In a press conference on Monday, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hinted that under-performing striker Andy Carroll could be send out on loan next season. This prompted major speculation in the press about Carroll's Anfield future, and Reds legend Steve Nicol - who is adamant that the 35m man should stay at Liverpool - has criticised Rodgers for the way he handled the issue.
Speaking to ESPN last night, a clearly irritated Nicol barked:
"This whole transfer loan business should be a lesson to Brendan Rodgers.
"He fell into the trap and got caught out talking to journalists, and when you do that, you've got to be very careful what you say.
"He was asked about loans, and he said he wasn't averse to doing it. He didn't mention Andy Carroll as the guy he was talking about, but that's what journalists do - they take every little thing you say, and spin it into something else. It's something he needs to be careful about".
I don't think this is entirely fair. Rodgers' comments were - IMO - perfectly fair and acceptable, and his balanced view was a welcome change to Kenny Dalglish's rudeness and vitriol in press conferences, especially when asked about Carroll. Rodgers said:
"It's something I would have to look at, I have to be honest. I'm not going to sit here and say I will never let anyone go on loan, then come in here in two weeks and a player's gone, and you're saying 'you said you wouldn't let them go'.
"There are many things to going on loan. Is it going to be beneficial for the club, that's the most important thing? Sometimes a player going out on loan - in general, not just Andy - can benefit the club in the long term.
"It gets them game experience, and they come back a better player, a more confident one. Certainly more so than if they've been sitting on the bench for the majority of the season.
"Andy's always going to be linked with clubs, whether he was here or not. I have spoken to him on his holidays, he knows exactly where he stands, but I have had no inquiries about him"
What's so wrong with that?
I hope and pray Carroll either goes out on loan or leaves this summer. Liverpool's forward progress on the field will be stunted if Rodgers has to find a way to fit him into the first team. That's the harsh reality, and the progress of the club must surely always come before the individual?
There is 18 months of evidence proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Carroll is not a good fit for LFC. He may improve, and that's great for him, but let him go and improve elsewhere.

you r not liverpool supporter now im sure you just have negative things to say about our club this whole site is scheme of negativity and spite i reckon you r bolton or blackburn fan
ReplyDeleteno oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ReplyDeleteCarroll to stay.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for him to prove all these doubters a lesson. The sad fact is majority of the doubters are our teams so called "fans".
Get a grip and get behind our players instead of wishing them to go on loan. I doubt Aqua man will come back as a super star due to his 2 season on loan in an inferior league.
Backing the big man for this year!
I hope he stays.fights and shows his worth. Because graham and carroll are similar and he fitted into rogers formation. And carroll isn't bad scoring goals with his feet and he can hold onto the wall so keep him!
ReplyDeletewhy dont you ef off with with dalglish prejudice.
ReplyDeleteyou are a disgrace to call yourself a Liverpool fan
always with some spite and hate for liverpool fc and now i had enough u r not liverpool supporter its bolton or blackburn for u as if you know all and best its sickening why not bye fot.manager and play on your pc than you can bay sell whom ever you desire have press conf.and so on good luck with that im off newer to return on this false liverpool supporters site
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right mate. I stopped reading this blog sometime ago cos the author is so adept at criticizing/slating others, but quick to ban and (or) delete other people's criticism of himself. I think this blog is self serving, narrow, prejudiced and what's more tending towards oblivion!
ReplyDeleteCarroll needs to stay - we don't need another farce a la Hodgson/Purslow as with Aquilani
ReplyDeleteNice one I've regarded Jamie as a Liverpool fan.
ReplyDeleteThat should have been never regarded Jamie as a Liverpool fan.
ReplyDeleteTalk about Carroll (who has at least several times shown he has ability) being sent on loan or leaving, while the absolute jokes like Henderson are comfortably set to stay? This has gone ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI was speaking ith a co-liverpool supporter the other day and he said something similar about this so called Jamie as a "fan" who only reports negatives and never sees anything positive about the club. What i dislike the most is that he feels a false sense of knowledge i.e. knows everything from coaching to statistics to media. I have 3 degrees in economics including a phd and he would never pass any course in statistics cos his inferences are so narrow and lack merit!
ReplyDeletetiki taka, well who knows if andy can or can't play this way, its something he hasn't done yet. he is young enuff to learn anyway. he also gives us something else if tiki taka isn't working on the day and from corners and free kicks against us he is top class at defending his own goal (drogba like).also craigiebaby pmsl, where was aquaman when we signed him,, yeah italy and for a inferior league all the italians looked a hell of a lot better with the ball at their feet than us english at the euros. last pre season aquaman was our stand out performer so if u don't like our players. piss off and support some1 else YNWA JFT96
ReplyDeleteGetting fed up with steve nicol
ReplyDeletei don't think a loan has hurt Jonjo Shelvy . If some of you do not remember he went out on loan to Blackpool because Kenny couldn't promise regular first team foot-ball. He went out and scored a couple of goals at Blackpool. Shelvy only returned due to injury sustained by Adams and Gerrard. This gave Shelvy and Spearing regular first team foot-ball for sometime. Kenny openly praised Shelvy's performance while on loan. If Jonjo can succeed on loan so can Andy Carroll. It is really up to the player and his level of his determination to succeed.
ReplyDeletei would do no buisness with italian clubs for the way they stitched us up with aqua man lets take borini on loan
ReplyDeleteCarroll will do well for Liverpool given chance. I hope the new manager tries to build on the lad's attributes rather than give up on him. I hope...
ReplyDeleteI have read your blogs Mr Kanwar over the last 6 month or so and my view is you may be an LFC fan but your understanding of football is poor. If Andy Carroll CONTINUES to play to his potential he will be the best striker in the Premiership within 2 years for 10. He may not fulfill his potential like many others but he's here and we would be crazy not to put our faith in him.
ReplyDeleteYon called Daglish "rude" yet you ban others from posting comments on your blog. Sure you are self righteous; you find it easy to abuse others but lack any ability to take criticisms of your own. Is this blog of yours balanced or self serving?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about this exact same thing today. Rodgers was asked a direct question about whether Andy Carroll was in his plans for the future, on the background of the AC Milan loan situation, and he did not give an answer in the affirmative. The media then blew this whole thing out of proportion, so that now we have West Ham allegedly tabling a bid for Carroll's services.
ReplyDeleteI put the blame for this fiasco squarely at the feet of the media, however, Rodger's silence on the matter since Monday, whilst expressing his desire to tie Agger, Skrtel and Suarez down to new contracts, speaks volumes. This just heaps more pressure and misery on the player at a time when he probably thought his fortunes were changing.
nicol getting his jocks in a twist over nothing.
ReplyDeletehe should be supporting rodgers whose approach to the media side of things has been a breath of fresh air after kennys ignorance/stubborness.
i think the carroll will only gather pace.
Dalglish ignorance:????????????????
ReplyDelete4 league titles as a manager
You simply have not got a clue mate. /why dont you keep your ignorant remarks to yourself
carrol cant play in Rogers team!! Can Rooney play in a system for England Diclubs in European systems very well!! Brendan rogers has a system thad Barnes play in a system for England, Answer noo. But both played for there t he plays just like barca and spain and you dont need an out and out striker , What they use is a system just like spain and Barca . We are now in 2012 not 1990 or the Eighties. And thats what rogers is going to do ,I am sorry Andy carol will not fit into the system, The best teams now play control football without an out and out striker., Because every player is a striker now, from the defence to attack
ReplyDeleteAQUALANI - ANOTHER GREAT LOAN IDEA - GROW UP - ANDY STAYS
ReplyDeletehe constantly provokes reaction to entice people into posting...remember he gets paid for every advert displayed on a page....
ReplyDeletethe point of a loan is so that a player can go and get more experience rather than proving themselves at other clubs and then coming back and failing
ReplyDeleteNot a single person on this site knows what Rodgers has said to Carroll in regards to this phishing and speculation, so are you really that different from the media in which you so easily blast???
ReplyDeleteNicol is speaking his mind which as it happens is not too sharp at this moment in time.
They don't call it silly season for nothing but for heavens sake will you put the gas can down and let stupid little side bars like this whittle out!
@jaimie kanwar, carroll has worked his socks off for liverpool the last couple of months, he scored vital goals also helped us defend corners. Your cristism of him are un fair and out of order. All you do is write pointless articles. Either slating a liverpool player or pointless rumours which don't happen. I have no idea how you can call yourself a liverpool fan.
ReplyDeleteexactly they are greedy and are never willing to pay a players worth they just take players on loan and hope they can aquire there services for free or pennies
ReplyDeleteBrendan needs to back Andy or sack him BUt must not sit on the fence - hopelessly unfair on thge player especially when compared to USELESS DOWNING
ReplyDeleteThis is going to develop into a crisis if not nipped in the bud tomorrow - LFC STATEMENT REQUIRED A S A P
ReplyDeleteYes, only an idiot can be talking about loaning one striker when we have 2 and no money to sign 2 more.
ReplyDeleteManchester City has 4 world class strikers so they loaned Adebayor.
After what has happened with Aquillani how stupid you have to be to even consider this kind of a loan ??
Totaly agree nicol was agreat player for us but since he got the sack he cant seem to keep his gob shut always engaging his tongue
ReplyDeletebefore his brain
Keep up the fantastic work Jamie on your blogs and to all the other detractors i will tell you this if you want your LFC ego massaged to suit some fantasy laiden view of our great team in it's current state then write your own blog.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to it!!!
we didn't pay 35mil for shelvey.
ReplyDeletewe did for carroll and to spend that amount of money and then to send the player on loan less than 2 years later is basically saying that the manager doesn't fanyc him.
carrol cant play in a football system he is a out and out attacker , not a player who can move quick whilst passing the ball , only when gerrard lays it on the plate for him , He will not be any good in the rodgers system , Send him out on loan ot get 10 million for him
ReplyDeletethey hardly stitched us up,they were entitled to pass up on him.alot of fans on here don't rate him so milan and juve are hardly going to be mugs and snap him up if they are unsure.
ReplyDeleteIm a little puzzled at the criticism heading jk's way here. I dont like a lot of the posts and refrain from commenting in those. But some r great starting points for discussion. I may not be reading between lines. But the essnce of this thread. Is to highlight idiot nicols comments then DISAGREE with them. Anyway......Id like to say that that idiot nicol has done more than any other ex player to destabalise the managers position than any other. It wouldnt be bad if he'd been succesful as a manager. He hasnt. Yet he feels free to open his big trap to any journo wholl listen. Which is bloody rich considering the content of these latest comments. The guy obvioulsy likes the sound of his voice. Someone give a job serving sarnies r something. Or give him an allotment.
ReplyDeleteho can you say you think he could be potentially the best premier league striker for ten years but then say he may not fulfill his potential?
ReplyDeleteyou don't exactly seem like you are sold on your argument.
i have been an LFC fan since it was a shilling in the boys pen so have seen all the ups and downs. What this site represents and enjoys is the downs, This is not about egos being massaged it is about continual snide and untrue remarks about LFC.
ReplyDeleteThis column could be written by Patrick Collins
are you marina dalglish?
ReplyDeleteso you think his attitude to the media was respectful? you probably do judging by the way you replied to me.
and i'm going to keep making remarks on here, that's the point of a discussion MATE.
4 league titles and don't forget the carling cup.
ReplyDeletedid i dispute what he did for the club?
no i didn't.
Being a fan is about supporting the club....Liverpool Football Club.
ReplyDeleteNo single individuals needs will ever be put first....
A pass completion rate of c54% last season says it all. If a professional footballer cannot pass the ball to his team mates significantly more times than he gives the ball away how the hell does he stand a chance of integrating into a philosophy of high ball retention and recirculation.
He is not a pass and move type footballer and never will.
Whilst he is a good option if plan b is required, quite frankly I've seen enough long ball b*ll*cks in the last 15 years to last a lifetime.
This is the moment when we look toward the future and do what is right for the club, and give BR the best possible chance of creating the footballing dynasty he is looking for.
With that in mind, Carroll needs to be sold, rather than sent out on loan, at the earliest opportunity so we can bring in a replacement more technically gifted and in line.
In stating the above, it in no way reduces my love and passion for LFC, in fact quite the opposite. I am not looking through rose tinted glasses "hoping" for a situation to rectify itself, I am looking objectively and recognising a fault that needs to be corrected. And as per any business or line of work, re-training has been considered, however, in this case the individual does not fit into the philosophy of the manager and as such he should be moved on, with gratitude for his efforts and his wembley goals in particular.
Just like in business, and in life, sometimes you need to be cruel to be kind. I'm sure he'll thrive under Allardyce or Pulis as their philosophy is very much in keeping with Carroll's style of play.
#YNWA
"I hope and pray Carroll either goes out on loan or leaves this Summer". Absolutely disgraceful comment JK, he is a young hard working player who is now settled on Merseyside and ready to deliver for LFC. I hope and pray that Rodgers gives every player a fair chance before spending money we don't have on hopefuls, maybes and potentials. If players like Joe Cole and Charlie Adam are given a chance then I fully expect a young English International like Andy Carroll to be given one too.
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing to do with Nichol's comments but all to do with JK's gratuitously offensive remarks about Dalglish
ReplyDeletewell said, the smartest post i've read on here in a long time.
ReplyDeletei hope and pray carroll stays and rams your words backdown your throat
ReplyDeletewhy don't you go somewhere else so instead of having a go at jamie for having an opinion? just because it differs from yours you get sour, pathetic.
ReplyDeleteJK rips on Carroll everyday. Considering the limitations inherit to the English Euro squad, Carroll played incredibly. But JK just keeps squawking about Mario Gomez, and loaning Carroll to those Italian hucksters.
ReplyDeleteI for one am tired of the treachery. I vote we loan JK to Roma.
well said.
ReplyDeleteOk lets do a Jamie here, where did Brendan Rodgers say or intimate Carroll could be loaned? He answered a question about the link of Carroll going to Milan on loan a rummour that cme from Italy. In this day and age get some proof he said it Jamie
ReplyDeleteI agree with every word. I read an article on the DT webpage today claiming that LFC was contacting clubs to assess their interest in taking AC on loan. Spurs, according to the reporters, were contacted on Tuesday. I think that the 'story' simply does not stand up to scrutiny. Why? Because a club that has expressed an interest, namely West Ham United, has NOT been contacted. How do I know? The co-owner of the club, David Gold , said so today. He reiterated the club's interest in the player but stated that there had been NO contact between the clubs.
ReplyDeleteI would keep Carroll over Henderson, Downing or Adam any fucking day of the week. Two layabouts and a numpty with a death wish going into tackles. Carroll showed a glimmer of what he can do when he stops getting tied down by a £35m albatross. Give the lad a chance and if he doesn't work out, send him out on LOAN in January. I reckon he'll be another Shearer when his confidence is at full strength and he develops a little more ball control.
ReplyDeleteYour name sake was a crap player.
ReplyDeleteWhy not something positive to say.
Why always crap
why always negative
why always snide
JK back on scene so all negative remarks to be removed
ReplyDeleteI think if we send Carroll out on loan, just like Chelsea did with Sturridge he will come back a better player. No one though Sturridge had what it takes until he started thumping them in for Bolton.
ReplyDeletehow will it become a crisis?
ReplyDeletesurely carroll knows where he stands with the manager.
if we issued a statement everytime there was a rumour we'd be a laughing stock.
so why be offensive
ReplyDeletehodgson wanted sturridge on loan at lfc before he was sacked.the majority of fans were against it at the time.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone's point is simple really, Jamie never seams to just get behind the team,.... he will love this..... he's like Rafa, Gerrard once said "I could do 100 things on the pitch 98 of them perfect and Rafa would say at the end, "right Steven about those two things you got wrong"
ReplyDeleteJust the odd article praising someone would be nice ( wondering now if that Suso article I read was Jamie lol )
Further to my comment above, if, and it is a big if, BR really is contemplating a loan move for AC, it really would be an appalling piece of PR on the manager's part. The lad hasn't even returned to training yet and surely he deserves at least pre-season to show the manager what he can do. As a matter of principle I am 100% opposed to loans between Premier League clubs.
ReplyDeletewell said
ReplyDeletei didn't think i was.
ReplyDeletebut he's entitle to write what he wants just like people are entitled to criticise what he writes.
ReplyDeletewhat i can't fathom is people who complain but continually post on here as if someone is forcing them too.
i love this site but i don't always agree with what jamie posts but i respect the time and effort he puts into it.
and anyone who thinks he isn't an lfc fan is stupid,he obviously cares or else he wouldn't be pointing out what he sees as flaws.
if you stopped reading this blog along time ago what are you doing on here?
ReplyDeletedid you just fancy some bitchin at opinions that you don't agree with.
your comments would have validity if they were balanced with positive comments from time to time
ReplyDeleteyou telling jamie to 'eff off' in an earlier comment wasn't offensive either.
ReplyDeleteNicol like every other former Liverpool pundit bar Hansen has NOTHING to
ReplyDeletesay that that remotely links itself to the truth. This
is quite clearly a case of Fsg 1) giving orders
to drop hints about Carroll so clubs know he's available. Carroll is now officially an asset that must now improve it's stock before being sold to the highest bidder. What better way of improving the stock of this particular asset than pairing him with a former manager and current best mate. I posted last season If we were going to keep Carroll we'd have to get Allardyce in to utilise his attributes. I'm just happy it's most likely to happen in reverse.
This Carroll episode SMACKS of ruthlessness.......I LOVE it. These owners are not bothered about legendary status or reputation. If you're not up to it...... you're out. Long may it continue.
Judging by the sacking of almost every staff member who had anything to do with the 1st team and the present Carroll incident here's betting Carra doesn't get much footy through the season. That handshake Carra and Kenny never received after the FA cup final means there is a single bullet left in the smoking gun yet to be fired.
It's good to be the king.........
i was responding to the gratuitously offensive remark about KB
ReplyDeleteI must admit that i think Rodgers handled that press conference very well, naturally there is a backlash to his comments re Carroll, but that's to be expected, it does come as a surprise that Carroll could well be gone this summer and it does seem harsh but thats what you get for changing a manager, Rodgers has his own idea's about how he wants us playing and if he succeed's there is no doubt that we will all be very thankful that he came....
ReplyDeleteAs much as i like Carroll and think he deserves a chance it really is down to the management as to who they sell and buy etc, it could work out for the better in terms of us playing more fluid and cohesive football, and hopefully we will find some form in front of goal....Carroll has had plenty of appearances for us and although i think his dip in form was largely due to his constant omissions by Kenny and general poor team form....if Rodgers thinks he won't fit then so be it.
This is going to be a very important season for us, we need to be ready for it, the new manager needs our backing and the Carroll situ needs sorting, one way or the other....
I just hope that we don't leave ourselves short up front again, it would be nice to have a few QUALITY options....
A lot of people are adamant that AC can't fit into BR's style of play. I'm with you, give him some time, minimum 6 months, preferably a season. If he's not willing to put in the work or patently showing no signs of adapting to the system, then move him on.
ReplyDeleteIf BR does loan him out, however, it should not be to a team that plays route one football, but one that will nurture his footballing skills and brain, in readiness for BR's brand of football.
Managers are usually overly-protective (depends on how you view of course) of players in front of the media, which can make it hard for the media to spin on what they say. Rodgers, rightly or wrongly, wasn't so over-protective , un/intentionally. So the media, amusingly, have basically done their usual spinning, couple that with the comment by Pier Berlusconi and you got plenty spotlight. Its good that he wasn't nauseatingly protective about Carroll and instead he was (maybe) telling it as it is. Obviously it can have negatives as well as positives, as seen with the way the media has latched on to it.
ReplyDelete'played incredibly'
ReplyDeletehehe. Give the English media a run for their money, when its come to hyping up English players. Pirlo won a bloody header against the big scary Carroll, 'incredible'.
if Rodgers dosnt rate Carroll then he should sell him for best price possible. Kenny Dalglish under played him last season, big mistake! New manager new regime.
ReplyDeleteFishes and bait eh.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I rate KK, his media handling was terrible.
ReplyDeleteit's how you tell them.
ReplyDeleteoh that's ok then.
ReplyDeletethanks for clarifying when offensive behavior is tolerable.
hen did he play incredibly? he scored a decent goal,he had one start.england were dreadful, worst they have been any major tournament for years.gerrard was the only player who looked remotely decent.
ReplyDeletecarroll and fat sam share the same agent so that's where the west ham talk is coming from.
ReplyDeleteDitto. Although there is always RAWK and people like Tomkins for these people.
ReplyDeleteadd in Carroll's old chaperone Kevin Nolan, you got a bit more padding to add into the west ham talk
ReplyDeleteAt this moment in time, we are all guessing about a media story (how sad does that sound)... BR did state in an interview that he has spoken to AC on the phone but was waiting for him to return from holiday to have a more in-depth chat. I'm guessing the wise thing to do here is wait, we'll know soon enough!
ReplyDeletealanacourt - stop clogging up the site with pointless posts. If you don't like it here, leave. Same goes for Ogungbe. If you can't hack different opinions to your own, you're on the wrong site. Stick to discussing football, not me.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I've put you out of your misery. RAWK will welcome you with open arms.
ReplyDeleteYes, my understanding of football is 'poor' but you think that Carroll will be the best striker in the Premier League in 2 years? Oh, the irony. There is *no evidence* whatsoever to add weight to that contention. On the other hand, there is a mountain of statistical evidence to suggest that Carroll is just not good enough.
ReplyDeleteAnd what 'potential' are you talking about, exactly? The potential that saw Carroll:
* Score only 11 goals in 18 months.
* Struggle to maintain passing accuracy of 55%
* Achieve the lowest conversion rate for a striker in the ENTIRE PREMIER LEAGUE (6%)
* Achieve the lowest shots on target ration of all LFC's attacking players.
Etc.
The guy is 23. The time for alleged 'potential' is over. Liverpool do not have time to spend the next three years waiting for Carroll to fulfill this fantasy potential.
It is not about the individual -why can't you understand that? With respect, people like you who are so obsessed with the individual over the club need to wake up.
Liverpool had one of the worst league seasons in decades last year precisely because Carroll failed to do what he is paid to do, i.e. score goals. Even when the ball was handed to him on a silver platter, he still failed to hit the target on numerous occasions.
One final note: a couple of good games at the END of a season does not constitute potential; it means Carroll saw that Euro 2012 was approaching, so he put in extra effort to make the squad.
If LFC are to progress, Carroll needs to go. End of story.
Great post. I myself have argued countless times with fellow pool fans that Carroll is not technically good enough, especially in a team that will hopefully play something resembling tiki taka. I too detest hoof ball football and with Carroll in the team it's the easy ball to play. He is slow, cumbersome and would definitely not fit into a system that requires speed of thought and movement. I said in the past he's the biggest flop in football history because we paid £35m for potential! Get rid now and use any money we manage to salvage on someone else. £35m!! Sounds stupider every time you say it
ReplyDeleteWith due respect, Kenny's dealings with the media only went downhill towards the end of the season, after he had been seriously under the cosh for some time.
ReplyDeleteWhat you regard as 'rudeness' and 'vitriol', I found to be no more than candour - you only have to watch his LFC_TV interviews being replayed over and over to see how the media (initially) lapped it up.
Unfortunately the Suarez incident changed all that, the fnckers smelled blood, and he was forced into a corner to fight them alone. Understandably, his feelings of isolation betrayed the true man we all loved. (Can I say that word without some tw@t taking the piss or calling me an apologist?)
Brendan will have to watch himself, as they like him at the minute, and will stroke his ego until he gives them enough rope to hang himself with. That's what Liverpool managers are for, surely.......?
Open your eyes. There are plenty of positive articles on this site; also, most articles contains positive comments about the players/manager. You and others just don't want to see because you have such tunnel vision. According to you and others posters like alanable, the LFC fan playbook goes like this:
ReplyDelete* You must always be positive about the club and its players.
* Any criticism, even if fair, and you cannot be considered a fan.
That is utter BS.
Your Rafa analogy is spot on; ironically, I am like him in that respect. Criticism, continuous improvement and never resting on laurels is what made LFC great in the first place. managers like Shankly, Paisley and Fagan were also like Rafa - always looking for ways to improve.
The club - and the fanbase - has lost sight of that approach over the last 22 years, which is part of the reason why the club has not won the league for so long.
What 'gratuituously offensive' remarks? Calling Dalglish rude? How is that offensive, exactly? He WAS rude to press last season. Repeatedly. That is a fact. Just because you worship Dalglish like some kind of deity doesn't change that.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, he was forced to issue a public apology last season for his rudeness (!) He apologised for 'conduct unbecoming a Liverpool manager' after a particularly rude press interview.
Calling him rude is definitely not 'gratuitously offensive'. What *is* gratuitously offensive is your tiresome hyper-sensitivity and penchant for belittling people who have the temerity to have a different opinion than you.
This is why most LFC message boards are horrible places to discuss football; too many hyper-sensitive superfans attacking everyone and anyone for expressing a view that differs from their own.
With regard to 'quality options', I just read a very interesting rumour linking LFC with Real Madrid attacker Jose Callejon. This is the first I've heard of it, but is exactly the type of player we need - young, quality, no fear. Add to that Suarez, Borini and maybe Dempsey and there may be some cause for optimism.
ReplyDeleteI would still love it if Carroll came good though. Absolutely love it.....
Disgraceful? Don't exaggerate or anything. And don't be hypocritical - there are players at the club, past and present, that you have wanted to leave. I didn't personally attack Carroll - I've explained by views on why he needs to leave at length many times.
ReplyDeleteI care about the progression of the club, not the individual. Players like Carroll and Downing will slow down the implementation of Brendan Rodgers' football philosophy, so they need to go, and I make no apology for expressing that.
As a comparison, Benitez got rid of Robbie Keane after 6 months after seeing that he wouldn't fit in. That is the kind of ruthlessness that is required now. There's no room for sentiment - Carroll has had 18 months, and one good month at the end the season does not change the 17 months of underperformance that came before it.
Totally agree. The exaggeration from some fans really is a sight to behold. As Titi says below, Carroll scored a goal, but that's all he did.
ReplyDeleteHow is calling Dalglish rude offensive? He WAS rude, not only to the general media but also to Liverpool TVs in house reporters (which baffled me since their job was to make him look good).
ReplyDeleteAnd frankly, some of the things he said, I think was a bit insulting to the fans intelligence, claiming that Downing was better than he expected? REALLY? Have our standards fallen that far?
Reunited with K Nolan again. I think this would be v good for AC. The system is already in place for him. I would speculate he may bag 10+/- league goals there. A loan may work well as 10 goals wouldn't necessarily ruin his value. I cant see W Ham actually paying 15 for him now as they need improvements in other areas. Only chance is a loan.
ReplyDeleteI think nobody here or any real LFC fan could or should have anything personal against KD or the players bought by him. KD had done enough for LFC during his tenure as player to earn the status as an iconic figure in LFC.
ReplyDeleteHowever, facts are not to be made up or hidden. AC scored 11 goals in 56
matches since he joined us and he cost us 35 mil pounds. SD got 2 goals
and 2 assists in 46 matches and he cost us 20 mil pounds. As a result, we were 8th in
the league. Two things, either he identified the wrong players and spent big way over the limit for
some at best, mediocre players. Or, if they are good first team players when we broke the bank
for them, that means KD failed to utilize their capacity and guide them well. In any case, KD and Comolli had to go and that is perfectly logical, purely result-based and nothing personal here.
Some of us fans here mentioned that AC is similar to another player, Danny Graham, bought by BR in Swansea. In stats, this dude is a tenth of the price of AC and had a scoring record of 14 goals in 39 matches last season. In reality, I think he moves better and is smarter in positioning himself for goal scoring opportunities compared to AC. Personally, I will not put the 2 dudes together for a comparison since there is no ground in doing so. Not to mentioned that crippling effect of being the 8th most expensive signing in the history of football and rather obviously, AC couldn't handle it well.
Looking at the way AC positioned, moved, passed and scored last season, I can hardly associate him with the style of football preached by BR. Also, he definitely cannot be relied on to lead the line for LFC because we cannot afford to have another 4-goal in 35 league games show from our main striker. We fans just have admit that AC is simply over-rated and he has a very steep learning curve to be a 20-goal-a-season striker. I think the only reason for BR to make him available for loan should be a move to up his value for sale later. Ultimately, he should be sold instead of going on loan, imo, definitely nothing insulting, slating or personal.
Errrrrm. Sky just said Callejon is deffo not for sale.
ReplyDeleteRead into that what you will. Good rumour while it lasted, though.
Well said! I could not have put it better myself.
ReplyDeleteSpot on. A few of the ex legends might say it as it is now that none of them play golf with Brendon. I think he will shape the squad nicely.
ReplyDeleteI am unable to stomach cliques who pursue vendettas against individuals. I made my views known on this site a few days ago but it was expunged. Will just say again I believe Liverpool FC and their supporters are renowned for their fairness - not just to members of their team but also to teams visiting Anfield to compete.
ReplyDeleteAndy Carroll deserves the same opportunity to prove himself to the new manager as other team members. It is hoped those who express their views here will remember the maxims of LFC and demand he is afforded that right. Please remember he is some mother and father's son who is trying his best for LFC. Ask yourself the question; "Would you like your son to be subjected to such unfair criticism?"
Yes ignorance in front of the press.. or have you forgotten his poor performances?
ReplyDeletebe careful, you'll have someone misinterpret your comment and tell you how many titles he won.
ReplyDeleteDalglish is a legend of the club and football in general. But we are knackered at the moment cause he bought rubbish and played them week in week out hoping they would come good. Don't give me crap about net spend. He had money and blew it.
ReplyDeletewas on the liverpool echo last week about it but doubt he'll sign.
ReplyDeletedid hodgson get treated with the same fairness?
ReplyDeletehe wasn't good enough for us and got the axe.sometimes you just have to face facts and realise some people aren't up to the job.
AC may well be a hard working young player but sometimes players just don't 'fit'. I think this is the case with Carroll. Oh & yes the same applies to Charlie Adam.. sooner he goes the better.
ReplyDeleteThat's completely over the top...How can you say Hendo is a joke. The lad has just turned 22. He has potential to be a very good player, and we needed more british players in the team for home-grown rules also. Were you as naive to expect him to start bossing midfields straight away? Give the lad a break he'l be a good player, and it's not his fault we payed approx 16mil for him. Put some thought in before you comment.
ReplyDeleteI would love him to prove us all wrong.. but somehow I can't see it.
ReplyDeleteCarra not getting any footy this season will be because he is passed it. Plain and simple. He was lucky to play as often as he did last season. He's finished.
ReplyDeleteHe has been poor. But to be fair kenny didn't really know how to use him properly, and actually target men like carroll generally peak later in their footballing careers like Niall Quinn. I'm not saying we should keep him. Ideally I would like to keep him because i genuinely believe he's going to be a good player. However if B.Rod feels he can't fit his system, then ultimately he needs to go. Don't go slating the lad all the time. He's going to be a good player, but maybe just not for us.
ReplyDeleteEveryone would agree that Kenny's second spell in charge was a failure, and he handled things badly, but as a Liverpool supporter you have to respect one of Liverpools greatest legends. Don't just throw abuse at a man who is Liverpool through and through. Respect what he's done and tried to do, and move on. Sure his 2nd coming was a failure but quite a lot of Liverpool fans don't like when fellow fans disrespect one of the clubs greatest legends.
ReplyDeleteSadly, no he did not. He was as you said sacked and went on to lift WBA up the league table and ended within touching distance of LFC who brought in more than £100m worth of players when he left. You may remember he did so well the FA selected him to lead the England national team.
ReplyDeleteNow Liverpool's new manager is seeking out bargain basement buys because he cannot afford the upmarket shops!
Demand the right for ALL Liverpool players to be assessed before being dumped. That's the 'Liverpool Way'.
You guys should get a room :)
ReplyDeleteWho honestly gives a toss what the UK media say about your football players? I get the feeling that Rodgers has a very honest relationship with his players. There will be no sugar coating or hiding behind other coaches or other staff members. He'll tell a player how it is and there will be no doubt. What the media then says is just pointless speculation so why would anyone inside the club pay attention to it? Nicol is now a part of that media circus so perhaps he is obliged to consider it important but as far as I am concerned the trash that gets written in papers these days is just for amusement and not to be taken seriously. If people go about publishing stories that Carroll is to be loaned out, well, so what? If Andy gets upset about that then it's his problem and he should go and talk to his manager about it. Any player who stews over these stories and takes it all personally probably shouldn't be in professional sports.
ReplyDeleteThank God the 35 million was actually paid by Torres's sale to Chelsea. If we can get 10-12 million for Carroll it may seem like a big loss when in fact the difference of 15 million in Torres's sale of 15 million + the 12 million we may get for Carroll will be just a little more than what we bought Torres for.
ReplyDeleteHi Davph, we must understand that no matter what we fans say here will not affect the manager's decision as to who should be kept in the team and who should go. Most of us only make remarks based on what we saw and know, in limited sense of footballing knowledge most of the time, rather direct, logical sense.
ReplyDeletePardon me, I do read some contradictions between your words. If Hodgson did very well for WBA without spending a huge sum of money and managed England very well, that implies LFC is being very poorly run by KD because after spending way over limit but just slightly better than WBA at the end of the season. So KD was sacked after being assessed, fairness?
Ironically, there's no exactly fairness in this world, no exception in football world. Based on what measures is an assessment of player fair? For me, Maxi Rodriguez has been equally committed, better techniques, movement and scored the same number of goals as AC (4) in a third of games played by AC (12 to 35). If Maxi Rodriguez is always starting the game as reserves and dropped in next game after scoring, then why AC must go through another stringent process of 'fair assessment' before anyone can request for him to be loaned or sold. For me, I really think AC had been given enough time to prove himself, he failed somehow though.
In your words, what will Maxi Rodriguez's parents think about that? They should be very upset because their son is deemed to be a reserve and nobody will care if he is to be sold or loaned despite outshining the main striker in performances and stats, shouldn't they? This logic is scary and never ending, pal.
"If you can't hack different opinions to your own...."

"If you can't hack different opinions to your own...."
ReplyDeletePot, Kettle, Black etc.
kenny is gone you wanker. stop criticising the man!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you. Just because LFC paid 35m for Carroll, doesn't mean we hang on to him with our dear life even if he does not fit in. Frankly, Carroll is the odd one out in the squad based on Brendan's playing style. With Carroll, its no longer a matter of making a profit on his sale but an issue of cutting losses if Brendan's sees that he would not fit in even in the long term.
ReplyDeleteSo, loaning him out should also be ruled out. We also need to be fair to Carroll. By keeping him, we could be stifling his progress in his footballing career. He could do well with other clubs where their playing style suits him. The club need to make tough decisions like this to move a few steps forward.
By using him as plan B, as Nicol suggested, is it fair to Carroll. What if plan A works fine 90% of the time. Does it mean Carroll will be the super sub - the most expensive super sub? The most logical option is to sell him, even at a loss while some teams still wants him.
Personally, Carroll will not fit into Brendan's playing style even in the medium and long term. Sell him.
Well said Chappo
ReplyDeleteGreat comment!
No individual is greater than the club. Players come and go. The fact that they wear a red jersey should not shield them against criticism, when they are mediocre...which is the case of Caroll. He slows down the team and is the worst thing that has ever happened to Liverpool this last decade
By the way: Titi Camara...is that the real you? You were such a gifted player and an honour to our jersey
JK - If you see the statistics before joining Liverpool, AC had a conversion rate of one in two games (approx) 19 out of 42 in Championship and 11 out of 20 in Premier League after which he was sold to LFC.
ReplyDeleteHis record for LFC has been abysmal, but two things can give him the benefit of the doubt:
1. Last season, there was something tactically wrong in the way Liverpool played (Don't ask me what, I am not an expert) But considering that the conversion rate of ALL of our players was horrible - it was either extremely bad luck or it was horrible tactics.
2. Last season, he did not get a continuous run of games. Maybe because Dalglish did not rate him or maybe because he thought he as not ready. But when he did get a string of games, his overall play had improved. (Couple of goals against Chelsea, if I am not wrong)
If his play doesn't improve, LFC should cut him off. However, giving him a decent run of games in the beginning especially when Suarez would have not had enough rest will do AC good. Give him time till December. If it doesn't work out - Sell!
How can you judge Carroll on a handful of games? Dalglish never gave him a solid run of games, so everytime he came in, he was rusty. Strikers are very much confidence players and when the manager doesn't have confidence in you and misuses you, then that hurts the way he plays. As soon as he got a run of consecutive games under his belt, towards the end of the season, he started coming good, that's no coincidence. Carroll may not be the fastest player, but he isn't as super slow as some people may think, he has a bullet left foot on him, and he is quite handy with the ball at his feet. Give him some ball and passing drills, which I doubt he got any last season and give him a run of games and we'll see a different player out there
ReplyDeleteWith Carroll in the team? We were playing hoofball football as you call it before he was in the team, thanks in no small part to Jamie Carragher. As good as Agger is playing it out from the back, Carra is not. Carra has been our problem. Carroll is good at holding it up for players, that is one of his strengths, which in some cases is much needed. Give him another season. If he can't adapt, then sell him, but not without giving him the chance
ReplyDeletemy problem is your sustained negativity, NEVER a positive word
ReplyDeleteNot only Niall Quinn, but Luca Toni is another example of a big targetman peaking later in their careers
ReplyDeleteHang on a second now. Is your midfielders, wingers or fullbacks getting good crosses into the box plan A or plan B??? Regardless, if they were getting good crosses into the box(which is good football IMO), who would you prefer to be getting on the end of them. Jesus Christ people. Correct me if I am wrong but if Downing or whoever were constantly supplying decent crosses(Please do not attempt to tell me that BR is against THIS!!), surely an on-form Carroll would be the ideal erpson to have in the box!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteHe doesnt fit LFCs style of play??? Do me a favour! Thats just like saying that LFC do not like to cross the ball into the box.
Aimed at whoever wants it!!!!
Leave Andy Carrol alone! Get behind the new manager and our beloved team! Dont you think we get enough criticism from elsewhere? Lets see how the season develops, geez!
ReplyDeletei dont want carol but i think a loan would do him good
ReplyDeleteThe more Nicol talks, the more he comes across as a bellend. He should go back to being a second rate manager in a third rate league.
ReplyDeleteSpot on mate :-) !! Playing Ac in tiki taka is like playing messi in Stoke city , it wont work , if Ac neers to be successful here he need to be like Ibrahamovich like playerand for that to happrn i dont think he would get that much time here ao loan loan and one more thing, if we give him time till december and he fails miserably then what would we do. we would probably be sitting on eoght and everyonr will criticize Br for playing him and he looses the job and we faiil again . . thus is a make or break season . if we break tgis season our lot of key players will gi
ReplyDeleteHang on didnt Danny Graham play in a similar style to Carroll at Swansea when BR was there last year?
ReplyDeleteWhy do you have to play long ball just because you have a target man in the side? Well the answer is you dont. Carroll has shown massive improvements over the last quarter of last season with holding up the ball waiting for a counter attack to start and then laying it off. Carroll can still be used in a BR system and im sure BR will assess this before any decisions are made.
Today some papers are saying "Rogers believes he will be failure at Liverpool" ..What a joke!
ReplyDeleteThere was nothing wrong in whatever Rogers said. Smear campaign against Liverpool and his manager is always on irrespective of whoever the manager is. No one mentions a word in media about Whisky nose. I won't surprise if something like Leveson or Libor scandal comes out in future. Bias and Injustice is way of life in Britain.
So often in the past JK was quick to blame Benitez for the failings of players, even coining the phrase "The Benitez Effect" to explain the struggles of Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch and Ryan Babel. However in this instance, despite our last manager showing obvious shortcomings and getting the sack, he lays blame entirely on the player. I have to say that I think in this instance Andy Carroll was absolutely not used in a way that maximised his natural ability. I can understand that KD wanted him to develop and grow as a player but even towards the end of the season Carroll would consistently get difficult touches in the front third and there would simply be no other attacking players near him to take advantage. Even when he started to show good form we were not playing a game that could ever have used him correctly. It makes me ask what KD was ever thinking when he bought the player. Did he think he could quickly make him into something he's not or did he simply not work out how to take advantage of the basic set of skills that Carroll already had? Or could it even be the case that KD had lost so much of his managerial mojo that he was simply unable to mould the team or the striker into what was needed?
ReplyDeleteShort answer from me being this: I think Rodgers should do what he's said he'll do and take some time to evaluate Carroll and see what he can offer. I think there is no question that Carroll struggled sometimes for circumstances that were beyond his control, while of course there were plenty of times when there was no one else to blame. What I'd like to see is a tactically shrewd manager at least make an effort to fit him into our plans. Give Andy a long pre-season where he has favourable conditions, a place to develop and all the help he needs to change if that's what is required. If the player responds then maybe we could all be surprised with what we see come the start of the new season. If not then at least we have until the end of August to send him out on loan.
Quite right.
ReplyDeleteThe "Rooney is sh!t" article was top notch.
You actually only need 8 players in the 25 man squad and they don't have to be British, just playing at a British club before they were 21. So the notion that we needed to buy Henderson because he was British to comply with rules is false. With the likes of Insua and Pacheco at the club we already complied with home grown rules. We bought Henderson, Downing, Adam and Carroll because Dalglish has a penchant for paying over the odds for overrated British players.
ReplyDeleteThey are not greedy they are just broke.
ReplyDeleteAndy Carroll will never be the best striker in the Premiership. Never. Ever. Ever. Ever. He scored two goals in the FA Cup and now he's bloody Henry. What about the 16 months before that where he couldn't trap a ball to save his life and caused the team to play some neanderthalic hoof ball game disguised as Football. Get real!
ReplyDeleteI think carroll showed us towards the latter part of last season what he can do plus with the added bonus of his great performance in the euros. For a young man who took alot of stick last season and to come back with some good performances tells me the man has alot of steel and can be unplayable on his day. We need people with a fighting spirit who want to prove themselves at the top and have the ability. Not sure i can say the same about downing or spearing (who appeared in the recent press conference - worrying if rogers thinks he's quality). I like many got fed up with carroll last season but in the end i reckon he has shown us what he can do if he gets good service......ie his great header for england in the euro's. Just remember its not his fault we paid 35m for him.
ReplyDeleteShut the fuck Jaime, u twat
ReplyDeleteMore than me "putting in some thought", I'd advise you to get better at judging football players.
ReplyDeleteI watched KD play, I'm still a big fan, but saying that, his approach with the press was offish at best, he never liked the press even as a player and would try and play games with them, problem is sometimes it would come across as abrupt or rude and that caused issues with the press, catch22 really, he disliked them, they became to dislike him ...
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't take the comments in this blog about KD as being disrespectful, KD was good at most things in football, talking to the press (or playing the press game) was not one of them :)
Hi Xxcell2010, Can't disagree with anything you said above but you spoiled it all with your last word. Am not Scottish but their use of the word "pal" can often precede the 'Glasgow kiss'. Excepting that I take your points. BUT Maxi and Kenny cannot complain they were dismissed without a fair hearing or should I say 'showing' in the case of players and managers.
ReplyDeleteSupporters rationalise (in most cases) between themselves on these websites but most of us are aware that what we say is of little or no consequence to the Boards or Managers of our clubs - how could it? Had they listened to me when the transfer window opened last January we would have signed Jelavic and Dempsey and played in the Champions League this coming season. :-)
The thrust of my complaints is against those cliques and cabals who seek to generate antipathy towards our manager or players. The Board are always fair game because they make the big decisions but we should not denigrate those who we expect to turn out on Saturday and win games.
Having said that it is preferable to vent your spleen here than to harangue the manager or his team at matches. I accept that.
To conclude, I am pleased that the vast majority of Liverpool fans have been very fair in their comments here and on the radio to Andy Carroll
The most effective tool of expression is always with the fans of any team and the great thing is in doing so the supporters maintain their dignity and integrity. What is that? You all know when matchday arrives and there is an abundance of red seats showing at Anfield it's only a matter of time before the incumbent manager and his Board act.
BUT LIVERPOOL CANNOT BEGIN TO CHANGE THEIR MANAGER EVERY SEASON OR THEY WILL SOON BE LISTED IN STUBBS GAZETTE - WE HAVE NO SHEIK OR OLIGARCH TO BAIL US OUT!
Insua was terrible and pacheco doesn't look like he's going to make it. I completely agree that Downing is rubbish and the price we played for him is laughable. And well Adam is a waste of space..He has such difficulty running it looks like hes constantly hungover or something. Also we payed about 20mil too much on Carroll and doesn't look like he fits how we play. But I'm just saying all the criticism on Hendo is harsh because hes going to be a good player. We did overpay on him however. Im just saying young guys like him need more of a chance. Look no further than Lucas. Every Liverpool fan, me included, used to moan any time he was on the team sheet and now hes arguably one of our most important players. I don't think we needed to sign that many players. That's not what I was saying. But we did need a couple of extra British players when Carragher and Gerrard are in the twilight of their careers. That's why i say give Hendo a break. Downing and Adam just never will be LFC standard. But many pundits also agree that Hendo will turn into a good player.
ReplyDeletethe news of the world esque headlines sucker you in for click ad revenue
ReplyDeleteAre you a Liverpool fan JK? Because you don't sound like the sort of person whoever gets behind the team. Putting down Kenny and Andy Carroll in one blog piece here. Slagging off Luis Suarez whenever the mood takes. Glad I never stand/sit next to you at Anfield. That would be a nightmare!
ReplyDeleteyou should support while he is a lfc player . end of
ReplyDeletejk's fan boy ;-)
ReplyDeletejk's fan boy !
ReplyDeleteAh, yes. I'm the only fan on the planet who criticises players. I'm sure you've never criticised an LFC player in your life. The hypocrisy of fans is amazing :-)

We should only sell or loan carroll if we need the money or can't afford the wages. As an earlier poster said city have four strikers, we are not flush with them. To strengthen the squad should be a priority. We should keep him and buy another striker, he can change a game, remember the cup final remember what happened to barca and tiki taka when they didn't have a plan B, or in this case a big plan C.....
ReplyDeleteCriticism due to a poor performance is fine Jaimie. Constant sniping because you have nothing else to write is just petty.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm... According to all the articles posted by Jaimie, I have to say what a thriller to have time to read about transfer activities/players etc.. Seriously, some people critisizing Jaimie should think twice. Just read and try to analyze what really Jaime is pointing out.. It doesn't need to be 100% spot on, but the basic theory of content is there.
ReplyDeleteAMEN!!!
ReplyDeleteIve been posting that about Carra for three long years as well. Either or I take your point.
ReplyDeleteSniping? Don't make me laugh. Every criticism I make is backed up with examples and reasoning. If I was criticising a player that you were also not a fan of then you wouldn't be calling it 'sniping'. It's the same old tiresome story: criticise players others love and you get attacked. Criticise those they don't rate and they agree with you. Funny that.
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of reading posts criticising the content of your posts. I find it ludicrous.
ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting for the 'real fans' out there to email me a copy of the 'supporters handbook' so I too can fathom exactly how I should be thinking and feeling.
There's obviously a copy out there so in the words of Delia "Lets be avin ya"
yes he did have a low pass rate but quite a few of those were flick ons when are team started to resort to long balls
ReplyDeleteso why is it alright for henderson to be kept and not carroll both show potential and we have plenty of midfielders
ReplyDeleteif thats your idea of a footballer then you are all supporting the wrong team .he is everything a footballer isn't a load of crap at least crouch could play a bit .
ReplyDeleteStrange for a manager to come in and say that he is considering moving on a team's record signing who appears to be improving. This idea that Carroll cannot perform in a passing team is not right, in my opinion. More to the point was that the people we have in the team to supply chances for him were not up to it. How many England internationals, who did well in the Euros as well, get sent out on loan? And he is going to replace him with who?
ReplyDeleteLike Hodgson, I am not overkeen on managers going out and simply signings players that they worked with before. Just as this is not Fulham, this is not Swansea either. Don't these managers know any other players?
Personally, I'd like to see Carroll stay, just as he is looking better and starting to become an England regular (for the squad at least) it would be daft to try to move him on now. We've already lost enough on Aquilani loan deals, now our record signing is going to be going out on loan. If the manager does not fancy the player in his system, and can't think of how to create a system that would work with him in there, try to find a 20 million buyer and get rid. Notice that Milan are sniffing around again. What is it with Italian clubs and freebies?
totally agree. To sell a current England international who offers something different is just plain daft to me. Not to mention, in case the manager was not watching, that Carroll was the best of the recent signings bar Suarez. Henderson, Adam and Downing should be looking at the exit before him. And we have more midfielders than strikers to spare.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying Carroll should go. He does have great potential, but its a question of whether he can fit into B.Rods system. If he thinks he could use him then Carroll should stay. If he doesn't think he can fit his 'pass and move' philosophy he should go. Liverpool need to choose a system and get the right players for that system.
ReplyDeleteI thought football as about having options all over the pitch. It is stupid to have just one way of playing, you need variation and it should not forgotten in the clamour to salute and copy the Spanish/Barcelona way of playing that the ball in the air to a striker is a legitimate tactic.
ReplyDeleteBearing this in mind it would be negligent folly to loan Carroll now bearing in mind he has confidence and is fully fit.
We should not even be thinking about loaning out a £35m asset. It would be more stupidity as was the loan of £17m Aquilani.
I believe the facts are that we win more times than we lose when Andy C starts the match.
I thought KK was funny in most of his media handling
ReplyDeleteHi JK,
ReplyDeleteI pop into your blog now and then and I must say I find your posts very interesting as well as the the comments that follow. Awesome nickname by the way :).
But may I add my 2 cents of insight to these discussions.
1) Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Sharing it is good as it provides an opportunity to learn... as long as that's the spirit of intent... to learn. To understand more. An opinion shared for the sake of it isn't particularly helpful to the owner. Its good to share strong opinions... but even better to share it with the intent to welcome input that can help you see other angles and perhaps learn more.
2) Its hard for strong opinions and humility to live the same space. It takes a strong character or 'the bigger man' to make that work. If an opinion is shared, and inputs to it uncover something worth learning, it's good to acknowledge it... even openly accept to the other party that you've come to realise a part of your opinion was slightly inaccurate. And thank the person. Such humility endears people to you and fosters a spirit of learning and growth. Face to face relationships could even develop from such a community. JK, on occasion you've done this and I applaud that. But I believe its way too infrequent to suit the emotional and subjective nature of football and football forums. In line with your ethos on improvement which you stated earlier, you would agree with me that this is something that could be improved.
Nonetheless, I would like to thank you for providing a platform for LFC fans to commune. Running a blog takes time and effort and its appreciated. :)
YNWA
get so tired of reading 'so called' lfc fans writing as if they have never seen a football match. henderson rubbish ? downing rubbish ? carroll rubbish ? its pathetic. I hope liverpool do not sell andy carroll. he finished the season in great style and played really well at the euros. people writing here about playing tika taka football, well if we can sign messi, iniesta, xavi etc, it might work for us lol. last year we went back to our traditions with 'pass and move' football that was easy on the eye but didn't bring the results we hoped for.. all you lot do is moan. you moaned about rafa, hodgson , kenny, and rogers will be no different. you have turned into terminal whining whingers sounding more like man utd fans everyday. can't you just grow up and support the players, the manager, and the club ? do you understand what you'll never walk alone means?
ReplyDeletesome days i pity the players when our world famous fans have turned into mushy peas.
sure, and the media really deserve respect right ... phone hacking, muck stirring, trouble making, 'anything for a story', who cares if its true if it sells, ... maybe they should have respected kenny, luis suarez, our club ...... or in general the peoples lives and families they ruin ? Respect ? The media ? surely thats a contradiction. they respect nothing ...
ReplyDeleteso Danny Graham, big target man, top scorer at Swansea i think, obviously didn't fit his style of play ? just wish you would all get off carroll's case, and hendersons. lucas had to put up with the same s**t from so called fans
ReplyDeletethis is not an objective comment in any way, similar to the people who were calling him a donkey after ten minutes of his first game. over-critical to the point of just being a verbal gbh ! one-sided, disrespectful, and using the odd selected statistic as evidence of something that bears no resemblance to reality
ReplyDeletewhy not ? his point is very reasonable. When we signed Le Tallec and Pongolle they were considered to be the hottest property youngsters in European football. So it was a sound and worthy decision to sign them. They did not fulfil their potential. that's a fact .... with hindsight. Carroll has awesome potential. And he might break his leg next week and never truly recover his form. You take a chance, even with supposedly 'proven' players. Morientes failed for us, Forlan for united, Shevchenko for Chelsea.....etc etc. We just hope, support, and wish the lad all the best, and hopefully have the good sense to not sell or loan ....
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely top comment. He deserves support not rumour. If we sell him or loan him out, will be a very very stupid decision .....
ReplyDeleteThe Graham-Carroll comparison is erronious, and somewhat lazy:
ReplyDelete* Graham is technically and tactically superior to Carroll.
* Graham's first touch and balance are also superior.
* Graham grabbed 12 league goals and two assists last season (1 goal every 2.5 games), compared to Carroll's 4 goals and 2 assists (1 goal every 5.7 games)
* 50% of Graham's shots were on target, compared to only 35% of Carroll's.
* Like Carroll, Graham played in the Championship before coming to the Premier League. In 2010-11, Graham grabbed 26 goals and 11 assists for Watford, compared to 19 goals and 8 assists for Carroll during Newcastle's promotion season.
Graham is a better player than Carroll. The stats prove it. Rodgers bought Graham because he could see he had the technical ability to fit into his style of play. There is no way Rodgers would've bought Carroll, which is why he's suggested that Carroll could go out on loan.
Carroll deserves the support of the club and the fans. The same hypocrites saying 'you have to give Rogers time' who think getting rid of Andy is a good idea ? they're clueless
ReplyDeleteso let his succeed at Liverpool. he should not be sold or loaned, he should be a liverpool centre forward for years to come
ReplyDeleteWhy will it be a stupid decision? Carroll scored 4 league goals last season. How will he be missed. Since when does one month in a year define an entire season?
ReplyDeletewe should keep both. both will do well and deserve support not this constant ignorant barrage of criticism
ReplyDeleteHey Mitszu - I hope he's not at LFC next season, but if he is, I doubt he'll be more than a squad player, just like for England during Euro 2012.
ReplyDeletewe signed henderson because he is an excellent player for our future. unfortunately the idiots who abused lucas before realising the error of their ways have now decided to pick on henderson. try supporting our players and it might help. 'you'll never walk alone' mean anything to some of you lot ?
ReplyDeletestupid comment. the only absolute joke must be Tornike. Henderson AND Carroll will be good for Liverpool and should not be leaving, either sold or loaned, they should be playing
ReplyDeletewe hav to give carroll another chance and hope ha cud keep him
ReplyDeleteUnder Benitez, if fans said the following to you, would you just agree?
ReplyDelete"Dossena should not be sold - he should be the Liverpool left back for years to come!"
Holding onto players who are manifestly unsuitable for the club is a surefire way to promote under-performance. Perhaps you should stop being obsessed with the individual and objectively consider whether Carroll is the player for Brendan Rodgers' style of football.
the best solution then that nobody comes here and just let him blog to himself ?
ReplyDeleteyou have 'argued it countless times' and yes, it sounds stupider every time you say it. a real nonsense comment if ever there was one ....
ReplyDeletethink this is a very poor biased comment, posing as being objective. selling or loaning Carroll would be a crazy thing to do. He finished the season finally playing more often, getting back his strength, his confidence, and his goals, which continued into a good showing at the Euros. Throwing away good assets never makes sense for any business.
ReplyDeleteif they would let me, i would click 'like' 35 million times. Andy Carroll, LIVERPOOL CENTRE FORWARD FOR YEARS TO COME, or we have lost the plot
ReplyDeletebiased absolute nonsense. specsavers for Andy
ReplyDeletePhil - why is Chappo's comment biased? Because you disagree? Every fan is biased; it goes with the territory.
ReplyDeleteCarroll finished the season playing better - what about the other 8 months of the season?! One month does not define an entire season. Why do you ignore Carroll's poor performances throughout the rest of the season?
IMO, Carroll played better at the end because the Euros were coming up, and he wanted to get into the England team. Why else would he suddenly buck up his ideas?
He's not good enough for LFC. His stats show that and watching him play shows that.
Phil - this is the last time I'm going to tell you this. Please stop belitting the comments of others by calling them 'stupid'. Any further comments like this will be deleted.
ReplyDeleteagree, are we forgeting we have to play thursday night football this season.carroll will get plenty of chances this season. also liverpool has the worst crossers in the league and we never flood the box so carroll becomes easier to handle. if gerrard plays on the right and another good crosser on the left carroll should really benefit. in a 433 with suarez and maxi or bellamy or whoever comes in carroll could do well. last season every time he played he spent most of his time as the only liverpool player in the attacking third of the pitch even messi would struggle in that set up. dont be so quick to want rid of guys we may really need cos we really could have done with aqualani and miereles last season. also if carra starts in the league were done for skrtyl and reina dont trust him anymore and you can see it their so much better when aggar is fit.
ReplyDeletei think we are seen as a bit of an easy touch in italy and the media. who ever said carroll was going on loan nobody. rogers said he spoke to andy who knows exactlywhere he stands. that will do for me.
ReplyDeleteagree with you
ReplyDeleteRodgers didn't actually said anything about Carroll. However, vague insinuations can draw interest from the media and other clubs. That is not necessarily bad as long as Rodgers has firm ideas about what the club needs and how it will achieve his goals.
ReplyDeleteInferior league....hrmmmm....the fact is England was no match to Italy lately!!! Mancini won the EPL and De Mateo won the CL, all Italian!!
ReplyDeleteHe inherited a champion winning team from Fagan.....and over 20 years ago not many talented foreign players played in EPL!!! Liverpool in 80s could be whacked 5:0 by Man City nowadays.
ReplyDeletedid you do the same with poulsen and jovanovic?
ReplyDeletewell that's your opinion and your obvious mistrust of the media.i just think the way kenny behaved at times showed himself and the club in a bad light-why else would he have apologised for behavior not befiitting a lfc manager? the amount of times he acted ignorantly to pre/post match questions was silly.i have and never will dispute what he did as a player and manager.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree with some of your sentiments... I can't see the point in selling our most expensive signing at a time when his stock is at its lowest, even considering his 'half decent' outing in the Euros.
ReplyDeleteIf as you suggest we have no room for a player of Carolls technical ineptitude in the squad , then surely the most prudent thing to do business wise is to let him out on loan, hope he has a good season wherever he goes and hopefully take an exceptable hit on Britains most expensive player.
Personally I'd like to see him stay at least one more season.. if only to see what Rodgers is really made of as a coach.. If as many people believe(myself included) Rodgers is an excellent coach then surely this will test his mettle.
I think Rodgers can turn Carroll into the type of player that will fit into his system.. Caroll is young enough to learn and surely deserves at least another year at a time when everybody is talking about new starts and clean slates ..
What have we got to loose .. besides 35 million that is !!
The manager said: "I look at the young kid Jordan Henderson who got a wee bit of stick last year but do you know what? This is a boy who is 21 years of age. I thought when I first saw him at Sunderland that this kid is going to be a really good player. He's then coming out here for a bucket load of money; coming to a massive club, massive expectation. He moves away from home, he is on his own and he has to be a world-beater straight away.
ReplyDelete"It was never going to happen. But this kid can play football. He has got an incredible attitude."*Quote from Brendan Rodgers
Maybe it's resentment after whisking a couple of European Cups from under their noses......?!
