'Not good enough' - Angry ex-Liverpool boss blasts 'lacklustre' Reds...

Roy Evans is (IMO) one of the fairest ex-Reds out there when it comes to analysing Liverpool FC, and to his credit, he always tells it like it is, and very rarely sugarcoats reality. Evans was aghast after Liverpool's defeat against Swansea yesterday, and slammed the team for letting down the club once again.

Analysing the game for LFC TV last night, Evans criticised the players for 'relinquishing responsibility' on the field, and admitted that he 'couldn't get his head around' the fact that Liverpool had lost 14 league games this season.

On the Swansea game specifically, Evans dismissed suggestions that Liverpool were unlucky, adding:

"It was very disappointing, and it epitomised Liverpool's season and the way we've been: lacklustre. You can give me all the stats in the world about hitting the woodwork, but striking is part of the game, and you've got to score goals, and we haven't done that.

"It [the Swansea game] was a great opportunity for Liverpool to finish the season on a bit of a high, but unfortunately, they couldn't do that. We've been average, and it's good eneough for Liverpool Football Club".

Liverpool failed to win 64% of league games this season (24 out of 38), which is quite staggering when you think of the money that's been spent on the team over the last 18 months.

14 league defeats? It's bad, but it seems to be a cursed number when it comes to Liverpool managers and their first full seasons:

* Rafa Benitez's LFC team lost 14 league games in 2004-05 (Finished 5th)
* Gerard Houllier's team also lost 14 league games in 1998-99 (Finished 7th)

Since Liverpool last won the title in 1990, only the criminally underrated Evans has bucked the first-season disaster trend; in 1994-5, Evans took Liverpool to 4th in the table in his first season, an improvement of 14 points on Graeme Souness's catastrophic final year at Anfield.

  1. It's good we lost the final game, as that will serve as a reminder of what this season really was, during all mid-season. Had we won it, there would've been lot of "signing off on a high" and "kicking off the next season like we finished off the last" b******t from the official website propaganda.

  2. It was
emphasized many times that the most embarrassing and humiliating season LFC had
since 1959 was a result of Kenny Dalglish’s poor decisions he had made on
transfers and his poor tactical nous.
Out there a minority tries to charge the blame to anybody else instead
of the real responsible.  It was also
emphasized many times, even by Kenny Dalglish, that LFC is bigger than any
individual, which simply means that we need to put the team even ahead of
legend figures!  If we really want to see
this historic club progressing we need to be able stepping aside our emotional
factor and stop acting as idolaters.  Kenny
Dalglish owes to LFC and not LFC to him and as soon as we all realize it the
better.  As we can better absorb with
this idea let us touch point with the following important aspects:

    1.
On 19th of April 2012 koptalk publicized an
article emphasizing the following statement, “A club
insider recently told us by email: 'Owners were due back this week, supposedly
to meet the rest of the backroom staff and have 1 to 1 style meetings on
    performance etc.  Brukner and Comolli
were huge shocks to staff, but someone is protecting himself by basically
telling the Americans they needed to go.
'As I said, this may be the calm before the storm. The semi may have
bought a few people a stay of execution until the end of the season. 'All I can
say is there is a lot of unrest behind the scenes at the moment, between the
staff and a lot of worry about their jobs. Some of these guys have young
families and aren't on mega bucks.  'The
summer could be carnage for staff changes.'”

    2.
We should all start wondering; WHO IS THIS “STAFF” WHO
IS MISINFORMING THE AMERICANS AND HE IS TRYING TO SAVE HIMSELF AND DAMAGE LFC?

    3.
Before our last game against Swansea Kenny Dalglish
declared, “We have had a good season and we are hoping to leapfrog Everton on
    the last day.”

    4.
    WOW!  NOW I AM
ASKING ALL LFC FANS TO DECIDE WHETHER THEY CHOOSE KENNY DALGLISH’S “GOOD
SEASON” OR REAL GOOD-SUCCESSFUL SEASON WITH CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL!

    Now, if
those who still insist to give Kenny Dalglish one more season don’t realize
that he is the real responsible of the most embarrassing and humiliating season
LFC had since 1959 and that there is no way to get things right, then they
should reconsider how deeply they understand football!

  6. Kenny should be ashamed of defending even after such horrible season. I see his interviews and feel this can not be the man with a winner's mentality! He always has an excuse to defend himself and team after a poor game.

Time for Kenny to go! Enough is enough!

  10. Words really do fail me after this season & let's face it we've all seen some bad times over the past 20 odd years.

The worrying thing for me is what players are we going to be able to recruit to move us forward - both in a financial sense & giving players an incentive to play for us rather than just because of who we are/history.

We have to be realistic - yes we have a trophy which is more than our friends down the East Lancs Road have but would we trade positions? I believe yes we would & we would be mocking them if roles were reversed.

They will be realistically linked with the likes of Hazard whilst we will be looking at bargain basement but paying inflated prices. We have fallen a long way behind the top 4 now & to an extent even Newcastle.

Previous summers we have spoken about last pieces of jigsaw to take us to title contenders, the decisions made this summer are the most critical I believe in my 35 years of supporting this club. 16 pts off relegation whilst 37 pts off the top - what we do this summer in terms of decisions that need to be made & recruiting will determine which of those gaps lengthens & which one shortens.

  11. Liverpool press conferences are cringeworthy and an embarrasment. Dalglish may of been a great player but he would of never made a living as an after dinner speaker.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Evans is the man who defined for me 'the Liverpool way', and is what I expected/hoped to see represented by Dalglish likewise - classy and humble in or defeat, accountable for his teams perfomances without resorting to arrogance or excuses, and dedicated to an attractive brand of football.

Suffice to say, for me, Dalglish has fallen short of those expected ideals...

    ReplyDelete
  13. Who do we support LFC or Kenny, are we throwing away the LFC way ''No individual is greater than the Club'' Bill Shankley.. Kenny lied to the Owners about Comolli and the rest of the board, why is it still impossible for the idolators to relate to our dismall season, Aquaman sent out, Joe Cole sent out cos Kenny wants to buy British, Kenny is having a laugh...He knows that you will be shouting his name all the time....Rafa was and will always be better than Kenny.... There is going  to be changes and the Americans WILL TAKE ACTION IF THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, they inherited Kenny who was brought to the club by Rafa, got Roy fired and now continuously give 'stupid' excuses, enough you will never have a 'LIVING' legend, SO PPLE WAKE UP.  Kenny has to go now!You are a proper supporter CostaY no need to be loyal to Kenny, we are loyal to LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Roy is absolutely right, the whole season has been pitiful.

I know there are those who point to the Carling Cup as representing progress but I'm sorry, it doesn't cut it for me, especially since Cardiff gave us a proper run for our money.

Liverpool have been lacklustre and woeful for most of the season and that is a result of bad management and bad signings.

Kenny Dalglish (although a legend) is a big part of the problem. Football has left him behind and the way he gets so tetchy when people legitimately ask him about why we've been so bad is just plain embarrassing. His tactics are dated, his signings have been shocking and his inability to respond to what's happening in front of his eyes is genuinely worrying.

We are miles away from even being a good side and I have no hope whatsoever for next season.

  16. To be fair, Arsenal in 3rd, finished 19 points away from City/Utd. We were 17 points from "fourth", not good enough, but we finished most of Benitez' 'era' closer to the bottom than the top in terms of points.
There is no quick fix and the sooner everyone accepts that the better. Regardless of who is manager, we are not going to finish in the top four next season, and we are not going to challenge for the league in the next three years. We can either take the Chelsea approach and change managers every season and go nowhere (whilst losing millions a season in pay-offs) or we can take the Man Utd approach and have a bit of patience with the manager.
If Dalglish goes, who dya think he's going to be replaced by? Guardiola? Mourihno? Cappello? Ancellotti? AVB?
Dream on. It'll be Martinez, McLeish, McCarthy, Coyle, Hughton.
Top managers aren't coming here to only have (allegedly) 20 million to spend.
You asked for Dalglish, you got Dalglish, now live with it.

However i wonder if the deluded and kenny cannot do wrong brigade will also have a go at Roy for just the simple reason of being honest. What does Roy know about lfc hey!!! I just cannot believe how average we look as a team and I'm afraid u can talk about the building process and all.....but after 38 league games u should see some progress. What else u have look at is over past few years key players have decided to move on to more successful clubs and if this occurs again this summer it will knock us back even further. Worrying times people!!

Have to agree with Roy, Hard not to as the facts and results do not lie. Kenny has had his go and whether u like it or not has not achieved. 22. Not a single ex red tells it as it is. Not a single one have I heard coming ou and blaming the person who's actually to b blamed. AND THAT'S MR. KENNY DALGLISH. They've been blaming players who KD bought, D Comolli who's already gone and just about everybody. But not KD. The shit season we had has nothing to do with him. 52 points out of 114 and lost as many games as we won is a disgrace for a Liverpool FC. He said that at the end of the season we will add the points and c where we r. He's also said that he'll do what's best for LFC. Well now the whole world knows where we r and the best for Lfc is for him to step down. WE WAITING MR. KENNY DALGLISH.

  23. Alan Hansen his best buddy and neighbour in Southport totally refused to criticise him on MOTD.
Ex players will not criticise a man who was a much better player than they were. Kenny has god like status at Anfield amongst ex players and fans who remember him as a player.
Maybe its time he did the Bobby Charlton role for the club.

  24. Arsenal didn't spend £100 million on players, they lost 2 of their best players. Also, Arsenal finished higher than they did last season, even after one of the worst starts in their history.

The sad thing is that I'm not even looking forward to next season at all if he's still the mngr of our club.

  26. Thank you very much! For me LFC's success is above all!  I don't care who will bring success, I just care to see this club returning back to each glory days and as long as I live and I breath I will not rest until I see it!

  28. i really can't wait for next season, King Kenny will make the doubters eat their words.  at least the football has not been dire where we were out played in every game like it was under rafa.  a few tweaks here and there and games such as the west brom one will end in a drubbing for the opposition.  Hopefully a fox in the box and scoring wingers such as lewandowski will arrive and next season we will walk into the top four

    ReplyDelete
  29. Liverpool will continually sell out of season tickets for the foreseeable future, regardless of what happens on the pitch, hence the desire to move to a bigger stadium...

  31.  what is it with the rafa freaks, the football under rafa became so dull and boring i would rather have watched bolton at the end.  why would we want the man who gave away the title and folded under pressure with his 'FACT' speech which only comes second to kevin keegans breakdown with his ' i'd love it if we beat them' speech as the most embarrasing premier league moment

  32. This comment shows the lie in your username mate!

  33. Never asked for him and said it would be a mistake. Never asked for Roy. Could see Rafa was being hindered and his last season was a failure because we relied too much on two players but the board would not back him... I'd take him back in a heartbeat.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Kick and Rush is not good football!!!
Under Rafa we played some of the best football we have in a long time once he had the right players in place. Problem was he didn't have a good enough squad thanks to H&G.
We have no central playmaker, and rubbish wingers -- how can the football have gotten better?? More exciting maybe but we are playing a nearer style to Stoke than anyone decent. We rely too much on Suarez and the only clever interplay is between him, Kuyt and Maxi and 2 of them might be leaving. If we played better football we wouldn't be so God damn predictable!! However, would like to see us buy Lewandowski. I just get depressed when I think of Alonso & Garcia combined being cheaper than Henderson!!

Kenny should leave now because if this continues into next season he'll be fired and it would be better if he was allowed to walk now into an Ambassador role.

KDs post match interviews every week are more embarrassing than the 'fact' talk. Just that the MAN U loving press love having a go at Rafa. If he reacted in the same way as SAF after the recent defeat at Etihad they would have gone on and on for weeks about Rafa losing the mind games and is cracking up - especially the Daily Mail who love having a go at us. Still mention Suarez incident in every effing report or story to do with us.

Overpriced, overrated, overpaid ...when you remember the likes of Hunt, Rush, St john, Keegan, Barnes and other greats, you don't get turned on by Jordan Henderson and the other mediocrities KD has assembled. You do your team no favours by being satisfied with rubbish.

    ReplyDelete
  43.  No way will I waste my time watching their rubbish football next season.
But I am curious about what excuse the KD fanatics will come up with to explain defeat after defeat if they don't bash the woodwork as much as they have this year.

    ReplyDelete
  44. in reply to HEK80 the last two years under Rafa were dreadful, who got rid of Alonso? it sure as hell wasn't KK and didn't we rely too much on a certain mr torres back then.  Yes the football IS more exciting and only lacking in end product, damn that woodwork!!! would you rather we played a defensive some what negative style of football or as you say a more exciting style of football where we actually take chances.

in reply to Martin Badger totally agree with you there, thats what i meant by tweaks, lets get rid of downing and adam.  Henderson (although i'm not his biggest admirer) i think will improve next season but with the addition of some creative players as well as a finisher we will be pretty comfortable next season

I will get some satisfaction watching him fail even though I won't trouble to watch any more LFC matches.

  48. every one goes on about the money spent hmm well didint man city spend a fair amount on their first season under new owners and finished 10 th then spent more money finished 5th , i wonder how many supporters back in the day when alex ferguson took over at man united ,wanted him sacked at man united because he failed to achieve any thing i bet them idiots are eating their words now , like i hope alot of use will be in the future if kenny get another year wich i think he deserves ,its not about being a kenny supporter its about building a club that sorry to say was falling apart way before kenny took over ,some people need to be realistic and understand we havent the money to compete with the likes of man city etc  so the only way to do that is develop players of our own  , its getting harder and harder to win the premier league as well as even make the top 4 with clubs like spurs newcastle getting stronger ,if we keep changing managers every year its going to take that manager a year to get to know his players and low and behold well all be on here bagging him for failure as well ,every one seems to have all the answers kennys fault he didint play a certain player in a game and even if he did play that player and we lost you would blame him because he didint play another player to your team selection ,its ridiculous , all i hope is that we can get a few added additions and after a season of learning for both players and managment we can get a good start next season get th econfidence under our belts to have a good push to where our great club belongs ynwa

  49. did anyone else notice that sly sports didn't show one Liverpool goal at the end of soccer saturday, not even the Suarez goal at norwich.  the bbc didn't even have the Suarez goal in the goal of the season competition.  the hatred for LFC is just inexcusable but i think KK is the man to bring the good times back to Liverpool.  btw i think Rafa got 2nd in his third season in charge, give Kenny the same amount of time.

  50. Comfortable where exactly bottom half? Do everyone a favor take the sentimental blinkers off please. Under rafa we were feared, its hardly negative football when we were nocking 4 past madrid and finishing 2nd 4 points off top in his 1 but last season so you clearly dont follow LIVERPOOL and had he had the backing of the current owners we wouldnt be wasting close on £50mil on downing hendo and adam. Bring in lambert as he will drill discipline and work ethic into the team but we dont have enough quality fo brendan rodgers style of play

    ReplyDelete
  51. It is okay and perfectly clear that Jamie is no fan of downing or kenny. And it obvious that our team hasn't done as good as we expected. I don't think anyone thinks otherwise. Personally I think we should give kenny another season. He, the team and the club needs time to get it right. By the way, Jamie, it is rather disrespectful to have a dig at downing in that way. You always talk about not getting personal in our comments. Not good enough!

It was nail in coffin time for me yesterday with kenny coming out with a parody of a Hodgson post match statement  - just disbelief at what a once great LFC man has come to  - covering his own back with cliche's like " played well, a bit unlucky " and the final steaming turd in the punch bowl " thought we deserved at least a draw "

NO, I am sorry but we didnt deserve anything  - Downer and Horrenderson cost almost £ 40 million between them and they hid, the last game of the season and they were hiding  - yes I laughed at Utd's downfall yesterday but I can honestly say they have a team of fighters  - we've got 3 or 4 overpriced debutantes who must have forgotten they are at a powerhouse of european football , coupled with a few players who have performed but seemed to be planning the rough drafts of their transfer requests.

There was no Fergie and the FA conspiracy  - no referee agenda to thwart KD's second coming  - the criminal truth is we are not good enough for the leagues top tier and the chief architect of this mid table mediocrity is 'The King' himself.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Haha. 'Horrenderson' - that's genius :-) I've been trying to come up with a nickname for  JH for ages. Sorry, but I'm stealing that one.

  57. People have very short memories on this blog. At this time last season I'll bet those same people who were calling for Kenny's head now were praising him to the high heavens for saving our season last year. Yes, he's made mistakes and no one is gonna feel that more than him. We all feel bad about the season just gone, but we did win something and regardless of what the nay sayers think that is a start. Did Man Utd win anything this season? No. Sure they took the league to the wire but that loss for them was just as bad as our season. It's about expectations. We are a long way behind the top SIX teams in terms of depth and quality but we have potential. What the management must realise is that we need to find the gems that will lift the level of the other players. We have a good defense, we have good attackers, maybe need to add another top striker, but what we miss most is a midfield general. For me that is what Liverpool need, someone to control the tempo of the game in the latter stages when teams this season have overrun us, e.g. QPR away. So the scouts should be looking for the next Xabi Alonso and the next Javier Mascherano. We missed out last season on a certain Steven Defour who went to play in the portuguese league, I really think this guy could have made a difference, but that for me is the level of player that we ought to be going out and buying for next season. Not to expensive but the potential to be absolute top quality. Kenny knows what mistakes he has made, he knows that he didn't buy the right players for the right areas (centre midfield - at least for now). Also, he must know that there are a fair amount of players that aren't good enough to wear the shirt no matter how it plays out. There are only two people that can make the decisions one way or another no matter how it plays out, Tom Werner and John Henry. So all our shouting from the hills will mean nothing. I'm as disappointed as anyone with how our league form played out but I still support the club and I support EVERYTHING that the club does (except for the Little Luis saga with Evra but that's water under the bridge, time to move on). That's what being a supporter means.

Nice to read some sense at long last, yeah it's been a poor season, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Less than two years ago we were almost in the same position as Rangers are now. Had FSG not stepped in, who knows where we'd be now, possibly watching the rest of football picking at our remains.

If you look at the clubs that have consistently been in the top 3 or 4 over the past 20 years, two stand out from the tax havens for the oil rich, they are (I'm sad to say) Utd and Arsenal. What do they have in common? A manager that has been given the opportunity to build a team, given time and backed through thick and thin.

What exactly will be achieved by sacking Dalglish? Millions in contract pay off wasted, the squad disrupted, any players currently considering coming to the club put off and more termoil after the last 2 years. I'm not happy with our results this year and I am disappointed with some of the players, but I don't think knee jerk reactions will solve anything.

Look at Chelsea, they have blown hundreds of millions on paying off sacked managers and paying golden hellos to the next world beater taking the mantle. And let's face it, they've had some of the biggest names in the hot seat.

Our financial report this year read a £35m loss, the main contributors to that were clearing up the H&G mess and paying off Hodgson after the owners followed the fans wishes to appoint KD. Now 18 months on and it's the same people shouting for his head because we had a poor season. It may be news to some, but we haven't had a good season since 08-09 when we finished 2nd.

FSG inherited a mess, a club in debt beyond its means, a shallow squad of disillusioned players and an out of date stadium. None of this was down to the team manager, it was all down to the board. We have been under invested and lead by people with lack of vision for decades. Throughout the 70s and 80s, we were possibly the biggest club in the world. Everything we touched turned to gold, but none was put back into the club.

Meanwhile, the other end of the east lancs road an empire was being built on solid foundations. And it's that model we now need to copy if we are ever to get back up to the top again. We don't have the cash to buy up all the Messi's and Kaka's. We need to develop our youth and build on them. We can't compete with the money of City and we don't have CL football to offer either, all we have at the moment is our history and the best fans in the country, if not the world.

So instead of throwing your toys out of the pram and blaming KD for our predicament, show some loyalty. To back the manager doesn't make you nostalgic or somehow clouded by his status within the club.

If you don't want to waste your time watching Liverpool next season, fine, I doubt you'll be missed and I'm sure which ever club you choose to follow won't notice either. I'm a true Red regardless, can you same the same?

  59. Who was it that won us the champions league in 2005? Rafa. Who was it who made us finish second in the league in his penultimate season? Rafa. Yeah he bought some flops in, andriy voronin topping that list, but he also won us arguably the best trophy in club football. One none of us will ever forget. I say bring Rafa in if Kenny goes. I would welcome him with open arms.

  60. He has not right to say KK doesnt know anything for a man  who was a great player and a great he probably hurts more than you do so i suggest you he keeps his ''different opinion'' to himself if all he wants to do is insult our manager.

    ReplyDelete
  61. How do you determine mediocrity? I want some of you to make mu understand that we bought mediocrity. Some of you don't understand what football is all about. You expect a 21 year old come to a big club like Liverpool and becomes a star in a flash am sure you're the same people who jumped to Lucas every time he stepped on to pitch booed him not knowing a young player needs time to gel in a team and later alone settle. If you have never been in a different environment you have no right to judge someone in his first year in a different club learn to know that things are not done in a flash am sick of it . This is Liverpool football club we make starts we don't buy them.

  62. People like you should be the first one to go. There is a reason why there's a first, second and third term to determine the performance of any person saying Kenny should go is like saying you're a failure in term one. Pity you claim to be LFC supporters why don't you go and glory seek some where else.

  63. Actually there are a thousand more willing to take those tickets  you can enjoy yourself in your comfort zone.

  64. 35 years of Liverpool should have told you that at LFC we don't buy stars but we create them probably the reason why we have lagged behind thinking of buying stars whenever the window is open. We'll need a bit of time and am sure the there's a light at the end of the tunnel just have some faith.

  65. Rafa, Rafa, Rafa please he had 6 year and did nothing to win the league stop lamenting about it at least the last title we ever won was won by KK am sick and tired of Rafa. He claimed to have broken Madrid and Barca dominance in Spain without spending when he came to Liverpool all he did was spend spend and spend. You're all forgetting all the Liverpool problems started with Rafa.

  66. Well said Joandmike....pity Kenny does`nt see it that way as well..ie.16 pts off relegation as opposed to 37 pts from an EPL title...Any other manager would have been shown the door (ala Roy Hodgson)...I`ve supported LFC for 40 years...loved Kenny as a player, club legend yes...a manager to get us back into Champions League, let alone win a LONG OVERDUE EPL title....NO!!!!!
I just hope that Fenway Sports are `ruthless`in their changes from the top down and invest accordingly...if not, nothing will change next season and we can carry on fighting for more `great seasons` finishing mid table along with the likes of Norwich,Swansea,Fulham,WBA...oh that`s right...teams we all got beat by...Kenny lovers...is this really how you perceive LFC should be???get your heads out of the sand....I WANT TO SEE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL AND AN EPL TITLE..preferably in my lifetime!!!!!!!!!

  67. Dude that was fate that won us the CL even if it was you in chanrge he was going to win it. He got his own opportunity to win it again against a poor Milan in 2007 it showed how sometimes he was naive and he lost by simply failing to do the most obvious thing that is play your winning team. How do you put a man who has scored all the goals en route to the final on the bench. Rafa hell no.

  68. Not second he was 3rd after bing 5th in his first season.

  69. Those players are put on the pitch by KK to play and win then they miss chance after chance you expect KK to walk to the pitch and score?

  70. Kenny has been given a three year contract and despite the poor league results, I believe he deserves another season. I think the club has reached a defining moment in its history and I strongly hope it is managed well. Having endured the near collapse of the football club during the Hicks and Gilette era, I hope for a period of stability at the top. And that especially includes keeping faith with a manager who appreciates fully the expectations of the fans. I can understand people's frustrations with the post-match interviews but I see a manager who defends his players in the press and continually reinforces his confidence in their abilities. He also refuses to pamper to the press by providing any attention-grabbing headlines. Hardly a bad thing!
He has refused to hide from the disappointing league tally and failure to gain a champions League spot but we have reached the final of the two cup comps we took part in, we have qualified for the other European comp and that can't be regarded as anything but successful. Short of the preferred target but still successful.
I know all LFC fans want a title challenge but when are we all going to wake up and realise we've come close on just two or three occasions in the past twenty years and given recent upheavals that is barely going to change overnight.
Kenny has already overseen a huge clear out of dead wood last season and brought in a string of new players he sees with greater ability or potential. I trust him to build on that this summer. I trust him to oversee the club post-Stevie G and Carra era. To sack him now would mean starting over again and I don't think the club can afford to that.

  71. Are you serious about Alonso? You have no idea how that whole thing played out. He was awful for 18 months, Rafa threatened to sell him and he had his best season ever. After that he handed in a transfer request, Rafa made a healthy profit and sold him for 30m, and when he tried to sign Barry as cover (not Alonso level but a solid enough replacement) The board made him sign Robbie Keane. Ridiculous if you can't see that his hands were tied.

In saying all that I don't agree that we should bring Rafa back. We know how bringing back old managers works out. The fact is we should never have let him go. Rafa would say it himself that we only played the best football under him for about one season. One of the best first elevens in the world in 08/09. Problem was our squad depth was shite as a result of having to bargain shop.

We need to move in for a young attack minded coach who understands that if you are going to be challenging for the title you need to be winning most of your games by 2 or more goals. If you aren't it means your team is imbalanced. better to lose one in four than draw half your games.

And we need to DEVELOP our own talent, as well as better scouting. Imagine the kind of squad that could be built for 110m if we were scouting the type of players Newcastle has signed with our money. Also this fear of playing young players because it will "ruin them" is ridiculous and unfounded. The reality of it is that telling a young player over and over that they aren't ready yet, will ruin their confidence more than making the occasional mistake in a game.

  72. First off, that last motto you used isn't one that is used by us, but Barca. Mediocrity = Adam, Downing. The difference between Lucas and others I've said a thousand times and if you don't get that yet it is you who doesn't understand football. Carroll will come good, I've said that since day 1. But at £35m you buy a finished product not potential - and although he'll come good - will he ever be a £35m player? time will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  73. The problems started with H&G. You need to start looking at the bigger picture. If he had support from owners like John Henry, I am sure we wouldn't have finished above Fulham on goal difference.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Also look at all the playershe bought, then all of his players sold. You'll see the nett spend is close to 0!!!

  75. It's called MANAGING. Your blind faith is astounding.

    ReplyDelete
  76. im not sure the owners know what their doing- didnt they appoint moneyball comolli? didnt they agree to the inflated prices paid for mediocre players? honestly, what do they know about football?

    ReplyDelete
  77. you are the epitomy of muppetry (sames as KD - funny that!!) - as HEK80 asked, you're a KD fan, not an LFC fan - so not really a fan at all - so get back in your box.

Only REAL fans would realise that KD is a waster, incompetent bitter glaswegian oof a man - time for him (and you ) to do one

    ReplyDelete
  78. What if Man united sacked Fergie as they nearly did for his slow start? It took him a while to get not only the team going but the whole club. Rafa while he was manager made many improvements to our club beyond the results he achieved on the field, ie the academy. If any of you expect instant success then be prepared to change managers every year.

Perhaps KK is not the right man today, I can't answer that question with any degree of certainty but tossing two managers aside in quick time is setting a dangerous precedent.

I think the smartest way forward is to be prudent. That is, give Kenny his the final year of his contract while putting in place a solid stratergy beyond his contract should we not perform.

One final comment, I read an awful lot of extreme opinions on Rafa. Could somebody explain to me why anyone would speak so ill of a man who is IMO is a class act as a person and gave his all for LFC. He's gone now so if an opinion needs to be given, whether it's Kenny or whoever try to keep it decent and on football. There appears to be an unhealthy lack of respect which reflects on our club after the club is at the end of the day for the fans. Owners, players and managers may come and go but without the fans a club has nothing. Our behaviour reflects on OUR CLUB! YNWA

  79. Dede - You keep going on about not buying stars but we create them...We bought Morientes who was a star in his time and we ruined him so stop talking dung! Also, we're creating a star in Sterling yet he isn't getting games...how is he supposed to prove himself when he can't get a game?! Also I agree entirely with Joandmike - Liverpool are fast becoming the laughing stock of the premier league! I also agree with Mr_ed_ynwa - Although I'm only 20 years of age...I too would love to see Liverpool win the EPL because I'm sick and tired of getting into arguments with fans of other teams and their only retort is "How many Premier League's have you's won?". Yes we have a great history but that's all it is...History! Big time changes need implemented this summer to get us back up that table where we belong!

  82. Transitional period, Rome wasn't built in a day, it is a three year job, blah, blah, blah. Meanwhile, Newcastle and Everton are moving into the horizon and Fulham, Sunderland and Swansea have overtaken us, along with West Brom and Norwich.

What transitional period gets worse as it goes along? What are these players, most of them, going to do to turn it around? The season has been a joke and our relegation form in the league is in keeping with beating Cardiff on penalties in the Carling Cup Final. We had no European football and, yet, Arsenal, after selling three of their best players, have left us in their wake and people say the manager should get more time? Do the decent thing, Kenny, and resign, put everyone out of their misery.

I think kenny deserves another season !!! we just dont have the squad to do well in two competitions and the league. he has took the club to two finals in his first year which one we won one and the other we lost controversially as we batterd chelski in the last half hr and could of won the game. Ok we have not done well in the league this season but some of the performances in the games we have lost have been really good, but we just dont have enough top quality players to come off the bench and change the game. I really do think that if his giving another season he would do well you don't win all available trophies in club football as a player and win four league titles, 3 cups as a manager if dont know what your doing and i think he knows a lot more about the game than most. YNWA kenny keep the faith people :)

  84. It was Stevie G who won us the Champions after Benitez had predictably picked the wrong team. It was Stevie who won us the cup the following year too. In Athens Benitez cocked up team selection again but this time he paid the penalty.

  85. to be fair guys i can understand why people want kenny to go as the season has been diabolical and certain players havent pulled their weight. However, a geezer at the top quoted bill shankly saying " no individual is greater than the club" and i agree with that totally but he also quoted " if you cant support us through defeat, dont support us at all". We gotta look at this season as a defeat. Dare i say it Alex ferguson first full season at united was a flop and he nearly got the sack, however after that we all know the story. We Should stick by Kenny for one more season. Yes i know many people wont agree with me but you gotta remember he came in and stabilized the club after a dreadful short lived era of Roy Hodgson and that took guts. To all those moaners who are saying get rid of kenny and bring back rafa. A year ago january your quote would of probably been " get rid of roy and bring back Kenny!" what happens if we do get rid of kenny and bring back rafa and he finishes 8th aswell and doesnt win us anything, will you still be singing his praises? Patience is a virtue, all good things will come to those who wait.
