Prade tells LFC: Pay us €30m and the new 'Francesco Totti' is yours. Overpriced?

Last week, respected Italian Newspaper Corriere dello Sport, claimed that Liverpool had put in a €22m bid for Fiorentina star Stevan Jovetic, a long-term Reds target who was, at one time, on Rafa Benitez's transfer wish-list. Alas, the Viola have moved the goalposts yet again, and it looks like the Reds could be priced out of a move.

In an interview on with Italian TV channel SportItalia yesterday, Fiorentina's sporting director Daniele Prade was asked about interest from Liverpool and Juventus, and he revealed the minimum figure the club would be willing to accept for Jovetic's signature:

"He is a top player and we will only consider offers above 30 million euros. He has the potential to become a player like (Roma icon) Francesco Totti."

"There is an agreement with the player that, should we get an offer above a certain figure, we will sit down and evaluate the offer.

"So far we have not received an offer for the player".

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admitted in a club press conference yesterday that he does not have a 'barrel-load' of money to spend, so it seems highly unlikely the the Reds would splash out such a huge fee on Jovetic.

€22m is on the cusp, but €30m? Is the Montenegrin striker even worth that much? I would argue no. Fiorentina finished 10 points above the relegation zone in Serie A last season, with Jovetic grabbing 14 goals, which is good, but not great.

Jovetic was close to a Liverpool transfer during Rafa Benitez's reign at Anfield, and since then, the Montenegrin international has been constantly linked with a move to the club..

As much as I rate Jovetic, I wouldn't want to the club to spend €30m on him.

  3. There are only a few players I would be happy the club would pay that much for. That list consist of world-class players, who have proven themselves as marvelous talents.

In my opinion, even though he might get there, Jovetic is not there yet.

Imho, I doubt anyone would even pay that much for Suarez.

  4. I would prefer Liverpool to buy one world class player than buying 3 average players. So i would be happy if we sign Jovetic for that price.

  5. Jamie whats your thoughts on Borini to Liverpool?

  6. Jovetic £15 mill (at a push) plus extra depending on future performance. There's better players at that price. Could do with a Mascherano type midfielder to protect our back four, that's where i'd spend the big money.

  7. A marvelous player, seen him play 3times, the best player on the pitch in all 3 games, and they were competitive international games. At 20mill a yes.

  8. I hope the club don't pay that money for him. To expensive.

  9. Stupid price tag, there's hardly any footballer on the globe that is worth 30 mil EUR. He is so far a one-season wonder for Fiorentina with stats nothing much better than AC. Given his nationality, he's worth the most 15 mil EUR and we are already overpaying at 22 mil EUR, let alone 30 mil EUR, IMO.

Read somewhere Arsene Wenger is interested in this player too. But that wily old fox will never ever pay such an exorbitant price for a player of this caliber. I sincerely hope BR can learn the ropes from Arsene Wenger instead of KD.

  11. Many months ago I said here that FSG would only ante up about £21M total for transfer window. I have not changed my mind and more recent comments from management confirm my belief. Now that we know the facts that we are more or less cash-strapped at L4 we see where all the next bargain basement players are coming from!

  12. That's a "we don't want to sell him" price, which is what they also say quite explicitly. It's fair enough and I think they're happy to either get the money or keep the player. We didn't overpay for Sigurdsson so we probably won't overpay for anyone else.
But still, do you really think Rodgers is going to tell the world in a press conference that Liverpool have lots of money to spend? I know we want the guy to be honest but what else would you expect him to say? He also said that he holds his cards close to his chest so why would he then go and announce that we're going to go a spending spree? Wouldn't that almost guarantee that prices go up? It's a pretty obvious negotiating tactic. Until we see Liverpool spend or not spend a certain amount of money we won't really know what the financial limitations are. I certainly doubt that some rumour you heard down the pub or a figure quoted in the daily mail is to be relied on.

  14. World class player? Jovetic is not one yet and certainly not worth 30m. Too much to pay for such a player.

  15. What a ridiculous thing to say, Messi is worth at least double 30m and closer to triple. There are a lot of players that are worth 30m. Young talent like Mario Gotze, Mesut Ozil, Neymar, Lucas Moura, even players like Toni Kroos, then there are players like Karim Benzema, Sergio Aguero, our own Luis Suarez, and this is really not even the tip of the iceberg of players who are worth 30+m

  16. Frankly, we didn't have enough revenue to have a big transfer kitty. FSG aren't going to make available money from Red Sox, we finished 8th last season, and because of that, that reflects on our transfer kitty. Just because players are bought on the cheap though, doesn't mean they are bad players. Three examples of this are Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic all were cheap buys, Ba on a Bosman, Cisse for 8m and Jelavic for 5m, all three made huge impacts.

  17. Are they crazy or what 30mil is a lot of money, and what if he's a flop like Carroll then what we sell him for a lesser fee hell no just like AC Milan if they want Carroll they must take him on a permanent basis and their Pato must come the other way then we even like that.

  18. We should b using our own talents which is waiting to impress ,so Brenden R ,I say take Sterling and Suso and put in a mix with the seniors and the results will be proof.Dont spend on expensive players when you have talent waiting for their chance . Try it

  19. 30 million are u kidding , LFC don't have that kind of money to spend maybe some cheap transfers in the 5-8 M Pounds , or some free agents yes and see where they go from here . At least BR will be given some time hopefully. I'll settle for a mid table finish again this season don't want to set my hopes too high coz theres not much to get excited about

  22. One player will not just bring instant success, we need improvement in a number of areas throughout the team. We need to get better as a TEAM & one player does not do that.
