Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is under intense pressure at the moment, and after a terrible run of eight defeats in the last thirteen Premier League matches, the oft-repeated accusation that he has 'lost his touch' after being out of the game so long seems to have renewed merit. Former Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman is having none of it though, and he's launched an impassioned defence of the manager who signed him in 1987.
Speaking to The Mirror, Spackman - who was an integral part of Liverpool's title-winning 87-88 'dream team' - insisted that the he was 'certain' Dalglish would not walk away from the club, and refuted suggestions that the Scot was out of touch with modern football. He said:
"I have heard it said that he has lost touch, but that is absolute rubbish. Maybe he is not a great coach, but he is an excellent man-manager. He spots details in someone’s game that other people miss. He is very thorough. He will have pointed out adjustments to improve their game. If they listen, he will make them better"
If Dalglish is such an 'excellent man-manager' then where is the evidence of that this season? His players don't seem motivated, and whatever 'adjustments' he's suggested to them don't appear to be working.
Spackman concluded:
"Kenny will be determined to get it right at Anfield. He can be ruthless and one or two players may discover that this summer"
The time to be ruthless was four months ago; under-performing players should've been benched, and another striker should've been bought. Instead, Dalglish has endlessly indulged his flops in the futile hope they'll come good, and that has affected the club, which now sits in 8th place in the league with no chance of Champions League football next season.

From the start of the season, we noticed that Dalglish doesn't have any tactics and gives preferences to his flops. We are struggling in the league and we are deprived again from another Champions League qualification. If you look at Wenger, Mancini and Ferguson they have got the character to make immediate changes when the team is not in a correct position, they shout and sometimes gives punishment to underperforming players. Dalglish just fold his hands and watch the game silently. He lacks the power to improve players. He SHOULD GO.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to have 11 players like Balotelli than having 1 Carroll in my team.
Your last paragraph sums things up perfectly, Jaime. We need to buy quality during the summer - if JH decides to allow the funding.
ReplyDeleteA bit of patience is needed here, Kenny needs more time, it took Shankly a while to sort things too.....
ReplyDeleteSuccess will take time....
Finances seem to be in good state, CL money would help too obviously
Gap in match day income between ourselves and non-sugar daddy clubs in too big - needs to be addressed

Didn't Kenny change tactics early yesterday? Going 442 from 4231? Moving Gerrard to the RW and putting Kuyt up front with Suarez which had the right effect except for rubbish finishing?
ReplyDeleteKD did say this was a rebuilding process and not to get hopes up for this season. Carroll was a panic buy due to Judas selling out at the last moment.

jk u say u support LFC everything I read of urs criticises the greatness of my club (not ours) u are a total waste of space. King Kenny will always be King Kenny, and he has already brought a trophy to the club after 6 years of pure shite from Rafa and a few months of wroy!!!
ReplyDeleteHim being ruthless would have meant admitting that he's wasted all that money. And as u say Jamie the time to b ruthless was 4months ago. There is no point now. Im already trying to forget this season. I'm worried that next season will b the same if he's still there. God helP us.
ReplyDelete"If we keep trying it will turn but sometimes there will be some people whose paranoia sets in and they will think there is an agenda against the club from people in importance"
ReplyDeleteSo far I have not asked for Kenny to be removed, I have some fond childhood memories of him and he will always be one of my favourite players.... but I am being blunt now for the good of the club - his conduct and opinions are damaging LFC - I just cannot understand him nor the fans that are buying into the rubbish coming out of his mouth in regards to conspiracy theories / agenda's. We need someone who can handle the pressure and it is blatantly obvious Kenny cannot hack it.
Avoid the ex liverpool cheerleaders Jaimie. It's good for debate i know. No objectivity or honesty in opinion.

ReplyDeleteDidn't Malky Mackay say Kenny gave a talk on his
ReplyDeleteUEFA Pro-Licence course? If UEFA think he is qualified enough to give talks to up and coming managers/coaches how can fans question Kenny's credentials for being Liverpool's manager?
your insistance on calling ordinary players legends and stars is just plain silly.
ReplyDeleteEr. You do know there is a difference between the coaching role and the manager's role don't you? No? Oh dear.
ReplyDeleteAt Utd Ferguson has a coaching team that deals with coaching. So did Rafa. Both of these guys are better manager's than coaches. Ferguson has said several times that he lets the coaches get on with it. Shankly, Paisley, Fagan and Dalglish all had coaches doing the coaching - you might remember Roy Evans for example.
If you didn't know this, you do now.
If you're a fan though, stirring the pot like this isn't really all that helpful. Especially if you're conflating two different roles. I don't begrudge anyone questioning the manager but you might want to reconsider your headline - it's very likely to lead some people to think Spackman is questioning Kenny's management credentials - and he's not, quite the opposite.
If we want to succeed we have to back our team and our manager.
As for comments about sticking with "flops" - we have the players we have. We can only refine the team during the transfer windows but the idea that we shouldn't have given the players who managed to beat Utd, City, Chelsea etc a chance to get some consistency after January seems a little shortsighted to me. The idea that Kenny should motivate players by coming out and saying how bad they are beggars belief - Shankly and Paisley never did it, it's not the Liverpool way. The any manager's ever come is after Bolton. Kenny's press conference after that game shows exactly why he's the right manager for us. Long term.
But it's a long term project. Look at Ferguson's 11th and 13th places for evidence of that.
KD - YNWA
Nigel Spackman says that Dalglish " may not be a great coach, but is an excellent man-manager". I would prefer it if it was the other way round. The qualities of a great coach should automatically include the ability to be able to man-manage. He is being paid to manage a world renowned football team not to cosy-up to his players.
ReplyDeleteYou might want to write a book embodying this strategy.
ReplyDelete"How to Motivate People by Telling the World they are Crap"
or
"How to sell your car by listing all its' problems"
The Liverpool way is to do all of this stuff behind closed doors. Find me a clip of Shanly or Paisley criticising their players and I'll concede the point.
As much as I hate to admit it, very rarely has a manager taken over a club and made them invincible in a short amount of time. If this process takes a few years it takes a few years. Ferguson, shanks, wenger all set the club up how they wanted to run it then after that came the stability of winning. There is no quick fix. If Liverpool players can't motivate themselves to play for kenny Dalglish at anfield....they are not Liverpool players . I guess we'll just have to trust kenny..
ReplyDeleteHe's not the coach though, he's the manager.
ReplyDeleteFebruary 6th we were 4 points behind Chelsea in 4th place.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of January it wasn't unreasonable to think we could make up the gap. Especially as the team seemed to be clicking into gear around then. It's certainly a reasonable course when you consider the consequences of chopping and changing the team. Notwithstanding the availability of players.
A lot of the complaining seems to ignore this simple fact. No manager can move players on or bring players in before the transfer window opens. If some of you were Utd fans you'd have dumped de Gea in January too.
Ok Jamie so who would YOU have as a manager it would have to be someone who made the right transfers.Had the right tactics and also agreed with everything that the referees got wrong instead of asking for explanations of poor decisions. Why not take the training yourself then you could apply?
ReplyDeleteU don't have to try and motivate the crap cos u can't. Just play somebody who' better instead. He bought them cos he thought they r good. We can all c they r not. Get rid of them. When u buy a car if it turns out b shit and keep having problems you won't keep it. You'll sell it and buy a new one. And pls KD is nowhere near as good as Paisley. The man won three European cups in nine years something that even Taggart didn't manage at MU in 25 yrs.
ReplyDelete- "get rid of them"
ReplyDeleteEver heard of the transfer window?
- "Just play someone better instead"
Better advice would be "just win all the games" - cut out all the other stuff.
I'm off to win the lottery :)
All the players that were part of the 87/88 team are legends!
ReplyDeleteSpackman took over when Whelan was injured and his forgotten about because of the impact of Aldridge,Barnes, Beardsley and Houghton.
Your all lost. He is a good man manager because i can honestly say liverpool have played poor in maximum five games this season. The rest have been very very unlucky. If the the post, then a ref decision. We have hit the post 30 times in one year. 30! abit more luck next year then we will be back to winning ways. If anything we need a more clinical striker in the summer. Kenny is doing a fine. And this myth of he is too old fashioned. I can be assured none of you lot were saying that last season when he came in and was winning and also at the start of the season. As soon as the team hit a bad patch you all turn against him. Fickle. Like shankly said 'If you can support us when we lose. Dont support us when we win' #YNWA
ReplyDeleteIs there a bigger fckwit online (or anywhere) than Jaimie Kanwar? He knows absolutely nothing about football, nothing. It's really embarrassing. This is what happens when 12-year-olds are given an opinion.
ReplyDeleteNo agendas? Suarez found guilty of racist comments with no proof, man u guy on the tribunal. Since then, we couldn't get a penalty if someone hit our players with an axe. Whereas Utd always benefit from dodgy reffing decisions. Are you blind, deaf or just plain dumb?
ReplyDeleteApparently god's not all that busy these days :)
ReplyDeleteNothing to see here people, move along.
ReplyDeleteWe'll actually have more money from trimming the wage bill and kit deals, sponsorships etc
ReplyDeleteSorry - I forgot those things don't count.
I meant to say : Magic fairy will shower more money on us this summer I think.
We'll actually have more money from trimming the wage bill and kit deals, sponsorships etc
ReplyDeleteSorry - I forgot those things don't count.
I meant to say : Magic fairy will shower more money on us this summer I think.
we had plenty of penalties for us, and guess what we missed nearly all of them, so what difference does it make?
ReplyDeleteAVB? Brought in then dumped should have been given more time! Especially with Di Matteo carrying on with the same principles of getting Chelsea playing attractive football! Difference is Luiz has suddenly turned into a defender again and Torres is slowly waking up!
ReplyDeletebeing out of touch of with changes in football coaching might be a good fault, besides avb is at the start of the career and won something in the last two years. Kenny left an ambassador role and became a manager after many years of not working at all, with his last clubs massively underachieving
ReplyDeleteMy point exactly.
ReplyDeleteregardless of that quote the statistics show we lose. plus a more clinical striker is not enough if nearly nobody cannot pass properly in the last third, or open up defences especially having a team that plays in a very predictable way, no wonder nearly every team stopped us from scoring. what games were you watching, definitely not liverpool,
ReplyDelete4-2-3-1 ... Gerrard on the right ... sounds like a Rafa plan...
ReplyDeleteEvidence of being out of touch? Not from any source in a position to know. If there is I'd like to see it. Problem is that anyone in a position to know - i.e. people in the game keeps going on about how much he is touch with the game.
ReplyDeleteAmbassador role - he was actually helping Rafa retool the academy as well as acting as an ambassador.
Newcastle - I think they made the mistake of not giving him time post Keegan and they ended up 13th. Ferguson managed 13th too but in his 4th season at Utd . The previous season he managed 11th.
Kenny needs to start using some of the older reserve players they can play how he wants, watched the reserves against Villa and they all knew what they were doing playing a forward expansive passing game great to watch.
ReplyDeleteThe same Gerrard who under Rafa got Player of The Year and Champions League MVP. Oh and on the right he scored 20 odd goals, before putting off Torres to devastating effect. You could play Stevie anywhere and he would be World Class and it was Rafa that helped him the most become that player.
ReplyDeleteRAWK subscribing rose tinter - its Liverpool FC not Kenny Dalglish FC !
ReplyDeleteI am sorry if I am being blasphemous here but the clubs future is far more important than kenny dalglish's past .
and will people please stop calling him 'king kenny' - we are not like NUFC fans , LFC doesnt need a messiah figure and we are to big a club for such small time idolatry.
Should have kept him on the right! Would have sorted out one wing for the last 6 years!
ReplyDeleteI do find it interesting that many feel Dalglish is out of touch and old-fashioned. No-one was saying this when he rescued Liverpool from the clutches of relegation last season, or when Liverpool were dominating teams in the first half of this season. He must have been doing something right during these periods. A new manager is not yet necessary, but wise player investment in the summer is paramount. Rotating managers has not worked for Manchester City or Chelsea.
ReplyDeletewat a load of rubbish, kenny needed to be ruthless about 4-5 months ago, total sh#te from spackman. man manager?? really, hes made henderson a worse player than he ever has been and destroyed the boys confidence, constantly played out of position and could you say hes enjoyed playing there. carroll played , slowely got better then dropped again. you could go on. totally clueless manager im sad to say.
ReplyDeleteex players like spackman make us even more of a laughing stock, just deluded comment
Hmm, KK won't walk away eh, regardless
ReplyDeleteOne thing I can't stand is his constant backing and use of Downing and coming out with waffle like '
ReplyDeletehe’s better than I thought he was going to be'.
He is in his late 20s and sooner or later, you need to stop giving him bloody cuddles.
bugger off to RAWK love
ReplyDeleteconstant use of bad luck/unlucky is an excuse used by the weak
ReplyDeleteKK broke up the Ferdinand-Shearer partnership, which was plain stupid and downhill from there.
ReplyDeleteI hear what your saying but I wouldn't be so sure of using UEFA as some sort of benchmark. One dodgy assocation, along with FIFA. From bribes to Platini's 'ideas'.
ReplyDeletebugger off to RAWK then
ReplyDeleteno, he just isn't paranoid
ReplyDeleteWell there is a lot to criticise these days, when the club is struggling to finish in the top half of the table these days
ReplyDeleteNormal anti kk rubbish . No tactis . He's win the prem the first division the FA cup . Carling cup and this year carling Cup and in semi FA cup . Your right someone like Garry rednapp is better he's won a FA cup and made the team bankrupt in the process . What's wengar won lately. Your all just sheep and have become Chelsea supporters no loyalty at all
ReplyDeleteGet rid of them.
ReplyDeleteSo what do u suggest to keep them even tho they're crap.
Transfer window.
I'm not 100% but I think there was a transfer window in Jan. KD had the whole month to buy a proper striker.
Just win all the games"
No team in the world wins all the games but they win most of them. Just look at the PL table mate. We lost and drew as many as we won. We r some 13 points behind Newcastle who two years ago were in championship. We r 36 points behind MU who r going to win their 20 title.
SO U MY FRIEND KEEP HOPING THAT THIS IS TRANSITION PERIOD AND THINGS WILL GET BETTER. COS THEY WON'T IF HE KEEPS BUYIN THE SAME CRAP AS HE DID SO FAR.
KK sent a wish list to Comolli. Comolli did the negotiations and spent the money on over priced mediocre players.
ReplyDeleteGet rid of the scout Comolli who brought in the mediocre players!
ReplyDeleteEven if KK is gone, guess who is the one who will bring in the new players? The same guy who negotiated and overpaid for Carroll .. Comolli. This Comolli is the source of over spending and mediocre signings, not KK. Burdened with mediocre and expensive players, the pressure sat on KK's shoulders alone.
ReplyDeleteAnd the biggest sugar-daddy club of them all appears to have blown the League today. Wonder if their websites are full of hysterical brats, or whether they have simply enjoyed watching some great football and living the dream for a change?
ReplyDeleteSo you keep saying. Constantly.
ReplyDeleteLooking at how young managers/coaches are trying to play football now a days I reckon the coaching coursers are about the only thing UEFA have got right!
ReplyDeleteNone of the managers who have been mentored by Kenny have come out and said he didn't know what he was talking about shows that Kenny hasn't been that far away from football over the last few years.
The way i see it is that we still have 6 more league fixtures and a semi to play, Kenny should be judged at the end of this season.....but that doesn't mean he should not be criticised like any manager would......
ReplyDeleteOur league position tells a story of its own, regardless of how we sugar coat it atm it is not acceptable that we have not managed to maintain any momentum in the league.....we have been flip flopping all season...this draw against Villa is being hailed as some kind of turnaround, but is it?
Have we not seen this type of positive play before only to be followed by some utter dross....
Therefore the post mortem is underway and perhaps a little earlier than some would like...nonetheless questions will be asked, much debate has taken place....some people are blaming Kenny and his shit brits.....others are just blaming the shit brits......but not many are blaming the foreign factor.......i.e. Reina, Suarez, Enrique, Kuyt......etc.
I cannot say how bored i am with this debate tbh, clearly Kenny's tenure this season has been unsettled, to say the least.....
Do we have a happy squad all trying their best week in week out???
No, we don't.
Did we have a happy squad all trying their best week in week under Roy???
Nope.
Rafa??
Definitely not....
So........thats the problem, thats what needs to be fixed, i think the realisation that our problems are not going to be resolved if we clear out Kenny and the shit brits...is beginning to dawn in many fan's minds.
Getting rid of Carra is also not such a necesity as is being claimed....
What we need is for those players who are not happy......to be fcuk off this summer, meanwhile we can replace them....whoever they are......with decent quality players who really want to play for us.....
I object to the term "shit brits" and i don't like the fact that they have been scapegoated when other players who are not brits....have been letting us down this season big time....with their very inconsistent form.....and creating all kinds of negative press for the Club with other antics.....
The Club needs strong leadership, FSG have a major challenge facing them this summer, how they deal with our "problems" will determine how we fare next season.....they will im sure be well aware that the fans will probably represent their biggest obstacle to changing the Club for the better.
The failure to bring in a striker in January is Kenny major failing this season! The team and the summer signings were in striking distance of fourth but we lacked a goal scorer, a loan signing or Jelavic would have been a wise move.
ReplyDeleteWhat rubbish Jamie, Nothing in Liverpools games this season suggests theres no motivation, they have dominated most of their games and players get digged in and play hard. Villa game is a good example. Ofcourse confidence is low and this is to be expected with the way results are going. Yes the likes of Carrol, Adam, Hendo at the moment dont seem good enough for the club, like Lucas and Kuyt were when they got too Liverpool. The curent results have nothing to do with with Kenny's man managment. The results are based on how good his players(Not Good)are and his tactics(Poor). This on its own is a different topic
ReplyDeleteWell it wouldn't be very PC (politically correct), professional or courteous to say bad things about a mentor in public.
ReplyDeleteBecause something isn't said or done, doesn't mean it isn't possible.
Even if they all had nothing to give in terms of constructive criticism of KK, doesn't mean its a conclusive way of defining that KK isn't out of touch to a certain extent or has some serious flaws.
In relation to manager playing styles of their respective teams, I don't think that is down to UEFA courses. That is down to, ultimately, the individual themselves.
Jose Mourinho is hardly a shining example of the ideal playing style, yet he has done UEFA courses.
Brendan Rodgers was under Mourinho but his football is nothing like Jose's. Rodgers is far more of a Barca desciple, than he is a UEFA/Chelsea/Mourinho-disciple. The guy has been going regularly to Barca set up for the past 7 years, working with and learning from them over there. That has got very little to do with UEFA, that has a lot to do with the Barca ethos, which is also the same ethos which is the backbone for Guardiola's playing style, not UEFA courses.
UEFA courses are a 'vehicle' of a place to learn things. But there is more than one way to skin a cat. Many a manager/coach do things without the aid of UEFA courses to learn.
kenny has a lot of credit in the bank for me, but if he doesnt bring the FA Cup home then i reckon we should give rafa the reigns again. I still think if kenny gets the cup he deserves a second season and i think the launchpad will be there for next season.
ReplyDeleteYep, when people use bad luck/unlucky as a excuse. Sorry, if that irks you.
ReplyDeletethe king has made some questionable man management decisions:-
ReplyDeletecaroll; bellers, maxi; shelvey; to name a few. on the other hand the lads havent always taken their chances.
Apology accepted.
ReplyDeleteJ75j. I did say that he did buy the Players cos he thought they were good. Fine. He also saw it like the rest of us that we were struggling to score goals and something needed to b done. Maybe he did ask for the money to buy a striker and they didn't give it to him. We don't know. But if that's the case than maybe he should come out and tell the fans. So we know. After all he did say that the most important people are the fans.
ReplyDeleteDon't waste your time dreaming up someone to replace Kenny. He will be in charge next season. This is Liverpool, not Chelsea. Stand by yer man!
ReplyDeleteIf its him who bought them FSG need to get rid of him ASAP. Do u honestly believe that KD didn't want them too.
ReplyDeleteJust lifted this out of the Independent. Not sure if I breached a copyright law, but, frankly, I'm too tired to do my own research:
ReplyDeleteLiverpool have been unlucky a lot this season. They had struck the frame of the goal 23 times before Saturday's encounter with Aston Villa at Anfield and did so another four times during a tormented afternoon. They have been awarded fewer penalties than Wigan and half as many as Manchester United. And they have missed most of those they have been given.
Of the last 10 shots aimed at Liverpool's goal, eight have gone in. Nearly half the goalscoring opportunities Liverpool have given their opponents have finished with the ball in their net. You could call it unlucky or you might think Liverpool have a back four that requires a serious overhaul – it is the one area of the squad Dalglish has barely touched.
Liverpool, in contrast, have not converted even a third of their chances.
He is what Liverpool stands for! saying he is not a good manager is rubbish! He has a record.... go and look it at...HALLOOOOO! If anybody should be given time then its Kenny you fucking idiots. Go and support another club if you don't support Kenny....
ReplyDeleteOh no, we are so unlucky, nothing to do with us being mediocre(!) Yawn.
ReplyDelete"The time to be ruthless was 4 months ago" . . . Says who?
ReplyDeleteIt is the impatience of so called fans that is the major problem. So a few months into a new season with lots of new players is the best time to start benching players or replacing them in the transfer window?
Absolute nonsense Jaimie, any new manager needs time and Kenny is no different, I doubt any other manager would have achieved a great deal more in such a short space of time. It's been a real difficult season with injuries and suspensions of key players and a loss of form and a failure to hit the ground running with others.
I and the majority of real fans are prepared to give Kenny time to turn things around, you and the rest of the negative know it alls need to chill out and accept that all good things come to those who are patient.
Mourinho did exactly that in his reign at Chelsea, in his very first season.
ReplyDeleteSo his predecessor had nothing to do with it? I'd beg to differ - he handed him some good foundations.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, Ferguson didn't though. 11th, 2nd, 11th, 13th and 6th in his first five seasons. From 3rd and 4th the previous 5.
Trumps your Mourinho I'd say :)Perhaps we can sign a Russian Billionaire in the next transfer window.
At the end of January we were 4 points behind Chelsea in 4th.
ReplyDeletePerfectly reasonable to think we could catch it up.
Perfectly reasonable to think one of the strikers would start to deliver some of what they were promising in training.
In any case it's not always all that easy to find the right people available in the January transfer window.
In retrospect I wish they'd signed a striker too. But at the time it wasn't the most irrational move not to.
Good.
ReplyDeleteWe don't know though do we. He got pushed out one season into rebuilding. It takes more than a year. As I recall Shearer was the backbone of the team for a while after that.
ReplyDeleteOh and what does Shearer have to say about Kenny?? "Excellent Manager", "Right man for the job" etc
Hmmm can't rely on that I suppose. Perhaps I could find someone who's never even been in the same room as Kenny and ask them.
Kenny is now the worst manager in the EPL and if you add the midfield of Spearing,Henderson ,Shelvey,Adam and Downing plus Carragher in defence you'll have the worst Liverpool lineup in recent times.Honestly, even Swansea has more bite.
ReplyDeleteIts the fans that need a wake up call. Its been seven years guys, seven years since we won anything. This isn't Kenny fault. We have been RUBBISH for years an suddenly all those fans born since 1989 , secretly wishing they supported united, sit here going Kenny out, he isn't the right guy, but they don't know who is, in fact if you asked them they would say mourhino or some other manager who would never touch us. You're manager is Kenny. He will be here next an hopefully another five years, an you will just need to swallow it down an shut you're moaning an whining .
ReplyDeleteClicking into gear by February 6th? You cannot be serious. Let's look at the actual league results in the preceding 5 weeks.
ReplyDelete3-0 loss to Man City
0-0 draw with Stoke
3-1 loss to Bolton
3-0 win over Wolves
0-0 draw with Spurs
Hardly the signs of a team "clicking into gear". If you'd watched any of those games (trust me, I did - much to my regret), you'd have seen that all the team's performances in those were dire. They weren't gallant defeats or draws. The bounce over bottom dwellers, Wolves, after Kenny's rocket, proved ony a minor blip.
You cannot use Chelsea going through a bad phase at the same time - thereby keeping us within a shout - as evidence to say that it wasn't unreasonable to say we couldn't make up the gap.
The performances in those games showed more clearly than anything else that we didn't have either the players or coaching to achieve CL placings.
I'm not sure what you mean by "No manager can move players on or bring players in before the transfer window opens". No one was asking the manager to do that. They were asking the manager to bring in a striker/goalscorer DURING the transfer window in January.
Valid point made.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm not convinced that hitting the woodwork 23 times so far this season and not getting the goal as a result can really be put down to purely bad luck.
There are 24 feet between each upright and 8 feet up to the crossbar. There is quite a lot of space in between those to hit the ball.
Long live king kenny, all the fans are right and wrong. But give him and his players 1 more season to gel, with the addition of 3-4 world class players in the summer. I think next season we could go for the title....
ReplyDeletehendo,
downing
carroll to stay
adam to go,
Suarez was guilty of using racist language... get over it... and this is ecactly the mentality that we have resorted to making me believe we are firmly a mid table club - managers and players blaming everybody else for their shortcomings... small teams do that and when we have drawn or lost that is what we resort to... blaming officials. How times have changed in just a few years.
ReplyDeleteWell Paisley did say they shot the wrong Kennedy.
ReplyDeleteKD gave him a wish list of the types of players. Comolli comes back with the names of the players. How they differ, Comolli backs them up with his "statistics".
ReplyDeleteThe only thing King Kenny need to do is to change his tactic . Stop with the crossing game....
ReplyDeleteWRONG KENNY HAS FINAL SAY ON ALL PLAYER PURCHASES.>END OF
ReplyDeleteCome on guys..We have beaten the likes of Man Utd, Man City,Chelsea, Arsenal this season. Kenny has shown us his tactical skills. I just feel the players have let him down. We have created enough chances. some decisions havent gone our way too. He knows what hes doing. Keep the faith.
ReplyDeleteWAY TOO LATE...BEEN STATED BY COMOLLI THAT DALGLISH HAS FINAL SAY ON ALL PLAYER PURCHASES...THESE ARE KENNY'S BUYS
ReplyDeleteHOOVER YOU'VE BEEN TRYING SPIN THIS ALL DAY ...I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU DO SOME RESEARCH...FINAL SAY ON ALL PLAYER PURCHASES ARE DONE BY KENNETH DALGLISH..GIVE THIS SPIN DOCTORING A REST
ReplyDeleteTHE WHY COME HERE AND READ HIS ARTICLES ?
ReplyDeleteI agree he'll get sacked, the reason he wont walk is because thats what he did last time.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not but FFS some improvement would be nice, like finishing in the top 4 F me we spent over 100 mill that makes us the laughing stock in the PL and wants wrong with expecting improvement? i am glad that you have low expectations along with the rest of the KK fan base, I support LFC, I love LFC, i may not live in Liverpool but i support my club with purchases over the net and i am up in the early hours of the morning watching win or loose. So if i expect a little more than forgive me.
ReplyDeleteHey original what are you JK mother or dad you are very quick to defend him.
ReplyDeleteBang on! Worst midfield ever, even with Lucas! You're right about Carra too.
ReplyDeleteI know that. I was just hoping that if I kept using the 'unlucky' angle, OriginalChan may spontaneously combust.
ReplyDeleteYou do get the feeling that every mistake we make we get punished for, though, whilst we need to create about 10-15 chances to get a goal. I thought it was interesting how the Independent mentioned our back-4, the one area of the team that most of us felt was sorted, though. We've certainly struggled since Carra came back, and whatever you think of him defensively, we miss the outlet of Glen Johnson going forward, as we can't rely on Kelly's hamstrings/shin splints/growth spurts at the minute.
If ever there was a case for keeping the faith, you only have to look at Neil Lennon at Celtic. He was under immense pressure, could have walked, but stuck at it. True, they had their season-defining moment coming back from 3-0 down at Kilmarnock, which Liverpool haven't had (Saturday, Wembley, anyone?), and the quality in Scotland is not the same, but Lennon and the fans stuck at it, and got their rewards.
ReplyDeleteWhat would be the point of getting rid of a Manager with 6 (hopefully 8) games to go?
Wot about that penalty Manure got yesterday? Young clearly dived and got defender red carded. Disgrace! bet Fa will say F.A about that.
ReplyDelete.....And tell the world you love him
ReplyDeleteKeep giving all the love you can.Stand by your man....
I agree, we did'nt even have to buy a striker, could have got one on loan 'till end of season. A few more goals would have increasd moral. Just look at Everton for eg.
ReplyDeleteKenny must know he's blown it, and our transfer fund for next year. FSG would be crazy to give him any more cash to waste. We'll end up like an Aston Villa type of club, stay up and get ready for your holiday in feb.
ReplyDeleteChi Bai lu, Kenny was a great coach in those days but not now! Me, Ashfah alias Kyashafah agree with Nigel. Any others are just Puki Mak.
ReplyDeleteI'm not trying to sound overly negative here but, my personal opinion is that our early season defensive "strengths" were a little over-hyped.
ReplyDeleteI have watched almost every game we've played this season (glutton for punishment, I know) and I believe that one of the main reasons we didn't concede many goals early on was that teams paid us too much respect back then. I watched game afer game where teams played us with the seeming intent of just taking a point. They never came to win. This was eapecially true of the big boys like both the Manchesters - but also true of teams like QPR and Swansea.
They just sat back and tried to nullify our attack - which, at least till early December, seemed pretty threatening, albeit without scoring too many goals.
I think when teams actually played to win (like Spurs in Round 5 and City early in the New Year), they tore us apart.
Since the New Year, even the "small" teams come to Anfield with renewed confidence that they can win - because they have come to realise the fragility of our defence. They also know that we are unlikely to score against them.
I've also not seen a season where Reina has let in so many soft goals.
Ah well. I've been waiting 22 years for another title. What's another 4 or 5, eh?
:-)
Our main problem this season is poor finishing ...
ReplyDeleteJaimie, as usual, you're cherry picking and taking things out of context.
And by the way, 100% of managers do give their players time to settle. If we managed your way, Lucas would have been offloaded, Drogba at Chelsea and a host of others who have got past their poor first season to go on to be worldbeaters.
What rubbish! This article is nothing more than a thinly veiled attack of Dalglish by dissecting a quote that actually supports him.
ReplyDeleteIt was always going to be a difficult season and it became even harder when we lost Lucas and with him all balance to the side.
Supporters should try supporting their team instead of crying because they lost a game or didn't make the Champions League.
imagine kenny & rafa & steve clarke working together kenny for his man management rafa with his tactical nous and clarky for his coaching ,now that would be like the old bootroom .shankly paisley fagan etc.
ReplyDeleteWe have already spent £60m+ on a pair of strikers since KK came in. So maybe FSG are justified in being reluctant, if they are.
ReplyDeleteThat is his informed opinion. Just like Asprilla. Stalemate.
ReplyDeleteAsprilla is on record saying how Dalglish ruined what Keegan built. And in my opinion, he is right. KK destroyed that team and bought in quite a lot of cack. He messed up Ginola, Ferdinand and Beardo (he was brilliant in his last season), who were key players. He ripped that Entertainers side of Keegan's apart. Roughly 50 goals in two seasons, Les Ferdinand scored, 50 goals. He sold Sir Les during the time Shearer was out injured with a long term injury. Another baffling factor. Keegan left Dalglish with two of the best providers in the league and the best strike partnership in the league at the time, yet KK sold the providers and broke up the strike partnership.
Defend KK all you like but the things he did during that time at Newcastle weren't great and hence, why majority of Newcastle fans don't like his reign as he ruined The Entertainers side Keegan built.
Drogba did fairly well in his first season I thought
ReplyDeleteWRONG! Comolli has final say.
ReplyDeleteWrong again. Comolli had the final say. That is in his job description. What do you expect KD to say when he is presented with a list of mediocre players? Say no to all of them? Geez.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised you're yawning at 02:22. Get some sleep, Original.
ReplyDeletefirstly, managing and coaching are totally different roles.the coach prepares the team to the managers criteria and the manager manages the team on match days.to say kk is out of touch is a stupid argument as ive said b4,football hasnt changed, its the fitness, diets etc etc have.bad luck/good luck...well in fairness, when it rains it pours,30+ times hitting the posts, missing key penos etc, etc.fans go on too much about tactics,do u think shanks and bob worried about them...my arse, they let the opposition worry about us!!!!football is the simplest game to play, its when u bring in tactics in that it gets complicated.farting about with 442/433/451,christ,its not algebra.retaining possession, passing to the nearest man in red, keeping it simple, those are the tactics that work.doesnt take a genius does it?
ReplyDelete"Spots details that other people miss"? Does the author of this quote really believe this? Seems to me a random phrase for filling an interview.
ReplyDeleteDetails and thorough analysis is exactly the thing Dalglish lacks, and this is evident during and after every match - players failing to perform and Dalglish saying "you cannot question their commitment or quality, we just couldn't score" - is this called attention to details and thoroughness?
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/kenny-dalglish-has-final-say-on-transfers-says-damien-comolli-2181002.html THAT'S FOR YOU HOOVER NOW GIVE IT A REST
ReplyDeleteYes, of course. He is the manager and still ultimately responsible. If he thinks the players recommended are always not good enough, he tells the owners and they look for a new scout. Better than sanctioning 20 million purchases of players you do not want.
ReplyDeleteYou should ask yourself that question if you really think that is why we've shot down the league.
ReplyDeleteSadly, these facts seem to be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteAll we have needed this season is a goal scorer, those 27 times hitting the woodwork might have gone in, for example, along with the missed penalties too. Would have been a different story altogether.
Not sure why people come on and tout this nonsense without any proof whatsoever. Dalglish is responsible until someone comes out and says otherwise.
ReplyDeleteHilarious riposte(!)
ReplyDeleteIn that case, a lot of managers should never move from their posts. UEFA pro licence is theory, managing a club is, i would have thought, practical.
ReplyDeleteYes, not to mention that Shearer is going to say that, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteThe way he wrecked Newcastle was sad to see. Probably everyone's 2nd favourite club until Kenny took over. He's done a reasonable job of making us more unpopular also. How can a player like that have such a poor eye for flair players?
"Ruthless Dalglish is 'NOT' a great coach." Neither is Alex Ferguson, who leaves all the coaching to his no.2/assistants. Neither was Brian Clough, who used to do the same. So what's the point of the headline again?
ReplyDeleteDifferent era, the two situations, between Ferguson and now, are not comparable. You know that, don't you? No? Since when has a team come 11th in the league table and finished in the top 4 of the next season? Nowadays, if you are 8th or 9th, you are unlikely to be finishing much higher in the following season. Possibly Everton and Newcastle are the only teams who have managed that kind of leap in recent seasons? And Man City, for obvious reasons.
ReplyDeleteSo, if we could expect to make a decent fist of bridging the gap, what incredible management caused the gap to widen greatly. How is this progress?
ReplyDeleteDe Gea always had better credentials than Charlie Adam, that's what you are forgetting. Same as Ferguson had better credentials than a manager who had been out of management for over 10 years.
shows how many people want to cling to the same excuses. 'Deserved' is a word managers brought in to cover up their own poor management. People like Alex Mcleish use the word a lot. The more KD starts using it, the more I suspect he had fcuked the team.
ReplyDeleteHad it been during Hodgson's reign, the writer of the article would have had all manner of accusations levelled against him.
ReplyDeleteWhat teams do in both final thirds of the pitch is what decides who wins and who loses, and we've shown that where certain teams have match winners and reliable performers who will pull out a result, we have injury prone, mentally weak 'can't do' players, in the main, who will be unlucky for most of their careers.
Wise player investment? Does anyone think that is what the current management will provide?
ReplyDeleteNot worked for Man City or Chelsea? How's that? Man City have the best team they have ever had, they are still, at least, improving. The only thing that didn't work for Chelsea was removing Mourinho. Not sure that taking on Hiddink or Ancelotti was a failure.
That's where the failure has been and don't see how he will fix this. Adam, Downing and Henderson is where it has all gone wrong. I think if they had done what they were bought to do, the team would have scored more goals and the LFC career of Carroll might not have been an outstanding success but may have matched his Newcastle performances.
ReplyDeleteNeil Lennon? He's been useless at Celtic. Were the league more competitive, he would have been out already. He's handed Rangers the title in the past and could have done so again without the 10 point deduction.
ReplyDeleteHe's made Celtic a worse team in his time as manager and should be celebrating at least his 2nd title, maybe third, by now. He managed to lose a cup final against a team that are at least two levels beneath them a couple of weeks ago and their performances in Europe have been the worst they have been for years.
Difference between the players you mentioned and the EPL dross that we bought?
ReplyDeleteYes, and 'You are bang out of order for saying that he did not shake his hand!!!'
ReplyDeleteWrong Kenny!
Mourinho learnt from Bobby Robson who was also a mentor on the UEFA Pro Licence courses .Mourinho has changed his style of coaching with Real this season more attacked minded passing game.
ReplyDeleteYou need UEFA Pro Licence now to manage/coach a top level football team so your own initiative is backed up with a proper understanding on how to run and manage a football team.
To manage top level club you need to have the UEFA Pro Licence.
ReplyDeleteAsprilla the Baloteli of the
ReplyDelete90s!
I know that, but what i am saying is that if the licence, or giving talks for UEFA, is proof that someone is up to the job, it would make any manager who had done it immune to being moved on.
ReplyDeleteNot one for sacking managers so quick, yes it has been a bad season in the league. The failure of our front 4 is laughable not one of them can can score consistently they have all had enough clear cut chances to have double figures.
ReplyDeleteHe lost the League by 1 point last season, I would hardly call that "useless" especially when you consider outside factors that he had to contend with - he had 'protection' for much of the season after receiving bullets in the post, and a "fan" actually attacked him at Tynecastle. A blatant pen (mysteriously) not given at Inverness in the penultimate game cost them. This season, Celtic have pissed it, overturning a 17 point deficit, so, again, I wouldn't call that "useless".
ReplyDeleteHave you never seen an underdog win a Cup Final, then, Gab?There is no money in Scottish football. Clubs down here get more money from the TV deal than Celtic will get for WINNING their league, so they are always going to struggle in Europe.
THAT'S what's annoyed you the most isn't it Gab? Not the results, the performances or our disappointing League form. It all boils down to a vexatious complaint and a non-fucking-handshake.
ReplyDeleteI think 143 comments is the point.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know what Clarke and Keen are doing. How can 2 supposedly competent coaches be silent while this debacle continues? If Kenny is supposed to take the brunt then they must volunteer to share the load. All 3 cannot be blind to the deficiencies in our squad, yet there has been no rectification or admittance they have got something wrong!
ReplyDeletePersonally speaking, i think we've played reasonably well, baring the results. the only thing lacking is end product....will take a 3-0 victory against Blackburn tonight and a hard fought victory against Everton to bring us some sunshine. Fans expecting miracles straight away are deluded, if they want to support a team that changes manager every 8 months, start supporting Chelsea, who are no closer to titles with alot of dead wood, some who laughably believe they're the real managers. Plus points are we're playing good football, with a few players leaving in the summer with more quality down the flanks and another prized striker we'll be in with a shout for european football next year. Lets not forget how ferguson started his reign at Man United...if the board had listened to impatient tantrum laden fans they most certainly wouldn't have won so many titles and cups.
ReplyDeleteNever called for KD to be sacked. Hopefully, we will have a strong end to the season and there will be grounds for more optimism next year. Starting with Everton!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, he had awful stuff going on, but Celtic blew that title and should have won it. They had the best players, by far, and, this season, they should never have been so far behind to an average Rangers team, with a new manager, in the first place.
ReplyDeleteTheir performances in Europe have been worse than under their previous two managers. They also have a great chance of getting at least half of the best youngsters in scotland. They should be on a par with Athletic Bilbao at least.
Underdogs win cup finals all the time, but Celtic's 6-0 win at Kilmarnock to win the title shows how poor an effort that was in the League Cup against a team that would probably be two divisions below them if the sides played in England.
It's the lack of attention to detail that does it for me!
ReplyDeleteWest Ham coaches and we are getting West Ham results.
ReplyDeleteAthletic Bilbao play in a stronger League, and have technically better players. And a lot of the better Scots youngsters get mysteriously enticed to English clubs. Always have. Always will.
ReplyDeleteHe want from 2nd to 13th. That is not rebuilding it's a catastrophic failure.
ReplyDeleteFerguson went from 2nd to 11th to 13th.
ReplyDeleteEither that was rebuilding - or he should have been sacked.
