Just in: Brendan Rodgers provides exciting new update on LFC transfer activity...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has provided an interesting update on the club's current transfer activity.

During an LFC press conference this morning, Rodgers was asked about speculation linking Real Madrid's Esteban Granero with a move to Anfield.

Rodgers ducked the question by insisting that he would 'never speak publicly' about specific Liverpool transfer targets. However, he did reveal a few snippets of potentially exciting information. He said:

"We've made three or four enquiries for players.

"We we hope to conclude one deal this week, maybe two.

"A whole raft of players have been linked but I will never speak publicly about specific targets".

"There won't be lots of players coming in, just three or four tweaks. We con't have a barrell-load of money, and I want to work with and improve the players we already have here"

So, the club could potentially have two new players by the end of the week. Great news, the question is, who...?

One potential signing is Bologna star Gaston Ramirez. Over the weekend, two respected Uruguayan journalists - Rodrigo Romano and Edward Pinon - claimed that Liverpool would complete the signing of Bolgona attacker Gaston Ramirez.

Posting on his Twitter feed, Romano - a football journalist who works for channel VTV Uruguay - said:

"Based on the information I have, Liverpool will sign Gaston Ramirez this weekend for 20 million Euros"

Edward Pinon, the Editor of Uruguayan newspaper 'El Pais' also confirmed that Ramirez is a done deal, stating on Twitter that a fee of £16m (€20m) had been agreed.

Liverpool FC transfers - Gaston Ramirez

No announcements on the transfer yet but that doesn't mean a deal wasn't concluded behind the scenes over the weekend.

  1. hope he brings in G. Ramirez and A. Johnson

  2. Britsh Journo's are convinced Gaston Ramirez is not happening, but Italian and Uruguayan Journo's are saying it might. Dont know who to believe. I've heard on the grapevine that if Dalglish was still manager the deal for Raminrez would have been long wrapped up, but Rogers is looking elsewhere?

  3. Sell spearing downing sell adam and carroll . man city have 6 fowards buy balotelli gaston rameriz a defensive mid  . we need cover for stevie g because most of the last two years his been out and getting older Jonjo shelvey will be fantastic in his place showed some good games end of last year

  4. We need to act quickly if we are to secure the right players, at the right price. We cannot afford to loose out on targets like we have in the past. A signing or two this week will be positive news.

  5. Liverpool Echo are insisting Ramirez will not be joining us?, also saying Dempsey is unlikely!!!!....................hard to know who is a real target.

  7. Ramirez great news if true. Who's the other one. I'm liking what I'm hearing from BR. Welldone BR and good luck.

  8. This is brillant news hopefully its ramirez and another striker but also it maybe the real madrid midfielder..

  9. Echo denies the Ramirez link! Let's see what happens!

  10. sounds like the youth are going to get a chance for once...a'la Suso, Coady, Morgan, Sterling, Wisdom, Sama, flanaghan, Robinson and dare i say it; Pacheco??..

  11. remember the 'lavezzi to liverpool' nailed on piece once posted here? that was by a supposed expert who was in the know and look where he ended up.
as many sources saying this won't happen as it will.
im  more inclined to believe that granero is a bonafide target(see reports that Real turned our bid down).
is ramirez instead of sigurdsson? double the price and less proven in the EPL. id be more than happy to see ramirez brought in, although , for the same money, there are many many options and there is some risk attached.

  12. I just report what people say - I don't guarantee that what they say will come true. For example - Rodgers says that one or two signings may be concluded this week; if that doesn't happen, does that then make it wrong to have reported this in the first place?  No.  Transfers are never foregone conclusions, and things change on a daily basis.

  13. Did anyone notice that BR hardly gave Carroll a vote of confidence, when AC Milan was mentioned. I wonder if he is going to bomb him out????

    ReplyDelete
  14. yeah great along with balotelli man city probably give us aguero to and while we are at it sign van persie from arsenal and ronaldo from real madrid...... Zuco stop playing football manager

  15. Yes, totally avoided the question, and didn't provide any positive comments at all. Great :-)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I would be happy with any striker as long as he can score 20 league goals, don't think we need to sign a midfielder as long as we can keep Aquilani but quality wingers would be welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  17. why cant we do a part swap downing with ramirez

    ReplyDelete
  18.  because everyone apart from you knows that the day that AC milan try to sign carrol is the day that england win the world cup (which by the way will never happen)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh really??, wait and see!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ask Bologna why they don't want Downing???

    ReplyDelete
  21. Johnson's not good enough - not a team player!

    ReplyDelete
  22. And Ramirez is going to Porto!

  23. We need marquee signings at LFC. I`m sick of seeing average players coming to our club while our rivals are signing better players every season and we wonder why we are always lagging behind. This season our rivals have already signed some pretty big names:
    Man utd: Shinji Kagawa
    Chelsea: Marko Marin, Eden Hazard
    Arsenal: Olivier Giroud, lukas Podolsk
Even tottenham who just got their new manager a few days ago has already made two new signings. If we want to challenge them we cant sign players from relegated teams or rejects from other teams or good players from smaller teams. We need quality players only, we already have enough squad players like downing, henderson, caroll and company.
Hopefully Brendan Rodgers will get it right and we can finally move forward.

  24. It seems that we are taking our own sweet time with any transfer dealings, the longer there is no movement IN or OUT..i will remain very wary, dreading seeing us play again tbh, last season was just diabolical for many different reasons, what bothers me most is that we still have quite a few players on our books who quite clearly let the previous 2 managers down.....

Why are we taking so long?, we NEED a clear out...and we NEED some decent signings to address some of our "issue's" within the squad, failure to address these issue's will no doubt leave Rodgers with the same problems that faced Roy and Kenny....another dire episode of underperforming players etc and we (along with the new manager) will be well and truly fcuked.....

To say that i have lost faith in the current set up is a gross understatement, whilst we still have certain players on our books i will have absolutely no belief that things will improve....Rodgers, as things stand, will be the next manager casualty at LFC, is all.

    Fingers out FSG ffs...

  25. What are you 12 balottelli get you upset he killed euros they have 6 fowards they are trying to off load tevez and dzeko already for van persie so its out there but not so mad just your narrow minded or 12years old

    ReplyDelete
  26. My argument was not against you or the site JK, merely about transfer gossip. it reminds me of the old harry enfield character who used to reply 'some bloke down the pub' when asked where he had heard some far out information. always made me chuckle.

Of Jovetic and Ramirez, both are equally exciting and id be happy with either, or both! however, Ramirez seem's the more likely of the 2 due to the homeland connection with luis and sebas.
knowing our luck we'll end up with some championship plodder that's british , 'full of potential' and who came top of the assists league last season.

  30. And Wigan have made a 150 million bid for Messi. Deal is supposed to be close and to be completed next week

Even if MC would sell Balotelli, it would be for way way more than we could afford, and that's without taking wages into account, and realistically he would only move to a CL club

Look at all the players Wenger has signed over the last 10 years (or however many it is), there have been very very few "marquee signings" and yet Arsenal have been consistently better then us over that same time period.

I think "marquee" should take second place to developing a good, FLEXIBLE system of play that can adapt to other teams weaknesses without being predictable and finding the right type of players who can play it well together.

If we discover marquee players to fit the system and we have the money then why not. They would add to the team strength and sell shirts.

Even commercially I think the style of play should come first as consistent performance on the pitch will obviously help consistent commercial performance. We're also more likely to keep the big money making marquee stars for longer too if our playing style is keeping us competitive, and so it creates a situation that feeds itself, allowing exponential growth in performance on the pitch and off it. Not rocket science really, it's what all the worlds top clubs have always tried to do with maybe the exception of Real Madrid and the Galacticos era.

  39. Imagine if we got both Ramirez and Jovetic (!) Dreamland.

    ReplyDelete
  40. maybe if we all donate a few quid we can xavi and iniesta too.

  45. Maybe because he is referred to as the "asian messi"...

  46. Betting odds on Dempsey joining liverpool on friday was 5/4 and today it's 4/6. If we believe in bookies' sources then it seems negociation has moved to an advanced stage. Not seen any betting offer on Ramirez's transfer though. Maybe bookies don't have sufficient info on Ramirez and they don't wanna take any risk!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I won't take gamble on trouble-maker Balotelli. We alrdy have short-tempered Suarez. Balotelli-Suarez it's a big risk bcoz defenders wud wind up these 2. Just imagine these 2 getting carried away and have a go at a defender. Can we afford 2 red cards at once, uh? By the way, after successful euro i think balotelli will cost atleast 50m. We dnt have any Torres to cash in anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Probably be the conclusion of selling someone the way things seem to be going.

I'm worried about Liverpool getting left behind here. I'm hoping BR isn't seriously banking on the likes of Adam and Joe Cole to contribute significantly.

If I had to bet, I'd say this deal will be Borini. Or Messi. It really is 50-50 at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yeah along with trouble-maker Balotelli we could also get Joey Barton, Nasri, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Not being able to sign top class players because we are not in champions league is ridiculous. Money talks in football, being in champions league or not is irrelevant.

    ReplyDelete
  51. if that happens, its definitely curtains for AC!

The more i hear about what rodgers is upto, the less i can see AC being first choice.
Signing Jovetic and Ramirez would be a massive statement, and all the more possible  if AC is palmed off for 20m somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh dear. he is one of the best and by far the superior of our 2 main CB's. loosing him would be bad. id rather MS was sold than fanny agger.

    ReplyDelete
  53. borini, granero ramirez or jovetic.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Jake i share your frustration mate. I think that our manager had had his heart set on bringing Gyfi Siggurdson over , so much so that he really did not take a long look around till it became clear to him and pretty much everybody else that his number one  target was not going to join him at Anfield. He spent too much time on Siggurdson and I believed the whole deal became a little bit of a distraction. Yeah under Kenny we were linked with Ramirez and I think he would have been Kenny's first choice signing. Seems like Rodgers is working to make Ramirez his first signing now that his first two options are no longer viable. I would like to see Rodgers conclude the signings quickly so that he can have more time with the new players in the off season.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Guess he isn't smarter than the average bear, after all.
    :(

  57. I just decided that I hate the Echo. I think  i will be planting explosives at their headquarters as soon as i figure out where that is.

    ReplyDelete
  58. When the manager changes, so naturally will the targets.

I heard that Lavezzi and Walcott were close to joining when Kenny was manager, but Rodgers will obviously have his own plans.

    ReplyDelete
  59.  I blame Kenny for Liverpool having little money and why our team is lacking real quality. The player United signed and the two Chelsea just signed Kenny had enough money to buy them all or young players of that quality, instead we're stuck with Carroll, Downing, Henderson and Adam, the funny or not so funny thing is them 4 players cost more than the players United and Chelsea just signed #Kenny you complete idiot..

    ReplyDelete
  60. Excellent post!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Or let AC go to AC on loan?

It may well do him the world of good, and if he turns out to be the player we all hope he will become, then we recall him.Just don't put a "first refusal" clause in, as the Eyeties will probably try and fleece us again.......

    ReplyDelete
  62. And because LFC were linked to him.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Granero is a better more experienced player than Ramirez imo.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I dnt think Sigurdsson saga has anything to do with us not having signed any player yet. Clearly the manager said that he wanted to have a closer look at all players currently available at liverpool. Having said so, i realise we only have couple of days of training so far and most of our regular starters are still on holidays. How can u sign players when u dnt knw which areas need to be strenghen? Secondly, i dnt think Sigurdsson was to be our only transfer target. For example, why didn't we get a striker (Borini maybe) simultaneously while sigurdsson negociation was on? For me, it means that being a new manager and euro competition  have forced the manager to delay his signings. For Anfield sake, no more quick fix buys like KD did.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I am hoping our first signing to be Jovetic and second one to be Ramirez.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Edward Piñon attributes his information to Alvaro Levrero - any idea who Levrero is?

Mainly because most of our Jedi manager is not yet skilled enough in the art of the Jedi mind trick.

    BR: oh......

    ReplyDelete
  74. that's mature.i'll give you a clue,their headquaters are in liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Dear Kevin if you take the time to read my written words you will see that i never said that Siggurdson was to be the only transfer target. I just said that he was a distraction. Rodgers's first order of business was to go after players he'd worked with. Which ofcourse makes perfect sense because he knew those players. Just not as much as he'd thought he knew them it turns out. Energy and time should be spend on players that actually want to come to Liverpool. Now forced to trudge on ahead he has identified Ramirez whom I think would be a great signing in loo of the new foot-ball strategy being introduced I think that he is a perfect signing.

Your comment about the manager needing time to evaluate the players sounds good , and appears to be logical but  yeah there is a "but." The reality is that while we wait for all the players currently on vacation to all come back be assessed and they will not all come back on the same day. Our possible transfer targets run the risk of being tapped up by other enterprising clubs. Unfortunatley there is a lot of competition for good talented  players with  clubs pursuing the same players in many cases. Ramirez has offers from Man City as well as another club so it is in our best interest to close this deal as soon as possible and not wait for Brendan Rodgers to meet all the players and asses them before we make any signings. The transfer window is the same length for every body. How organized you are as a team in pursuing your targets is up to you.

That being said Rodgers is at a disadvantage having just taken the reigns at a new club  right at the start of the transfer window. He has less time to do what many other managers have time to do with their squad and that is to develop a working relationship with his core team. The advantage of bringing in all the new players early is simply that to have more time with them in the preseason to fully asses them before games that count officially begin.

If you have a pulse you and you have followed any bit of news about Liverpool from last season you wouldn't need to see the whole squad assembled before you to know that we have need for a striker to compete with Carroll due to his inconsistent play all last season. You don't need to assess the whole squad to know that we need some reinforcements on the left and right side of midfield. Downing's performance leaves a lot to be desired and we have now lost Dirk Kuyt. Henderson is clearly not the answer to the right side of midfield. With a list before him of the players on the team and a list of their respective positions Rodgers can get an idea of where the team needs strengthening even before he conducts a training session.

  77. i agree. Spending from last summer affects our transfer budget this summer

    ReplyDelete
  79. i dont blame kenny for signing carroll it was last minute transfer to replace torres

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yeah i agree and its because of him that the owners are more reticent this time to give us money for transfers. The purchase of below par players at overinflated prices last season was a complete waste of their money. Our owners are businessmen and businessmen dont like investing money for nothing. Hopefully Brendan Rodgers willl be able to acquire a few gems with whatever funds he will get.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Amazing Jamie that you believe 2 journos from overseas, not questioning their intergrity, ahead of Neil Jones of the Echo. I believe the Echo, it's standards aren't as high as they once were but they won't say Ramirez is not coming this summer unless they've been given a tip off by the club. Imagine it Ramirez isn't coming and a week later there he is on the back page having signed, they'd be a laughing stock and they'd never be believed again. So Ramirez isn't coming, who will the player be? I'm not certain and if pushed I'd say Borini but it's only good news if they're top notch, after all do you think it was a red letter day when Downing signed?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Why is it 'amazing'? Why should I not believe these two journos? Don't you think they're more likely to be in a position to know whats going on with Uruguayan players? I do.

But Downing, Henderson and Carroll were all considered good team players weren't they?  Isn't it time for a change?  Isn't it time we started signing outstanding talent and begin integrating them into a team pattern rather than constantly walking down the road of buying "steady Eddy" players who will take us nowhere quickly.

We have enough natural team players on our books.......it's time for some natural talent.

  100. Seriously how many Spanish midfielders has Rodgers played in his midfield in his 3 previous clubs? He had one Orlandi who was a squad player, making 24 appearances, in 2010/11 but once Swansea got in the Premiership he became an afterthough only making 5 appearances , 2 of which were in the cups. Don't get me wrong I'd love a Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso (God we miss him), or Martinez (Bilbao) but why do we need to sign Spanish midfielders? It's not as though the Spanish invented the style they play, the Dutch did and Rodgers has got British players to play it successfully. If there was one player I saw at the Euros, and it was only on TV so I didn't see him without the ball, who'd suit us to the ground it was Moutinho who looked perfect in the deep lying playmaker role but it'd be a stretch to get him.
