Daniel Agger and Simon Kjaer formed a fantastic defensive partnership for Denmark during Euro 2012, and with Liverpool's central defensive options (arguably) in need of improvement, could Kjaer - who is definitely available for a transfer this summer - be a possible solution?
Kjaer has been linked with Liverpool several times in the past, and with Martin Skrtel's situation less than clear, perhaps the Dane could be an option for Brendan Rodgers.
Kjaer's agent, Mikkel Beck, is optimistic that he will be able to secure a move for the defender before the transfer window closes. He told Elkstra Bladet?
"The interest in Kjaer has risen steadily since the Euros and I've been in dialogue with several interesting clubs, so there are definitely other options out there.
"For players like Simon, with his young age and huge experience, the hope of finding a new club is still very much alive. Everybody I've spoken to tells me that he is a popular target."
Earlier today, Karol Csonto - Skrtel's Agent - responded to rumours that the Slovakian might leave this summer. He said:
"Martin is a top player and it is obvious that many clubs are looking at him, but for now Skrtel remains a Liverpool player"
The key phrase here is 'for now' - that is not an emphatic rejection of the speculation. If Skrtel wasn't looking at other options, Csonto could've said "Many clubs are looking at him but Skrtel is not interested in leaving". I have no doubt that if an offer comes in from a club to which Skrtel wants to move, he'll push for a transfer.
As such, Liverpool should - In my view - sell Skrtel to the highest bidder and snap up Kjaer for an all-Danish central defensive duo. Agger-Kjaer is a well-established, successful partnership; they know how to play together so, theoretically, the chance of transferring that success to Premier League is high.
The deal would also make good financial sense: Sell Skrtl for 15-20m, and buy Kjaer for €10m, the price Wolfsburg are believed to want for the player. Not only would Liverpool be getting a younger, cheaper player, there would be money left over for other transfers.
Do it!

No defenders will be sold Jaimie, they are getting pay rises. Coates is going to be dominant when he eventually gets a gig, no need to sign Kjaer, who happens to be a massive Liverpool fan!!!!
ReplyDeleteSkrtel is a top player wouldnt like to see him go. but this guy would be a decent replacement.
ReplyDeleteI hope ANDY CARROLL refuses to go out on loan - bloody daft idea - especially from a club that signed Aquallani - TIME TO LEARN FROM MISTAKES NOT REPEAT THEM - REFUSE TO GO ANDY
ReplyDeleteyou are sick,,,....why should we sell skrtel for kjaer who only plays well for the national team...saw just too many off his flaws for wolfsburg and bone it the guy is terrible
ReplyDeleteStop trying to sell our top players, Jaimie.....U FUCKING WANKER! and your 'FUCK YOU' re-direction (as you can see) is FUCKED-UP, so GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!.
ReplyDeleteSo we sell a long serving stablished defender who has just reached his peak for 20€ mil and try to get another defender , unstablished in epl for half the price . And wolfsburg will try to take last penny out of us since they know we are in need and know how much money we got from a sale.
ReplyDeleteCheck out ESPN on-line, Carroll is not interested in going anywhere. He said he 'Is proud to play for Liverpool', they reckon West Ham have no chance of getting him.................he is staying as far as he is concerned.
ReplyDeleteBecause Jaimie is an ANTI-LIVERPOOL WANKER!!!
ReplyDeleteSkrtel is better than Kjaer so why replace him just to make a profit. If we keep on selling our better players to make profit then mid table mediocrity is all we'll be good for.
ReplyDeleteIf we are trading with Wolfsburg get Vaclav Pilar the winger he's 23 and a czech international hes cheaper, more skilful and not british.
ReplyDeleteKjaer is a huge LFC fan i know Rafa wanted him not sure if BR does. We could have got him cheaper when he left Palermo. I think BR wants to sign the German player Howdes if he got rid of Skrtel, but i don't think Skrtel is going to leave now unless City make a silly bid of the £20 mill which made headlines a month ago.
ReplyDeleteIve never been Skrtels biggest fan but last season he was our best player along with Suarez and deserves credit. But saying that look where we finished, if a silly offer was made of £15mill or over then we should sell him. He's not BR kind of player because hes a no nonsense defender who will clear his lines with 1 boot, BR likes defenders who are comfortable on the ball cool calm and can play a little like Agger. But then again Agger n Skrtel do complement 1 another.
Agree with most people here, Skrtel is the better of the two players.
ReplyDeletePlus Kjaer has a history of falling out with managers and team mates so he may be more hassle than he's worth.
For all our faults, our defence is pretty good so I think we need to build on this rather than chop and change players, which will just put us back to square one.
If and when Borini signs, I think BR needs to work on the midfield, which is pitiful compared to most of our rivals.
not sure but reports suggest he is on 80k...
ReplyDeletewest ham cant afford that and i hope liverpool wont agree to pay some part and then send him on loan...he should be used an plan b if the first plan is not working....
or atleast give him time till dec...then decide...my guess id that he wont score too many goals but he will defnitely contribute
I thought Roma has an option to buy him after the season-long loan deal. Did not see any of him performance at club level so no comments about his capacity in club football. Though feedback about the boy are not really that positive. Can be a decent cover I guess.
ReplyDeleteI wish I can see more of Coates this season.
hey guys,
ReplyDeletechk this out...maxi is leaving
According to Newell's secretary Pablo Morosano, everything is in place to bring 'La Fiera' back to Rosario once he becomes a free agent.
We are waiting for official news about the end of Maxi's link [with Liverpool]. There is an ongoing contact and we have a deal agreed with him," the official revealed to Ole."But as long as his exit from Liverpool has not been settled, we cannot announce it."
It's all about the money.
ReplyDeleteKjaer is awful and to even suggest he should replace last season player of the year tells me you have been taking something illegal!
ReplyDeleteHey Bob, There is no loyalty anymore. Only footballing mercenaries. Greed is the core value of footballers in modern times. Can anyone stop R V Pussy leaving the gooners? nuff said.
ReplyDeletePeople still listen to Kanwar? Lulz
ReplyDeleteJAIMIE KANWAR is a soooo sooooooo BOOOOORING!
ReplyDeleteHey Jaimie, RED is BACK, your FU re-direction does NOT work!, as you can see I'm BACK, F moron!!!
ReplyDeleteJaimie get a F life!!!
ReplyDeleteJaimie's FU site does NOT work guys, the man is a fake!
ReplyDeleteKjaer looked rather mediocre at Roma. Seems to have issues back at Wolfsburg and couple that with his loan, I guess they don't see him as indispensable.
ReplyDeletehow is skirtls position unclear he has stated he is staying doesnt hat suit you jk
ReplyDeleteIts not very ambitious is it?
ReplyDeletePointless story when skrtel's agent said he's not interested in moving. Why would you destroy an already good partnership?!?
ReplyDeleteReplacing Skrtel with Kjaer who is a lesser defender would be a terrible move. I guess some people would prefer to make a profit and accept mediocrity instead of fighting to keep the best players at the club.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see the Shankly spirt is still with some fans on this board who want to keep our best players.
I can't see how selling our current player of the year is a good thing. Have you even seen Kjaer much? I haven't seen much of him but are you are aware he has a flop at Wolfsburg and was poor for Roma. But he is mates with Agger so lets sign him to replace one of the best defenders in the league last year...not a great idea mate..
ReplyDeleteDefinitely would get him in but, unfortunately, Agger is always injured.
