'I'm annoyed!' - Angry Boss slams 'incredible' €10m star over LFC rumours...

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has reacted angrily to continued speculation linking star midfielder Victor Wanyama with a move to Liverpool.

The Reds have been linked with Wanyama several times over the last month, and Last week, Wanyama confirmed that Celtic had received 'many bids' for his services. The youngster's regular public comments on the issue have irritated Lennon, who accused the Kenyan star of ignoring Celtic's club policy:

"I’m a bit annoyed with the agent and player [Wanyama] for talking about club business while on international duty.

"I am not just singling out Victor on this but he knows the club policy, and I'm not happy about the way things have been dealt with.

"It does not surprise me that there is interest in Victor as he had an incredible season. We think he is a great player but as far as we are concerned Victor he signed a long-term contract"

Wanyama's agent recently stated that the 21 year old wanted to play 'at the highest level', and in an interview with the Daily Record recently, Wanyama confirmed his desire to move to the Premier League. He said:

"I think the Premier League is the dream of so many players, so I'd be happy to play there. There are a lot of good clubs in England, and it would not be a terrible thing for me if the club agree to let me go, and they were to get a good offer. I'm proud I'm the first Kenyan to play in the UK and I'd be very happy to be the first Kenyan to play in the Premier League"

With Lucas Leiva the only dedicated first-team defensive midfielder at Liverpool right now, signing a back-up/competition must surely be on Brendan Rodgers' agenda, and Wanyama looks like he has the potential to be excellent competition.

€10m [£8m]-rated Wanyama cost Celtic less than £1m a year ago so if Liverpool go in for him, a transfer shouldn't be too difficult to conclude.

  1. Wanyama would be a perfect signing for Liverpool.

  2. I cant be doing with all these "new" somebody players in the last few years we've had all sorts of "new" players but non of them ever live up to it, then best of all they take the 2 times they did anything good in a season and stick it on YouTube, I want videos with their average performances not the 2 times it came off

  7. Wanyama is a player with a great future. The african nations isn't going to be an issue either because kenya rarely qualify freeing him up to play all seasons. He'd be a great signing for the prem, physical and a good ball player and pops up with the odd goal. I'd drive him down to Liverpool for £8m though

  8. Kenya are shit though and rarely qualify for the ACN.

  14. I see quite a bit of Celtic living in Derry, trust me Celtic are the biggest club here by miles, and the lad is decent but it would be highly risky to sign him on the back of his 1st season in Scotland.  Last year Izaguirre (Celtic LB) was constantly linked with us after a good 1st year in Scotland, then he got hurt and when he came back he was utter garbage. Was this because his injury affected him or because he was found out? In my view he isn't worth the £8 million being talked about yet, if he carries on as he played this season it might be worth making a bid

  17. Scousers - He is too good for you lot.  Look at how Jellyfish has performed for the toffees and this guy Wanyama has real ability!
If he has any ambition, he should go to somewhere like Stoke, who lets face it, will be above Liverpool in the League next season!!!!  Chris Evans? Are you kidding? Stick to making a tit of yourself on the Radio you overpaid twat!

  18. when izaguirre came back from injury, after first 2 games he was back to his best, so get your facts right and why would wanyama join liverpool when he has the champions league to look forward too, something he may never get playing for liverpool, hail hail

  19. Champions league! Lol and how far do you ever get in that! The potential is the premier league not a one horse league like the Scottish pre
    - which is nis even more pony without rangers in it!

  20. further than liverpool thats for sure, are liverpool even in europe?

  21. SPL is shite, not surprised that he wants to move, Celtic wouldn't be able to cope in the Championship, and you can have your CL football, happily watch your team get thrashed by shitty teams. If you're lucky you might get a Europa League place, that's if you finish 3rd in the group of course which is very unlikely.

  22. wasn't to long ago we knocked liverpool out of europe, beat them home and away but you obviously have selective memory, cope with the championship? the way things are going down liverpool way, it could be them having to cope with the championship, hail hail

  23. The lad is good, solid and would make a good cover for Lucas, which is probably why we did not go for Diame, he is solid and would make a solid signing.  work permit? dunno if Info [guess Miss info cannot tell that the lad can play for us], great article again Jamie K, I did mention the lad way back and i am still holding my breath.

  24. Daniered i hope he stays with celtic but if you's do sign him, he's a very good player, comfortable on the ball, can play midfield or centreback, protects the ball very well and chips in with goals

  25. We need good ball playing DMF like Alonso. that can control games Not many of them about though at a reasonable price.

Stepping stone ALERT, Stepping Stone ALERT.

I see what happens here.  We sign him then in 2 years Real Madrid come calling and you see quotes from the lad similar to this

"I think La Liga is the dream of so many players, so I'd be happy to play there. There
are a lot of good clubs in Spain, and it would not be a terrible thing for me
if the club agree to let me go, and they were to get a good offer. I'm proud
I'm the first Kenyan to play in the UK and I'd be very happy to be the first
    Kenyan to play in Spain"

  28. Wuzz,
He will not qualify for a license to play in the EPL.There are minimum requirements. A work permit does not mean you can get any job.  Kenya are very lowly ranked in the World ratings. He has not played enough internationals either. He just got into Scotland due to our level of accceptance in the SFA . I know the person who trains all these youngsters in Kenya. He told me Victor was not the best but as he was adopted by a Belgium couple when he was in his teens and was living in europe, thus giving him a better chance than the boys still there. He needs more experience, maybe if Celtic go an run in Europe and he adds a few more caps to his belt, he will move on. Not this year.

  29. Hey wuss this muppet was responsible for taking wanyamas brother macdonald mariga from Kenya to sweden where he then went on to play in Italy and even featured under mourinho at inter. He couldn't get a work permit to go to Man city and neither will wanyama get one to go to liverpool The rule is you must have played a specific percentage of games for your country in the last 2 years. Additionally that country must be ranked in the top 70 in the FIFA rankings. Last time Kenya were anywhere near that was in 2002. EPL rules don't apply in the SPL quite obviously that is why lesser ranked players are able to play there. There are provisions to apply for special consideration but they are very rare and usually involve players of exceptional talent. I am aware of only 2 over the last half dozen years. Feel free however to continue to feed the rumour mill , it's funny watching everyone being an expert !!

  31. Look here im a LFC Celtic fan from the pool, propper scousers dont knock Celtic and propper Celtic supporters dont knock LFC, Its the player thats causing this s..t so why are we having a go at each other? i dont think thiers any truth in these rumours that LFC our interested in Wanyama? its just the media stirring things up again, Wayama and his agent need to stop fusing things and he should be more loyal to his team. if it was the other way around we would`nt like it.
