Over the last 24 hours, Bologna mercenary star Gaston Ramirez has revelled in telling the world how rich he'll be after joining Southampton. According to the Uruguayan, the transfer is a done deal, but Bologna's President doesn't share that view, and he's very unhappy with the 'premature' triumphalism of Ramirez and his Agent.
When asked about the improbable move to Southampton, Ramirez showed that, like most footballers, he's only really in it for the money. He said:
"It is an offer that you cannot refuse. They will give me so much money! There are only a few details to sort out, but they have found the agreement in principle and the English club have reached an agreement with me
Ramirez's mercenary glee may be short-lived though, and it seems like he'll have to wait a bit longer before he can start lining his pockets with Southampton's money. According to Bologna supremo Albano Guaraldi, the Italian club has NOT accepted the Saints' offer. In an interview this evening, he barked:
"The offer we received has not been considered suitable. His agent has already reached an agreement with the English club, but we haven’t. I maintained my consistency and refused the bid"
Guaraldi was particularly upset by the behaviour of Ramirez and his Agent. He raged
"I am irritated because one of my players spoke as if he were already at another club, when there still isn’t any agreement. I don’t understand why Gaston said those things. I won’t even get into the behaviour of his agent. All negotiations can collapse, which is why I consider the player’s attitude to be premature"
So there you have it: the Ramirez deal to Southampton is off. In any event, it was obvious when the story broke that it was nonsense. There's no way Bologna would sell Ramirez for £11.8million, especially when the club has repeatedly maintained that the bidding would start at €20m. Indeed, only a couple of weeks ago, Bologna vice-president Maurizio Setti reiterated:
"For Ramirez, the negotiations start with at least €20m. The biggest interest has come from the Premier League and the Bundesliga. Ramirez is a player who will make a difference to any team because he is a born champion"
Unless the Saints up their offer considerably, it's doubtful that Ramirez will end up at Southampton, which means he'll be back on the market, giving Liverpool another opportunity to sign him.
However, after the Uruguayan's crass display of self-serving greed, do Liverpool fans still want him?

No thank YOU good sir!
ReplyDeleteOf course we need him... Those quotes have been forced to up interest...
ReplyDeleteYes
ReplyDeleteI suspected this guy was dodgy after the reports today, i knew he didn't smell right! i have posted only a couple of hours ago on another web site that Southampton may be doing us a favor, my instinct was right it seems!
ReplyDeleteSo he said he wanted money instead of covering it up with what we want to hear. What an idiot, indeed. How dare he spontaneously says what all the players do. Not players, everyone! I work solely for money. It's work for them, and I don't blame them a bit. Just because we support our team doesn't mean they are supposed too. There are few cases, of course, but if a "mercenary" plays his heart out on the field for money and win us games, bless him!
ReplyDeleteHell to the noooo. Nasri played that game with Manchester clubs and united said no. There is nothing wrong with wanting to have more money we all want more but at the same time you need to keep your dignity.
ReplyDeleteNO WAY
ReplyDeleteits obviously bullshtie if kanwar is writing about it
ReplyDeleteHis style of play may fit into Rodgers way of thinking but his character is another issue!
ReplyDeleteShould the first thing a prospective new player spews from his mouth be, 'they will give me so much money'?
We probably cooled our interest a few weeks back when we took it to the next level...
Don't get me wrong that seam's to be the M.O of most footballers, more annoyed at his first choice of words...
All this stinks of a ''Look, look, I'm signing for this club so other interested clubs better make a move for me and offer the cash soon'' plea!! Engineered by his agent, who has become pretty desperate in recent weeks.
ReplyDeleteWas he ever an option for us?
ReplyDeleteQuotes from agents are worthless.
Any comments on Rio being found guilty of making a comment that included a reference to ethnic origin, colour or race?
Those comments have been mis-translated. I'm assuming you've checked Italian sport news? Hmm...not likely! You'll get the real story there. And Ramirez himself has said the deal is not yyet done. There is still negotiating to be done. They want 4m more in add-ons. "The situation is much more complicated than he thinks. It’s not just
ReplyDeleteabout figures, but seeing what is included and what isn’t,” said the
President on Sky Sport 24.
“The offer we received has not been considered suitable. His agent has
already reached an agreement with the English club, but we haven’t. Now
the situation is static, we made our demands and will see what happens."
I see you "forgot" that part. Bologna have told Saints what they want for him. Southampton are the 5th richest club in the PL. Anything is possible for us. This article is pure jealousy.
If these comments are true than he really belongs at Mercenary city or CSKA London.
ReplyDeleteHe's got talent but we know now he's motivated by money and how many years will it take for him to want to move if he comes here
ReplyDeleteIf you think footballers dont move for just money you must be naieve
ReplyDeleteYes Jake, I think you are right, Southampton fans know if it's not on the official site it's not true, so I don't think any Saints fans will be surprised at the outcome
ReplyDeleteLike the other obscure mid table teams, the only way Liverpool will sign decent players is by offering more money than the top clubs. They won't be joining you for love! So stop the dilission
ReplyDelete"The English club has reached an agreement with me, it is the classic offer that you cannot refuse for my life as a whole and MY FAMILY."But they believe in me in every way, I will be essential and above all they are going to grow. Southampton is a newly promoted team in the English top-flight but they will become a big team in years to come.
ReplyDelete"They have told me they are going to build and that is very stimulating."
In his defense, he may well be making the move for his family's sake. Since he probably comes from a poor background I wouldn't blame him for wanting to support his less advantaged family. In being honest about the money factor, I believe he's honest when he says that he's been swayed by how he will be integral to the team and how Southampton are going to grow.
Give the kid a break!
In the games I have seen him play (Ramirez)....I must admit he seems very arrogant....huffs and puffs and blames others for his own mistakes...another Adam Johnson he to thinks he is better than he really is....and it showed in his England performance
ReplyDeleteSorry, but what does 'Dillision' mean? If you insist on commenting on an LFC forum, at least learn how to to spell. Otherwise f*@k off!!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you've taken the quotes and added your own to it, may as well say, "yes I agreed terms with Southampton because they are much better than Liverpool, why would I sigh for a team that spends 35m on a shite striker and get Downing and Henderson in to support him" scousers, who'd have them!
ReplyDeleteWhat ever McDonalds worker.
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong if Player said that, all of us are working for money and also to get best benefit for our self and family , what happen his family really need the money ,and do you know how much his getting now?
ReplyDeleteWe need him.
didnt smell tights lol
ReplyDeletedidnt smell right lol
ReplyDeletejourn,s journo,s journo,s... u tell us this and u tell us that....i'd love him at liverpool and any1 who says they wouldn't are kidding themselves,,,, YNWA JFT96
ReplyDeletehe didnt smell right lol
ReplyDeleteWoW you are stupid. Nothing else to say here. Just have a look at the quotes and google them. Then you will see where they come from.
ReplyDeleteYou have to remember with forums:
ReplyDeleteA. It is worldwide this may be Neil's second or third language.
B. You could be replying to a 5 year old
Judging by his or her comment with regards to joining Liverpool I suspect we are dealing with a young child who has a very low educational level.
Cheers
sad about pep segura if its true he has left the club.hope BR knows what he is doing because if it dosent work out with him we will be left with a club devoid of any management structure. Thanks Pep and good luck for the future
ReplyDeleteWoW ! What a brilliant response mate. I have no other words to say. There is just nothing else to respond to you.
ReplyDeleteJamie, do you know if the Pep rumour is actually true?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is true.
ReplyDeleteOf course not - no 8 match ban, £45k fine, that'll teach him (my arse) - he's manure not Suarez.
ReplyDeleteAlot of very naive comments on this website. If a player does not adore Liverpool for birth, wants a good contract or considers other clubs he is called mercenary. Stupid mindset.
ReplyDeleteI only partially agree.
ReplyDeleteI do think players are WORKING - meaning they have to earn their paycheck.
BUT in football you can't play without putting your heart on the field. That is the main difference between good and great players. For example, Berbatov is undoubtfully talented, but he definetly do not put his heart out like Tevez or Suarez.
If you don't play with your heart you end up like Torres - a mercenary who have nothing to play for, since he's been earning his money anyway.
you say hes been swayed , more like brainwashed into thinking southhampton are going to become a big team in years to come , and to say some ones honest in bragging about how much money they are going to get is bs in my eyes , you cant tell me he wouldnt of been on a decent wage at bologna in the first place , and you cant tell me that spurs wouldnt of offered him a decent wage as well if hed sighned for them , and they are a big club ,sorry to say hes a greedy monger in my eyes theres plenty of people out there who come from poor back grounds , who live in starvation every day , and would love to have the money he was getting even at bologna , he fails to realize the majority of the fans that walk through the turn gates every week and pay his wages come from average income homes , and you say give him a break ,what a load of crap ,maybe he should prove him self to those fans before he brags of how much money hes getting of them every week
ReplyDeleteYou say he's been bragging about how much money he will earn, but in the quote I've made, all he says is that it's an offer he cannot refuse. Does that really sound like bragging about the bags of money he will earn? To any rational person, not really.
ReplyDeleteMy source was skysports news and I deem it quite reliable. However I don't know who Jaimie's source was and if indeed it's reliable, I will be more than happy to eat my humble pie. Until then, I will stand by what I said.
yeah we all work solely for money ,but we dont all get the money he would get a week , he hasnt even proven him self on the field in the premier league yet and to openly brag about the money hes getting from the people that actually do support the club is to me a bit over the top ,specially when them supporters struggle to make ends meet every week just so they can go watch their team play
ReplyDeletehe'll only stay around for one season till city brings a bigger paycheck
ReplyDeleteGaston does not seem like an ambitious player. Why would a player of his caliber want to move to Southampton, a team just promoted to PL. (No offence to the Saints) This guy is just plain greedy. We don't need a player with an attitude.
ReplyDeleteRodgers has always stressed that mental attitude is vital in his players.
And Ramirez is lacking in that department.
I don't think he was even a target by Rodgers.
We in Liverpool take pride and hardwork as the most important elements of a liverpool player, we then could give you all the salary you want when you have delivered.
ReplyDeleteAll this article shows is how selective quoting can sway peoples point of view. Well done sir, you should work for a tabloid!
ReplyDeleteBarsiem@hotmail.com
FWIW you maybe right. He may only be motivated by money. But he has also said its important for him to play week in week out at this stage of his career, something that he may not get at this Liverpool or spurs. He also says hes impressed with the club & its ambition, again nothing wrong there even if it maybe misguided. Who are you to judge that though? All I see is some petty sniping at a club you really shouldnt be too concerned about. Poor sshow
I would be totally fine in signing him if he would show the same allegiance to Liverpool for our money if we are ready to pay him to that effect. So Gaston whats your call?
ReplyDeletepoint is we dont need him becouse his wages would be too big, and we are trying to avoid that kind of players-look at our signings. borini and allen came in becuse of rodgers, not money, and the youngster from holland is surely not making millions. and yes he is arrogant...
ReplyDeleteIts obvious, that LFC Didin`t have the money, to purchase Ramirez otherwise he would have been at Anfield by now, So as much as we wanted him here, It was never in Brenden Rodgers`s plan, so lets be happy with who we have, and who we might get coming in, before this transfer window closes. RedMan4Life.
ReplyDeleteI get why you think it's just for the money but do you not think Liverpool could match the £30k pw Saints are offering? To someone that grew up with a very simple life £30kpw will change his and his families life. I think it's refreshing to hear someone with so much talent being rewarded reasonably when you have players not signing new astronomical contracts of £100k because they want £150k, I don't think his statement takes anything away from his character what would your recation be if you won the lottery?
ReplyDeleteSo Ramirez is only after the money which makes him a mercenary lol. 99 % of players are to be fair. Fair play to Ramirez for at least being honest. How come sigurdson chose to go to spurs instead of us ? I'm sure RVPs excuse for going to man u is to win trophies but has he taken a wage loss or us he even on the same as what he was on at arsenal ? Is he ell . He wouldn't of left arsenal if man u said were pay you the same as what your on now mate.we've just tripled Allens wages but why ? Surely he's come to us to win trophies not more money lol. I could go on and on but bottom line is there all in it for the money. Rooney is a school boy everton fan. Every boys dream to play for a club you support so how come he left for man u ? Surely he wanted to stay and help the club he loves to win trophies ?obviously money had nothing to do with it because only Ramirez is like that lol
ReplyDeleteYour talking a load of rubbish to be fair Scouser from Montenegro . You really believe that money had nothing to do with Allen coming to Liverpool ? If that's the caseand Rodgers was the reason then why do we give him triple what he was on at Swansea ? I don't get it . He's here purely because of Rodgers and nothing to do with the money so why did we not just give him the same wage he was on at Swansea (£15,000) a week ?that was really stupid of Liverpool to triple his wages wasn't it when according to you surely he would of signed whatever surely cause Rodgers was his reason for coming .funny that sigurdson also said he wanted to come to Liverpool so he could work with Rodgers again.Oh no I've just remembered another club came in and offered him more money and that was the end to him really wanting to work under Rodgers lol. Dont be so naive mate. Allen is welsh and was playing for Swansea since he was 9 . If I was to ask you which club would you play for if you had the choice which team would you pick ? The club you support I would of thought ?so if it is not about the money then every pro player would want to be playing for the team they support surely ?Rooney is an Everton fan yet he moved to man u. sorry I forgot it was for trophies not the money lol. Bet he got a wage rise though.course it's about the money , why do you think negotiations go on for a while when players are getting offered new contracts ?
ReplyDeletedidnt say money had nothing to do with allen coming, or borini, but they have other reasons and rodgers can motivate them more easily than gaston. i understand wages define where will they go, not that naive, its just that he looks like a player that only cares about that aspect of his career. and at bologna he really looked very, i mean very arrogant and not caring for team. suarez is even more arrogant but much much better player and far more dedicated to teammates and club. and please dont talk with me like im stupid, you can explain your point of wiew without arrogancy, i knew all the things you said just dont see him fitting in that easily. and even if he is seventeen i think raheem is better solution.
ReplyDeleteget ahold of yourselfs, it was a twitter rumour. who says he said so. did he have a press release saying so
ReplyDeleteit was a twitter rumour show the press release where he comes out and say what the twitter rumour suggests
ReplyDeleteIt was not a twitter rumour. Ramirez's comments were reported by every respected football news provider on the planet, and Southampton's manager even commented on Ramirez's statement. Do some research, and stop making things up.
ReplyDeleteok, but other, far more important, negative things are true. he does blame others for his mistakes, he didnt even apologise to suarez for obvious mistake he made vs gb for instance... you may say thats not important, but it is...
ReplyDeleteyes he is class and after that 3-0 loss bring him ASAP
ReplyDeleteSounds like the carlosTevez story to me
ReplyDeleteBet if he had joined LFC on the same terms you wouldn't be complaining.
ReplyDeleteIf Gylfi was passed over for greed, I don't fancy Ramirez's chances!
ReplyDeleteIn context, he thought he was choosing Saints over Spurs or Liverpool for an extra few grand a week, even though in the long run Spurs or Liverpool would have been able to offer him significantly higher wages, had he bided his time and established himself. It would also seem that he would be happy to turn down the advances of teams where he would have been surrounded by a higher calibre of player, with myuch higher aspirations, just for a few extra quid now.
ReplyDelete
