I quit! Massive Blow for LFC as top coach leaves Anfield...

On the eve of the new Premier League season, Jose 'Pep' Segura has quit his job as Liverpool's Academy Technical Director, leaving a gaping hole in the management of the club's youth set-up.

Segura - who previously worked with Barcelona's youth system - allegedly quit Anfield after a promotion he was promised failed to materialise.

Along with Rodolfo Borrell, Segura has been integral to the massive improvements at Liverpool's Academy over the last few years, to the extent that his coaching philosophy is now implemented throughout the Academy's entire age range. The question is, what promotion was he promised, and why did it fall through? A couple of possibilities:

* Technical/Sporting Director: Prior to Rodgers' appointment, FSG planned to create several new technical roles at the club, one of which could've been earmarked for Segura. Rodgers insisted that he didn't want to work with a Technical or Sporting Director, so those roles never actually became a reality.

* First team coach: This week, U18 coach Mike Marsh was promoted to the role of LFC first team coach. Considering the fact he was lower in the Anfield hierarchy than Segura, the promotion could be seen as a major public snub for the Spaniard. As such, it seems likely that this is the reason Segura has quit, especially given his managerial background with Olympiacos.

Make no mistake, Segura's departure is a huge blow for Liverpool, but it's not the end of the world. The club will go on (!), and and I'm sure LFC will find a top replacement.

  2. if BR doesnt perform and FSG get rid we will be a club with no management structure at all. your headline a massive blow is spot on. I am certain you cannot replace the best there is with better. Rogers will probably bring in the guy from Swansea whats his name ermm Anon Isme who once watched a youthful Ian Rush play at chester declaring this lad might be ok.......................The Panto continues

  3. Owners scrimping again. I hate american owners. Why get involved in football if your not going to provide investment. Im fully behind rodgers and his ideas. but the owners are just pro ving to be another bunch of cowboys in the game to line their own pockets. I wanted to give these guys the benefit of the doubt. I have for a year and half. Fairplay they wiped some of the debt. But they got the club for pittance. I really dont see much difference between these lot and the previous regime. Its a shame. But truth be told i think we sold our soul to the devil when moores sold the club. Really dissapointed and wonder what the point of it all is these days.

  7. Why are the owners scrimping?

I really don't get this kick the owners attitude, they spent heavily last year, and achieved nothing, I am glad some realism has kicked in, if we haven't got it, don't spend it.

By losing Kuyt (60k), Aqua (80k), Maxi (60k) and Bellamy (80k) we must of saved ourselves a fortune each week in wages, add on a few other players who are no longer with LFC, this has been a great summer in respect to cutting what has become a farce of a wage bill.

Yeah, they got the club cheap, would you be happier if they paid over the odds for it, what difference does it make to you what they paid for it?

I would be more inclined to look at our youth set up, i hear great things coming from people who proclaim our youth set up to be one of the best around, yet it has failed to produce genuine quality since JC and SG, yeah we have Kelly, Spearing, Flanagan but can we expect any of these to light up the Premier League.

Our club needs over hauling, and I think the current owners and BR have made a good start.

  10. A massive blow! What a headline??? Well done Kanwar. You are very good at this. So can you tell me again what was Segura role at first team matters?? At first reading the headline sounds like Brendan Rodger has resigned, but not, it is the Academy Technical Director who nobody knows and it is not a big deal as you claim it to be. It is a new era Mr Kanwar and there are lot of people who would be unhappy at changes or get sissapointed, like in all other fields of life. Someone better will come in and life goes on. Thanks for all teh effort and job you have done Mr Segura at the academy and good luck where you're going next. Liverpool YNWA

  12. Investment like Moores supplied?  What exactly do you miss about the British ownership?  Fickle Brit.  The American owners are trying to make LFC profitable and successful.  Owning a football club is a business move...unless you're oil rich or a Russian gangster.  Henry and co. spent plenty of money last year.  Money one Brit, albeit a legend, and one cocky Frenchman thought was well spent.  Where did that get us?  Keep your opinions to yourself, half wit.  They learned their lesson and will not be throwing money at more overpriced British "talent".  Keep your rubbish opinions to yourself next time, half wit.

  13. Spanish style of football is a lot different from what i assume you mean which is the way Barcelona play.

Just because he is Spanish does not mean he shares the believes of BR in the way football should be played.

Remember the way Rafa The Spaniard had us playing.....

  17. How are they scrimping? Where have you been all summer. Cost cutting has been in for sometime. We where top of the league for fitness and sacked our science doctor as one example. I think you answered your own question with your 2nd paragraph. Were losing experience and replacing it with unproven cheaper and chearfull players. Would i have liked them to pay a premium? No im highlighting they got a great deal and have since put relatively little money into the club. After player sales last season the money spent on players would have been covered by our own income. Net expenditure was hardly extravagant. The problem was Kenny spent money made very poorly. The owners are on record as saying they want the club to be self sufficient and are begging UEFA to punish those who disobey FFP rulea. So my worries are not unfounded.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Just one more thing. Is nobody else concerned about a worrying lack in depth? A few injuries to gerrard suarez allen lucas etc could see our season blow up before its started.

    ReplyDelete
  19. shut up going on about being concerned about the lack of depth we have, we are no worse off than last year we have replaced the players who have left, one who was missing on loan and have joe cole back from lille

  20. What do i miss about the British ownership? Only the fact the moores family bankrolled the club for decades mate. Do you have any knowledge of the clubs history? For all his faults his family had a stake in us for a very long time. Money has ruined the epl. Thtas my humble opinion. If you dont like it. Grow up. Its a forum.

  21. podolski an giroud are hardly prolific goal scorers, podolski just has a name for himself an thats why your up his arsse. the owners know what they are doing look at what happened when we spent more than we had last time and got ourselves in more debt than what we can handle. Now we are spending wisely after clubs think they can rinse us on transfer fees

    ReplyDelete
  22. Up podolskis arse? How old are you? Giroud helped his previous team montpellier hsc to the title last season? Do you realise how big a deal that is? Podolski is an international for Germany. Maybe not prolific but a great signing and experienced in a top division and at international level. We bought a youngster from Roma for more money. :-)

  23. Are you aware of the performance of the sports science and fitness people, are you aware of their targets, did they meet expectations, there is no way we will ever know, so I am unsure as to how you can suggest their sacking was financially motivated.

We have replaced the players we have lost (and rightly so in my opinion) with Allen and Borini, Sterling has bee brought in to the first team fold and of course we have just signed this 'unknown' Moroccan player, have we been significantly weakened, some may argue we have been improved, and still saved ourselves around half a million in wages a month.

What you call scrimping, I call sensible business deals, which I think are good for the club, please don't quote that the sacking of backroom staff means the owners are penny pinching as you have no idea of the reasons for their sacking.

    ReplyDelete
  24. And its great to see that BR is happy to walkaway from deals (GS) if the price gets to high.

If only DC had taken that approach last season we may not have paid stupid money and wages

    ReplyDelete
  25. Obviously yes. I think top of the fitness league charts is a pretty good indicator mate. Or maybe it was a massive co incidence. I dont need quote they have been spouting it all week about in every media outlet possible.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Nobody is doubting your right to an opinion, but i have to disagree.

The fact is Moores family could no longer afford to take LFC forward, and he sold to the wrong people, dont blame him for that, but things have to move forward.

I would much rather my club be run correctly, as I believe it is, than ran like City, soulless in my opinion.

  27. its makes me chuckle some section of the fans abuse of both FSG and our new boss, we were on the verge of bankrupcy people were even saying if we wernt sold we were done,so they got us for a song and cleared the debt, look at were we are now finacally to were we were in them final weeks of the H & G ownership, its a 100% difference, everything they are working towards is these new money rules coming in,its stupid to go our and throw money at players to make them come to liverpool,we have had them over the past few years and whats happened, they are learning from there mistakes in the transfer market, they are learning every day.anyone who thinks signing marquee names is gonna turn us around is deluded,we have fallen so far behind the top its gonna take us a few years to challenge again, realistic fans will already no this, last year imo legend he is kenny was given to long and anyone else would of gone along time before.....its about time fans woke up and got in the real world and realised there is a huge job to get us back up.....and rather than attacking for every decision we should give them our trust until they do something actually worth slagging them off for because after all FSG saved our club and are bringing us back from the brink......oh and when these new finacal rules come in and we are living within our means, and all these new comical deals aswell as other increased revenues will be topping up and the likes of city chealski utd are all being hammered well who will be praising the owners then.and 1 last thing and rant over can we do what we do best and get behind brendan and the new players and staff and give them a chance, only asking for the same support kenny and co recived during what was a crap season baring a god cup run, they should be given a chance, there will be ups and downs but they are changing they way we play, new formations new tactics new players and huge expectations,YNWA now lets stuff WBA and start off with a real statement.....

  29. 2 years on and I'm still sitting on the fence with these owners
Yes over £100mill spent ... But that has nearly been returned in player sales, so they haven't actualy spent much at all.
What I do see is them clearing the club of the old stick-in-the mud habits that have bought this club to its knees over the last few years.
We can blame Kenny as much as we want, but the truth is .. No-one could have turned the club around anymore than Kenny because it was in such a mess from hick&gillette.
Raffa had his hands tied towards the end and made some bad decisions as much as Kenny did, but hey you show me a manager that hasn't made a few big mistakes?
FSG are slow sorting out the stadium issue, and 2 years on we have got no further forward but the world is in recession so we have to judge that with caution.
One thing that has stood out with me is the statement made on LFC TV by Mr Tom Werner, he said something like "We can match any club in the transfer market" ..... A few weeks later, Siggurdson signs for Spurs and Rodgers is then forced to say he was not prepared to pay over the odds ?!!?! Well it doesn't take a scientist to work out that Spurs have been the better team the last few years ! So why the Heck didn't we show the colour of our money?
We also seem to be going for players that can play tiki taka style... But i have to question that because the players we have bought are not experienced in the top 4 of the premiership, and at the moment Liverpool is SCREAMING OUT for some world class players to come and bring a real threat to the top 4.
We are miles behind United, City, Chelsea, but we are properly on an even par with Spurs and Arsenal.
The sponsorship deals we have made are great business for the club and that is a good sign that the people on the commercial side are working very hard indeed.
So I can only say I am concerned for the club in a sense but happy in another way because the money is starting to roll in.
Like I said ..... I'm sitting on the fence.

  31. Segura, may have been at Barca blah, blah, blah. But watching the academy teams at the different levels, I have not seen any games played in the Barca style, aka ticki-taka. Some of the academy teams have been doing well because of individual talents brought in from Rafa's time and over the last three years under Henry and Warner. Perhaps Sergura thought that he was in contention for tha manager's post itself just like how Kenny was brought in. The owners wanted a technical director earlier, but because of Brandan's terms and conditions, the owners have scrapped it. Looking at how Commolli and Dalglish have squandered the funds and how Brandan has gone about with the transfers with limited resources gives me hope. Don't think Segura would have accepted being promoted as coach under Brandan. Moreover I think Brandan may have introduced his own brand of of tiki-taka as the Liverpool' former pass and move is known nowadays in Spain.

  37. Please remember these words because when it starts to go wrong like the Boston Red Sox, you don't say a word. John Henry and FSG are pure book worms. They would know anything about sports even if that in itself was a sport.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Are you sure you're not John Henry using a different name?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree with you my friend but when LFC spends like this please ask FSG not to expect the world in return(top four finish). The transfer window has a ocean of talent in it and what did FSG do? Give a coach who's dream is to be like another coach, a basket and a promise. "there is no pressure to get anywhere this season," can anyone tell me why we are playing again. Planning to fail all because we fail to plan. How much did the Red Sox team cost, and is FSG bankrupt? No!!! Baseball is the bread winner and so LFC must be "self sufficient" until they get to the Champions League, where John Henry can sit and show off the trophy wife. I am sorry The Yankees organisation didn't buy LFC they fully understand how to win championships and building empires.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am convinced that you are John Henry using another name. If you want to play the type of football that Barcelona is playing and you have one of the architects of that very system then why let him go. Remember BR wants to be like them not the other way around. I may as well prepare myself for another disappointing season. FSG has turned one of Europe's great dynasties into a joke. Borini over Mataius Suarez, where did you people learn this game?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm just wondering if LFC will have a new stadium after all. This is the best way to increase revenue for the club. Money burnt by KD and DC were a quarter of a stadium. The thought of this pains my heart greatly.

We are now way off the leading clubs in EPL, both results on pitch and financially. Again I kept seeing fans here saying the crazy money burnt by KD and DC were from player sales. Please for God sake, we can always keep the money and use it for better course. It's not necessary to re-invest every single penny into new players, especially on mediocre ones.

  44. agree with most bar a couple of points, the world class players,in order for us to attract them without CL football is to give them huge money contract like aqua mans bumper pay days, and hard to shift on if it dosnt work out,we have world class players in the team not many but we have some we also have some very good players and talented lads as wel, get them playing good football build confidence and wins will come, and also about the lad who went to spurs over us imo it was good business and proves people at the club in them roles are refusing to offer daft money, and r learning from there mistakes in there previous transfer windows, i read or watch a interview but rodders said a contract when he was at swansea was agreed and was for 30k a week,2 weeks later rodders came to liverpool and the lad was linked with us and spurs his contract offers were nearly doubled by his agent and spurs payed it,i belive the deal would of been sanctioned and done if rodders was asked like i believe he would of been that is he worth that money and rodders said no with only the owners and ayre at the positions of bringing in and shippin out so i just dont see rodders not being involved in the process plus with the wage bill cut by a qtr of a mill a week there was no issue about havin the funds there so if rodders said he isnt worth that then i trust him....i think fans are daft to think that the manager wouldnt of been give guarantees of final say on transfer and other things as part of his deal to come and manage us,if they scrap the plan for a director of footie and technical what ever because brenden didnt want it then why wouldn't they ask him if a player he has managed is worth the outlay....

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ok then, show us what have you done to make lfc better. If you have done Nothing other than complaining, why don't you start right now and takeover lfc from fsg. Go ahead, we have confidence in you. Cmon now, show us that you're not full of hot air but a doer.

    ReplyDelete
  46. They are not scrimping, where were you last season? We performed badly in the league, which means less revenue. They are not going to take revenue away from the Red Sox and put into us. If they took revenue away from us and put it into the Red Sox, you would be up in arms. Get with reality. We only qualified for Europa because we won the League Cup, there's not a whole lot of revenue there, Chelsea got nearly 50mil for winning the Champion's League, so they went out and bought, Man City and Man United came first and second respectively, they get the revenue for finishing in those places, they get to spend. Arsenal have bought Podolski and Giroud because they haven't bought big purchases in the past couple of seasons, they get the revenue from making the Champion's League and they have a huge stadium which brings in it's own revenue. And if the general ethos of present day Liverpool is turning you away from it then frankly, you are not a true Liverpool fan/supporter. Do you want the owners to spend more than we make in a season and get reprimanded by it by Uefa, which will probably mean loss of points as well as a fine? No, that will be bad for us. The owners are allocating money, but not ridiculous amounts. Let's have a look at something. Players gone out, Kuyt, Bellamy, Maxi, Aurelio, Aquilani, their sales combined would be maybe 10mil if we are lucky. Players brought in, Borini who is 10-11mil, Allen who is 15mil, this new lad who is an extra 2-3 mil with the possibility of one or two more players coming in, I would much prefer this kind of spending than the spending Dalglish did, that way if the players don't work out, it's not that much of a cost to the club. And to answer your question, what have we bought? We have bought players who fit into the system and are value for money. Again, a look at the past, we bought a no name player from Chester City in 1980, a player who then went on to become arguably our best ever striker. That player's name? Ian Rush. We bought another no name player as Rush's replacement when he left for Juventus, bought this no name player from Oxford City, a player who went on to score 50 goals in 83 matches for us. His name? John Aldridge. This proves that just because you have heard of a player and he is worth astronomical amounts of money, doesn't mean he is good or will fit into our system and more importantly, just because you haven't heard of a player and we have bought him relatively cheaply, does not mean he won't be a great player for us.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Really? What rock have you been living under? We have at least 2 players for every position now and the players brought in can play in multiple roles, plus we have youngsters at our own club, we have a lot of depth.

    ReplyDelete
  48. And the one time Podolski was at a big club, being Bayern Munchen, he drowned, it remains to be seen if he can get over his "big fish in small pond" syndrome

    ReplyDelete
  49. We didn't finance Carroll's transfer though, Chelsea did. FSG has said time and again that the only reason why we paid that much for Carroll was solely down to how much we got for Torres, that we were going to pay 15mil less for Carroll, that means if we sold Torres for 35, we would have bought Carroll for 20. You harp on about the so called bad decisions made, and not the good decisions, to get 50 mil for Torres was amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. FSG don't actually expect a top four finish this season, they only expect us to do better than we did this season, I think a top 6 finish is a reasonable and realistic goal for the season and qualifying for Europa without having to rely on winning a domestic cup means we will have more revenue coming in so in the next year or two we can push for the top four. And baseball is self sufficient, they use their own revenue to fund their own purchases. FSG are building the same thing with us. Even when we get into Champion's League, we will still be self sufficient, because we will have more revenue coming in and so can then have a bigger transfer kitty. It's really simple, the better you do in the league, the more revenue you bring in. And I think you'll find, in fact I know you'll find that when FSG bought the Red Sox, the Red Sox had been the side that had flattered to deceive and hadn't won a World Series for over 80 years. Within three years of buying the Red Sox, they have sold off many of their aging stars, streamlined the wages and they won the World Series and won multiple World Series in fact. At the Red Sox, they have in fact built an empire and they are looking to do it here too. Unfortunately for "fans" like you, sustained success doesn't come overnight, it is a long, patient process

    ReplyDelete
  51. And when FSG bought Liverpool, they eradicated our debt, therefore, they are bankrolling the club.

  52. I know who I would have preferred. Prepare yourself for another disappointing season? Here's a better suggestion. Go support another club, we don't want the type of supporter you are associated with our great club.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's not about the Spanish Connection as you put it, it's about having the best and Borrell and Segura have proved over a number of years that they are the best, regardless of their nationality. It's down to the youth set up to get the young players ready for first team action so that if and when the manager calls upon them, they can fit into the side seamlessly and not be a fish out of water, this is something Barcelona and Real Madrid have done for decades and just to point something out, Rafa's first coaching job was the head of the Real Madrid youth team.

    ReplyDelete
  54. You have not seen any of the youth teams play that way simply because we didn't play that way, the youth teams need to play in the same way as the senior team so that if and when they are called up, they can fit in seemlessly.

  56. As far as the transfer situation goes, Siggurdson was out for as much money as he could get, playing under Rodgers on two previous occasions, Rodgers knew more than anyone the amount of money he was worth, he offered that wasn't paying a cent more, because to him, Siggurdson wasn't worth more. Had nothing to do with not being able to match Spurs, it was to do with not wanting to match Spurs, BIG difference. Maybe Rodgers is looking to create a superstar team that have little expectations and can hit the ground running than have a team of superstars who will take time to gel. Rodgers and FSG are doing the right thing for me and are turning this club, slowly but most definately surely, into a club that are going to be a powerhouse in the world of football again. This is going to take time, even for Man City, who have spent astronomical amounts of money have taken many seasons to win the league. It didn't happen overnight.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I agree mate, it wasn't the fact that we finished 8th that was so bad, it was the fact that we finished 8th and so far off the pace, we were 12 points behind Chelsea in 6th, if we had finished 8th and 5 or 6 points out of the top 4, then I believe Kenny would have kept his job, but the amount of points off the top 4 was the clincher. And the three main reasons for this have left, Comolli, Dalglish and Clarke.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yes Kenny and Commoli wasted funds, makes me think what IDIOTS appointed them, yet, to some on here FSG are blameless. Kenny was not Manager after a coup, he was APPOINTED BY FSG, END OF.

  64. Just the two/three days ago, Rodgers was saying we lacked depth and 'need to make a few signings'.

Maybe needs one more wide player (Sterling is a puppy, Downing...well is Downing and the new lad alone isn't enough). and one more attack-minded central midfielder to cover Gerrard (as illustrated by going for Sigurdsson, now Sahin. Shelvey is a puppy, despite the hype he gets. The other options are better off deeper in midfield (Lucas, Hendo, Allen and Adam). Its a 4-3-3 formation, maybe can get away with having three established strikers in the squad (but that is assuming we get the right numbers in relation to wing options), maybe not.

We could definitely add a number to one or two areas of the squad, depending on how we line up tactically.

    ReplyDelete
  65. We got the 50 million but we didn't have to spend 35 million on Carroll did we? We could've easily spent 15-20 million and I'm sure Newcastle would have accepted. OR, we could have signed someone else for even less.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yep, £50m for Torres is great but we are the ones that chose to go for Carroll, not Chelsea, Spurs, etc. The accounts will say the money came from us, not Chelsea, for Carroll and rightly so. I think its a apologists' outlook/excuse to look at it so tribal-ly  and ease the pain that 'we only paid that much because Chelsea paid that much for Torres, so its ok if we spent that amount on Carroll'. Regardless how FSG & co spin it, to spend that amount of money on a player who didn't even top the charts in the Championship was shambolic.

    ReplyDelete
  67. BR has ensured at least the club can get rid of players he brings in who dont perform by not paying overs i like his efforts so far.
FSG may have been a little naive in allowing Dalglish to squander the funds he did but he thought it was for the best.
The number of over paid mercenaries is over hopefully and once the likes of Cole are gone the better.

  68. There is some absoloutly top hat shouts on here!! Liverpool has had a decline in performance through players not fulfilling their promise and extremely poor management through Kenny. The result is we can not compete with buying the eden hazards of the world and it is as simple as that!! Stop your moaning and thinking you actually know what's going on within the club when you don't have a clue. Yes the owners are being clever with their money but I think you will find we are about the 4th 5th or 6th highest spenders this summer which is exactly right!!!

  69. With the money Kenny and Commoli blew before the season started, do you seriously expect fsg to blow more in Jan to fix their fu*k ups. No way. 100 million should have all bases covered. He chose the junk and DC negotiated. Kenny sighted off on it. Simple. We got banged sideways by Kenny and Commoli.

to me is a massive loss...we had been produced lot above average young player past few yr...some may not agree n question why youth not linked to 1st team if i rated our youth so well...answer is whole BPL calture want instant success with the buy rather than give young some chances...

  71. people have short memories!! Jamie is a legend, dont forget what he has done for this club. People somehow think as a club we have a divine right to waste a shed load of money, which isn't viable. FSG went down that road last year and have had their hands burnt. They have chosen a different route this season and i cant wait till BR and this approach proves all you muppets wrong!! Bore off, liverpool fans are fans and supporters of the club, not clueless and moaning idiots, clearly you must be a southerner!!!

  72.  it not all that fare when making an agreement with some one then later on you refuse to fulfill your promise, why should Lfc made an agreement with Segura then fail to fulfill what they agreed on,its a big lost to lfc allowing such a quality coach left its so sad and painful.

  75. If FSG would like to earn a lot more money, then why haven`t they gone all out too buy Clint Dempsey? im sure shirt sales alone would pay for his transfer fee and wage each year, he stays at Anfield?.

  76. Hi Jaimie: Are you sure of this?  Nobody else seems aware of it yet.

  77. You remind me of the half wits littering the pool forums. Who if they dont like something. Post a load of drivel as if they are in the know. When all they are doing is posting the same media myths portrayed by the hacks they proclaim to despise. Oh and great result today. We really gave the mighty west brom a go didnt we. Only utd city n arsenal next.

  78. Hit the ground running? They did that today didnt they? Well they just hit the ground and imploded.

  79. What a ridiculous juvenile comment. This is a forum for exchanging views on Liverpool. Just because it doesnt fit your viewpoint doesnt mean its an invalid one.

  80. Jaimie: Your reputation suffers when you post "news" that seems to be made out of thin air. You're are the only source posting this story. What confirmation can you offer?

  81. Some inaccurate stuff from you Jaimie.

    1. Segura is not and never has been a top coach.

    2. His only involvement in the Barca youth set-up was 1 single year spent as youth team assistant manager.

    3. Rafa brought him over to put Rafa's ideas into practice, he did little off his own back.

    He's not a big loss.

  82. if we go far enough - then this is the biggest mistake in a long line of mistakes. Moores chose the cowboys for a few million extra for himself. Had we got the arab sheikhs yes we would have won the league just as city has done.

Its no secret, and its always been about money. When liverpool and utd had the most money no one could compete. Remember Fergie paid 30 million for ferdinand back in 2002! Now its the next level of money and other clubs have it.

The only way to survive is the Arsene Wenger way which is to buy the best talent and nurture it. look at all the players who made a name for themselves and how he then sold them. Even now he has bought top notch and no doubt he will have to sell them for huge profits in a few years time.

I waited 2 decades for KK to return and when he returned and produced those magical displays i was adamant that we would win the league sooner rather than later. However his buys were absolutely atrocious barring suarez. I cant believe such bad judgement from someone who once bought in barnes, beardsley and aldridge to form arguably the best team in the league.

Instead it was the Speedie and Rosenthal show!

FSG dont escape blame either. It was them who came in all talk about prudence, moneyball and buying british. But 100 million gross spend wasnt prudent. Buying Adam, Henderson, Downing, Carol wasnt moneyball. The only thing they got right was the british bit! And if this is the best talent no wonder the national team hasnt won the proverbial pig shit in the last 5 decades!

How FSG let an unproven manager dictate that he wont work under a football director like Louis Van Gaal -tells me that in reality FSG dont have much of a clue either about where they are going.

People scoffed at the Carling Cup victory last year - I fear we wont even get that this year.
