Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the Reds are officially in negotiations with Swansea over the signing of Welsh midfielder Joe Allen, who reportedly handed in a transfer request this morning.
Speaking to Reporters at around 10:15pm tonight after Liverpool's victory over FC Gomel, Rodgers reiterated that he was still in the market for more players, and he also provided a positive update on the Reds' pursuit of Allen:
"The clubs [Liverpool and Swansea] were speaking today.
"We've got permission from Swansea [to speak to Allen] and we've agreed a fee, but there's still work to do on the deal"
Allen was in the Director's Box at Anfield to watch the FC Gomel game:
Responding to Rodgers' comments, Liverpool legend John Aldridge observed:
"I'm pretty sure that negotiations from today and tomorrow will tie him [Allen] up. It's just a bit of a formality now. I've spoken to Rushie about him many times and he really rates him. I think he'll only enhance Liverpool's chances of getting into the top four".
I think we can safely assume that Joe Allen will become a Liverpool player in the next 48 hours.
Great stuff!

Welcome boy, hope you end up closer to Alonso than Adam.
ReplyDeleteGood luck - take the No. 6 or No. 12 jersey.
Good player can't wait until we have finished all are transfer dealings welcome joe! YNWA
ReplyDeleteWhy do your headlines always read as "..LFC star says..", "LFC bids...agree?". Why can't you include the names of those involved? It's as if you can't draw viewers otherwise. This is on par with the " learn one weird trick to..." adverts. Really annoying and as far as I am concerned I am not going to visit this site until the headings are proper. Of course this is a free country but just giving you feedback on your site.
ReplyDeleteit will be good news if and hopefully when liverpool sign him but I think you are playing with words there slightly, aren't you Jamie? He said that they must have ageed a fee, not "they have agreed a fee"... Slight but significant difference
ReplyDeleteMarket* Second paragraph. Second line. Not meaning to nit pick :P
ReplyDeleteNot excited about Allen. I wanted to see a wide player. Now LFC need to move on Spearing and Adam. Henderson might be worried now as he can't get games now, as Shelvey looks ahead of him. Hopefully LFC are going to sign another 2-3 player. Someone who can create and score goals.
ReplyDeleteRodgers says "We've agreed a fee" in bold...
ReplyDeleteDo we really need Allen? In a 4-3-3 isn't Lucas taking Allen's place? Or is it Lucas, Allen, Gerrard as our new midfield? Or are we aiming to play 4-1-3-2 with Lucas sitting and a midfield trio of Downing, Allen, Gerrard?
ReplyDeletebold is done by the editor, the same person who by mistake wrote Marker for Market.

Yes, the editor wrote that part in bold because he wanted it to stand out. And yes he made one typo. We knew both of these things. Tell us something new :L
ReplyDeleteI think he'll be a great signing. I know gomel isn't a great side but the way we played tonight i dnt think we need to much. Poviding we keep carroll and agger.ccaoimhe17@hotmail.co.uk
ReplyDeleteId like to c a bit of competition for enrique maybe even promote robinson and a winger with a bit of pace and flare.
don't think dempsey will be coming
ReplyDeleteI copied and pasted it from a previous post forgot to take him out lol. Hopefully downing steps up 2 the plate. Doubt it tho.
ReplyDelete15m tho is to much in my opinion. When you see guys like marco reus who scored 21 goals and got 10 assist last season getting signed for 17.5m EUROS.
ReplyDeleteI think its our own fault tho because we paid over the odds for carroll, henderson and downing. All clubs now are going to use that against us.
I hope we get another very quick striker but if not :-

Do not play down this win,Gomel are a good team.
ReplyDeleteThey were very unlucky in the first leg.But last nite
the reds were great, the way they pressurised Gomel,
gave them no time on the ball, also very impressed
with our fitness, saying its still pre-season.
Way overpriced very average player good passing stats because every pass is sideways or backwards and less then 10 yards. We should use that cash for a truly worldclass forward or winger just can't see how allen is better then what we have
ReplyDeleteThe paying over the odds days are over,
ReplyDeleteJoe Allen is a very important part of
Brendans plan thats why he is willing
to pay 15m.
At Swansea, Allen was pulling the strings from midfield. Yes, he is a good signing. We will have more depth in the midfield department. Brendan has a good pool of players to work with. He doesn't need to make wholesale changes to the team. Just need some strategic additions here and there.
ReplyDeleteLove the way Liverpool played against Gomel. Good to see them playing higher up the field and pressing for lost balls. I think LFC will do good in the coming season.
Downing is actually a good player. He will do good under Brendan's playing style.
ReplyDeleteWe can all say the fee seems a bit much, but if BR considers him that important to help embed his style of play through the rest of the team (right from the heart of midfield with Lucas and Gerrard supporting...), the the fee is the fee cause that's what it took to activate his get out clause.
ReplyDeleteI think he'll do well and hopefully we'll all be saying what a good piece of business it was at the end of the season YNWA
I think Brendan rated this player better than Sigurdsson, Brendan refuse the wage of Sig but he is willing to pay more for Allen. When a big club like us come to the market price will always high and we have to be proud of that. it shows on what level our club is.... Other club rates us as big club always....
ReplyDelete3 at the back
ReplyDeletei would love see 2 more trickery player
ReplyDeletedon't want him
ReplyDeleteIf Buck Rodgers rates him' then we should back the manager. Any new signing would be better than the flops signed last season. The Boy is 22 now. I would say that is good business. He should double the value in 2 years.
ReplyDeleteTime to offload Adam and Spearing.
ReplyDeleteIf he was coming on a free I would.
ReplyDeletewe are getting one of the best cm's around, and the haters will be eating their words within a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteAllen is a superb player who will combine beautifully with lucas.
if last night is anything to go by, its going to be an exciting season with some beautiful flowing play. COME ON THE REDS
