of the season then slowly tired out... An downing is just shocking,... Wouldn't of cared if he had been sold...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Agree!. We bought rubbish at inflated prices for more than 20 years. Now, it's finally time to put a stop to it and keep BR for the 3 years of his contract and let him finish clearing out the overpaid rubbish of the past and build a young team around Sterling, Robinson, Shelvey, Flanagan, Morgan, Borini, Suso, Allen, Henderson (because of his young age), Coates, Suarez, Lucas, Kelly, Yesil et al....we tried it that way for 20 years so why not try it this way for 3 years? What we got to lose? Except more millions flushed down the toilet!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Enrique is our best left-back since at least Riise, given that Aurelio was injured most of the time. He has his weaknesses, but until we can either attract a better quality left-back or one with obvious potential to be better, we should keep him. And while Henderson didn't exactly set the world on fire last season, he is still young enough to improve to the required level, even if we've badly overspent on him. As for the rest, well, unfortunately I have to agree with the sentiment of your article.

    ReplyDelete
  16. If we would have sold Enrique we would not of had a Leftback!

    This is rubbish!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree with Myreds. Rafa is the only one who can bring us back to glory with the financial backup of FSG. Rafa's team in 2008/2009 was world beater and the team was built with CL prize money without financial support from the owners.

    ReplyDelete
  18. While Allen may not be 'top class' for West Ham or others where the tactics don't suit, he IS class for the tactics Rodgers is looking to employ. Remember Allen's role is not to be the creator in the team, it's to be the inner cog of the machine that ensures the machine keeps ticking over, continuing to recycle and mvoe on possession, from everything I have seen of him in a Liverpool shirt he is doing this fantastically.

Sahin also has something about him, given his performances at Dortmund and what Real Madrid paid for him. He's played all of 60 minutes of football in a red shirt so to call him a "side foot charlie" is a bit rich.

I agree that Borini has not looked as good as we had hoped, however the more I see of him the more it is obvious that he would be better played through the middle with Suarez given a free role from either the left or right flank or just tucked in behind Borini.

Hopefully the lack of firepower up front will ensure Rodgers attempts some creativity and gives Borini, Morgan and even Yesil some time in the middle of the park - all are strikers and that is where they belong, not on the flanks.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So, if we get rid of Enrique, who would be our first-choice LB? Our defence goes to shit when he's not available because Glen has to be put there, then someone who doesn't fit into Rodgers' system has to be put at RB

Yeah, let's get rid of him, our club's not totally fucked yet, Moron!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Rodgers said in his press conference that a goalscoring striker was his main priority when he joined the club, something us fans and the club have been crying out for since Torres left. Then his first signing is Fabio Borini for 11 million who totally unproven in the p.ship and is a championship player at best!!!! That just doesn't add up to me!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Borini is quality. He just continues to be played out of position as a wide forward when he should be playing centrally with suarez out wide. Once Rodgers figures that out I believe Liverpool will become a much great threat to opposing defences.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love how Assaidi has already replaced Downing, according to you, even though he's not even played a reserve game yet.

    ReplyDelete
  23. We will be dreaming of finishing 8th in a few months time. The next time we do as well as Rafa did in his worst ever season we'll all be a lot older.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have nothing against Rodgers and i dont blame him for advancing his career and its only nature and anybody would do the same, but i jus dont think he is the right man for liver for the simple fact that liver need a coach either on rafa's level or better, anything less means the club is moving backwards as has been since Roy was hired. All in all if he contines with the poor form in the first 10 matches he be walking on a thin line, but if loses 5 more after the first 10 then to protect us from relegation he has to go

    ReplyDelete
  25. What financial backup

    ReplyDelete
  26. The current management and owners are saying "its a work in progress" which is exactly what KD was saying about his squad, all managers make mistakes but you can't point the finger when they havent had the chance to complete the work

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree. Whatever you think of the Dalglish signings they ended (the always difficult) first season in 2 finals and 8th. FSG said its all about the league in which we lie 18th. I like Rodgers but believe his treatment of last seasons signings is a mistake and his revolution should have been evolution. I think we will struggle to finish 8th never mind any better so what will FSG say then. Football is simple if you have good players you will do ok. Add a good manager and you can win things. At the rate we are going we will have neither in a year.

  28. These Americans are greedy and if Brendan Rodgers does not deliver a top 4 finish then hes going to be out the door. What you have to understand is the legacy left by hicks and gillet have to be over turned, We need the kind of player that won the champion league in 2005 if that means spending £200million quid then thats the only way to get a top 4 finish. If FSG didnt have £300 million to spend on players then they should forget about dreaming of a top 4 finish!

    ReplyDelete
  29. they had all last season

  30. I think Enrique is a very good LB, disagree with U about him.

    ReplyDelete
  31. by the way Jamie Suarez is not even a daglish signing , negotiations started way before kenny got the nod, it as Roy and comoil, am not sure bout coates but as Gab from press said thats more of Comolie signing, Kenny best signing was bellamy........ enough said, now not to bash Kenny i think he would have been good as an intrim coach he was right when he said there was not right candidate after rafa got fired and he gave the players a clear lift, the problem came in when he was given a check book

    ReplyDelete
  32. no if we didnt buy him in the first place would have been a bullet dodged! but for some reason Dalglish prefered White Players over Brown World Class player.......

    ReplyDelete
  33. Were in the relegation Zone........ Roy hodgson had a better start than this Joker with his ticky tacka Football...... does the saying 'you cant teach an old dog new tricks..' ring any bells

    ReplyDelete
  34. Totally... look, I am still under the opinion Andy Carroll coulda worked out, but we could have gotten a real world class player for that price. perhaps even 3 for that matter!

We've got what we've got now and gotta live with it. Hopefully Adam Morgan and Yesil can come through for us...

    ReplyDelete
  35. to finish in the top 4 you need to spend £300 million. You need to knock on doors and demand world class talent.... by being stingy and expecting world class talent for pitence your then in the same boat as wigan! make no wonder FSG wanted the wigan manger!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Rafa would have thrown his dummy precisely on the first day of September and unsettled not only his entire squad, but also a certain group of fans and caused a hell of an unrest at boardroom level. To be honest, I'd be surprised if he lasted an entire season in his next job.

    ReplyDelete
  37. agree...all the flop signing by keny must be offload...i think kenny is the reason why kuyt, bellamy and maxi left liverpool..

    ReplyDelete
  38. While Borini hasn't impressed me at all so far, it has to be said that he scored 10+ goals for Roma last season and they are hardly Championship material. Carroll scored a massive four league goals last season, and he cost 35m.

    ReplyDelete
  39. How many hundreds of million would it have taken KD to finish his work in progress. Given his transfer record a few hundred. That kind of money is not available at Liverpool. He might fancy the Man City job.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The truth is as much as i find myself questioning Rodgers already i'd rather he was successful than not.....but for me its how he goes about it that will count most.

He should and is being backed by the board IMO, perhaps FSG are actually even covering for him, perhaps he was happy with what he saw in our youth and told FSG that it wouldn't be necessary to bring in anyone else...yet, who knows...

What i don't agree with is the crass accusations that Kenny and his signings are to blame for where we are now....

Swansea FC - 7 points from 3 games

Liverpool FC - 1 point from 3 games

That is where we are right now....clearly its up to Rodgers to prove his mettle as a manager at this Club....if he is successful in blooding the youth and if we improve i will be delighted esp for those players who have been given a chance and who are good enough to warrant a first team place.

And as i've said already FSG are not H & G revisited IMO, they are trying to get themselves out of the difficult situation they are in with the Red Sox and us, i don't blame them i but i can't help but question the methods they are using to achieve their ends.

For me the jury is very much out on Rodger's, i certainly wouldn't be giving it "Bravo Brendan" just yet..... we can talk about Kenny and his sgnings all day long but as we know that is all history now, a lot of those players are history at the Club and as Jamie says they won't be here next season....but will Rodgers..?

    ReplyDelete
  41. If all Kenny's players were bought at a quarter of their prices (except Suarez, Coates and Adam) it would have been ok. He would have still been fired but at least we would not be in the position we are in now. The amount of money wasted just boggles the mind! We are going to pay for this massive mistake for quite a while I'm afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think it's reasonable to assume that Assaidi has been bought to challenge/replace Downing, especially in light of his move to left back.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Imagine the team we would have, had BR spent that £113m????.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Christopher Rogers1:00 pm, September 05, 2012

rubbish. Liverpool have been big spenders for years (to the point of nearly going bankrupt) and have nothing to show for it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I will have to agree on this one. Although it looks scary losing that much depth in our team, but if you look at it, those players contributed nothing last season so why not give space for others and the academy to prove themselves. I always felt sticking with players that don't find their way a mistake and it's only when you have a really good starting 11 that you can test others on the way, but for now we need to find our best players fast!

But from all the players mentioned, I still believe Jose is good enough, I know he has been on a down since the end of last season but the guy has a great touch on the ball.

I think if we lose BR and don't support his ideas with time and money then it will be a big mistake, this is a rebuilding process and it needs everyone to be onboard, and I believe at the end BR will get it right as from what I saw, all his signings had a better start than most of our past signings.

    ReplyDelete
  46. KD did some serious damage with unbelievable bad/overpriced transfers. With £100m you could get 6 top glass players outside UK. He is a club legend but that doesn't fix his bad decisions as a manager.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Are you saying Dalglish is racist? Or are you being racist? I think you need to think about your comments a bit more before posting.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Judged by how we have been playing so far under him, i would say we're not far off from being competitive, though you could have said the same about Kenny'and the team last season, even if we go back to Rafa's period we always seemed to fall just short of the mark where we needed more investment....

Personally i will judge BR the same as i did any Liverppol manager, the standards and expectations are high at this Club and so they should be, we should not be celebrating an era of mediocrity, therefore "Bravo Brendan" seems a tad premature to me...

The jury is most definitely out on BR. Lets see if he can cut it LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  49. He hasnt played a league game but has already equalled Downings stats from last season.....

    ReplyDelete
  50. Even better, imagine the team if I had spent £113m (in football manager).

    ReplyDelete
  51. How can worsening our league position be classified as rectifying the mistakes of the last 18 months. FSG and Rodgers both say its a results game. I still support both but your comments of Bravo are simply rediculous given our start.

    ReplyDelete
  52. 8th (2 finals) versus 18th. Until that is not a fact then they have proved themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  53. There will always be debate about individual players and their value to the team. Overall it's clear that some players were poor acquisitions and others gave little value in their first season. Whilst fully behind BR it's far too early to say Bravo and there have been two key concerns. Firstly, why does everyone know which players he's so keen to get rid of and why was this obvious from the start of the transfer window. We went about our business as though we'd bought utter dross and knew it so would flog them at any price.. there was a transparent desperation to be rid of some players.. this meant that a) we would never get anything close to a good price for any of them and b) those we failed to flog will hardly be motivated to perform (unless there's an Alonsoesque stubborness to show their quality in their final season to secure a good move in the next window - remember Alonso's best season was his last but he'd made his decision the summer before). Basically - our approach means we've soiled or spoiled our own 'goods'. A cannier approach could easily have been adopted and delivered a better outcome. The second is that this purge of KD signings feels knee-jerk in places - all were in their first season and under-performed.. how many times have we seen it take a season or 18 months for a player to really start to deliver. You can't dismiss the quality that some of KDs signings had displayed previously in their careers. The fact they failed in season one meant we were closer to getting some results/performances from them (even if still not quite up to scratch) - the way we've handled it means we are starting all over again so not only have we lost the money, we've lost the bedding-in time that went on last year - at least 1 or 2 could have been much more value to the squad and even 1st XI this season given half a chance.. None have been given a sniff of a chance, alienated from day one.

I like most of what BRs done so far and his chat is pretty spot on.. but one of those comments earlier on was that we didn't get the performances from our signings last season and that he was happy to work with these players to get more out of this year. He's completely failed to do this, preferring a misguided fire sale and disillusioning those that we've failed to shift. So for me.. we have failed to use our assets as well as we could done over the summer and whilst the majority of 'blame' lies elsewhere, actions since BR took over have made things worse than they needed to be. So I think Bravo is particularly inappropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Come on, Kev. It's only 3 league games into the season; not really fair to compare a whole season of results with just three games, surely?

Also, it's important to note that the majority of goals conceded have come from avoidable individual mistakes from our most senior players, as opposed to poor team play.

    ReplyDelete
  55. What a completely stupid and disrespectful comment to make...

    Unfcukingbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  56. All respondents seem to want to tinker while the good ship Liverpool FC sinks. The Spirit of Shankly are addressing some key issues to the American owners but I think it is time for even them to stare the facts in the face and organise effective action.

    Facts:-

    1. American owners don't understand the requirements for success in EPL
    2. Who ever is advising them on the route to follow is equally culpable
    3. When FSG could not afford £2m more for a key striker they should go
    4. FSG have employed a manager who is caught like a rabbit in our lamps
    5. Rodgers inexperience is there for all to see in handling our players
    6. FSG are more interested in funding Red Sox to detriment of Liverpool
    7. FSG claim to have saved Liverpool FC from bankruptcy - that's all

    What next:-

    1. Liverpool FC season ticket holders must form an alliance and demand that one of their elected members must have a seat on the Board
    2. If the worldwide interest in our great club is to be sustained there must be confidence that it's management is effective and equipped to that end
    3. If FSG is unwilling to take a supporters rep unto the Board it's time to start showing red seats at home fixtures

All rational Liverpool supporters are most grateful to John Henry for saving our club but many things have happened recently that evaporates our confidence that return to winning ways will ever happen.

We are not going to wear different coloured scarves or berate our owners at home matches but just want to know improvement is likely to happen and our players can take the field knowing their manager is not trying to secretly move them out - so that they can give of their best.

  58. Bravo brenden 1 point so far HAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  59. the story with brendan is same as that with daglish, with the exception that the style of play has altered slightly...Both teams had good opportunities for goals but couldn't convert them. Hemce, the problem with both daglish and brendan's team lie not with the structure or style of play but with the attacking part only. What should have been done was to focus efficiently on the attacking side of the team....such as buy good fowards and maybe get a good attacking coach or any other way to increase the chance of scoring. Alex buy persie who is a proven goalscorer, wenger replaces one striker with two, chelsea sets on improving torres by buying a player in Hazard capable of doing what Gerrard did for torres in lfc, City already has good strikers and patched up with tevez to get the glowing results....What can be seen is that each top team of the premiership has set about trying to improve their attack. What liverpool do is the reverse...so that is why we have these results.

  64. My answers to your Facts:
    1. True Americans do not understand
    2. I have asked this question myself who do they take guidance from, who told them to appoint Comoli for example, why did they ditch the DOF position after introducing it.
    3. They dont have the ready money due to cash flow problems probably
    4. They have also employed a very inexperienced manager who they think wont go demanding huge sums for big players like a Mourinho or Benitez would
    5. I agree on the touchline against Arsenal he looked more like a Sunday leauge manager watching the Dog and Duck being mauled by the Eagle and Child
    6. Correct they live in the USA and thats were their priority is, the Red Sox, although they are making a hash of that
    7. They thought they could pick up a big club for extra nothing due to the perilous position it was in they wouldnt of come near it if they had wealthy owners trying to sell it.

Supporters of Football clubs are more passionate than baseball fans which once the NFL starts plays very much second fiddle to the American sports public. The Americans cannot seem to grasp this fact.
The present squad wont finish in the top 10 as more injuries will occur, Agger, Gerrard and Johnson usually get injured at least 3 times a season. It cannot compete in 3 competitions and the Europa Cup will have a serious detrimental effect on league form

  66. I like what BR has done so far personally. I think Enrique is good enough to play at Liverpool and had a decent first half of last season. His loss of form coincided with the loss of Agger to injury and the loss of form of the rest of the squad. IMHO Downing has a chance now to show the manager that he can be more effective at EPL level than our future 17 year old wonder boy, but you get the opinion watching Downing that he is too easily usurped. Against Man City, Sterling was brave and took on their defenders regardless of their reputations. Watch Downing in any top game and you will see that as soon as he approaches a well regarded defender he passes the ball to someone else. Very similar in mentality is Henderson. He also is not a "brave" player preferring to play the safe game. Too often he passes it sideways and backwards instead of taking responsibility himself. He is 21 years old and he is not going to change anytime soon. Look at Allen, he is near enough the same age and his mentality is the complete opposite. IMHO losing Downing and Henderson would be no great loss to the squad. The club may have to suffer getting rid of the pair for a massive loss, we really wouldn't get much more than £10M for the pair in my opinion, but to move forward the club may have to take that blow on the chin. Hopefully BR could do a lot with £10M. The idea now though is to find a striker or two who will be very highly valued in the future and if the budgets allow for it for BR to go out and get him/them. As painful as the whole situation seems now as a supporter I have to say that we need to be patient, 3 games does not make a season and we will have more bad days before things get better.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm really struggling with this post. You would like to see a squad to lose Enrique, Downing and Henderson in addition to Carroll, Adam, Maxi, Bellamy, Spearing and Kuyt? It's this sort of thinking that has left us so short of attacking options. Self destructive! We all know we overpaid for players but the fact is they are still premier league standard players. We need a squad to compete in all competitions. Last season after 19 games the squad of flops, without the captain, which was still heavily criticised had 34 points, deserved more and was very much in the race for fourth. We all know things changed after the Suarez affair, injuries and the focus on the cups but I think everyone would be content with 34 after 19 games this season. I think Allen is a fantastic buy and am confident we will see Sahin come good but I am sceptical about the others.
We are at serious risk, considering the games coming up of only having one point after 5 or 6 games. That would have been unthinkable last season.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yes, I would like to see those players gone. It's possible Rodgers may have brought in someone to replace Enrique before the transfer deadline, but I'd be quite happy to see their places taken by 6 or 7 youngsters from the reserves. It's not as if the likes of Suso, Coady, Morgan et al could do any worse than Henderson and Downing, is it?

    ReplyDelete
  69. How many more Downings,Hendersons,Carroll's would he have included in squad if he was not sacked.Just imagine.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Perhaps their stories over the course of a season should be compared in May 2013? Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Rodgers does need to be given time to develop his methods. We are all obviously hurting given the start to the season but ask if any manager coming into the Rodgers' role (including Guardiola, Rafa, Wenger, Jose and Mancini) would have realistically done much better a few games into the season, with this squad which lacks depth.

What is really starting to irritate me immensely is the lack of patience shown by what seems to be a growing number of (armchair) Liverpool fans so far this season. I will say no more than this is NOT our way and I for one will be very unhappy if such sentiments in our fanbase became the norm as opposed to the exception, which has been the case historically.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Henderson for Dempsey would've been a double deal for the club - getting rid of deadwood and signing a 20+ goal striker, that's the kind of deals that really improve teams.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I disagree abt Enrique leaving, if he does, who is going to take his place? He is a good left back! If BR sold him, he would face the wrath of liverpool fans... or is he already facing that. In my opinion though. I like the tiki tika kind of ball he's brought in. If we stick with him for at least three seasons, we would be like barca. We tapped Arsenal towards the end of the last game. And I like the confidence building up in the team. Even when we went behind.

  74. It is ironic that people questioned alot of Rafa's players but they are the current players who are still at the club and will give good resale value and are great prospects for the future. KD i thought was unlucky as he was driven by statistics produced by comolli which the board loved. downing, enrique carroll, henderson and Adam where statistically the main providers for their respectives teams (hendo and carroll having potential statistically anyway) The comolli and moneyball idea of bringing all of these together to then statistically make a very productive team was the idea. that went utterly wrong, but was it just KD's fault or was he pushed into line by owners and comolli to accept the policy??

All i know is at present the current and future spine of liverpool are from benitez; Reina, johnson, skrtel, agger, kelly, robinson lucas, stirling, suso and shelvey. He was still the only manager who gave us world class players and got the best out of aour current crop.

Benitez for all his failings out of 6 seasons we was in the CL and it was only through the lack of respect from H&G that finally put an end to his reign.

  75. I agree Jamie to start comparing after 3 games is wrong. But I'm really making my point regarding Bravo. I believe most of our signings got a raw deal last season. They were judged on the price tag. If they had cost half the amount we wouldn't have everyone on their back. My concern is if we keep starting over we will never reach the end.

  77. It'll be very scary if everyone thinks we need a few hundred mil pounds in order to compete in the Champions League again. If we have this amount of money, we should build a new stadium. Arsene Wenger never demand hundreds of mil pounds from the owners to qualify for Champions League. Look at the gulf in standards between the 2 clubs now. Imo, owners do not have obligations to pour mils and mils of pounds into a club. But they do need to go through stringent scouting procedure for right managerial candidate. Look at the way how KD chose his players and how Arsene Wenger chose his, one will know it will be a clear insult to Arsene Wenger to make this comparison.

  78. Sometimes all it takes is just few words to sum up where we are at, and you my friend have hit the nail right on the head...

"My concern is if we keep starting over we will never reach the end."

    Very well said indeed!

  84. Honestly JK some of the guys that post here on your comments section make me laugh. I dont know if the average age for commentors is 13 or anything but comments like FSG should fork out 200m to challenge for top 4 and 300m for title are just ridiculous. Do people even know what a million is here or they know it from playing fifa manager? Who in their right mind would buy a club for 300+m and then pile a 300m debt immediately afterwards in just two years? Wouldnt that just bring d club back to the state H&G left it in? Fans need to get real and accept that we are a work in progress. Our chances of finishing in the top 4 are very slim. Give brendan rodgers time he will get it right. These knee-jerk reactions after just 3 games come on guys really

  85. The history of the LFC is enviable to a lot of clubs. I guess our competitors dont want Liverpool back where we should be. Succesful.
As Brendan and previous managers have stated when Liverpool F.C come in for a player, add that extra nought, no one club wants to be ridiculed for giving LFC the missing jigsaw,Great players!
In my opinion the players brought in we're a gamble to achieve champions league status, along with that you pay big wages, furthermore there are some players still at the club who are paid big money of which it is difficult to move them on. It looks like from here on in it's youth.
I look at Brendan Rodgers appointment as when Bill Shankly first entered the club a massive massive job.
This is going to be a Long arduous journey.

  87. What? You think that his mighty haul of 4 league goals all season is somehow going to be desperately missed?

  88. Really without disrespect, KD will be given the boot within the first week in Man City given the fact that he signed a half-season wonderkid on a 80k weekly wage and 35 mil pounds in fees. Let's not talk about SD and JH, they are simply too 'cheap' in terms of transfer fees and wages. I cannot believe that fans still thinks KD was the right candidate for the job and FSG was wrong by giving the man the sack too quickly. Ultimate amazement, simply out of the universe. :)

  89. Yes Rodgers needs to be given time. What I am hesitant though is the way he is trying to change everything in one summer (reminds me of what AVB did at Chelsea and trying to do at Spurs). I am also a bit worried about the number of players he has at his disposal currently (barely 15 outfielders and may be 20 if you include the yougesters like Sterling and Morgan) and if few of these players are out injured, I don't think he has enough for cover. He has to compete in the league, Europa, Capital and FA cups as well. If he doesn't add any new players in January, there will be 20 wounded and tired players by the end of the season and whether LFC is in better shape than when it was under Kenny, we will have to wait and see.

  90. So unfortunate Rafa is not english or british or anglo saxon....

  91. Do you really think there will be unrest at the boardroom should 30 mil was not used to serve loan interest but for Rafa to buy Silva or Mata? Not to mention if he was given the 100 mil wasted by KD!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. This is a pretty pointless comment. What has his nationality to do with it?

  93. Rafa caused trouble at Valencia and Inter because he didn't get exactly what he wanted. He's been out of work since being sacked at Inter. I do believe that there is a reason that he wasn't considered for the positions that became vacant since. Sampdoria wanted him, but he told them that they could not compete at the top end and those clubs who can don't want him, obviously.

  94. Agree 100%....to me the solution is to bring the great man back again and am sure he will have learnt alot from his time out and rectified his mistakes

  102. So you would rather have a yes man and keep the fans in the dark.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I think it would definitely worse to be honest. You are talking about players who have been disappointing but they are internationals and have experience of the premier league.
Our squad is down to the bare bones. It's all very well talking about transition and that we are starting over again, but if we go too far backwards we will become less attractive to players and our best will want to move on.

  104. everything!!! The Media who influenced the fans, and the establishment (incs players ex-players and managers would have been fair and not disrespectful to rafa. I dont think their has been a manager who has been so disrespected in public by allmost everyone , why???

  105. Enjoyed reading these comments. Only a few days to go before the 'big' test of Sunderland, who bought striking talent in the window for about the same cost as BRs Borini.

Bravo Brenda? bit of an odd headline, he has turned LFc from the third most difficult team to score against, into whipping boys. How did he achieve that so quickly? Some of your posts here suggest he tried to do everything at the same time. When all he needed to focus on was the striker issue.

He doesnt seem to manage, he dictates from a plan. I dont think players ever follow a plan, whoever they are, they need to be set up correctly, and given confidence, and after that it flows on the pitch. That is the true test of a manager. Coaching is only half the job. But to start with, in your first season, to win anything, you have to make the team stop conceding goals. KD knew that.

    and landed in 8th position?
Would 6th have changed your mind or 5th or 4th?
What did you expect in the first season of KD

  107. Don't know why every manager you don't like has to be a yes-man. I truly believe that, if there are any problems at the club concerning manager and board, it should be dealt with internally. The public does not need to know everything that's going on, even if that means that the fans are kept in the dark over a few items. Thought it was the Liverpool Way to not wash our dirty linen in public.

  108. Do you really think this is true? I don't.
