Last week, the Agent of Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko declared that there was 'every chance' that the France International would leave for England in the summer. With Liverpool in the market for a powerful central midfielder, this was potentially good news for the club. A week later, it's suddenly all change though, and it now transpires that Sissoko has his heart set on a move to Serie A.
In July 2011, the €30m-rated box-to-box midfielder revealed that he was flattered to be linked with Liverpool, and claimed his style was suited to the Premier League:
"To have my name associated with these clubs [Liverpool and Man United] is very flattering, and I think my profile would correspond more to the English style of play"
Last week, Sissoko's representative Bakary Sanogo told calciomercato:
"He [Sissoko] is wanted in Spain, England and Germany and we have received interesting offers. There is every chance he will leave this summer because his contract will expire in 2013".
This week, Sanogo insisted that Sissoko wants to join Roma:
"Moussa [Sissoko] wants Roma. Our intention is to move to Italy, and even better to the capital. How much will it cost? I am unable to say, these are estimates that pertain to the two clubs. I just want to say that Moussa wants Italy and Roma".
Given the transient nature of Agent statements (!), I doubt this statement of intent is absolute, which is good news because Liverpool arguably need a top quality, strong, athletic central midfielder, and Sissoko seemed to fit the bill.
* At the age of 22, Sissoko fits Liverpool's transfer policy.
* He plays for a club that's not in the Champions League, which should make him a more realistic target.
* Liverpool lack real strength and athleticism in midfield.
* Lucas will need time to bed into the team again, and another season with the likes of Spearing, Henderson and Adam as back-up doesn't sound appealing.

We're probably out of the frame for him. Likelier to do a deal like Adam + 10/15 million for Victor Moses and Mohamed Diame from Wigan, if they're relegated, that is.
ReplyDeleteseems like his agent is going to try hawk him to the highest bidder similar to what eden hazzard's agent is doing.he'd be a good signing for us,a very powerful player.
ReplyDeleteDiame and Moses wouldn't be bad signings at all. Diame is much better alternative to have than Spearing, and Moses is also a quality player but he lacks the end product though.
ReplyDeleteI don't know where the huge price tag comes from , from what I have seen he is more in the range on 10 to 15m ?
ReplyDeleteBesides for that, there were very string rumors Lfc were very interested in Balise Matudi , Sissoko and Marvin Martin but nothing happened ?
From what was leaked from the agents and clubs we were not willing to match buy out clauses ? Stange when u consider Marvin's is around 6m , Matudi was 8M and Sissoko was reported around 15m
agree about moses, plenty of pace but not alot of end product and one of wigans prize assets so he wouldn't be cheap.
ReplyDeleteThis is the same player Rafa was scouting in his final season.
ReplyDeleteI'm not pro or anti Rafa but no one can doubt that he had an extensive scouting network.
kenny has made a real mess
ReplyDeleteEverton will put us all out of our misery this Saturday
ReplyDeleteChi Bai lu, we never lose to Everton in the Fa Cup advanced stage ties in the last 50 years. It would be my Puki Mak for grabs if Everton beat us in the semis. Good Bye for Dalgkish.
ReplyDeleteThe players (or their agents, to be precise) are whoring themselves around, listing the best clubs in Europe that are "interested". Like Eden Hazard... he's been 'linked' to every club in the top 4 in every league.
ReplyDeleteIt is kinda obvious that they throw some words around like "yeah, linking to Liverpool is very flattering" and our hearts melt... we naively think - OHHHH!!! He likes Liverpool, he wants to play for us! Let's sign him!
No, boys and girls. He doesn't. He wants to play for someone who offers the best wages and ideally, CL. Liverpool has a policy to reduce the wages. Low age, low wage. We are becoming a sad version of Arsenal.
We need a predatory finisher and right winger, not a centre mid
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely better than Comolli's. Comolli's an over rated scout who is pretty good at telling the owners what they like to hear.
ReplyDeleteCheery soul, aren't you?
ReplyDeleteAm not too sure judging from this video clip if this man is the player we need - am not convinced!
ReplyDeleteLiverpool indeed need wingers and a clinical striker and the players they bring in need to be world class no middle of the road types like the club have now.
