Agent confirms: "Liverpool are interested" in €18m wing star. Replace Downing?

The Agent of Liverpool target Manuel Agudo Durán - aka Nolito - has confirmed that Liverpool are interested in signing the former Barcelona midfielder.

The €18m-rated Spanish midfielder currently plays for Benifica, and this season, he's chipped in with 10 goals in 11 starts for the Portuguese giants, which is an excellent creative return.

Speaking to TSF yesterday, Oscar Font - Nolito's Agent - said:

"Clubs like Valencia and Liverpool are interested in him but there are still no concrete proposals. For now his challenge is to stay here and have an even better season individually and collectively to win major titles."

Nolito has a contracted with Benfica until 2016, so the chances are that if a deal goes through, the transfer fee will be quite high.

Worth a bid?

  4. No! LFC should not be a dumping ground for average players. The number of starts this guy had tells a story by itself.

More importantly, LFC should go for players with a winning mentality - players that have tenacity and work for the team! There are plenty of such players in the Dutch, French and Belgian leagues. In Portugal, may be it is worth gambling on Christian Rodriguez of Porto.

  5. If only we could pick up a player for next to nothing and him prove to be a great player and actually contribute to the team.

  6. Who within LFC is actually interested in signing this player considering there is no manager or director of football at present?

  7. Will you guys listen to yourselves.  You are making yourselves look like fools.  Do we have a replacement for Kenny? No, Or Steve and Damien? No.  So who the hell is looking for these Downing or any other player replacements?  Nobody, that's who.  So please stop believing everything you read in the papers or web posts.

  8. Said it before and I'll say it again, Liverpool need a midfield general. Try and prize Steven Defour from Porto if you go shopping in Portugal.....

  15. Gano1 is correct,Rafa has been shortlisted by FSG.There was an exclusive not so long ago with a reputable reporting medium, its now been taken down but my guess is FSG want no publicity on the matter while they think it through.Just look at the betting Rafas odds have collapsed to be next manager. Please everyone sit down and pray for the spanish Emperor to return, all our prayers and positive energy might travel to Boston and just make the difference.

Yes I agree as long as he is allowed, each transfer window, to go for his no. 1 choice player; you can see the quality he bought when going for his no. 1.
Also don't forget he is a very astute chess player who knows how to juggle many factors at the same time.
I hope he has learnt to delegate certain responsibilities around him because if he does get the seat then, if left to tactics and organisation, with an exceptional no. 2 next to him, he would do wonders.
Just not sure whether Liverpoolfc needs a total and complete break from one whole emotionally charged era in order to evolve and transform into the 'butterfly' it can be.

  23. I want to see CL as Champions not just 4th place so you can enter the competition as the Champion which what the tournament is called. Most of you are happy to accept 4th place. 4th place was failure under Shankley and Paisley, too many seasons without being the Champion as lowered most peoples expectations here, you should be aiming for the ultimate prize. The EPL title  is in this country that prize.

  24. What people tend to forget a freebie is not free you pay them collossal wages because you have signed them for nothing. Joe Cole for example, QPR signed Joey Barton for a nominal fee but it will cost them 11m to get rid of him to pay of his contract. Bellamy is on a large wage probably far more than most of his teammates. McManaman let his contract run down and signed for Real for nothing. However he got a huge contract despite still not being able to afford a haircut. So you get nobody for nothing.

  25. English clubs have a habit of playing weaker times than they  play in the Carling Cup in the Europa League, ie Spurs and Villa under O'Neill. Benitez himself probably would put out a weak team in this competition.
Fulham shot up the league this season as soon as they were knocked out.
Thursday/Sunday is a recipe for mid table mediocrity. The competiton is not worth the hassle of being in it.

  26. I was talking about an unknown player, signing him for nothing and only paying him minimal wages. Him then turning out to be a star. I know they are few and far between but like I said before it would be nice.

  27. That's a great idea.. I also have a good one: we should get lots of good players and win the Premier League.

  38. Yep, Rafa has a track record with juggling different competitions.....a mediocre (at best) one. He wasn't able to genuinely really compete for both PL and CL at the same time, it was either one or the other mostly. As his rotational skills and getting the best out of non-first XI players were poor. Great with the first XI, Rafa but beyond the first XI, he is rather tame (hence, despite having one of the biggest and the best squad in Serie A, his dire league form at Inter, as he wasn't able to field the first XI due to injuries to the likes of Sniejder, Milito, etc and did a pants job with the alternatives in the league).

  39. What about 2007???

    ReplyDelete
  40. what happened in his last season?

    ReplyDelete
  41. correct. this holy grail of a top four finish, is the scourge of football today. it isn't an ambition to actually win anything anymore. as long as you get one of those places, you have had a successful season. what a load of rubbish. going back to wembley was great, i loved it. however, our owners want a business model like arsenal's. all they are bothered with is a top four finish. cups? nah, you can have them....and that is the way we will go. people moan that all we do is look back and refer to our 'history'. yep, i certainly do, i was lucky to witness so many great cup winning days, something, when we go down the above said, route, that young fans probably will not experience again, for a very long time. how sad.

  43. I don't do praying but we just won't get anyone else anywhere near Rafa's ability it seems

He lives locally, loved by the fans, currently available, knows the club, great cv, players respect him

Martinez just isn't an option. Come back Rafa!!!!

  45. In this 21st Liverpool must recruit a class act manager like Jose Mourinho and players of the caliber of several Lionel Messis to dominate English and European soccer. Anything short of that will simply spell more mid-table mediocrity. Mark my words!

    ReplyDelete
  46. in honesty it makes no sense to discuss possible Liverpool targets if the club has no one to act on the targets. There is no manager , no  assistant manager and know director of foot-ball. What you have to realize is that when a new coach is hired he will have his own targets identified and will then act on them.

Liverpool is indeed in need  of a striker who can score for fun. Some one who is a goal poacher . Someone who will fight to score the ugly goal in the 6 yard box
