As regular readers will know, I was vehemently against the signing of Luis Suarez, with one of the main reasons being his shameless cheating in the World Cup quarter final against Ghana. After that infamous game, Suarez gloated about his 'hand of god' moment, and two years later, the Uruguayan remains rampantly unrepentant about his actions.
After Uruguay made it into the World Cup semi-final as a result of Suarez's cynical handball, he the following gloating, remorseless post-match statement:
"The Hand of God now belongs to me. Mine is the real Hand Of God. I made the best save of the tournament. Sometimes in training I play as a goalkeeper so it was worth it. There was no alternative but for me to do that and when they missed the penalty I thought 'It is a miracle and we are alive in the tournament'.
Two years is enough time to reflect on the incident, and you'd think that Suarez might now be willing to show a tiny bit of remorse for that gross display of unsporting behaviour. Think again - in an interview this week with Actualidad.rt yesterday, Suarez made it clear that that still thinks he did the right thing:
"On that occasion I did something legal which was to try to stop a goal with my hand. The referee did the right thing, which was to give a penalty kick, send me off and leave Uruguay with one less player".
Suarez shirked responsibility even more by pinning the blame for Ghana's exit on Asamoah Gyan:
"It was not me who took the penalty; it was a player by Ghana, and to be honest, it was his responsibility".
How can deliberately handling the ball on the line to prevent a certain goal be 'legal'? This twisted mindset has also been adopted by fans, who use the same excuse to defend Suarez's actions. Suarez also provided his own lesson on football morality:
"I said it once and and I will continue saying it: It is worse when a player goes deliberately fouls someone from behind, hurts his opponent and gets sent off"
Well, I guess Suarez's latest comments are marginally less damaging than his comments about cheating from a couple of weeks ago, when he told ESPN:
"The sacrifice I made [against Ghana] was because it was so important for Uruguay to make the semi-finals. I want to win this semi-final. If I am obliged to stop a ball in the last minute and Liverpool win, then I will repeat the action. Success for Liverpool is more important to me than anything else. But I do hope there is no drama like this for me."
Thank god for small mercies, eh?

I disagree with your analysis. LFC needs Suarez and we need him to score for us. All players take one for their teams. But you know that.
ReplyDeletehe really should keep his mouth shut.
ReplyDeletehe's also made comments again about the evra case.do we really need all that to be dragged up again with a new manager coming in?
"The suspension, I suppose, you could call strange and unbelievable," he
ReplyDeletesaid. "There was not a single convincing proof that I had done any of
the things they accused me of doing. I accepted it without saying
anything, obviously because they could have made [the suspension] longer
and it would have just made the whole thing continue, but my conscience
is completely calm, and so is that of the club."
A few points:
"I accepted it without saying anything". LOL. He bitches more than a two year old.
"my conscience
is completely calm" ....Idiot
"and so is that of the club" .........brings back memories of Kenny doing his post match interview wearing a Suarez t shirt *shudder*. If this ignorant fool worked in Mcdonald's they'd ship him off to Burger King sharpish.
This bloke is dead to me. He is ignorant on and off the pitch, a total idiot who consistently drags Liverpool's great name through the mud 'Diouf' style.
I would have done the same and so would anybody with any winning mentality... shame you don´t have that Jaimie, seems you only have the mentality to critisise?
ReplyDeleteyou're telling me if you were playing for liverpool in a champions league final, it was 3-3 and the opponents were about to score in the last minute you wouldn't do the same?
ReplyDeleteWhat he said makes sense. What he means is, the rules are: they get a penalty and i get sent off if I handball this. Therefore he took a hit to keep Uraguay in. HENCHOZ DID IT FOR US IN A CUP FINAL. Its not like he assaulted another player. Hes right, in essence the rules allow him to take a hit for his team to stop Ghana scoring.
ReplyDeleteAnybody who has actually played football, which obviously doesn't include JK, would have done the same.
ReplyDeleteBesides its not cheating. He committed a foul, conceded a penalty and was sent off.
I wouldn't say "legal" is the right word but Suarez is right about the whole thing. The punishment for intentionally handling a ball in the penalty area is a penalty kick + red card. He saw that the benefits outweighed the cost in that situation. What's the big deal?
ReplyDeleteIts like taking advantage of an inefficient market.
No, I wouldn't do the same. Can't you grasp the concept that not everyone on the planet has a cheater's mindset?
ReplyDeleteYes, you have to have played the massively complex game of football to understand the incredibly protracted rules.
ReplyDeleteWhat utter nonsense. First, I have played football to a decent level; second, don't tar everyone with the same brush - it's totally wrong to say that everyone would do the same thing. That view just shows how far standards have fallen.
Ok Jaimie!! Here is the deal.. Suarez deliberately handled the ball, got sent off.. got suspended for the semifinal.. Maybe not good sportsmanship but everything happened by the book. Ghana got a penalty, Ghana missed that penalty.. I don't see anything wrong in that.. You could raise questions on Suarez's sportsmanship.. But what you can also see is his desire to win.. The desire to put team before personal glory ( He missed the semi-final, and invited the hatred of the entire nation of Africa and apparently you).. Get over it.. It happened 2 years ago!!
ReplyDeleteJamie why don't you go and support another club u muppet, u seem to like everyone who Hasn't got anything to do with Liverpool football club, including woy
ReplyDeleteI can't see what you hope to gain from this. Nobody thinks Suarez is an angel, far from it, but i'd rather somebody be passionate enough for their team that they would do anything to win than certain players in our team that pick up the pay cheque and don't care win lose or draw. Your views are ofcourse valid, but I do wonder why you seem obliged to drag up the bad in Suarez. Why not talk about his fantastic goal against Russia for Uruguay instead of his handball about Ghana? We don't need our own fans spreading negativity over the web, especially at this moment. Your timing is very poor, not only is the club in turmoil but this incident with Ghana was in 2010. You would be much better off focusing on the positives not the negatives.
ReplyDeleteIt is called provoking a reaction, to do this one must be controversial and a little hypocritical, We are talking about the World cup! the German Goalkeeper re Lampards goal, I dont see anyone calling Him A cheat.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid all the comments are correct here- awful piece that's been shown pu well and truely
ReplyDeleteJamie, your continual attacks on Suarez could quite easily be mistaken for racial predudice. two wrongs dont make a right.
ReplyDeleteYou're a wuss Jaimie-who-ever who wrote this shite.
ReplyDeleteSuarez's comments about 'Hand of God' has been taken completely out of context here.Liverpool badly needs players with such die-hard commitment, or would you rather have twats like henderson who gets scared everytime they get near the box??
You're right, not everyone on this planet have the same mentality. Suarez is a winner, you are a loser!
ReplyDeleteSuarez made the comments YESTERDAY in an interview. If he says something in public then it can be discussed, whether you or anyone else likes it or not.
ReplyDeleteI would have done EXACTLY what Suarez did for his team and Country. Whatever it takes. Rules say you get ejected but the rules exist to handle (heheh) that situation. I'd think about having to explain to my teammates why I didn't block it with my hand when I could have and then be second guessing myself over the outcome for a long time after. Do whatever is necessary to win. Whether the ball hits the players hand on the ground or in the air, it's a violation covered by the rules. It's not cheating if the player is ejected for a handball, voluntary or not, in the penalty area, it's the rules. It's the clear, precise, and well understood rules. You're arguing intent and/or cheating and that's nothing but a slippery slope you're on. Suarez played the game to win and abided by the rules. He was punished according to those same rules. Good for him. Good for the rules.
ReplyDeleteMy comment hasn't been approved. Thisnis why I can't give this site any credibility as you can dictate any debate with your ability to control comments. I understand people will abuse you if this wasn't the case but you also have to ask the question why are they saying these things? I think you know why.
ReplyDeleteI can understand what Suarez did, I would have done the same when I played myself but Ashley young is a disgrace, I would never have done what He does in a million years, He disgusts Me.
ReplyDeleteTwat head
ReplyDeleteSuarez deluded? I don't think so. Most and I mean most players would have done what he did for their country. That's selflessness and taking one for your team. The fact that he would gladly do it for us is kind of endearing. The fact that you won't even consider doing it shows what kind of a weak, spineless, selfish individual you are.
ReplyDeleteJaime, I have read a lot of your articles and I have come arrived at two possible conclusions: either you are a closet Manc/Evertonian or you
are near about clueless on all matters Liverpool. You are a pathetic
excuse of a football writer and most of your articles are anti-Liverpool
drivel. Get a life man.
Listen to yourself; your lack of perspective is stunning: you call Ashley Cole a 'disgrace' for diving, yet deliberately hand-balling on the line is just fine and dandy.
ReplyDeletehow on earth is what suarexz did cheating. the handball of maradona was cheating because he conned everybody to socre an illegal goal. with suarez he wasnt thinking about conning people, just deliberately saving the ball from going in his net. the handball was so obvious he clearly wasnt trying to cheat. he was punished by been sent off and they had a clear chance to score from the spot. it is the same as a gk bringing someone down after they took it round him, or any foul on the pitch for that matter, but we dont say anyone who commits foul tackles are cheating do we? or maybe you do jamie i dont know
ReplyDeleteI read the first sentence of this article and it was enough to know that a) you're an absolute dick, and b) the rest of the article wasn't worth reading. also c) you're not a real liverpool fan.
ReplyDeleteGet a grip you fucking cretin.
Luke.
Erm could he have meant legal in the context of crime. As in, he did not commit a felony? Heeelllooooo football fans, there's a bigger world out there!
ReplyDeleteEvery article you write regarding Suarez is an attack on him.
ReplyDeleteWhat he did for Uruguay I would like him to repeat for Liverpool if there ever is a chance.
Your view disagrees with most but it's not just that incident.
When he said he wants to play in Spain someday you made it look like he said he wants to play for United today.
You write some outrages nonsense, I honestly don't think people rate your article at all, but they come here to read some stupid statements.
What's the difference between a handball, wasting time, or diving? They're all cheating whether they're called Suarez, Henchoz, Berbatov, Ashley Young, Torres, Terry, Drogba, etc...
ReplyDeleteSuarez is just atypical and says what he's thinking (which I find quite refreshing, actually)...
I agree with you about "that view shows how far standards have fallen", but that's not Suarez' fault (blame MM. Bosman and Johansson for that)...
the things some men would do for there country eh ??
ReplyDeleteand wat type of man is it that, that is so honest ??
i know if i had a player like suarez on my side i would know my back is well covered.
he is one in a million.
take your hat off to mr suarez, wat a man.
So if next season lfc is in the same situation whether it be a crucial league game which could leave us to number 19.suarez handles on the line opposing player misses the pen and lfc win the game and the title....would you celebrate or write a blog stating luis should be sacked for gross misconduct or something.... meanwhile were all celebrating....unreal. suarez is probably our best player and your banging on about this
ReplyDeleteBarring any further race rows the team should be built aroung Suarez, Suarez is the best player in the team and he has not flopped on the pitch like the overpaid garbage Downing, Henderson and Adam.
ReplyDeleteI dont profess to like the guy as a person whatsover but he has undoubted ability and he is one of the few players you would pay to watch in this team.
He punched the ball off the line, not the first man not the last, maybe he should of kept his mouth shut about it. Probably he will never go to Ghana for his holiday either. He is the only player you would fear at the moment in the LFC team and that includes the present day Stevie G who is not the powerhouse he was in the past anymore.
even Gyan admitted afterwards that HE WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING FOR HIS COUNTRY!!! Why omit that piece of the story?
ReplyDeleteSuarez obviously either misspoke or was taken out of context; he uses the word 'legal' but OBVIOUSLY knows it is illegal for a field player to do that, as he acknowledges the referee was right to take the actions he did.
Surely there are more important, and practical topics you can spend your summer scribbling about...
He avoided a goal in a forbidden manner, so he was shown red card. That's it, end of the story. If you're so much worried about "justice", then why don't you say anything about the previous stance? THE FREE KICK WAS AN INVENTION, did you see the match?
ReplyDeletebut he has just scored a fantastic goal against Norway.
ReplyDeleteBoring!!! Wind your neck in and change the record!!!
ReplyDeletewhat about Thierry Henry's handball it knocked Ireland out of the World Cup also. Dont hear many people apart from Irish people obviously bleating about it
ReplyDeleteNot this again, rolls eyes sarcastically.
ReplyDeleteGive it a rest Jamie, so you don't like him. Must be a slow day in the office eh :)
You might not Jamie but i bet your hand would, it was a reflex action, he got sent off, Gyan missed the penalty.
ReplyDeleteWas justice done, no.
But its getting tedious now it was 2 yrs ago, sometimes you just got to let things go. :)
Thats the problem with this site, its not what we want to discuss Jamie its what you want to discuss, its called a dictatorship, and ban me if you wish. But just see the point, things that are important to you Jamie are not as important to me or others on here.
ReplyDeleteCheating implies an element of deception. There was none in what Suarez did. It was clear that he would be sent off and the appropriate punishment was meted out. All rule breaking is not necessarily cheating.
ReplyDeleteI agree with spike that it's much harder to discount the possibility of doing the same yourself when you think about it in an actual match context. Easy to take the moral high ground from your couch.
Can we talk about something positive regarding LFC, ie i have heard that Brenda the tea lady at Melwoods cat has been unwell, but after a course of tablets he is now on the mend.
ReplyDeleteOh and i am sure Suarez meant illegal, probably a typo, bit like
"Official: Liverpool have offered Roberto Martinez the managers job."
Sometimes your fingers can slip on them keys, especially if you have been eating an orange at the keyboard
You don't know it was deliberate act or a split second reaction. It was a reflex and the other side was awarded a penalty. Get over it and move on dear.
ReplyDeleteWhat you're doing is shit stirring to get folks to respond. I think Suarez is an awesome player and good for LFC.
Probably a TYPO :)
ReplyDeleteFuk off jamie if u dont like suarez then dont write about him fair play to him id do the same if i was in suarez position. ban me if you like who do u think u are giving out. ban me if you like would prefer if u did sick of reading the shite comes out of your mouth wanker
ReplyDeleteI would expect every proffesional player to do exactly the same, its not cheating as you keep saying Jamie, it is a move that's against the rules of the game and that was duly punished. Diving , throwing yourself down to get a penalty without contact or pretending to be injured in an attempt to get a player sent off is in my opinion far worse as its an attempt to deceive the referee in an attempt to get an unfair advantage
ReplyDeleteI think its quite obvious that you don't like the player ,and that's your prerogative but I think you would find yourself in the minority in any kind of poll on the player.....
I think the usual tone of sensationalism and absolute lack of
ReplyDeleteunderstanding of the game becomes more and more apparent with each blog
post Mr. Kanwar puts up. Over the top headline to draw you in and then a
backward view with an expected over the top defence of what he has said
to follow in the comment section. Living for the page views. I hope the
visit counter really makes this all worthwhile.
what a dickhead you really are kanwar, if your a true liverpool supporter then ill stand hanging, you hate suarez and expect us all to do the same, grow up, go support man u if you dont already and learn how to write constructive articles & not the utter drivel you usually write, are you related to paul parker by any chance.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you tombom. Jamie would have done the same. reflexively anyone would have done it to keep their team in the world cup. I must admit jamie you are clueless when it comes to serving your country and doing what is right for your country. Suarez doesnt care what people think about him, he does what he thinks is right and not many people possess that trait. suarez recieves way to much stick for things that are debatable.
ReplyDelete-Suarez is victimized for handballing on the line for his country and keeping his team in the world cup. If this was an english player like terry nothing would be said.
-Suarez banned for "supposedly racially abusing evra" with evra having a history with false complaints against racist abuse to himself. No proof to ban suarez for abuse. In fact if i was luis i would sue fergie, evra and the fa for defamation.
- Terry definitly abuses anton ferdinand with video proof of racist abuse. Fa are yet to take to take action. terry set to appear to court.
The bite from suarez was a bit unacceptable so he did deserve the ban for the bite. But really players have done worse with less fuss.
Terry against barca, barton vs city,
So jamie i honestly dont care what you think, but there is no hiding the fact that suarez is a brilliant admirable footballer who has become a scapegoat for everyone to blame.
Well played... Especially given that Uruguay won it first... but this is old news. Football is and will always be, full of controversy. Here's one for you. Maradona's "goal of the century, was actually an own goal... check it...
ReplyDeleteI probably would have done the same as Suarez... Country first, Controversy later.
did suarez refuse to sign an autograph jamie sad sad sad same old jamie slaging lfc off cant ya say anything constructive towards the club, you must have played in the most perfect league in the world or didnt want to win anything,i would love to see your trophy collection from your perfect football league witch you played in or did they not have winners or losers ?????????
ReplyDeleteEveryone has a winning mentality - who likes to lose at anything?, but not everyone wants to win by any means , especially by cheating. When did being fair and honest become a bad trait?
ReplyDeletesomany players have come out and said they would do the same + he said he woulddo it for liverpool if it meant they would win a cup. The overall win for the team is more important than one player. Its been two years, you dont hear everyone still going on about Henry's handball. Just remember what suarez has done for LFC and let the past bethe past
ReplyDeleteYou're insane if you wouldn't have done what Luis did to save his team in the World Cup. Gyan himself said that he would have done the same exact thing that Luis did. No wonder why you're writing articles instead of playing. Winners will do whatever it takes to win
ReplyDeleteWhy do you always have to go on about Suarez? Not a week goes by without you criticising his every breath. Give it a break eh JK and support the best LFC player we have at the moment. You're becoming the biggest WUM out there.
ReplyDeleteEnough already. This is starting to be embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteYes, Suarez cheated, but cheating is overlooked by so many. I've lost count of the times Carragher & Skrtel have tugged an attackers shirt in the box, both have made a career out of cheating this way and it's the same with players that dive, or feign injury etc, perhaps we should kick them all out of the game? Cheating is cheating after all and there is no gradient for me. But what Suarez did is the same as all these things and the same as the last ditch, professional foul. Maybe we should sack all defenders who have made one? Vidic vs Torres for example.
ReplyDeletei am only interested why are you so against him? every day you say something about him? why do you dislike him? don't you have any other better topics to write about?
ReplyDeletewho are you for? for Chelsea? Man utd.? Man City? or for Liverpool FC? if so then respect the decision and the fact that he is there, Liverpool's player, and please, PLEASE, do stop writing about the man who gave us something to be happy about, to look forward to - spirit of the game! today every team cheats, even Barcelona has a practice how to do it, how to fall down with a simple touch, Real Madrid has the worst tackling players, have you seen Drogba against Barcelona and Bayern M?
the real thing is that every player does it, it is just a question how and when... it has been so in the past and it is going to be so in the future, there is the referee to make a decision about it, whether it is wrong or right! you just have to live with it! please try to learn it! Liverpool FOREVER YNWA
No one has an absolute obligation to obey any rule or law. Laws need to be viewed as contracts between society and individuals (in this case between FIFA and players). Any law will have a (maximum) punishment defined for trangression. If you murder someone then (in the UK) you may face life imprisonment. If there is someone you wish were dead you do the calculation of how much do I value them being dead againt the value I put on my liberty multiplied by the chance of being caught and convicted. That is an extreme example, but worth raising to set the scene. In the Suarez World Cup case the choice was "do I allow the ball to cross the line which (given the time in the game) is a ~99% chance of being knocked out?" or "do I handle the ball, get sent off and give away a penalty which is a ~80% chance of being knocked out?". Suarez then has a split second decision as to which is his best course of action to help his team win the game. Under the laws of the game he made the right decision. It was better for his team to have him sent off and concede the penatly than to allow the goal to be scored. If you don't like this and consider it to be cheating (which it is) then your gripe should not be with Suarez but with the laws of the game. Maybe you would like the sanction for preventing a definite goal to be a goal and a sending off rather than a penaly and a sending off? Under the de facto contract created by the laws of the game Suarez would have been letting his team down not to have handled the ball.
ReplyDeletePlease ban me so i dont have to keep cliping on your shite you piss me off no end
ReplyDeleteclicking even
ReplyDeleteYou seem like a smart individual, I'm sure you can find a topic which can educate people, rather than aiming for an easy target ( Suarez). I must mention that im not his biggest fan, but negative views about him are well documented.
ReplyDeleteJamie
ReplyDeleteYou are becoming totally obsessive. Time to close down the site. Bye Bye
So he's a "cheater" because he broke the rules? How did he break the rules? He used his hands. Alright, answer me this. Is fouling another player right? Nope. Doesn't it state in the rules that you can't foul another player? yes, it's against the rules. So why doesn't fouling count as cheating? Defenders do it all the time, almost every player does it but they are not cheaters. They concede a free kick/penalty and that's compensation for it. NO ONE says you can't handball it or tackle someone. You totally can, every game. But if you do, you have to face the consequences. Suarez was willing to face those consequences.
ReplyDeleteSide note, Gyan himself once said, "If it was me, I would have done the same exact thing. He saved his country, he's a hero."Answer this, Jamie.
Is it really cheating? I don't think so, he deliberately handled the ball and conceded a penalty and earned a red card. Tit for tat. At the end of the day it was his heroics and determination that kept uruguay in the competition.
ReplyDeleteThe difference is Ashley Young disgraced himself by diving with intention to deceive everyone to win penalty. Worst, even with evidence he was not punished and got away scott-free.
ReplyDeleteWhat Suarez did was to sacrifice himself for the sake of the team. He was punished according to the rules and thats that. Case closed!
Football players all over the world throw themselves in front of the ball to prevent a goal, I don't see what Suarez did any different. It became a media frenzy because of the importance of the match but overall it was just one of thousands of incidents that occur in every football match. At least it was seen by the referee and duly dealt with, lots of other actions by players do not. It was a gamble by Suarez as the penalty could have been scored and Uruguay would have had a player less in attempting a comeback. If England get to the important matches in the Euros and Glen Johnson is standing on the line when the ball flies past the keeper I wouldn't think any less of Johnson if he saved it with his hand and prevented a goal.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah Jamie?? still complaining and crying...so suarez did that deliberately and he was given the straight red card as he deserves...but what if ghyan scored that penalty and ghana went to the semis!!??would there have been all this fuss all around!!?it was his responsibility to take ghana to the semis, not suarez's fault...suarez did what he had to do...and its not the end of the world when that happened...remember england lost a final due to this quite of thing...and maradonna claimed that goal...so with all due respect JK, think before you talk or write...y dont you find some positive articles on our club and sing it to us??
ReplyDeletePah...
ReplyDeleteWe've long since got over it mate..
Not like the English and Maradona's 'hand of God' .. now thats what you call bleating on about something.. zzzzzzzzzzzz LOL

Subject: [liverpoolkop] Re: Luis Suarez insists: World Cup cheating against Ghana was 'legal'. Deluded...? | Liverpool-Kop.com
Most would agree they would do the same, too many people jump on the bandwagon and criticise
ReplyDeleteIf the goalkeeper is on the goal line, than its not an 'open goal'
ReplyDeleteYour biased opinion against Suarez is based on things that I have seen loads of other players do (hand ball off the line ) and the Evra incident.
ReplyDeleteGive the lad a brake and find something positive to say for a change.
The words "cheat" or "cheating" are not mentioned in the official rules, not by the FA and not by FIFA. There is also no explanation in those rules that would confirm or contradict Suarez's assertion that what he did was "legal". Why would there be? It's not important to the game. That kind of moralistic and evangelical assessment is an afterthought, a point of view, nothing more. There is no "fact" or "truth" that anyone can point to because the game continues to be played, Suarez continues to represent his country and his lack of empathy for Ghana is totally irrelevant. Clearly, if what Suarez says was utterly unacceptable then he would just be banned for life from ever playing the game at any level, but he's not. His point of view is probably frowned upon by a majority but I'm not sure it's an 80 or 90% majority. I'd say there are probably many millions of football fans out there who agree with him. That's also just a point of view. It's not in the rules, it's not even written down somewhere. It's opinion, that's all.
ReplyDeleteAlso, people need to understand that although JK writes these articles with a specific style and assertiveness, he is (self-admittedly) still just expressing HIS opinion. He may talk about it like it's just fact and unacceptable to think otherwise but it really is just his point of view. He knows that and people would do well to remember it. He pushes it out there very strongly but it's entirely your choice if you want to take that personally.
Maybe if Suarez continues to make these comments the footballing world will want to come to some better understanding and say for sure that those kinds of actions really are (un)acceptable. So the rules could be changed to explicitly say that and appropriate bans could be brought in. Perhaps 12 games for "brining the sport into disrepute". Still, it's kind of important to note that this isn't the case. It's not that clear cut and I think you'd find FIFA officials have already argued for many many hours over this exact issue.
But if it's such an issue, so clearly important and fundamental to the game, why not write them a letter to ask for clarification? If anyone can help bring this issue out of the realms of subjective ranting then it's those who make the official rules.
Its wrong in some ways but most would the same. Such levels of 'gamesmanship' is acceptable
ReplyDeleteYep, Suarez has never dived...
ReplyDeletenot really. Ashley Young tries to deceive the referee when he dives and literally earn a penalty. On the other hand, Suarez isn't fooling the referee at all. The referee sees what he did and the righteous punishment is executed - a sending off and a penalty. So many players "take one for the team" in today's day and age and that's what he did there. I agree that it's wrong to do it, but I don't deem it cheating as he was punished for it by the book. Ultimately, Gyan had a penalty which he should've put away and if he had, let's face it, I doubt we'd still be talking about this.
ReplyDeleteTechnically Surez is right, however and a big however! morally he was way out of line. Was he operating within the rules of the game? technically he was, but morally no chance. For me it depends on who is the loosing and winning side that defines how you see the incident. Maradona from the English side is the biggest cheating B****** there is, however in argentina he is a god. When maradona done his infamous handball it was only a couple of years after argentina where battered down the falklands so his hand of god moment to argenitina fans was like the scottish version of bannockburn (a place where scottish people battered crap out of the English eons ago). I always remember the CL final in 2005, gerrard runs through and goes down, my everton supporting friends instantly says 'diving b******, where as i say 'dirty B******'about Gatusso. That for me defines the whole argument of wether it is cheating or not. How many times have you said penalty when your attacking but always defend your defenders if a penalty is given against your team? that is the nature of football and it is the reason why in Ghana they will say Surez is a cheat and in Uraguay, Surez is a hero who thrust to teams needs before his own, knowing he would be castrated in the media.
ReplyDeleteI agree mate, it took balls to do what Suarez did, he knew he would be sent off and miss the next two games. HE didn't cheat, he broke the rules - there IS a difference. Henry's handball against the Rep. of Ireland in the playoff was cheating. He wasn't punished, RoI were as the France goal stood, similarly with Maradona's handball in '86.
ReplyDeleteIf Gyan had scored the resulting penalty, would anybody be speaking about it now?
ReplyDeleteMate, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, some agree, others don't. I don't agree with anything you have just said but it doesn't mean I think any less of you - I don't know you for a start but, in the same vein, my brother is a Man Utd fan, doesn't make him a bad person or any less of a brother to me. It's just how the world works.
ReplyDeleteLook at Chelsea & Drogba, to them, he's the ultimate hero and quiet rightly so, after the goals he has scored in cup finals. To almost every other fan of every other team, he's a roll around on the floor whining pussy of a cheat. But, hey, he scores important goals and Chelsea have won stuff from his goals. Hopefully Suarez will be as important to us as Drogba was to them.
i dont hear anyone mentioning phil neville's 'superb goal line save' in goodison a few years back?we scored the peno, won the game, and that was the end of that!
ReplyDeleteit is blaringly obvious the only 'spectacular' point of this story is that Ghana MISSED the peno!not suarez's actions or comments thereafter.
Jamie you don't seem to be able to take into account the way the continental and South American player see what is acceptable in trying to win a game and how they will do things like handle the ball, dive and I'm sure that you will have seen the way that matches have fallen into mass brawls. I think you have over reacted about Saurez and this hand ball. I was happy that he said he would take a red card in the cause, thats commitment, like bringing someone down when you are winning one nil in acup final with a couple of minutes to go to win it like Kevin Moran 1985. Another couple of examples for you Jamie, should Terry Mc have let the ball go in against West Ham in the League cup final isn't that the same as Saurez. Would you have complained if Ray Houghton or Steve Nichol had brought Micheal Thomas down in 89 to win us the league. You have a downer on him so give it a rest with the constant hatered he plays for us and is a good player comminted to us. I won't go into the devisive way the Man U situation was manipulated but what ever happened initially that was twisted by them to attack the whole club. They have committed the real crime in that case.
ReplyDeletewould you same the same thing if he would have brought a player down who was clear though on goal?? (ie by a foul).. cos i don't think you would, so please feel free to explain the difference to me..
ReplyDeleteJamie...with all due respect your analysis and opinion is one dimensional, subjective and quite honestly wrong. The RULES of the game have been set to account for all actions and with that a fair punishment is actioned in accordance. If it is illegal for a player to commit a foul inside the penalty area, then the punishment is a penalty. If it is a goal-scoring opportunity, then the punishment is also a sending off. Simple Facts.
ReplyDeleteWhen Suarez, who has trained all his life to play professional football at the highest level is representing his national team in the Quarter Finals of the FIFA World Cup in the biggest match of his life is on the goal line and the ball is speeding at him into the roof of the net to knock his National Team and send his team mates home packing, there is ONLY ONE thing he can do...do what he can to keep it out!!! And anyone and I mean ANYONE who can dare to call him a cheat either is speaking from a very biased opinion OR has never EVER played the game of football on any level.
This is NOT cheating. Cheating is feigning injury to gain time, diving to gain a foul that did not happen, bribiing a referee...those are cheating. Handling a ball destined for the goal illegally is a FOUL, a calculated FOUL. The punishment for that is two-fold: A penalty, and a sending off, meaning that the team will play the entire remaining match (in this case a few seconds) without said player and said player would also miss the next match. That player, Luis Suarez, did what EVERY single player in the world would have done...be it Gerrard for England, Kuyt for Holland, or Skrtel for Slovakia. They would have handled and take a chance rather than accept certain defeat.
Now I agree 100% with Suarez here...every professional would have done it. And it remained for Gyan to slot the ball in the goal and claim the victory that all of Africa and the world (except Uruguay) wanted. But he didnt have the composure nor the temperament to do so. Suarez's celebration on the sidelines were totally justifiable as he vindicated his instincts and decision to handle the ball.
The sooner we accept that and get on with it the better. Suarez is a great player and acted in exactly the same way that any other player would have, and those who cant admit it are simply lying!
I am in agreement .
ReplyDeleteLuis Suarez is only trying to pretend he is a human being because as we all know he is a robot & robots dont play or have a concept of "Sport" because they dont have a playful nature !
Suarez should be forced to confess under torture to being a robot & then that would set a precedent where by we can do away with referee's because there will be no need for them once all the robots stop pretending to be humans & simply just play by the rules .
Simples !
No Brainer !
Sack Dalglish !
No Team in the history of football dropped two league places while winning a Cup that returns them to European Competition while using a squad with at least 4 senior professionals less than every team that finished above them , let alone since Bill Shankly was manager !
Its preposterous !
Bla Bla Bla !
Drivel Drivel Drivel !!!
Bla Bla Bla !
Negative mis informed and ignorant views are aimed at Saurez. There is a witch hunt going on by the press and other media outlets they should concentrate directly on his footballing ability pundits and sports journalists continually harping back to what has gone and been dealt with now is becoming a bit tired. Sports people should be reporting what is happening now and not constantly going back to resurect stories that are finished. I'm sure this is why the Saurez issue keeps arising , if he is not asked the leading questions he will not responded to and therefore the none or no longer news worthy story will be gone. If the media want to do something about racism in general in society they should do that and not harrass a person who has served his sentence.
ReplyDeleteHi Jaimie, what is the point of the timing of this article?
ReplyDeleteSo what if he handled the ball in probably the most important game of his life and arguably Uruguay's most important game in donkeys years. He wanted to win.
Have you ever told a lie or done anything that wasn't "strictly by the book" to gain some kind of advantage? I bet you can't honestly answer no and realistically what is the difference?
It's not like he robbed an old granny.
Watch Gerrard through the whole of next season and count the amount of dives he makes, I'm not saying he's a repeat diver, but he definitely does do it from time to time.
ReplyDeleteDo you want him to leave or precious club too?
When he said it was legal he meant within the laws of the game, hence the appropriate punishment, even you should be able to work that one out jamie. Cant believe you are still not over this. Had Suarez gotten away with it you could have said he cheated like Henry v ireland, maradona v England. this was an instinctive reaction, if you watch it in realtime you see that he would have had 100s of a second to make that decision. Even Gyan and Muntari have said they would have done the same. Your constant negativity towards Suarez is getting really pathetic. get a new hobby.

ReplyDeletewhy dont this fella leave suarez alone.he has been on his case evr since.lets have new topics pliz.dont u have anything else to wite on,yes there is freedom of speech but u are abusing it sir
ReplyDeleteThis whole story is just stupid. Now can anyone tell me why have we stopped with AVB and are (according to a lot of press)now looking at Rodgers, Lambert who the hell is leading FSG, FFS LVG wants the job give it to him and lets get going.
ReplyDeletecheating or deceiving isn't good, but that is life in football now. if it wins us a game/cup, thanks i will take it. if it goes against us, take it on the chin. football is about winning and i hate losing, so now, i will take a dodgy win all day...i hate losing!!!!!!. it isn't the way i was brought up to play, and i don't like it, but there you go.
ReplyDeleteit says young, not cole. just thought id point that out for you
ReplyDeleteI wrote to Jiamie telling him to lift his game
ReplyDeleteand that he seems to be writing negative articles on Liverpool players and manager (Kenny & Rafa) with the knowledge of how loyal some many fans are and that the reaction will increase his popularity. Funny enough my thoughts ( commens) were edited to leave some of the flatering commens about Jaimie but not the full content of my message! I think Jaimies defense to this will be I don't do the editing and that its done by a third party, well, my commens were critical NOT abusive of as much as you are to our players (legal, Suarez) so if this moderator isnt YOU or someone protecting your fragile feelings Jaimie, then why didn't he/she or YOU post the full content. Lol
I love this site, keep it up jamie!
ReplyDeletedude, gyan said so himself, he would've done the same thing. You criticize dalglish for not being in the modern game and all that (which I agree), and for that you can't be an idealist that thinks all them ol' values and standards stand today. Besides it's gettin' old
ReplyDeleteOkay, but still, in a penalty, the kicker has the advantage and the pressure is on him, not the goalie. That was my point.
ReplyDeletewhen kevin moran got sent off it was 0.0.it was to stop a player going threw on goal.utd then scored in extra time.I know this as it was the first fa cup final i ever watched. But your point is still valid.
ReplyDeletewhen maradona scored the hand of god goal what did you say about that. why dont you just leave this guy alone. there are rules guiding this game, he paid for the consequence by been sent off and luckily the chance came back to ghana and their player blew it. there is no difference from what he did with a player hacking down a player that is goal bound and a penalty awarded and the advantage team team blew it... its part of the game. there is no moral sentiment to be attached to this. please, please and please for God's sake live thjis poor chap alone.
ReplyDeleteyour own country would have wished any of your player could do that for them to get to the required result.
football is a game that is been played by rules. no rules say that is a cheating, but there is a penalty for such an infringement.
thank you.
Then you shouldn't be insulting Suarez on a weekly basis and grow up and realize taking down a player with a tackle that's about to score is the same thing and happens all the time..
ReplyDeleteSomething positive going on at Liverpool jamie? Just made up your not around with your negativity(apart from woy). Take your negative attitude down the m57 pls
ReplyDeleteCause he carnt he is twisted in the headc
ReplyDeleteyeah and then there'd be no players allowed to play apart from gary liniker!!!
ReplyDeleteJaimie I have read most of ur articles about this incident, by now u would have known that the world isnt fair. Question do u like tackles in football? if yes its no different from what Suarez did.
ReplyDeleteReshub i wouldnt say he invited the hatred of the entire Africa, am an African and the truth is i like Suarez and fully support what he did. And on Evra's case, i find that Evra is a racist coz his black
ReplyDeletebut ashamed being black shame on him. am black and am proud of being black
If he disgraces himself and the club, then yes. I know he doesn't have a perfect track record in this area, but he's far from Suarez' league when it comes to diving and whining.
ReplyDeleteSuarez Rock He`s the best he do a good thing for he's country in that game against ghana..! I wish him the Best, he's an amazing football player.!
