'LFC are interested!' - Sabatini confirms move for €12m striker. Replace Carroll?

The 'on-off' Fabio Borini transfer saga seems to be back on today after Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini confirmed that Liverpool FC are definitely interested in signing Borini, who has experience of playing the Premier League through his 2011 loan deal with Swansea.

About an hour ago, Sabatini told Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport:

"There is real interest in Borini from Liverpool.

"We are evaluating things with Roma director general Franco Baldini and the club, if necessary, we will act accordingly"

During Italy's 'SportItalia' TV show last week, Italian football journalist Gianluigi Longari claimed that Liverpool had made a €12m offer for Borini.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers knows Borini well after working with him at Swansea, but despite this latest development, it seems unlikely that a deal will go through, especially given Borini's emphatic rejection of the possibility a few days ago. He said:

"I am a Roma player. It's not my business that there is talk about whether I go to Liverpool or stay. It doesn't matter to me, I am Roma"

Borini clearly feels strongly about it, so why would he change his mind so quickly?

If Liverpool fans get lucky, Andy Carroll will move to AC Milan on loan, and Borini will come in and replace him.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

  1. For some reason he looks very similar to Torres when he came. Looks like a good player. Fingers crossed!

  2. Swansea weren't in the prem when he played for them :) I'll keep the big man, I really don't know enough about this guy to say if he should come or not. Time to boot up Fifa to find out

  3. Thought, from the few games I saw, that Borini did better than Bojan. Would be surprised to see Roma let him go as its already hard for the big Italian clubs to find a young Italian striker ready for their own first team at such an age, as they usually farm them out on loan or co-ownership deals. Juve did it with Giovinco, who have now finally decided they trust him and have brought him back at the age of.....25. Milan's Paloschi is going through a co-ownership/loan phase too. Big Italian clubs do seem to find it harder to thrust Italian players into the first team for a sustained period at a young age.

  4. Let's see when a contract is put in front of him?, would BR risk being knocked back???, he must have spoken to his agent first to test the water.

  5. Looks good for 7 or 8 goals a season, perfect for our mid-table aspirations.

  7. Great !!!! we dont have a fantastic record with Italians lets hope he is better than Dossena turned out to be for us. (I say that cause I did read recently that Dossena was being linked with the Scum).
Keep the Big Man ......He is a definate alternative if we just need something different with 20 mins to go

  8. Scored 8 goals in 9 games btn Jan-12 and Mar12 but was played predominently as a Right Winger. Failed to score in the last 5 games of the season as a Centre Forward.
    Checked out stats on http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/fabio-borini/leistungsdaten/spieler_96754_2011.html

  9. I don't get the idea of sending Carroll to some other team, when he finally seems to have found form. Why not exploit that to Liverpool's benefit?

  10. With a name like Downwardspiral you know this guy's serious

  11. Don't think that Borini will be used as a replacement for Carroll, rather to add depth to the squad. With Suarez put of the majority of pre-season with the Olympic team, Borinin will provide Rodgers with an attacker he's familiar to fill that void. I see next season Liverpool utilizing a three man attack with Borini and Suarez out wide with Carroll as the middle man. Should be interesting to see. YNWA!!!!!

  12. We need lethal striker. Proven player at top level.

  13. Should be a good player for us. He's nimble, quick and a good finisher - 3 things Carroll isn't.

I know Carroll found some form at the euros but I still think that we should cash in if possible. A loan spell somewhere else in a system that fits him would benefit both parties so I'm all for it. If he has a good season on loan somewhere it increases our chances of getting some of our money back.

  14. And do you think Borini is that Lethal Proven Player ?

  15. Borini isn't an out and out centre forward, he plays on the wing or behind the target man, so he could play with Carroll and Suarez as a 3 man attack.
Why would we ever loan Carroll to Milan or any Italian club after what Juve and Milan have done over the last to seasons, this is just media gumf again trying to unsettle our players.

  16. 4 first team strikers is usually sufficient - anymore than that and we'll be taking valuable experience away from youth call ups that can impress in the Carling Cup etc.

  17. We should make a double swoop for both Fabio Borini and Bojan Krkic. Maybe we can use AC as backup but it doesn't really hurt if he's going to another team on loan. It should increase his resale value somehow, not unless he's on a 4 goal whole season kind of crap again.

  18. must be true so because everything on wikipedia is true.

  19. You would really use Andy Carroll as an impact sub, at the cost of £35 million?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes because we wouldn't get the money back from it, we would make 25 million loss if we did sell it not worth it. We will need to rotate next season because of europe,FA cup, carling cup and premierleague so might aswell keep him, plus he got better at end of the season

  21. Have not seen much of Borini but clearly Rodgers is a big fan of him.

It will be interesting to see what is going to happen with Carroll. Whether he will fit in the new style of play is doubtful. We will not get back the money we payed for Carroll so I cannot see him leaving yet unless we can find a buyer to recoup most of the money we spent on him. He has been playing well though so he deserves another shout. I highly doubt we will want to do any kind of loan agreement with Milan again either after the way they shafted us with regards to Aquilani.

  22. No, I meant we don't need Borini but someone more lethal.

  23. Milan seem to have a good record taking our expensive players on loan. If they can find a use for Carroll, why can't Rodgers fit him into his 'style'?

And Borini? Is Rodgers only going to go for players that he has previously managed? Go find a decent player maker, who is not injury prone, ffs!
