Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt seems certain to leave Anfield this summer, but the ambitious attacking midfielder is determined to move to one of Europe's top clubs. Kuyt has already dismissed the possibility of a return to Feyenoord, and it in light of his recent comments, it seems unlikely that he'll choose SV Hamburg, who only just escaped relegation from the Bundesliga this season. What about Barcelona? It seems like a ridiculous idea, but according to reports in Spain, Barca are interested in bringing Kuyt to the Nou Camp.
Several times this season, Kuyt has complained publicly about warming the bench at Anfield, and in April, he revealed his frustration at being left out of the FA Cup semi-final with Everton:
"It is a disappointment that I did not play (against Everton). I expected to come on, and if that happens, you hope to be the first to come on. But that was not to be".
In an interview with AD Sportwereld yesterday, Kuyt made it clear that he still has the desire and hunger to play at the highest level:
"The fact I held talks with Feyenoord indicates I wanted to give it a serious chance, but if I returned to Holland, I would have to take an 80 per cent cut in my Liverpool wages. I still have two or three years left at the top. I still have the ambition and fitness to play at the highest level, a club in a major competition or a big club with European ambitions"
Well, according to Barcelona-based El Mundo Deportivo - a Spanish daily with a well established Barca bias - Director of Football Andoni Zubizarreta is considering a move for the Dutch International.
Kuyt to Barcelona? Would he fit in there? Does he have the first touch and technique to mix it with the likes of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta? After failing to hold down a regular first team place at Liverpool this season, I doubt that Kuyt would command a regular starting place if he moved to Barca.
If a deal did materialise, I would hope that Liverpool would look to do a swap/loan deal for one of Barca's players. Cristian Tello, perhaps...?

not going to happen!
ReplyDeletego away kanwar ya disgrace
ReplyDeleteOver-rated player IMO (of course some might say under-rated!). Was originally signed as a striker by Rafa but his deficiency soon showed as he lacks the technical ability required as a striker in the modern game. Was soon switched to Right Winger to get the best out of his hard work, but was never a "typical" winger that can open up defences or whip in a dangerous pass across the goalmouth. It's no surprise the club went nowhere after Rafa signed him after Istanbul. Thanks for his service and hard work, but emotions aside, Kuyt should be moved.
ReplyDeleteKuyt's form may have dropped a little this season, but he's hardly overrated. Since 2006, he's been directly responsible for 22% of all Liverpool's goals. Whatever anyone thinks about him, that is a fantastic return.
ReplyDeleteCan't make the Liverpool top eleven, yet, sees his-self as a fixture or part of Barcelona's future? That would be an interesting call.
ReplyDeleteKanwar, you write so much shit
ReplyDeleteYou can't just make up nonsense to generate debate kanwar!
ReplyDeleteKuyt wont hack it with Barcelona. It is a shame he and other Dutch players leave their homeland as the clubs there produce some of the most technically gifted players in Europe, such as Cruyff, Van Persie, Gullit, Von Basten, Robben, Overmars and Bergkamp. The list just goes on and on.
ReplyDeleteAjax would be world beaters if the lads stayed at home.
Kuyt's attributes are work rate and the popping up to score vital goals, he loves derbies.
He's not good enough for Barca. Despite his public complaints, many times this season He proved to be not good enough for LFC. He's had so many chances this season, too. Three goals in all competitions, are not a fantastic goal's tally for a Plyer Who consider himself in "the prime" of his career. DOes He wants to go? Let him go. I'm extremely sick oh these persistent public complaints. Players Who think They deserve a place, They should talk their football. Kuyt's football speak for himself.
ReplyDeleteJust go Kuyt, you won't be missed at all, i'm not sure though which Barcelona you on about.
ReplyDeleteif barca is interested in kuyt then surely real madrid is in downing lol, cmon kuyt cant even get a place here in the starting line up where he gonna play at barca, behind the goal maybe, collecting balls!! im just waiting for any reactions from fsg, hopefully they will sack dalglish soon,im fearing they giving him another season and thats the end for us, henderson downing spearing aurelio kuyt carroll adam must all leave, maybe reina as well
ReplyDeleteIf Barcelona does sign him, he would definitely be a bench warmer there, but atleast, it would be better to be a bench warmer at Barcelona than to be a bench warmer at Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteNever been a big Dirk Kuyt fan but i admire his attitude, whatever the techinical glitches he has, he overcomes them with his workrate and desire. But player like Downing is just hopeless, whenever he plays its like playing with ten men because he is almost 9 out 10 times invisible in a game, no contribution at all and he exceeded Kenny Dalglish's expectations.
I think that this is just the beginning tbh, i can see others putting in transfer requests....as has been rumoured.
ReplyDeleteIts a case of them putting more pressure on FSG to oust Kenny and bring in rafa perhaps....?
IF Reina Saurez and others for instance also put in transfer requests then i think that would push our owners into making their decision...
I love this Club, never fails to intrigue with the dramas going on behind the scenes, this won't be over until we either bring rafa back...OR get rid of players who are clearly not happy.....
Personally i wish Kuyt all the best elsewhere, let us down once too often IMO this season which is not good enough for a supposed established and proven player....Reina and Suarez should follow suit and then we can get on with the business of sweeping clean the decks before we embark on another season....
What we can't do is just let everything be as it is and bury our heads in the sand as to what problems we might have, in this respect the Club i.e. Kenny and FSG have certainly kept a lot of issue's in house.....
Going to be VERY interesting....
Jaimie - Completely agree. Kuyt has been a consistent performer and his form only dipped once he started getting left out of the side. For all those who knock him I'd like to know how many other players regularly score 12-15 goals a season when played predominantly wide right and not as a striker.
ReplyDeleteWhile we undoubtedly need to make changes in the summer I'd be sorry to see him go. And for all those who want to have a go why is he still a regular starter in a class Holland team? If not Barcelona, they'll be plenty of other offers.
Its not Kuyt we have to worry about, its Skrtle, those Spanish slimeballs will want him to replace puyol for next to nothing - let Him stew first.
ReplyDeletethat downing picture had me in fits hahahahahah
ReplyDeletestitches i should say!
ReplyDeleteIt's classic, isn't it :-) I love the quote at the bottom from Dalglish: 'He's better than I thought' - The tragic thing is Kenny actually did say that (!)
ReplyDeleteno matter where he's going ,only matter i wanna see in papers that "kuyt leaves LIVERPOOL"..make some room for summer recruitment's(hoping for talents) & academy kids like streling & suso...
ReplyDeletewill miss him...ynwa
ReplyDeletei am sure lucas got the same treatment from alot of the fans its good to see liverpool fans supporting players in there first season and not causng them more pressure. so mnay thing are achieved in life by negatitive suuport. perhaps we shoudl try this amazing approach woth are armed forces or nurses as it clearly works and takes real intellegence to create
ReplyDeleteI wonder what Kenny thought about him before buying!
ReplyDeletereina to leave, are you stupid
ReplyDeletesome you haven't got a clue about football. Kuyt may not be technically gifted but he scores regularly and for those who say he had his chances, he didn't. He has never had a run of games, unlike Hendo, Downing etc. how can someone just produce without at least a chance of say 10 starts in a row. Besides which having a guy on the pitch who gives 110% lifts other players to do the same, it's not always about technical ability we have lost plenty of games against clubs who do not have players with great technical ability it's also about giving your all to the game and the club, and he certainly has, I feel sorry that he has been treated badly and picked over people who do not have his passion.
ReplyDeletejamie that doesnt mean a thing since 2006 the teamfrom midfield onwards has changed considerably...he and gerrard are the only two that have been there since so obviously that would mean his percentage of being part or scoring goals would be high.....he didnt score enough as a striker and played in a wide right position.... where you either need to be agile and come inside and have a few tricks or need to have pace and beat the defender down the line he had neither facts dont tell the whole story i would have thought you would know that by now considering stewart downing last season compared to this
ReplyDelete*stats not facts
ReplyDeleteplease Jaimie allow the right click just so I can take that Downing picture at least plssss ! Lol brilliant !!
ReplyDeleteLucas didn't know English, was 20, moved to a new country/league/language/position etc etc. The reason Downing etec were bought was that they had EPL experience and could "hit the ground running". This Lucas comparison is truly rubbish! Anyone with a modicum of football knowledge knew Lucas had ability but even if he flopped it would have been a £6m gamble. Has anyone out there ever watched Downing before he signed and gone "wish he played for us?" Most one dimensional player I've ever seen and couldn't believe he played for England. Then we sign him for £20m!!!
ReplyDeleteJaimie, Wasn't it 24% last year? He's been on the pitch more than any other forward in that time, so is that that good? Lets face it when you add it up he must have gone 3 whole seasons out of 6 not scoring a league goal. Months and months of barren returns. Considering he hasn't scored as many goals as Djibril Cisse did in his last season, it's impossible to think of him as a step forward. Poor first touch, no pace and no left foot. Not consistent enough to have been given his elevated status. He's clearly an egotist with his whining press pronouncements. Thank you and ta ta!
ReplyDeleteHi Paul, I agree with you - Kuyt has had too many barren spells during his time at LFC (I've written about them several times), but despite all that, he's still scored/created over 115 goals since 2006, which is a great return. I think the time is right for him to leave, but despite the barren spells, Kuyt has done well for LFC.
ReplyDeleteExactly the same scenario as any young foreigner who comes here and cannot speak English, think Fellaini was the same age when he came and I would love him in my midfield
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure why people are okay with Kuyt leaving the team. He is one of the best players we have in the squad. Certainly can make into the starting eleven every game (Although it is impossible while Kenny is still in charge)
ReplyDeleteKuyt/Meireles/Maxi scored 28 league goals last season for us. Meireles had been shipped out and replaced by immobile Adam, Kuyt is replaced by 'Will come good eventually' Henderson (in case you haven't notice, nurturing Henderson had cost us this whole season) while Maxi is replaced by Invincible Downing. How much did Adam/Henderson/Downing contribute to us this season?
People can yell about why Aguero, Silva, Mata etc won't want to join us because of the European Champions League. Yes, world class players may not want to join Liverpool thus more the priority for us to retain our best players in the team. But then why are we shipping out the best players we have in the team and using the expensive inferior flops as replacements? Do we do that now? Buy expensive British young talents and nurture them for the future while abandoning better players on the bench? Perhaps now it's the real downfall of Liverpool, we became a sinking ship under King Kenny.
I heard a story on Friday about Alan Ball at the end of his career he played in Hong Kong and his employers never paid his wages, so he deliberately played 90 minutes without actually touching the ball. That is very hard for a player of his renown who was Man of the Match in the World Cup Final despite another player getting a hat trick.
ReplyDeleteI said to my friend fuck me Stewart Downing does that every week.
good luck to dirk. i think kd has badly used him, imagine how he must feel, being overlooked for the sh*t, kd brought in? off you go dirky boy, with many thanks for your contribution. just a shame some others won't be following you out of the door........ynwa
ReplyDeleteSo do you believe Henderson was a better option than a winger who gets into double figures every season?
ReplyDeleteI rather view this could develop to be something of an additional chapter to that famous "Catch-22" novel.
ReplyDeleteHere we have players who will no way come to Liverpool because the wage they would be offered is below what they have already. On the other hand we have a player in Liverpool who would not leave because the wage he is on here is above whatever he would be offered there! Joseph Heller would reach for fresh paper for his typewriter over this situation methinks.
His great for the pressing side of the game but his touch just isn't good enough to be honest.
ReplyDeleteYou 'fans' are complete morons, kuyt has been fantastic for us since he arrived & i for one will be very disappointed to see him go, its KD whi has lost the plot & stuck by his british failures so he doesnt get hammered by the board for wasting tens of millions on utter crap! kuyt never stops running and (althiugh his conversion rate is pants) is always there in the big games when it counts, who can say the same about downing, hendo or adam? We are supposed to stick by the players that give all for their club which is why kuyt will be sorely missed & the other 3 could walk out the front door making as much noise as they could & we wouldnt even notice - good riddance & take the tactically clueless KD with you!
ReplyDeleteIf you reach the latter stages of your career you should be happy to pick up a decent wage at a decent standard of football, ie Feyenoord. When your the wrong side of 30 and your ability is in decline you shouldnt be looking to further your career and earn more brass unless your David Beckham, and Kuyt hasnt got the looks for that.
ReplyDeletePlayers earn so much now they wont finish their playing careers in the lower leagues like they used to. Tranmere used to thrive on ex Liverpool players about 35 finishing off with a couple of seasons there. Sadly that is no longer the case.
I have to agree:- under Comolli's system (the numbers game?) Kuyt would be high on the list. Bought as a striker I believe-and scored many important goals in that position when the REDS were needing him!
ReplyDeleteAlso true is the fact that Dalglish has left him out of the starting line to accomodate the failures he has implemented!
ReplyDeleteHas he stated that fact???
ReplyDeleteJaimie, Cheers for the reply. You will know only to well that Kuyt's scoring rate is about 1 goal in 4 games. For him to be anywhere near good enough IMO it should be 1 in 3. Benayoun and Maxi have scored at a rate of 1 in 3 in far less games with more hat-tricks to boot and yet they were left on the sidelines for the undroppable Dutchman.
ReplyDeleteTo illustrate this point Kuyt had another costly barren run in the 08-09 season of three months when Torres was fatefully injured, if Kuyt had scored a goal in the home draws vs Hull, Fulham or West Ham we would have won the league. He was our most established forward at that time but he failed. Newboy Robbie Keane who was scoring in this period was sold and his short stint at Villa this year shows he still can score. An incredible decision.
The simple fact is that Kuyt just hasn't scored as many times as he should have given his minutes and seasons on the pitch, he has missed chances by the absolute bucketload.
Not scoring for what amounts to 3 seasons out of 6 in the league is never, ever going to be good enough for me if we want to consistently win or challenge so we'll agree to disagree.
Paul - I agree with you - Your point about the 2008-9 season is spot on; Kuyt usually scores all his goals in bursts, and then has long barren spells. I'm not suggesting LFC should keep Kuyt, but over when you look at his record as a whole, he's still managed a decent return despite the barren spells. Clearly, we need consistent goalscorers in midfield going forward, and Kuyt aint it (and the same goes for Downing and Henderson)
ReplyDeleteWhat is your definition of technical ability? Running into dead ends like Downing, not showing up like Henderson. People can say that Kuyt's form has dipped this season but its not his fault that he can't get a run of games? He has been alienated from the squad just like Rodriguez. It took Carroll one whole season to show a little bit of form. I'm sure if Kuyt was given the same time he would have showed better form, even on the RW.
ReplyDeleteI THINK PEOPLE HAVE FORGOTTEN, WHEN SLATING HIS CONVERSION RATE, THAT, HAD HE BEEN DEPLOYED IN THE POSITION HE WAS KNOWN FOR, WHICH WAS A STRIKER, NOT A MIDFIELDER. HE MAY WELL HAVE NETTED FAR MORE THAN HE DID. I NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY RAFA PLAYED HIM THIS WAY. I THINK HE HAS BEEN GREAT AND KD HAS MADE A MASSIVE ERROR BY STICKING WITH HIS WASTE OF SPACE SIGNINGS, WHILST IGNORING A GENUINE TALENT. IF KD IS KEPT ON, THIS WILL BE THE FIRST TIME EVER, THAT MY EXCITEMENT, MY ANTICIPATION, WILL NOT BE AT IT'S USUAL FRACTIOUS LEVELS, WHEN IT COMES TO WHO WE WILL SIGN....I HAVE A HORRIBLE FEELING THAT A BRITISH THEME WOULD CONTINUE, IF NOT.....THEY JUST WON'T BE WORTH WRITING HOME ABOUT. THAT IS THE REASON I WANT KK TO TAKE A BACK SEAT AGAIN AND LET SOMEONE ELSE TAKE US FORWARD WILL FRESH EYES.
ReplyDeleteKuyt is a great player who might not be a pacy player, but knows his limitations and how to use his strengths. Kuyt is a very intelligent player who i think is an asset on any team. I know if I were manager I would have him on my squad. I do not remember what season it happened but Kuyt has actually been the leading scorer on our team I am thinking maybe two or three seasons ago. If Kuyt was the leading scorer then you know the squad has needed vast improvement. Being technically gifted and fast is not the only definition of a great player. By his work rate and positive attitude I think that Kuyt actually leads on the pitch and in so doing makes everyone around him better (a tall order indeed for Kenny's latest signings lol).
ReplyDeleteI am happy if Kuyt has a chance to play with Barcalona. Barca has been very good to Dutch players. In fact Barca rarely signs European who are not Dutch . They in their style of play incorporated the "total foot-ball " concept introduced by the dutch in the 70's. I personally think that Kuyt will seat on the bench at Barca but that beats sitting on the bench at Liverpool under a manager who thinks a player is always better just because he is younger than a player who is older.Lastly Jaime i couldn't stop laughing at the Stewart Downing dvd cover. I nearly fell off my chair from laughing at the office . It is the funniest thing i have ever seen. I would really buy it as a gag gift. It's funny as hell. Thank you.
I agree, he may not be able to beat every player on the pitch twice like some of our fans believe a winger should be able to do, he doesnt have the pace, he doesnt have the skill etc etc but with kuyt we all know exactly what we are getting every time he walks on the pitch...... 100%!! Commitment, determination a nack of scoring creating goals when we desperatly needed them!!! He is the ultimate pro who has done everything he possibly could do for this club despite (what some fans believe his limited ability)
ReplyDeleteIsnt it a spanish newspaper that has suggested as much?
ReplyDeleteGoing forward we must buy technically better players who make the right decisions. I think Downing and Henderson are decent technically but have been overawed so far.
ReplyDeleteWe require two goalscorers with some pace please (one who can play wide right), a central defender, DM cover for lucas and a playmaker (because we can't rely on Adam or Spearing as cover sadly.
I hope we actually see Aquilani for a whole season because to sell him for less money than it cost to sign Adam would be certifiable. We have lacked his passing, ball retention and creativity in the middle badly. Keep him and we have a class player at our disposal. I wonder if he'll see sense and decide to give it a go here, instead of asking for another loan.
I hope the owners put some of their own cash into this transfer window - £50m should do it then who knows we might buy some 1st teamers instead of squadees?
Your thoughts?
if its true ,,I WISH HIM ALL THE BEST ,,a great servant fans favourite and liverpool legend,, one of the very few lfc players good enough to grace anfield and don the red shirt,,
ReplyDeleteThis 'big games' thing is such a nonsense. Then again, this whole prioritization of certain games has probably contributed to Liverpool becoming a mid-table team in recent years.
ReplyDeleteFor a big team, every game matters.
I agree about the positions we need to strengthen but not about Aqualani. He simply doesn't want to play here. He can be a quality player but he's not cut out for the premier league. It's too physical for him and unless we play him in a 3 man central midfield he's no good for us. We can't play with a midfielder whose afraid to mix it. I think we need to cut our losses and take whatever we can for him.
ReplyDeleteYou keep repeating this stat and everybody just accepts it, but what math are you using to calculate that Kuyt is directly responsible for 22% of our goals?? Off of the top of my head, Kuyt has scored 50 goals in 6 years - for that to be 22% of our total, the team would've had to average about 45 goals a season and even this year we scored more than that!
ReplyDeleteEitherways, irrespective of the accuracy of the stat, this would just illustrate the problem of a lack of alternative goalscorers being played consistently in recent years (what other attackers consistently got game time over the last 6 years aside from Torres, Gerrard & Kuyt??), rather than it being some great achievement that Kuyt was involved in a lot of our goals - the guy has had a free role in our attack and SHOULD have been expected to contribute heavily in our goal tally!
Kuyt has been a ridiculously over-rated player at LFC as far as I'm concerned, and for all the talk about 'every team needing a Kuyt', no other top team would've used him in the same manner.
Only this site , could suggest durk could play for bara .
ReplyDeleteAre you serious ?
He works hard ?
Is an excuse for , can't shoot straight
And got the worst
Ball control of any Dutch international any of of us have ever seen
Not gonna happen, plus, Tello is over-rated
ReplyDeleteEveryone accepts the stat because it's accurate, as I illustrated in an article a few months ago:
ReplyDelete* Kuyt joined LFC in 2006
* Total goals scored by LFC since 2006 = 555
* Total goals and assists by Kuyt since 2005 = 119 (71 goals + 48 assists in all competitions)
* 119 goals scored/created out of 555 = 21% of total goals.
(I put 22% above as that was the figure when I last did the calculation. A few months have passed since then so obviously it will be slightly different.
So there you have it: Kuyt is directly responsible for one fifth of all LFC's goals since 2006.
I'm not his biggest fan either, but that return should not be dismissed.
yet is a starter for the national team. Guess they see something in him that you don't. He's not good enough for Barca at his age now but I wish him well wherever he ends up. Don't blame him for leaving. Dropped just so KD could justify his poor signings.
ReplyDeleteThat's nonsense. This site has not suggested Kuyt could play for Barca (!) Quite the contrary - As stated in the article, Kuyt would struggle to be a first team at the Nou Camp.
ReplyDeleteDowning has admittedly been very poor but no true Liverpool fan would mock him in that manner
ReplyDeleteur a disgrace that man has served lfc better than most,, scored vital goals in big games,,, show some respect the man deserves better than some arsehole like you slating him.. ohh and its dirk not durk retard
ReplyDeleteWhy? He's paid a fortune for doing somehting very badly. Don't you think a bit of mockery is the least he deserves?
ReplyDeleteYes, it's hilarious. I laughed so much I nearly fell off my chair. Could we have similar DVDs mocking our other players? There's plenty of scope and - besides - it really pisses off the lunatics who shriek YNWA every twenty minutes like religious fanatics.
ReplyDeleteJust a word to the wise - dictionary.
ReplyDeleteNo, not from someone proclaiming to be a fan of Liverpool Football Club. That's a Bitter or Manc trick.
ReplyDeleteWhy do people still continually look to Rafa as the way forward? He is not what LFC need. We can't keep looking back.
ReplyDeleteKuyt is a very good player (somebody before that wrote something about bad first touch etc, is he blind or something?) that scores when it matters and he plays football for his team and not for himself. Suarez seems more dangerous with Kuyt in first eleven, and seem that they clicked better than Suarez / Carroll duo (and I say while I believe that Andy has a bright future in LFC). Although Kuyt is 31 years old he is still a very useful player for our team. King Kenny, made some mistakes and some right desisions for LFC. The Kuyt handling is going to the mistakes category... Keep Kuyt in LFC. He has plenty to offer as a footballer for another 3 - 4 years, his salary is not to big, he is a good character, he is a true, loyal fan of LFC... YNWA
ReplyDeleteJaimie, can you get us statistics of how many times did Kuyt lose the ball for the opponents' side in the last two seasons?
ReplyDeleteI bet you will make another DVD cover for that
Kuyt is not good enough for us. He has wasted hundreds of opportunities in front of the goal. He just runs around like a headless chicken and has no technique at all. He is also getting old. He should pack his things and leave asap. We need world class strikers and wingers to partner suarez not average players who compensate for their lack of technical abilities/skills by running a lot...
ReplyDeleteI believe that Hendo has more talent than Kuyt, especially in his natural role. I'm sick of this typycal misloyalty from players, that often get the back of some so-called fans. Has Kuyt finally finished the excuses just now? I hope so.
ReplyDeleteYou're not informed over the caps Kuyt collected this season. Every time He complaints about the lack of time on the pitch, He regualrly started, and He created nothing. There's no room for excuses: the only reason behind his failures is that He's been not good enough. When You miss an header inside the box with the keeper on the opposite angle, You're the only faulth. The exit door is open. Bye.
ReplyDeleteAS Hendo regularly played as a winger , when He's a natural central midfielder, but this doesn't apply to Hendo? yes, affermative. This is the typycal proof of the lack of objectivity that some so - called fans harbouring.
ReplyDeleteDAMN I'M SICK OF HEARING THIS EXCUSE!!!! The EPL is too physical for him??!?!?! You were probably one of the fans who were saying the same thing about David Silva when Rafa was interested in him! If you can control the ball and read the defense then physicality just means that you will draw more fouls against the opposition. You probably also go on and on about "premier league proven" players. Yup that logic works well and signed us Stewart Downing, Adam, and Carrol. You can keep this Sh$#@!. I'd rather have a European international from Italy, who knows how to pass the ball on the ground with intelligence.
ReplyDeleteThere is no question he has limited ability. He kind of epitomizes this squad...another grafter who hasn't got the confidence (or ability) to beat a defender. But as long as he "gives it all for the team"! That's all Liverpool needs....a team of Carraghers. I swear its like an awful Disney sports movie.
ReplyDeleteI think Barca would be more likely to move in for Agger or Collocini than Skyrtl. They suit the ball playing style of Barca more than him.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=J7RGn4FWeHQ#!
ReplyDeleteI had a laugh.
They probably want Kuyt to partner Mascherano at centre-back.
ReplyDeletehello my name is rubel u cant do this maan, lets do it this and i luv zeeshy xxx
ReplyDeleteHello my name a zeeshaan, i like kabeer, ramzy, hassan, tanny etc ....did you hear about barca the DREW 2-1
ReplyDeletepeace out !!!!!
I, for one, would be very sorry to see Kuyt leave LFC, but after the way he has had to play second fiddle to inferior quality players this season, I wouldn't blame him in the least !
ReplyDeleteActually, Kuyt could work there, as back up for Villa, because one thing he does have is great positional awareness to make up for his lack of pace. I can remember him scoring plenty of tap ins, including a hatrick against Man Utd, where he was moving onto rebounds well before anyone else had even thought about reacting. With good movement, and Barcelona's passing game, he could finally become prolific, although he must understand that he would only be playing Spanish Cup games and against teams in the bottom 6 or 7 in the league. Van Persie at Barcelona would be the scary one, though, they could score about 200 goals a season!
ReplyDeleteAn assist means that you're involved in a goal, not that you're 'directly responsible' for it, hence my focus on his goals.
ReplyDeleteAnd even then, ignoring the misleading wording the stat doesn't really prove much anyway - over the last 6 years, Kuyt has been practically guaranteed one of the 4 attacking positions on the pitch (I'd only expect Torres & Gerrard to have played a similar number of games), game in-game out, regardless of how poorly he performed (and he regularly performed extremely poorly). As such, he *should* be expected to have been involved in a lot of the goals that were scored.
As I keep saying, our managers have been doing us a disservice by sticking with such a player on our wings for so long. The obvious failings of Henderson don't prove otherwise.
I guess kuyt is the flavor of the day,so i feel obliged to comment,as a former coach of a team,(non pro)i saw in him, a player who came to play every time he was picked,he played to the best of his ability with whoever was picked to play that day,no other agenda but to try and win,no over paid accusations,no racism crap no" buy british"stigma, just an honest to goodness professional plying his trade. If and when he does move on we should curb the criticism, wish him the best and thank our lucky stars he gave us the games he did.I still think a lot of lfc problems have to do with what goes on at Mellwood whats that old adage, "practice makes............."
ReplyDeleteIt's not 'misleading' wording at all - you're twisting the meaning of 'assist' to suit your argument. When a player provides an assist, there is a direct causal link between that player and the goal, i.e. if not for that the assisting player's contribution, the goal would not have been scored. That makes the player directly responsible for the goal.
ReplyDeleteKuyt has been directly responsible for 48 assists in 6 years; that's 48 goals LFC would not have scored without Kuyt providing an accurate final pass.
And Downing has played in midfield or as a winger all this season....His stats are....?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter where you play, you've still got to produce the goods. Dirk has done that, time and time again.
lets pay tributes 2 him 4 future survival...hope if KD stay 'll 4get him.......
ReplyDeleteOf course that wording is misleading - how can more than one player be "directly responsible" for a goal?? That just doesn't make any sense.
ReplyDeleteI'm not twisting anything at all - even the meaning of the word 'assist' in itself implies that the player is helping somebody else to achieve something, rather than being directly responsible for itself.
Kuyt may well have been responsible for a number of assists over the years, but that is clearly different to the number of goals that he was responsible for. And who's to say that the number would not have been eclipsed by a more gifted player being given those same opportunities on the pitch in our team...
