Andy Carroll to AC Milan? Liverpool fans give their verdict...

Will Andy Carroll be a big part of Liverpool's plans next season? Brendan Rodgers was asked that question in a press conference earlier today, and his vague response will not fill the 35m striker with much confidence. As regular readers will know, I have argued repeatedly that Carroll is wrong for LFC, and should be sold, and it appears that lots of fans - and possibly Rodgers - agree with this.

When responding to the Carroll question today, Rodgers suggested - quite rightly - that Carroll would have to prove himself and earn a place in the team. He said:

"Initially it's about assessing the squad, you never know until you come in. The pre-season is broken up due to the European Championship, but certainly come the start of the season I hope to have the squad that I can take through. It's a case of building a squad that can compete at the top of the table".

Rodgers also confirmed that he'd not had any contact yet from AC Milan over a potential transfer/loan deal. The Milan speculation arose when Pier Silvio Berlusconi - the son of AC Milan Owner Silvio Berlusconi - told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport:

"As a future target I’d like Andy Carroll. I must admit that for his body build, and after seeing his header in the Euros, I would like to have Carroll at Milan."

Carroll to AC Milan? Sounds like fantasy (!), but if that deal was on the table, it's clear that many Liverpool fans would be happy to see it go through.

I recently conducted a survey on the site asking if fans would like to see Carroll leave for Milan:

* Approx 7500 people voted.

* 54% of of participants votes YES to Carroll leaving Anfield.

Not a huge majority, but it's a majority nonetheless.

  1. BBC's Ben Smith reporting that Fabio Borini is the first Brendan Rodgers signing, for £8m...........................????

  2. a very small majority and although i voted for him to stay i understand the frustration with AC although in real terms he cost 10m the 35 m everyone spouts means expectations are so much higher.

  6. only 2 games last season swansea had less than 50% possession one was against wigan when they where down to 10 men the other was against united when they was going for the title 2nd to last game of the season

if he can do that with swansea look what he would be able to do with liverpool aexcept it would be useless against chelsea

  7. They have to buy him though. What's the point of a loan? Again?

  8. Wrong, it's Fulham's old codger Dempsey

  9. Everybody is being given a chance to impress the new manager from Aqualani to Cole. Doesn't Carroll deserve the same opportunity. He's just beginning to show what a good player he can be so getting rid of him now doesn't make any sense to me. I expect him to get another season at least.

  10. The story is a load of crap.  The son of Acs owner said he liked Carrolls physicality to an Italian paper and by the time a UK hacker got his dirty paws into it it was a forgone conclusion that AC would be signing him, now everyone thinks it's true. It's Not.

35m price tag is a fake figure... real net cost to the Reds was 17.5m not including any over inflated profits from the excellent Torres deal I have it on very good authority that 17.5m would have gone to the Tory tax bastards that govern us If Andy Carroll`s "goal" v Chelsea would have stood and we went on to win the game Kopites would be singing a different tune. He is still a useful asset in the Prem league which has a high % of goals scored from set pieces. He needs the service and I`m sure BR is aware of that. He is bound to say everyone has to earn their place .If I was a professional player I would expect no different form a new manager.

  15. If Milan want AC, ask them to stump out £35m, no loan deals with these muppets. They never stick to their part of the deal anywhere, always wanting players on the cheap (Aqua man)!

  16. All British Newspapers reporting Andy Carroll is finished at Liverpool, Rodgers has axed him.....................100% fact!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. They've made a mug of us once over Aquilani and now want another of our assets on loan. Jog on Milan. Jokers.

I know the author dislikes Carroll but as he actually regained some form - it would be stupid to let me him. I think he will come good.

  18. Carroll will be the new Aquilani, on permanent loan!!!!!!

  19. Gladiator 33316 you are an idiot! If you can't get behind your team and manager than you should p*** off and support Chelsea or Man City. LFC are starting a new chapter. What is required is patients and the great support that we are known for, not negativity. I just hope Brendon Rogers is given the time to implement his philosophy, as I can see us dropping points at the start of the season, while the players adapt to the new system.

  20. I can't see Carroll going to AC Milan, though i am surprised IF its true that Rodgers doesn't want him or has axed him as has been said on here.

At the moment i think Carroll is worth 20mil, ffs if Darren Bent was sold for 18-20 mil then i think we should be looking at that as a minimum...i don't see why we can't keep him tbh, whilst i can see the argument against keeping him i still think he has the potential to be a big prem player due to his physicality etc, judged on last seasons performance alone though he does come up short but for sure we had problems which IMO went way further than just Andy Carroll last season....

    I'd keep him.

  21. the only reason Cole has a clean slate is because he worked with Rodgers in the past otherwise he'd be gone. Alberto on the other hand is still at Liverpool because the club couldn't sell him. It doesn't hurt that he is more technically gifted than Adams, Downing, Henderson and a lot of other regulars . That may actually be his saving grace because he is supposed to take to this new system like a duck to water. In Italy and other leagues the game is played at a slower pace with emphasis on possesion and passing .

  22. i have enjoyed attacking Carroll even while Kenny was still the manager. It had become a bit of an addiction   really. It was funny to see how often people defended him and made excuses for him yet a veteran player whom cost much less and also comes from America was tearing it up at Fulham (you guys know whom i am talking about). Kenny didn't do Carroll any real favors by defending him so much. With a new manager it just means that these expensive flops now have to earn playing time. They have nobody who will be watching their backs and defending them at press conference after press conference.  Rodgers has come out and said any player that doesn't work hard to achieve champions league foot-ball will be shown the door. That has to be a warning for chronic under performers like Henderson, Downing, Enrique, Carroll ofcourse etc. These players were repeatedly rewarded for bad performances with starts while players like Maxi Rodriguez and Kuyt were relagated to the bench. Maxi scored more goals as a sub than Carroll did as a starter. With BR the playing field will be truly level. I think we are seeing that with BR's comments concerning Andy Carroll

  23. Andy Carroll is a young strong English striker who is only just learning his trade, he has potential and he is a great option to have. It is far too premature to be ending his Liverpool career, the same way it was too premature to have ended Kenny Dalglish's career at Liverpool after only one full season. We need stability at Liverpool not an endless conveyor belt of too many players in and too many players out. I expect all the current squad to be given a chance under the new regime not just the players Rodgers has had dinner with.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think AC can fit in to BR's style of football. If they are not going to move him, then more likely he'll start on the bench and being used sparingly. He is too expensive to go out on loan or rot in the reserves. We should put him up for sale at 10 mill pounds and re-invest the whatever amount we get for some other players. He was not a success under KD and neither is he going to be under BR. I'm sorry but he's just not meant to be.

I just cannot wait to see if we can get a set of 2 new strikers, a winger and an attacking midfielder. If we have a lack of funds for these new players, we should let AC, SD and JH go and recoup any amount we can get for these dudes.

Go! Get the new season going!

Danny graham fit into Br's system.  Same type of player, height and Build.  I'm not saying BR will or should keep Carroll, just highlighting the fact he bought a player extremely similar to Carroll last summer.

    ReplyDelete
  26. BR's comments on Carroll spoke volumes. He didn't even try back him up at all. It was clearly a back step from what he said about Spearing and other academy youngsters being given a chance to earn a spot.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I didn't vote in the original poll and therefore it is null and void.

I trust this article will be deleted.

    ReplyDelete
  28. What's the point of keeping AC if he does not fit into BR's policy. Cut our losses and sell him. The money can be utilized for new players.
LFC should never do business with Milan. Cheap fcuking skates.

  29. It could be Ramirez.

    ReplyDelete
  30.  Loan him out and get this other young talent and of course Ramirez im not very keen on Dempsy he's age is no good for team development fair enough he might be on his peak but for 29yrs its a doubt for me but for the 6 mil it might turn out to be a good buy.....

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't mind Carroll going on loan but AC Milan are thug. They made sure Aquilani didn't play enough games so forceful buy out close is not activated and tried to negotiate his value lower than decided in loan deal.
Milan will want Carroll for free for a year who will be made to sit on bench and will be used in case of Zlatan not fit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i would rather keep Carroll. especially if we are signing an Italian to try and replace him. Dossena, Aquilani spring to mind. Very few successful Italians in PL. We should all be careful what we wish for.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't think Carroll should be loaned to a team like Milan, if its a permanent deal then i don't mind but loaning him to Milan makes no sense because he would be bit part player there too as he won't start ahead of Ibrahimovic, so why should Liverpool loan him out when they are getting nothing in return. I would prefer Carroll to be bit part player at Liverpool than at any other team but if some team can offer him a chance to play week in week out then i think he should be loaned out but only after Liverpool have bought enough strikers to compensate.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Milan should not take this deal, try Tevez again Galliani or focus on Nesta's replacement. We aldready have Ibra, Cassano, Pato and Robinho, we dont need this guy. Milan should only go through on this deal on one condition, loan deal with option to buy after a certain number of games like Aquilani and if he does well then we will see otherwise send him back like Alberto. For those of you saying Milan is a cheap club, look at your own club first, we have clever marketing techniques and dont pay huge sums for just anyone, whilst your club has made massive mistakes and now is fighting for European spots (5th and 6th). Liverpool was a great club but now sorry to say your an average team. FORZA MILAN!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I couldn't care less how much he costs it's his wastefulness in possession and rapist's touch that put me off.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I wouldn't ever refer to Carroll as an asset.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Good. Get the right player back where he belongs and the wrong one as far away as we can.

    ReplyDelete
  38. again being fair AC wasnt the only player last season to be wasteful in possession or to lack touch at times that could be levelled at the entire squad. As I said he is frustrating. Also again being fair, the service he got from midfield was woeful, the wing play was awful and he didnt really get a run in the team. But at times he did make a difference, and for 10m he is a good player to have on the bench when BRs new style of play needs changing during a game

    ReplyDelete
  39. No you are crooks at Milan a real shoddy effort on the Aquilani deal dont worry though everyone knows and less and less clubs want to deal with Milan.
Cassano is rubbish too mate we all watched the Euros andIbra would be retired from a better league and Robinho is over rated.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You Liverpool supporters have it all wrong, we had him for a year (where he was injured for long parts of it), now we could pay the 6M and take him permanently but why should we when we have found a perfect replacement in Riccardo Montolivo who is just as good if not better, is not injury prone and has joined on a free transfer. The Aquilani deal was a loan (meaning we had an option to buy after 25 games, he played only 22 because of injuries and better players like Nocerino, Emanuelson in the line up!). It is easy to understand why Milan dont want him, we did the same with Ibra who proved himself so we bought him so dont say we are crooks because the deal Milan did was legit and Liverpool understood the agreement that it had to be 25 games!
Now for your insults on our squad, Ibra alone is probably worth more than all your squad (bar Gerrard), Cassano help lead Italy to the final so I dont know what you were watching and yeah okay Robinho is not the best around. Milan is not stupid to pay 35M for a relatively unknown striker, we dont buy players for 80M, 50M, we get them at a good price, Sheva, Kaka, Pato, Ibra, Nesta. MILAN PER SEMPRE PER TE!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Agreed.  Especially while Carroll has hit some form.  For every season he's loaned out, his pricetag will drop dramatically.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can't understand why a rebuilding team like us would sign Clint Dempsey - a 29 year old who just had one good season.  He'll really only have two years to give us tops before he fades off and goes to play in the MLS for a paycheck.  We should be going for the likes of Borini and Ramirez, two young hungry strikers with a lot of years ahead of them.

  44. Milan are absolutely brilliant in the transfer market.

They had us off over Aqua (which is galling but we would love it if it was the other way round) and it is great business to bring in Montolivo to replace him. Milan seem to do well in Bosmans, picking up Mexes last year.

AC sold Kaka and Sheva for loads once they were past it after acquiring them for a much smaller fee and took Thiago Silva from relative obscurity and he is now the most valuable (in theory) centre-half in the world.

Cassano isn't crap, he is an excellent and intelligent player (on the pitch) which England would build their team around if he was from these shores...and Milan got him for next to nothing.

The number of great transfers by Milan in recent years is mind boggling. They got Ibra for £20mil a year after he cost 3 times that much and got Robinho for about half of what City paid. Pirlo was an Inter reject, Nocerino was a former Juve reject (and cost less than £1mil) and Kevin Prince Boateng was a Tottenham reject.

When Milan have spent big, like with Pato, it seems well spent with him having a near 1 in 2 goal/game record  in spite of his injuries.

Now they might be about to pick up a £35mil striker on loan.

    Liverpool should look and learn.

  45. No one has it wrong you lied you said u intended to buy him lying is ok in Italy is it?
To make matters worse u squeezed every minute the contract would allow out to avoid buying him yes everyone sees what you do no one will want to deal with you.
I laugh at Serie A and how passionate you all reckon you are yet no one attends games thus your clubs are broke.
If anything u fellas need to look to the Bundesliga where they really do put their money where their mouth is.

    ReplyDelete
  46. any news on gaston ramirez???

    ReplyDelete
  47. Milan never lied, you knew the conditions of the contract. Serie A fans are passionate but because of stadiums, the grounds are not full, but in the big games they do fill and the atmosphere is electric. Look at Juve for example, they have made a new stadium and since then the ground has been full every single match so yes Italy has a problem with stadiums, nothing about being passionate. If you watch the Champions League games in the knockout rounds, you can see the atmosphere, truly amazaing. As for the clubs, being broke, Italy has a different system with TV rights compared to England which is one reason why English clubs are richer but you have to look at the debt also, Milan is hardly in any debt, Man Utd, Liverpool are all in huge debt. Whilst we fight for our league and in Europe, Liverpool is struggling to stay in the top half of the Premier League. FORZA MILAN!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. No, I'm for Carroll staying. I think he is the best player of his type in the country and still has shown enough to get a lot better. Maybe not justify his fee but enough to justify not taking a huge loss on what we paid for him.

    ReplyDelete
  49. still crooks, though. sorry. Once someone plays 22 times, I think that it is fair to expect the club might sign him. And Aquilani missed a lot of games towards the end of the season through 'injury' but no one is quite sure what the injury was. Ibrahimovic is good but not worth more than our entire squad, unless Berlusconi is doing the negotiating, of course.

You may call it good dealing, I would say that we should not deal with Milan again unless they are paying something up front this time.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well Milan dont want any of your players and you couldnt even afford half of ours so I think we wont be dealing again.
