Agent admits: £30m Liverpool striker target may leave Italy. Good news for LFC...?

Last month, South America football expert Jose Alberti made the bold claim that Napoli's Argentina striker Ezequiel Lavezzi would be a Liverpool player next season. Lavezzi has recently claimed that he is happy in Italy, but this week, his Agent has warned that he could leave if the club does not make it into next season's Champions League.

Speaking to Radio CalcioMercato in February, Alberti claimed that Lavezzi 'will definitely leave Naples at the end of the season' and that he would 'move to England and sign for Liverpool".

A few days after that, Lavezzi told Sky Sports Italia that he would 'be at Napoli next season' and confirmed that there had 'not been any offers from other clubs".

Yesterday, Lavezzi's Agent, Alejandro Mazzoni, seemed to suggest that the Argentine would consider his future if Napoli missed out on the Champions League. He told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli:

"Lavezzi may still remain at Napoli but it is important, however, that the club play in the Champions League next season, so that malcontents do not arise"

Liverpool's interest in Lavezzi is well established. In 2009, former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez tried to sign him as a striker partner for Fernando Torres, and this was confirmed by Mazzoni in an interview with The Telegraph.

According to TalkSport, Lavezzi has a £30m release clause in his contract, but since Champions League football seems to be a pre-requisite for the striker, a move to Liverpool seems unlikely.

Anything can happen though, and as we all know, in the world of football, money talks. Kenny Dalglish was at Stamford Bridge a couple of weeks ago for a Chelsea-Napoli CL game, and since Liverpool are not playing either of those teams in the near future, it's conceivable that he was there to run the rule of Lavezzi, and his strike partner Edinson Cavani.

Napoli are currently 4th in Serie A, three points off the third Champions League place.

  1. You know what will happen if KD buys one or both of them: play them out of position or bench them for the next game if they score.

  2. If we are looking at Serie A, surely Fiorentina is worth a look as they are doing poorly but got some talent in that side in Vargas and Jovetic (both of them ripped apart Bayern's right wing a few seasons ago in CL). Don't know how long Fiorentina can keep their best players at the club after another season of failure.

  3. If i were the owner of Liverpool i will not give Kenny a Dem money to get a player cos the ones he bought are all use less most especially Henderson is just a flop. Kenny should learn how to use this players very well. Sometimes he uses rough formation wish is affecting the whole team now.

  6. Move heaven and earth to bring Hoillet in and get Sterling ready to play next season. Try to reinvent Johnson as a right midfielder. Considering they have til August to do these three things, there's no reason why they can't get cracking now and hopefully have all three in place by August. Selling any of the flops, apart from Adam, will be a waste of time. The loss the club will take, they might as well be used as squad players and then we can hope that, somehow, they might come good in the meantime. Better off looking at another defensive midfielder to compete with Lucas, and play alongside him in certain games, and a striker who can put the ball in the net. Still think we should take a punt on Rhodes, good in the air, young, good scoring record, will get international experience with Scotland, could still be anything. Worth the chance at the price. Who else in the country is scoring like him? If you look at his record, he has been scoring at a decent rate for years and still averages better than a goal every two games.

  7. So let me get this right. Lavezzi will leave Napoli if they don't get champions league only to join us even though were no where near champions league ourselves . Yeah right. What a load of crap

  8. Even if Lavezzi remarkably wanted to come to Liverpool he is not the greatest of finishers and does not have a great goal scoring record.
The club need a great finisher not another one here one there striker who looks great but doesnt fish the job get Soldado or someone who can.

  9.  Torres wasn't a great finisher before he came to Anfield and look at how well he did.

  10. FC Sevilla are doing really bad this season. We should bid on Negredo & Perotti, not many top clubs seem to be on them right now. And they are pure quality
