A couple of hours ago, Liverpool put in an improved bid for Fulham striker Clint Dempsey in an attempt to head off a late surge of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Well, it seems that Martin Jol is exacting vengeance of the Reds for allegedly 'tapping up' Dempsey as Fulham have rejected the bid.
Earlier today, Fulham accepted a £7m bid from Aston Villa, but Dempsey refused the move as he's determined to join Liverpool.
If the Reds' bid matched or exceeded Villa's, and it was still rejected, then it's definitely a display of petty vindictiveness from the West London club.
Having said that, let's hope that Liverpool are not trying to lowball Fulham at this stage of the game; just pay the money and get it over with!
Fulham reported Liverpool to the Premier League last week claiming Dempsey had been tapped up, and Jol slammed the player for speaking publicly about his wish to move on.
Dempsey grabbed 28 goals and 7 assists for Fulham and the USA last season. Jol is playing hardball, but I'm sure the Reds will prevail in the end.
The saga continues...
EDIT 1: 20:40pm
An LFC Reporter just stated the following on LFC TV:
"It's looking increasingly unlikely that Liverpool will sign anyone else before the transfer deadline. Brendan Rodgers has gone home, and Ian Ayre is preparing to leave Melwood"
EDIT 2: 21:30pm
According to The Times, Dempsey is at Spurs' training ground for a medical. What a friggin' joke.
EDIT 3: 22:30pm
Dempsey signs for Spurs. *shoots self*

ReplyDeleteWhy shouldn't Liverpool low-ball the whole way? Clint's going to reject a move to anywhere but LFC, and are Fulham really prepared to have a disgruntled veteran sitting on their bench all year?
ReplyDeleteCome on Ayre!
ReplyDeleteIf we did low ball them then we deserve all that we get!
ReplyDeleteDempsey in any other year of his contract would command a fee of
10 million +!!!
He could give Liverpool 4 good years and at how much???
We will look stupid again as the inevitable is we will increase our bid!!
Spurs to nick in and grab him for the sake of 1 million or so...
WTF!!!!!
Pretty risky strategy with 4 hours of the transfer window remaining.
ReplyDeletesource?
ReplyDeleteThey accepted 7m from Villa so why should they accept less from Liverpool? That said, Liverpool shouldn't pay more than that either, if Fulham keep the player they will get nothing from him so may as well sell.
ReplyDeleteEqually, if we sign no one having let Carroll go I for one will change the habit of 40+ years and give the manager dogs abuse on Sunday.
Agree Dempsey is 50/50 now that Spurs have shown interest, we are the last team Jol would like to see Dempsey at.
ReplyDeleteSturridge deal also off I reckon, otherwise he would not be on the Subs bench for Chelsea 2nite in the Supercup. Impossible for him to sign from there.
My own source. Wait for a while and other sites will report the same.
ReplyDeleteYou mke 1 mil sound cheap....I could almost top up my oyster!
ReplyDeleteTalksport radio and Skysports
ReplyDeleteThis is getting worrying...its getting pretty late in the day to get a few proven goal scorers on the books...the later and later we leave it the more desperate we will become and opportunistic Chairmans/Managers (ahem MA, MJ) will attempt to line their pockets/kitty's at our expense. I know the funds are a supposed question mark, but how are QPR and Southampton securing big name players for the here and now and we're still trying to rebuild for the future by signing them young? (although, agreed that this is needed too). Really hope its not another painful season for us...we seem to get stitched up when we try and bolster the squad in Jan.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, really hope we can get our first league win of the season on Sunday. YNWA.
Jol being an ex Spurs would rather he go to us over them.
ReplyDeletehe was villified at White Hart lane!!!
jamie thank god your not my bizness advisor, if we dont get him now we get him in 6 months time. ball is in liverpools court. if me 6 mil. 3 mil now and 3 mil add ona. take it or leave it.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that if LFC come with an accaptable offer, Fulham would not accept it until just about a deal can be struck. Quite immature from Fulham if so, but I think there is an element of truth to my thinking because Fulham would be stupid to play hard ball, only to then lose him for a free the following season. I think they are holding out just to drag it on and make it uneasy for Dempsey and us, and once it this is done, they would accept our bid and it would be one big rush for us to sign him. When somebody rushes to buy something, chances are they will over-spend. Case in point Andy Carroll.
ReplyDeleteMartin Jol: dirty, stinking, back-stabbing, smelly, Dutch git
ReplyDeleteExcept for the fact that fulham have denied rejecting a bid - good research fella.
ReplyDeletehttp://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1147725?cc=5739
Fulham have just denied that there's been any bid from LFC.
ReplyDeleteFayed has had it in for Liverpool ever since Hodgson left. He is a sorry human being.
ReplyDeletetalk about panic stations .it this kind of hysteria which made the reds pay over the odds for carroll and co ....hold your guns and don't pay over the odds if they come they come if they don't they don't its refreshing that lfc at least have some kind of strategy this time round
ReplyDeleteESPN are reporting that Liverpool have not had bids rejected
ReplyDeletehttp://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/167805.html?CMP=OTC-RSS
Fulham have not denied it; 'Insiders' allegedly close to Fulham have denied it. There is a difference.
ReplyDeletelove it first offer 4.5 mil lol
ReplyDeleteJust heard we have had no such offer rejected!!!
ReplyDeleteProbably because there was no offer, Calm down, calm down!
This is the very reason i like the transfer window!
ReplyDeleteJust like having a birthday everyday otherwise.
That is not true. Read the ESPN story properly - it has no substance. And as I said above, ESPN also reported that Fulham had rejected an LFC bid. Sky Sports have also reported on the rejected bid.
ReplyDeleteIf someone actually connected to Fulham said there'd been no bid then that would be a different story.
The idea that LFC have not bid on Dempsey with 3 hours of the transfer window remaining is just total nonsense.
Apparently everton are trying to get essien
ReplyDeleteHow could you possibly say 'the idea that LFC have not.......is just total nonsense'? What if it turns out to be true that there's not been a bid? I think you should be a lil cautious and humble with you communications. Cheers
ReplyDelete5 Live are saying rejected bid was £4.5m, so nothing to do with revenge, just LFC trying to get as cheap as possible. Compromise being worked on.
ReplyDeleteWhat has being 'humble' got to do with it? LFC's interest in Dempsey is well established. Fulham have even filed a complaint over alleged 'tapping up'. Tom Werner has gone on record stating that he's an admirer of Dempsey. By all accounts, Dempsey is LFC's top target, and we're expected to believe that the club has not made a bid with 3 hours of transfer window left open?
ReplyDeleteDoes that sound likely to you?
Additionally, lots of reputable sources reported earlier today that both Spurs and LFC had lodged bids for Dempsey? Were they all wrong too?
Not likely. LFC have made a bid for Dempsey, irrespective of what ESPN says.
So if ESPN sources are garbage, what are yours Jamie?
ReplyDeleteIn this case, my source is correct. Other reputable news providers are also reporting that Fulham rejected LFC's bid, including the BBC.
ReplyDeleteunless Dempsey ends up hating us for not buying him now. Its happened before
ReplyDeleteI was referring to use of such words as 'nonsense' . Yes and when i say humble I know what am talking about. When people run this kind of forum they've got to be open to ther people's ideas, posts etc rather than acting like some monopoly of knowledge. Cheers
ReplyDeleteWith respect, you misinterpret my post. When I say 'total nonsense', I am referring to the *information*, not the person. The info being imparted is not someone's opinion, it is info relayed by ESPN, i.e. a news story.
ReplyDeleteI can call a news story total nonsense if I want.
Perhaps you should not look for things that aren't there.
That's the point exactly. On some ocassions he has quoted un-named sources himself with regards to LFC news and am wondering what people should make of those previous posts. I think we need to always leave room for error rather than sounding like we know more than everyone
ReplyDeleteand your tapping up septic owners are not a sorry bunch?
ReplyDeleteThe way we are behaving is not helping the situation wouldnt surprise me to see him end up been a Tottenham player or just stay were he is, i have a feeling we may have upset Fulham once to many times now and there just going to get more and more difficult knowing that he is slowly becoming the only target left for us, so whos to say they wont get what they want? They know we need to replace Carroll
ReplyDeletejamie, whys there a picture of a girl squating under your article lol
ReplyDeleteIf this is right lfc should match the villa offer
ReplyDeleteHave they rejected Tottenhams?
ReplyDeleteif it was man utd trying to sign dempsey, they would have kissed there arse and mugged him away to them. its getting a joke we have to pay over the odds for some the players we have accuired or trying to.
ReplyDeletedempsey is a gem though, destroyed us last season.............like carroll did the season before that !!!!!!!!! lol
Fulham are trying to punish us with there pathetic report about us supposedly tapping up a player who made it clear he wanted to leave.
ReplyDeleteMartin Jol is being ARSEY
maybe the club dont have funds to play anything but low ball, but sure you know better from your recent article saying rodgers does not need to sell in order to buy
ReplyDeleteonly one question is were is dempsey. i think we shoulf all guess the price we are gonna get him for.
ReplyDeletemy guess 6 mil
Just confirmed on lfc tv that very unlikely anyone will be signed tonite. If this is the case then surely we should have brought someone in before getting rid of players...especially carroll. Please tell me i gonna wake up any minute and realise it was a bad dream. Apary from suarez where the hell are the goals going to come from??? Calling euston we have trouble...
ReplyDeleteReport from the BBC that the deal for Dempsey is on the brink of collapse.
ReplyDeleteWe are screwed.not goner be anywhere near top 4! Rodgers has done it himself by letting Carroll go. No signings either??? Stupid!
ReplyDeleteTheir been cheap and its becoming a joke, i understand about past mistakes but jesus christ WTF is going on!
ReplyDelete£4million we bid!! we have let him down as he has waited for us... he as made it clear he wants to come to us a clearly as he can and we have behaved like complete idiots!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe we are not going to sign anyone. Our squad is under strength and we need a striker. What if Suarez get banned for a lengthy time or injured? I can see Borini misfiring throughout the season.
ReplyDeleteNot looking good. Clearly we don't have the money.
We just been shafted by FSG who have not given enough money to buy the players.
ReplyDeleteFSG's good will period has officially ENDED
If we don`t sign anyone it is madness. Still we have shaved something like 25mil off the wage bill I think, might even be a bit more. The striker thing tho really bugs me. I think BR knows we needed one, but powers above didnt make it happen. If you look at his interviews yest and today he was clearly saying get me players now. Complete rubbish that we let AC go and not sign a new striker.
ReplyDeleteAll this "but spain dont use strikers" stuff is also rubbish, firstly they do, and secondly we arent spain. We arent made up of the best attacking players the planet has right now. So yes we needed a Striker. LS is pants at scoring, and Borni isnt`t imo going to get 20 goals. LS should be used on the right where he plays best. So a Striker was needed. If AC had stayed it made sense, but now hes gone. Madness
When the tap up - sorry, the expressed interest - was first mooted Liverpool fans appeared dead against the idea of Dempsey as he was only a Fulham player so surely not to the standards you demand; now suddenly you want him! Surely a huge club like yours must be turning away myriad quality players rather than demean yourself with the likes of him?
ReplyDeleteI agree to an extent, but the lion's share of the shafting came from Kennian Comoglish.
ReplyDeleteEven if we don't sign anyone, I'm still happy Carroll has gone.
ReplyDeleteAt last common sense prevails ...the future of the club comes before paying over the odds for players who may not get into the team if sterling progresses as he is and the assaidi gets going whose to say dempsey or sturridge would get a game....Well done BR and liverpoool for having faith in younger players and not getting screwed by another club
ReplyDeleteActually...after thinking...maybe this is a good thing.
ReplyDeletePAY 10 MILLION NOW OR GET HIM FREE IN A YEAR ....You do math Jamie
ReplyDeleteReports are that Liverpool only offered about 4mil for Dempsey? Why would they let so many players go, freeing up cash and then not sign another goalscorer?Madness. Just consider how screwed we would be if Suarez actually gets injured, and goal-scoring isn't even his strong point. No way Liverpool will be near the top 4 if we don't get a goalscorer. In saying that, if he doesn't come I really hope we steal him from Fulham on a free-transfer when his contract expires.
ReplyDeleteborini ,sterling, and co its a team game ...maybe we should start playing that way
ReplyDeleteAbsolute nonsense. Most LFC fans wanted Dempsey all along.
ReplyDeletewe wernt anywhere near the top 4 splashing 70 million out ....rodgers is playing to a system not a player and carroll doesn't fit at least the guy has the courage of his conviction
ReplyDeleterogers stated a week ago we had a thin squad, today over the last 24 hours we have shipped out carroll, adam and spearing. People may debate their abilities but with the managers concern we had a thin squad before they left how does that leave us now. if we dont replace any of those its fair to say its been a disastrous window. letting carroll go without a guaranteed replacement is naive at best, more like incompetent.
ReplyDeleteYou were delighted when Carroll came in to replace Torres!
ReplyDeleteIf we signed a goalscorer we would of been. Tottaly pissed off. We only have Suarez an borini as strikers until January..
ReplyDeleteI just don`t get why though we haven`t signed a new striker? With only really LS and Borini able to play that role who have some experience I just cant see us getting the goals.
ReplyDeleteThere was deals out there, as other clubs lower than us signed them. Rhodes, etc. I just think we have shot ourselves in the foot here.
Its been clear in the game so far we are struggling to score AGAIN. now were one less in the striker department I can`t see that getting better
Oh, I must have misread your message boards. Anyway, looking at the posts below, you didn't want him after all,,!
ReplyDeleteThey have spent 30mil, when did that become not much money? How the money was spent is more the issue. But the amount is a lot.
ReplyDeleteThat said, £25mil saved on wages from our dealings this year, means by next summer they have almost got all there spending rec-couped
I agree with Craig - from what I've seen, lots of LFC fans wanted Dempsey all along. I know I did; I posted several articles in December 2011 and January 2012 arguing that LFC should sign Dempsey:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.liverpool-kop.com/2012/01/lfc-legend-liverpool-should-sign-this.html
very questionable strategies in each of 3 transfer windows under FSG.
ReplyDeleteBR is a politician mate. Look at who has left
ReplyDeleteCarroll, Adam, Maxi, Kuyt, Bellamy, Aurelio, Aquilani
and who comes in
Borini, Allen, Sahin). Assaidi and Yesil
work it out
not as if we couldnt afford dempsey.....
Possibly I didn't get RAWKs drift..?
ReplyDelete4 million? Not only have you tried tapping the player up, you’ve also embarrassed yourself by coming back with an absolute ridiculous offer. Seriously, between the pair of you, not only have you’ve turned this whole ordeal into a complete shambles, you now honestly think that Fulham will let Dempsey walk away for practically free. What a deluded bunch you really area. Pay up or jog on.
ReplyDeleteI agree. What's even more ridiculous is that Blackburn pay 8m for an Rhodes who is unproven at the top level, yet LFC baulk at paying 7m plus for a vastly experience and proven PL goalscorer (!)
ReplyDeleteMaybe Assaidi will weigh in with some goals? On the plus side, we may see the new guy Yesil feature more, along with Morgan, and maybe even Tiexeira.
Even with carroll we have been saying or over a year we need a proven goalscorer, so how can some people say we will be alright. Rather than being screwed by other clubs we just seem be doing it to ourselves. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO LEARN. STERLING WILL NOT BECOME JOHN BARNES OVERNIGHT....too much pressure on young and unproven heads. Apart from suarez and set pieces cannot see many goals from others.
ReplyDeleteIf you're talking about RAWK, then it wouldn't surprise me. I hate that site; and they hate me!
ReplyDeleteLots of fans did want Dempsey and I'm sure Rodgers does too. I will be very concerned if we FSG don't back him.
ReplyDeleteDo you still think the idea that Liverpool don't have much more money for transfers is paper talk and public tactics Jamie?
Dempsey has apparently signed for Spurs...
ReplyDeleteSpurs r signing him!!!!! FFS!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's another Sigurdsson situation: LFC maybe have the money, but Rodgers doesn't agree on Dempsey's value. I still totally believe that Rodgers would've signed CD if he really wanted him.
ReplyDeleteDempsey has been Spotted at Spurs ....FSG GET READY ...YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW
ReplyDeleteNo Dempsey!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!
ReplyDeleteLFC has been left behind again! BR and FSG have all spoke the words needed to give the fans hope and then basically blindsided us!!
ReplyDeleteif he signs for spurs i bet he plays out of his skin in the fixtures against us.... just like too many other players do when we piss them off.
ReplyDeletesome of you fans are in cuckoo land ....lfc where nearly bust and now there showing sense Brendan Rogers should be commended for having some balls and wavering to the same set of fans who have been harping on all year about the reds getting screwed on transfers you cant have it both ways ...some of you dolts talk of million of pounds as though its nothing
ReplyDeleteMethinks FSG better brace themselves for a backlash from the fans...
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't surprise me if there are banners on Sunday exclaiming "FSG OUT!"
if its so cheap why don't you fork the other 5 million out ....its a business not fantasy land
ReplyDeleteReading between the lines it appears Ayre's negotiations have been inept so now he is due to be a Spurs player.
ReplyDeleteIt leaves us very short up front so I don't know what Rodgers is playing at if the decision not to sign identified players is down to him!!
SO why waste all this time and get your fans expectations up with a smokescreen. The truth is your management wanted him at a lower than fair price, Villa and Spurs show interest and the panic button is pressed. But as your fans below say, you didn't want him - did you?
ReplyDeleteAyre's ineptitude doesn't surprise me; he doesn't inspire confidence (IMO)
ReplyDeleteIf Rodgers and FSG hadnt been talking about how the squad is thin and needs strengthening and even today Rodgers said he wants to sign a striker then we wouldnt complain! They shouldnt mention things if there gonna behave like complete idiots in trying to bring in players!
ReplyDeleteGood call Jaimie I never actually thought that Rogers didn't value him...The next press conference will be very interesting
ReplyDeleteYes, I wanted Dempsey! I was writing articles a year ago urging LFC to sign him.
ReplyDeleteReally? Then explain how Spurs are spending money on buying some really good players and LFC are not. Consider that LFC has a bigger ground than Spurs, a more global fanbase, better and bigger commercial sponsorship deals and yet they make the purchases and we do not.
ReplyDeletesold to spurs for 6 mil lol
ReplyDeleteNo they have to do what the did today for another 18 months then they would be trouble.
ReplyDeleteAs I stated earlier the Honeymoon period for FSG is OVER.
They will never win against the fans they should look at what happened to Ashley,H&G etc.
Does a player have to be on-location to be signed?
ReplyDeleteabsolutely gutted, think we been a laughing stock for most of the transfer season, the club are just tight, most fans believe dempsey would be a great addition, but no, we will let tottenham finish off the deal and get further ahead of us in the league..... FSG have shown me nothing...... and everton getting stronger...ffs
ReplyDeletelooks like it would have only been 6mil needed, as Spurs apparently just got him for that. from AC and Adam going we got back 5.5mil ish, surely we could have got Dempsey?
ReplyDeleteWe needed him, he scores. Liverpool don`t.
While its good some of the younger ones will get a chance, its also bad. I think to much pressure can kill younger players, I remember when Ngog was forced to play every game as our only striker when he was what 19? maybe 20? Everyone slanting him daily cause he couldnt do it, but not many can. Younger players often need to be able to be played in the right games and brought on as subs at the right time. We now don`t have that option. Like it or not Morgan if LS or Borini get injured your playing every game, then when you can`t perform us fans will label you like we did lucas as "not good enough"
no fax can sort it but its a risk if hes injured
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't surprise me if there were Rodgers out banners as well, given this farce and his abysmal start as manager.
ReplyDeleteEasy to blame FSG only but Rodgers has done a bit of a Souness here, too much too soon. Given that we were 8th last year and now have a far weaker squad the CL is looking slightly difficult!!
Allen looks decent but apart from 2 youngsters we only have Sahin who is unreliable fitness wise. I'm discounting Borini because I am assuming we must have owed Roma something as he clearly is a joke, he actually managed to make Henderson look like a world beater when he came on for him the other night.
I hope Carroll gets a hat trick tomorrow and unveils a t shirt with something like " up yours FSG and Paddy Rodgers"
The Jamie prediction curse strikes again!
ReplyDeletecan we just sign a player please cause all r lierpool fans are goin 2 murder some1 after we just got rid of adam and carrol
ReplyDeleteRodgers is doing absolutely fine. No one will be calling for his head. Well, except the small minority of idiots who also called for Roy Hodgson's head after about 5 minutes in charge.
ReplyDeleteI trust Rodgers. If it was Dalglish in charge right now, and the transfer window ended like this, I'd be worried.
Please post a link to article where I've predicted we'd sign Dempsey. I never make predictions; I merely pass along concrete info from Agents, players, managers, CEOs etc.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I challenge you to find a snippet of text from any article where I predicted LFC would sign someone. There's a search bar on the right of the page. I'm waiting :-)
Liverpool are laughing stock of the premierleague.... Sending Carroll out on loan an lose out on Dempsey over 1 million pounds...
ReplyDeleteSpurs get Dempsey for 6 mil...
ReplyDeleteI would rather have no Carroll and no Dempsey than have Carroll still at the club.
ReplyDeletethe reality is we have released players who couldnt get in the team and replaced them with players who can get in the team ..its not so bad ...
ReplyDeleteWasnt them idiots calling for Hodgsons head right though? I would be interested to hear why you trust Rodgers to if thats ok? As i wonder how when a manager clearly states the squad is weak then weakens it even further without relevant cover within the last 2 days of the transfer window can be trusted as it seems a bit stupid to me.
ReplyDeleteA lot of Liverpool fans would disagree with you. We have only two strikers. We are screwed.bottom half of the league here we come!
ReplyDeleteso we wasnt the laughing stock paying 75million out for 3 players last year ////once bitten twice shy at least there learning
ReplyDelete6m - that's 1m less than Villa's bid. I refuse to believe that LFC couldn't scrape 6m together; it's more likely that Rodgers didn't think Dempsey was worth it, and decided not to pay.
ReplyDeletei hope he scores 50 goals hes our player who we can then sell for 35milion
ReplyDeleteA lot of Liverpool fans were screaming for his head last season. I can't see why there's been such a turnaround in opinion.
ReplyDeletecouldnt put the ball in the net last season, it was obvious were we needed to strengthen. well it was to everyone except rogers and fsg. a 10 year old lfc fan would know we needed an out and out striker.
ReplyDeleteborini > carroll? what a mess.
besides that we have lost kuyt (for 1m, what idiot came up with that clause in his contract), maxi, aurelio, adam, spearing. not brought in enough cover for those either. There has been no serious effort to aim for the CL this season. the buzz word at lfc this year is consolidate. i think rogers has been stiffed today.
So Dempsey is at spurs having a medical, likely to be confirmed a short while from now, sad to miss out on him since he seemed to keen to come to Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to explain; I just have faith in Rodgers. There's something about him; he exudes competence, and there's a quiet confidence about him, just like Bob Paisley.
ReplyDeleteI love the pass and move football philosophy, and his overall approach to football, and the signings he's made so far have been very smart.
I haven't felt this confident about a manager since Dalglish was first appointed in 1986. Rodgers is the man, and he will prove it over time.
No not after wat he did at end of the season
ReplyDeleteim confused he actually offereed henderson. is he deluded? thank god henderson refused the deal. BR has gone COO COO
ReplyDeleteAnd since they followed your strategy the club have now missed out, hope you're pleased.
ReplyDeleteYou might well be right about that, tbh i wasn't overly keen on us buying Dempsey but a lot of that was because i was hoping that we'd be looking at Huntelaar instead, not sure what happened there, still time i guess but we are leaving it pretty late....
ReplyDeleteI think your right JK which makes me think Rodgers has terrible judgement as to not pay £6million for him is stupid as he is worth that all day long
ReplyDeleteI think he's doing the new broom bit, getting rid of players simply to move his own in when they are no better, but given the rank failure to sign anyone today the loan of Carroll looks appalling. We tend to support the clubs decisions regardless because we want to believe the best of them, but we look really stupid here. Rodgers crass comments in the press conference have made him look like an idiot and it's come back to bite him. 5 or 6m was totally reasonable.
ReplyDeleteThe only support I will give him over this farce is that he was hamstrung by Dalglish's abysmal record last year which has left us with Henderson and Downing. At one point today we offered Henderson plus cash for a 6/7m player. Henderson who we paid 16m for PLUS cash for a 6/7m player!!!!
Oh come on. We need a striker, but I refuse to shed tears over a 29 year old. In keeping with Spurs' policy of buying at any age - ie RVDV. Let them get on with it.
ReplyDeleteWell, if we don't sign anyone im going to have to hold my hand up and say i got it wrong yesterday, my initial optimism that we would splash some cash and that the Club might have been playing a low profile on the business side of things looks to have been nothing more than wishful thinking.
ReplyDeleteYou people need to relax, Champions legue was unlikely this year and I don't think, Carroll, Adam, Bellamy, Kuyt, Maxi etc would have made the difference. BR is working on a system and won't buy or keep players who don't fit that system. On a smaller (much smaller scale) here in Brisbane (Australia) our new coach came in sold big name players bought in unknowns played his system and won the league 2 years running, playing his system. BR has a long term plan, I will have a problem if nothing improves after 3 years not 3 months
ReplyDeleteGutted....today started so brightly with links to Dempsey, Sturridge and even Huntelaar and in the end signed not 1 player today. Dissappointed
ReplyDeletegood comment john ...i cant believe some of the morons on here who just want rodgers to sign a striker for the sake of it wether he fits the style of play or not .....one reply 35million ...still though i hope we didnt offer henderson as a swap as hes confidence will now plummit
ReplyDeleteAgree. Jobsy. Dempsey is clearly worth 6m.
ReplyDeletethats a strange one if true ...unless it was a lone deal
ReplyDeleteAnd by offering Henderson he now has another player who knows he's not wanted.
ReplyDeletenot sure whether loan or not to be honest but definately offered after first 4.5 mil bid. those were the two offers on table
ReplyDeletecompetence or confidence? as there very different mate, to let a striker go (and i know he were not the best striker but he was an option no other striker gives us) and then not replace him when you only have 2 left in incompetent.. but i agree he has confidence, and the pass and move philosophy is nothing new we have been doing it for years, he didnt even create the way swansea play they have played that way for years to, i like him but if i am honest i think we rushed into his appointment as he like Carroll, Adam and Henderson had only been in the premier league for 1 season and look how them 3 turned out.
ReplyDeleteTechnically we can still sign someone on loan i.e. Sturridge but as Chelsea failed to sign a forward they will keep him.
ReplyDeleteWe did and you are right, additionally we were happy to take a 10m plus loss on him.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention we are talking about Clint Dempsey, if we missed out on Lionel Messi I might be a bit upset, but Clint Dempsey ?????.
ReplyDeleteBahahaha Liverpool are such a joke club! Laughing stock of the premier league! Welcome to Spurs Clint!
ReplyDeleteHa ha Dempsey at Spurs. Let's all laugh at Liverpool
ReplyDeleteGilstrap our many has spent weeks trying to get rid of carol and has complained about lack of depth after buying two midfield players and a striker, says another striker is his priority and after raising or saving more than 10 mil cant even get a striker in.
ReplyDeleteamount saved spearing 6 months wage
carol 6 mil incuding 1 mil loan fee
adams 8 mil included his his wage for year
id say all adds up to 15 mil at least for this year.
I agree that no one should be freaking out about this but it does raise some pretty awkward questions that is IF we don't sign anyone today to strengthen our forward line.
ReplyDeleteBasically if we were not going to bid for another striker other than Dempsey then surely we should have made sure that we got him....
This won't sit well with the fanbase, a large percentage of which wanted Dempsey for obvious reasons....his stats were impressive for last season and 6 mil is not really a lot of money...
Fact is BR has gone on record saying we could see 1 or 2 more players coming in....so no matter how anyone tries to spin it that is going to create an air of dissapointment....factor in that Carroll was becoming quite popular also so naturally people will feel that this is a bit of a fcuk up....
At this stage it matters not whether we have done good or bad business, what matters is that we have to face another season after a somewhat dissapointing transfer deadline....
Questions will be asked about the owners and their willingness to spend money to makes us more competitive, questions also will be asked about BR's role in all this....
To be frank, its the last thing we needed, if Dempsey was our target then we should have coughed up, simple as that, thus avoiding much of this dissapointment and strengthening our forward line...
Carroll came back from alot of critcism last year...finshing on a high for england and considering how his career started with LFC ended on a positive towards the end of the EPL. That shows not just ability but mental strength. He came on the other day against man city for just a few minutes and instantly played a great one two with sterling so he can play on the deck and gives us an option interms of plan B. You seemed assured we are better off without him Jamie, so are you a proven goalscorer having a medical at Melwood??? I guess not.
ReplyDeleteamateur, disgraceful, disgusting and heads must roll. lfc mis-management again makes us a laughing stock. if fsg don't want to invest, sell up and fu*k off. we are in the sh*t now, striker-wise. it hurts to say but we may need to give michael owen a call as cover. ian ayre and the rest, hang your heads in shame over this debacle. over two months to get things sorted. amateurs, fu*king amateurs.
ReplyDeleteyeh, what would you want with a 20 goals per season forward with premiership experience. Gilstrap has the right idea, spend nothing - bound to attract top flight players to LFC. Anyway Clint stands a better chance of playing champions league with Spurs,by the time he would have got the opportunity with you he would needed a Stannah stair lift to pick up the CL cup.
ReplyDeleteThe sheer arrogance of you Liverpool supports astounds me. Why shouldn't Fulham hold out for the best price possible? If Liverpool had offered the 7-8 million asked then you would have got Dempsey weeks ago- muppets! I know a lot of people agree with me- I think you lot we struggle for a top six finish.
ReplyDeleteLIVING IN THE PAST BOYS!
Is anyone pissed off we haven't just gone out and bought some players?!! It's obvious that these owners don't have any money! I'm very grateful that they have come in and saved us from the dark days of those two cowboys but it seems we are in a position that we have to sell to buy, Jamie can you please post what we have actually net spent (after what we have made from selling players) since they have come in? I don't want to start a witch hunt against them but I am concerned and frustraited, it looks like we have lost ramirez to southampton for 12mil, why didn't we just buy this player??! I mean what a good price, and then what the he'll is taking so long to sign Dempsey?! Just bloody buy him if we need him!!!, what is the difference between 6 and 8mill in football terms, breaking news he has just signed for spurs!! We have missed out on two great players that are cheap!! W.T.F??! I am very worried our squad is not big enough for a gruling season in the prem which may lead to no champs lege again, I would like to see these owners put their money where their mouths are! Fingers crossed we make some signings over the next few hours and I am wrong but this is a joke!! YNWA
ReplyDeleteI know mate, bad day at the office today for LFC :(
ReplyDeleteLiverpool in relegation dogfight? You heard it here first
ReplyDeleteYou call Liverpool a joke, You lot had a coach who took your club from near relegation to the top 4, played well in the champions league and played a generally appealing brand of football. Sacked him and signed a coach that took a top 2 club and turned them into a pack of arguing misfits. I'd be a lot more nervous if I was you even if you managed to sign Dempsey.
ReplyDeleteNow I know that some people are going to want to burn me at the stake for this but, if we really are in need of a backup striker, what about Michael Owen?
ReplyDeleteThe net spend is £25million this window, last year (in total) it was £36million (which was 4th highest in the league).
ReplyDeleteLiverpool are currently the 5th highest spending team in the league this window.
Look, Kenny - I know you're bitter about having your contract terminated, but get a grip, man!
ReplyDeletevery good post , im still waiting for the one one 12 months jamie promised us two weeks ago, jamie over to u mate .
ReplyDeleteWe were probably depending on Dempsey playing hardball with Fulham by refusing to go anywhere but Anfield, they would have then had to have accepted our offer.
ReplyDeleteReminiscent of Michael Owen years ago when he bottled it and went to Newcastle instead of us because he was terrified that Real wouldn't loan him to us.
Worrying that we are an injury or two away from an under 19s strike force....
But there has been money spent, Allen and Borini.
Disappointing that, having offloaded a lot of wages and gotten a fee for Adam, we haven't at least signed Dempsey :(
Totally agree, even my 3 year old has known for over a year that we needed a striker. Either FSG have no real money to spend or what we did have Kenny spent it all. I cannot believe we have let maxi, bellamy, kuyt & carroll go and not replaced with a atleast one proven goal machine. Maybe Jamie K is having a medical at melwood as we speak...
ReplyDeleteI'll try and get that net spend chart posted over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even get to the medical stage; FSG refused to cough up the £50 transfer fee!
ReplyDeleteActually LFC bid £3M for Dempsey
ReplyDeleteWe don't have 12m although we would have if he hadn't spent it on Panini or whatever his name is. Spurs have sold loads of players hence they can buy, but none of their fans would have wanted Dempsey rather than Modric 2 months ago.
ReplyDeleteFunniest thing here is that that FSG won't buy him because he has no sell on value. They spent 70m on Carroll, Downing and Henderson who whilst young also have no sell on value due to being shite.
Gutted, absolutely gutted with LFC. Fenway group offloads players from 2 teams in 2 sports on 2 continents. Anybody worried?
ReplyDeleteIs that after taking off what we made from, Kuyt, Carrol etc?
ReplyDeleteIt must be about 50m net but the wage bill has dropped massively as well.
ReplyDeleteGutted, absolutely gutted with LFC. Fenway group offloads players from 2 teams in 2 sports on 2 continents. Anybody worried?
ReplyDeleteNot even £50 quid, maybe you have a chance to get to the spurs lodge as they seem to be having a spending spree.
ReplyDeleteWhat are your thoughts Jamie, I get the feeling if we dont get anyone or a goalscorer AGAIN, we will live to regret like we did in Jan.
Just heard that Owen being a free agent could actually sign for a club AFTER this window closes.....
ReplyDeleteI certainly wouldn't object to him coming back IF we don't get anyone else in which is looking ever more likely....
If we don't buy anyone we could be in serious trouble, we have just sent out Jay and Andy on loan and sold Adam and have signed no one! What are these jokers up to? I have just read that Rogers and Ayre have gone home and we are not signing anyone, nooooooo
ReplyDeletetut tut
ReplyDeleteif they had followed my plans we would of had him for 6 mil like spurs have mate . read the posts
Can't believe Southampton got Ramirez for 12mil, why weren't we in for him, absolute bargain at that price.
ReplyDeleteMost disastrous transfer window for us ever? How many players have left this summer? 2 signings, Allen who is decent, Borini who has a long way to go. WoW, it was goals we be crying out for, no idea where they are going to come from now. Shocking, disappointing and the board has to take a long deep look at themselves over this debacle.
ReplyDeleteForgot about Assaidi, but not likely to be a 25 goal a season striker for LFC, as he's a winger anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe club was always going to do cost-cutting, as we have a high wage bill for a club that isn't in CL as well as the shocking mess that is the transfers from last season. Though I didn't think we would be as frugal as we have been and not bring in a first team squad striker. Maybe the club has had to be this frugal. Odd that Spurs and us have gone into the season so light up front, especially with both in European competition too.
ReplyDeleteSign owen on a one year deal. He can out the chances away.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you we are in this mess....
ReplyDeleteIm still watching sky sports hoping that a deal has been completed behind the scenes... Desperation! FFS, can't believe it. Wish Brendon would have stated earlier that we wern't getting anyone.
ReplyDeletewouldn't be totally surprised to see "free agent" michael owen... opinions?
ReplyDeletemmm hello no money lol
ReplyDeleteIn between injuries you mean, right?
ReplyDeleteKKenny has destroyed this club by bankrupting us....today says it all....
ReplyDeletedont worry lads Heskey and Owen are still free agents, Rodgers paying the price of King Kennys 100m spend
ReplyDeleteowners are planning a hit and run lol
ReplyDeletewe are being dried out lol
recoup and sell
wink wink
how low and desperate can u go........
ReplyDeleteSickening, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteIm sorry, but you can't blame Kenny for us not signing a 6 mil player in Clint Dempsey....
ReplyDeletenot a true relfection because you have not taken into account wages.
ReplyDeletemid table again boys. just wait for the sh*t to hit the fan when we get injuries and suspensions.......it's going to be a long 9 months, forget january, rarely do you get who you really want. if the rest of the side do not chip in with goals....mid table? just below....forget the cup competions, just concentrate on getting as high up the table as possible, i fear, not very high. i am very downhearted tonight...can you tell? bring on the press conference this weekend, i can't wait!!!!
ReplyDeleteMentality is going to be vital over the next 4 months. The pressure on the likes of Suarez and Borini to score is going to be intense, and they're going to have to rise to the challenge. I think we'll scrape through to January though; we surely can't have as much bad luck in front of goal as last season, and there will inevitably be some players who rise to the challenge.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, if the players can't handle the pressure (especially from the media, who will waiting in the wings with barely concealed glee for LFC's goalscoring drought to continue), then we're screwed.
bellemy. maxi. aquilani, adams etc
ReplyDeleteI don't really subsrcibe to the pathetic hate campaign against Owen, he was and still is a likeable fella IMO, for sure he wanted to come back but Rafa didn't want him....
ReplyDeleteYeh on pay as you play deal. He still got it just his injuries..
ReplyDeleteTotally agree!
ReplyDeleteBut the real question remains the club long-term strategy! FSG went for a football director that splashed a lot of cash on very average british players last season and then sacked the two people who wanted them at the club. So either you have enough money to give the new manager the oportunity to build a new team or your money has been spent at a very bad time (just see how much of the investment we've already lost).
So we knew had to sell to buy and as usual we did pretty bad to generate cash (the only exception to the rule beeing a £50M blue scarecrow!)
Our board sucks... But I trust BR and from what I hear HE arrived with a long-term strategy! YNWA!!!
I don't think dempsey was the answer any way....is he nota midfielder or striker and also if he was so good would he cost 6m...i think not..
ReplyDeleteWe needed some1 who is capable of 20-30goals per season and they sure as hell cost more than 6m...
That's where Kenny is to blame..
.Adam 8million...twice his true value ..ask Stoke
Henderson...20million..over twice his true value ...was offered to Fulham as part of Dempsey deal
downing...20million...is now the reserve left back and a 3million signing Morrocon is the first choice winger
Carroll...35million....no need to go there....not worth keeping even as 3rd choice ...even though we are struggling for strikers
Kenny extended Spearings contract...why??????? he is a championship player at best
As for Suarez ...most of that deal was already done before Kenny even became manager
Haha. Good summation :-)
ReplyDeleteWe have made ourselves look like absolute idiots tonight, I really think Rodgers has shown his lack of experience. We have been left with only two senior strikers to play in four competitions. What was they thinking letting Carroll go without having a bid agreed for Dempsey? Absolute amatuers, i'm disgusted.
ReplyDeleteKuyt £1M, Carroll £1M loan...
ReplyDeleteThats ridiculous Jaimie. You would rather us struggle on with only two strikers than have Carroll back. Youve just lost all credability with such a stupid statement.
ReplyDeleteWhat has happened tonight is completely down to Brendon Rogers. He has literally forced players out of the club. I understand you and some of your regulars didnt like or rate Carroll but he had found his form at the end of last season and was IMO our best striker at the Euros. He as allowed him to leave without a replacement being sorted. The squad today is considerably weaker than when BR arrived. With the exception of Allen the other signings are complete unknowns and nobody knows if Borini etc will be a success.
ReplyDeleteWe are now completely reliant on the prolific Suarez to score our goals.
I can only see us struggling.
Brendon (I will do it my way) Rodgers will bring our great club down further than it already is.
out by end of october ready for RAFAs return. A complete cock up by the owners and management team. Disgusting
another perfectly reasonable response held back again
ReplyDeleteOwen will only take up a seat in stadium and space on the doctors table!
ReplyDeleteThe plan was make and offer and say take it or leave it (hoping that Dempsey's eagerness to move would force Fulhams hand), as you said, and they didn't take it. That was the part I was referring to.
ReplyDelete
