Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool team is breaking records all over the place this season. The team recently lost three league games in a row for the first time in 10 years; the defeat against QPR marked the first time in 11 and a half years that Liverpool had lost after leading by two goals (4-3 defeat to Leeds United); but today's result is perhaps the most embarrassing (negative) landmark of them all.
Kenny Dalglish's 'team' have now become the first Liverpool side in history to lose to Wigan at Anfield. Granted, the first time the clubs ever played a competitive game was only 23 years ago in 1989, but it's the kind of unbeaten record that you'd expect Liverpool to maintain, especially this season, with Wigan struggling in the relegation zone.
Here is another depressing statistic for you - In 2012, relegation-threatened Wigan have MORE league points than Liverpool:
* WIGAN: 10 points 11 league games in 2012
* LIVERPOOL: 8 points from 11 league games in 2012
And fans think it was bad under Roy Hodgson?! Liverpool may have been (briefly) near the relegation zone under Hodgson, but under Dalglish, the club has displayed genuine relegation form.
After celebrating Liverpool's mediocrity earlier in the week, Dalglish blamed today's performance on tiredness. He told LFC TV:
"If you play Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday it's going to take its toll. A lot of the lads had played all three games, and for us that's a reason behind our performance. It's because of the demand on them with games, and we've not had enough players at our disposal to give them adequate rest.
"It's a problem we face and it's dictated to the clubs and the players by the television schedule. The fact we've done well in two cup competitions has obviously given us lots of extra fixtures".
This is the latest a long line of barely credible excuses. What happened to Liverpool having a 'better squad' than last season, something Dalglish has repeatedly told anyone who'll listen this season?
After spending 117m, we're supposed to believe that there aren't enough players to handle the demands of the fixture list (!), which doesn't even include European football?!
Andy Carroll played 8 minutes against QPR; if tiredness was an issue, why didn't he start today's game? Jon Flanagan and Jordan Henderson didn't start the QPR game, so the tiredness excuse doesn't even apply.
Other observations:
* Henderson was poor, though in his defence, he was played out of position again. Being yanked at half-time will not do his confidence any good.
* Downing and Kuyt swapping flanks. Nice idea, but what is the point? It never has any impact; there's no discernible tactical point, and it just unbalances the team (IMO)
* The defence has gone to pieces over the last month, basically since Daniel Agger got injured. Skrtel made yet another mistake; it seems he can only perform to his highest level alongside Agger.
* Total lack of leadership on the field again. After all the hyperbole about Gerrard after the Everton game, he's been pretty poor as a leader recently. Agger is again missed in that regard as he is one of the club's only leaders on the field.
* Liverpool hammered QPR in the first 20 minutes on Wednesday; quick out of the blocks, and won 11 corners in the first 15 minutes. Today, it was almost the opposite: slow and subdued. It seems that the team feels the pressure more in front of home fans, and don't take as many risks in fear of making a mistake.
* Positives: Great to see Sterling get a chance, and he did great. Also good to see Shelvey and Flanagan play well.
Dalglish vs. Hodgson: updated stats to include today's game:
Ultimately, Dalglish's £117m spend has bought Liverpool:
* A 36% win percentage (just 1% more than Hodgson)
* Less home wins than Hodgson
* more home draws than Hodgson
* The same goals-per-game ratio as Hodgson
* 1.35 increase in conversion rate
* 7% more clean sheets
* 0.15 more points per game than Hodgson
* A higher cost per win/cost per point ratio
Only the most deluded bubble-dweller could describe this as 'progress'...
I do feel for Dalglish though - his heart is in the right place, and his intentions are honourable; it just hasn't worked out for him.

Absolutely no excuses possible and credible anymore. Wait the remaining games out, and tell Dalglish "thank you for your effort, now please go back to the ambassadorial role".
ReplyDeleteFrankly speaking, Dalglish is not the right man to lead liverpool to fight for the title in the coming years. With the exception of Bellamy, Suarez and Enrique, nearly all his signings has been flop and gave average performances. I just can't understand, why everytime Kenny find excuses to defend his players. They simply don't deserve to play for this club.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, Benitez was the man who used to do his job in decent way though he committed mistakes but I think he was the man to make Liverpool compete in the league. His tactics were simply outstanding.
Agreed.
ReplyDeleteA manager swap after the season is preferred.
no one to blame but kenny an dhis total waste of money on TOSSERS with the biggest being carroll, it's gone from king keeny to south parks who killed kenny
ReplyDeleteTotally embarassing. The Benitez baiters should hang their heads in shame. At least we were seeded in Europe and an equal to anyone on our day including Barca and Real.We quite simply are dreadful and are inviting mediocre teams to come and beat us.We simply aren't good enough to play in ANY European competition at the moment as the Wigan and QPR results suggest and the longer this nonsense continues the more likely we are to become the premiership whipping boys.Teams hold no fear whatsoever of us anymore.
ReplyDeleteCome back Rafa all is forgiven !
Kenny is unbelievable, embarassing does not even begin to describe how he comes across as our manager, all season his comments have been borderline delusional. Tiredness Kenny? really? Any thoughts on what playing next season on Thursday nights is going to do?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the stats Jaimie, It paints an embarassing picture for those who did want hodgson out and yet still defend kenny based on sentiment.
The standards at this club are to be the best, the overall aim is not to get 4th but to get our hands on the prem title. Us fans want the best players that are available to help us achieve that, not sure then why fans have settled for mediocrity when it comes to managing.
Gerrard, Suarez and Carroll played against Everton and Stoke, we win both and he tinkers with the team. He can't help himself, Henderson plays out of position, Downing plays on the wrong wing, Maxi is nowhere to be seen. He can't help but muck about with the side because he is incredibly arrogant and does the opposite of what makes the most sense simply because he can.
ReplyDeleteJaime have a look at a premiership table from 1/1/12 to date if you have time. It shows just what a terrible job he is doing. I feel awful about this because he is our greatest ever player and a true Liverpool legend but he must go as soon as the season ends , literally the day after it finishes so the new man has the most time possible, regardless of whether we win the FA cup or not.
The really upsetting thing for me is that that he will leave with his memory tarnished badly because of this and his abysmal handling of the Suarez situation and I'm not sure there will be any sort of job for him. Clarke and Keen will also have to go which is a real shame for them, but as I say look at the form in the last 3 months. We are in effect relegation candidates despite the money spent and pretty much anyone could do a better job, anyone.
I c that not many fans have come in here yet to tell us how much we have progressed under KD. It's very depressing to b a Liverpool fan at the mo. I mean very, very, very depressing.
ReplyDeleteI cant undrestand way dont the fans protest after the game to get kenny out this is not good enought,am sick as a dog watching this crap week in and week out. wake up henry sack this fucking fool of a manager you have to be whatching this on tv, please for the goog of the fans
ReplyDeleteMajor overhauling is what the situation demands. I question the work being done by Damien Comolli. Some questions that need to be answered soon, otherwise we may be fighting at the wrong end of the table:-
ReplyDelete1. Why not use Gerrard on the right, with his experience he can deliver some decent balls in the box.
2. Why do the full backs not support in the attack, at least against relatively smaller clubs and at home?
3. Why is there no consistency in the team selection?
4. Why are there so many long ball attempts? Are we accepting that we are not t playing football?
5. Why are the young players and those from academy given more chances, because the way big earners are playing they wont make school teams?
Not too surprised as I am not a fan of him in there but really really disappointed with the performances Stevie has put in, in midfield. He is the talisman of the side, players like Hendo, Spearing, etc, need him to show some maturity in the way his controls the game. The whole side were shambolic but you expect your key players, especially captain, to at least put in a proper level. His 'bottom level' (i.e. the level of his performances on a bad day, generally, has always worried me but I also think he is maybe thinking 'how many more times do i have to be the 'go-to-man'. Don't know how much fight Stevie has left in him, especially when surrounded with the level of players he has at the club.
ReplyDeleteWhy even bother to compare our 2 biggest and most recent disasters.Neither is/was ANYWHERE NEAR good enough to take the club forwards... Why not compare Benitez and Dalglish...
ReplyDeleteOh... you were one of his baiters weren't you.
Congratulations !
The funny thing about the 'tired' excuse is that he was giving it large about how we have one of the fittest squads, if not the fittest, in the league prior to the game.
ReplyDeleteAfter the
ReplyDeletetoday’s defeat the team emits an SOS signal to John W. Henry, Thomas Werner,
Ian Ayre, and Damien Comolli. The fourth
of them can no longer be watching impassively the struggling humiliation of one
of the most historic teams and do nothing!
We all pay tribute to Kenny Dalglish and we classify him in our memories
and hearts as a real legend but that doesn’t necessarily mean we should keep
him as LFC’s manager from the moment we observe that under him we do not see
the light of hope for recovery at the end of the tunnel. This is a responsibility and meditation time
for all of us. The emotional factor
should be waived and with the only protractor which should be the best interest
of our beloved team we ask the four to ask kindly Kenny Dalglish for the sake
of the team to step down as LFC’s manager!
Prior to this match, I wonder if KD asked the players for a response to the timid capitulation at QPR? Another set of dire performances from the usual suspects. Henderson should be benched and only come on when Jonjo Shelvey gets tired. Carragher's best years are behind him and in the absence of Agger it should be Coates who occupies that position. Raheem Sterling was superb during his brief cameo and should have been brought on earlier. Imagine 90 minutes of him and Suarez creating havoc for the opposition. As for Andy Carroll, he is just embarrassing to watch. We should sell him, at a loss, if we can find another team willing to have him.
ReplyDeleteafter the first game everybody knew what is lyin ahead for liverpool with liverpool in charge... i dont blame Damien as i think this arrogant old man, who i dont even wanna take the name of, didnt give him any freedom in buyin and damien will surely not buy all british as his record shows... i have stopped watching liverpool play now and will not till this old man will be in charge of liverpool... i feel laboured and sad after each performance and his tactics and excuses make me sick... even a ten year old boy thinks better then this man.. hope he is not demented and delusional.. god knows where we will be if this guy carry us and the most important thing is he never accept his mistakes... king ? i will never ever accept it.... never.. not for me
ReplyDeleteIf Tom and John can find someone to take over the team, Kennny should go now. I can think of one right now, his name starts with "R".
ReplyDeleteThe season is ruined anyways and 10 games are valuable for a new manager to get to know the players and give the younger players like Sterling, Morgan and Shelvey time on the pitch, 3-4 games in the summer is not enough.
I hope Kenny does the right thing and steps down. He is a legend but not more important then the team, like he always says.
Gerrard,Suarez and Carroll shows it should work after beating Everton 3 nil and then Stoke you would have thought Kenny would have stuck with them and stick Kuyt on the left if he wants Downing on the right.
ReplyDeleteDalglish OUT!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing left to say. I'm sending in the troops.........
ReplyDeleteWe are the resistance...................
Its hard when one has to work with donkeys at a horse race. The rubbish purchased by Messrs Comolli are thorough-bread Elephant manure.Kenny is honest enough to understand that when he F'S UP he needs to step down.Stanley and Paisley are restless in the after-Life..maybe securing the services of " Jonny Hex" will provide us with answers as to how we can play like true champions.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, If you want to see the direction LFC is going look at the football pages and see who they "Think" we will buy - The lowest of the low...shit players that cant even hold a place in there current teams.
KK needs to assess : 1) What's important for LFC currently.
2) The players must show commitment to the LFC Brand and History.
3) Stop doing post match interviews and telling us that it was "Luck" and
that LFC is unlucky (KK i will ignore everything you say, should this
happen)
Finally, I bleed RED..SINCE 1970'S - I had a reason to watch my team now i am trying to perform rituals for them to win..with my family looking at me as if i am a nutter..
FIX - CHANGE - OR LEAVE - KK You decide.
great article and fairly writen. it would have been easy and come and say i told you so jk !!
ReplyDeletei really and sadly thought it was going to be a fairytale when we got new owners and then kenny back with a point to prove.
maybe kenny should just put his hands up and say ive f#cked up with my signings and carried on playing more youth who deserve to be there more than half the team ( and want to prove themselves) would sort the men from the boys, and the boys would come out on top, like they did when kenny first took over. i cant defend him anymore, ive tried but i just cant remember a liverpool starting 11 this bad. even when we had the likes of traore at left back and biscan in centre mid there was more about them as a team and individuals wanting to better themselves.
i still want kenny to be part of liverpool and hope it still works out for the best, but maybe he needs to run the youth or reserves or assistant.
he doesnt have time on his side, like perhaps you did 20+ years ago.
even fergie would be sacked today if he started for liverpool like he started for manu.
sad times.
YOU ARE NOT A LIVERPOOL FAN END OF, WHATEVER YOU THINK,SAY OR CONTRIBUTE FROM HERE; IMO YOU ARE ARE NOT A TRUE FAN OF LIVERPOOL!!! Dalglish as you so called say and will not name is the king as he has provided liverpool with glory as a player and manager. he is still the last person to win the league with us and only come back because of fan hysteria and that FSG thought that if they did not sign him anfield would burn. YNWA is a saying, we sing it when we win but it is more important to sing it when we are down, it signifies the fact YNWA. You are a hypocrite; you like everyone else wanted wanted KK and dont lie, but today your content to slag him. KK come back at a troubled time, i agree the league form could be better and he may not be the man to take us to where we want to be, but i will never ever disrespect this man as he has given more to lfc in one minute than you would ever in your lifetime. its one thing saying 'i dont think it is the right choice' but not even aknowledging him is beyond redemtion. you are a disgrace to the club. KK = king because as a player and manager he was absolutely awsome. the only reason he come back was because we wanted him, he could of stayed an ambassador loved by all. we are the sole reason for his demise, but even if he does leve he will still be the king as he answered all our calls at the time.
ReplyDeleteIf the players are tired, rotate them ! Benitez used to take loads if stick for using that policy, but I don't ever remember him using 'tired players' as an excuse for loosing a game. Despite all the garbage about young Raheen Sterling being to young, to lightweight not ready etc etc , the lad was the only one to come out of that disaster with any credit. Someone should give Dalglish a hint that that IS WHAT THE RESERVES ARE THERE FOR ! It isn't rocket science, and there are other young players in the reserves just waiting for the chance to show their mettle. Hodgson lost his job because he thought he knew better than the fans and chose to ignore them, Dalglish should heed the warnings. Should we go out of the FA Cup I see no point in him hanging around. Does he still think that we can obtain a top four finish ?? LOL - which apparently is the jargon the younger generation use when being sarcastic. ( Should suit Dalglish!)
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, Benitez got us into 2 finals and a 5th place in his first season with arguably a worse and definitively cheaper team. And he was criticized for not understanding the premier league and for rotating too much !!! Nobody cared for the fact that the players that he possessed might be tired from all the games.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, Daglish should be treated in the same way! Not only does he have a much more expensive squad filled with British people who should know what premier league is about, but he didn't even have any European distraction! I can't believe he actually used an excuse of a busy schedule to justify such bad results. Suarez was that tired? why not put Caroll in the starting 11? He played 8 mins last time, so he shouldn't be "that" tired.
P.S Just to clarify, I used Benitez's example not to glorify him or make him look better than Daglish (for those benitez haters), but to highlight how pathetic Daligh's excuse is after spending over 100 million on players (btw, apparently that's the third of the value of what John W. Henry bought liverpool for!!!)
Jaimie is Kenny any where near matching Rafa's worse run of results in 22 years from the 09/10 season?
ReplyDeletekenny said the team was tried i work a 50 hour week hard labour on a building site travel the length of the country watching this shit,,get real kenny ur excuses are embarrassing ,,the team and squad just arent good enough like you move upstairs and let the yanks search europe for a top manager with fresh ideas and new players instead of this british based tripe that we are made to suffer week in and out,,
ReplyDeleteMAYBE THE PLAYERS ARE SCARED BECAUSE OF FANS LIKE YOU SLATING THEM 24.7
ReplyDeleteWHEN WE HAD RAFA YOU SLATED HIM
WHEN WE HAD ROY YOU SLATED HIM
NOW WE HAVE KENNY YOUR SLATING HIM
Realism - is always good, but stupidity isn't.
Fact - Jan 2011 we were a total laughing stock, and were potentially going to finish outside of the top 10.
March 2012, we still can potentially finish outside of the top 10, but because of shocking performances in matches that don't matter at all.
Kenny has come in and brought shit like Downing, because before Kenny came, players viewed us as relegation candidates.
Mata etc.. won't come to us, we need to break the top 4.
How the hell is appointing Rafa going to do that? The guy that after spending 300 million after winning the FA and being second in the league ended up finishing us off in 5th and isolating so many players
Martin O'neil? please tell me your fucking joking...
ReplyDeleteNo more F british players or MANAGERs
ReplyDeletephilip dean u are one of those fans ....who say in kenny we trust, peoples like u will surely be happy if LIVERPOOL gets relegated.by kenny hands....and then u will say ....AAH KENNY HAVE TO GO....
ReplyDeleteI am a huge Dalglish fan and always will be, but we will never be a top 4 team with him as manager. Why are Carroll and Henderson allowed anywhere near the first team? why were Cole and Aquilani allowed to go on loan. Sorry Kenny but time to go and lets get Mourinho
ReplyDeleteKD was going on last year about having a great squad and the importance of strength in depth. This is fine if you actually utilise the depth the squad has instead of trotting out the same players - especially the expensive summer purchases - game after game and then blame a poor performance on tiredness. We are without Agger and Lucas but in Coates and Spearing/Shelvey we have cover. For KD to blame tiredness is inexcusable. What will it be next? Time of the month?
ReplyDeleteWhat is it that we need to forgive Rafa on? That he got us to two European Cup finals? That he made Anfield a fortress? We are the laughing stock of Premier League. Wigan came to Anfield today with 3 in the back!!! What team ever tried doing that when Rafa was in charge!!!
ReplyDeletePhilip......If YOU really are a Liverpool fan than, you should take back the cr*p, you've just posted!. KD needs to step down, and step down, NOW!!!
ReplyDeleteYESSS. I have the exactly the same view. Do you see how happy Gerrard was when he set up Suarez. If it was Downing or Henderson burying that he would have a look of relief on his face.
ReplyDeleteAwesome retort to the idiotic post above. I have been a fan of this club for over 30 years and have never seen such disrespectful comments aimed at anyone as revered as Kenny Dalglish. If I heard someone talking like this in the street and they had any LFC colours on, they would be eating through a straw and I'd be in prison. You do NOT speak of Kenny Dalglish in this manner after what he has done for this club. Get yourself up to Anfield, stand in front of the Hillsborough memorial and read the 96 names. Kenny Dalglish went to the funeral of every fan mentioned on it.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit that I've been disappointed about the recent run of results but HOW FUCKING DARE YOU speak of the man in that manner.
Poor, plastic fan.
ReplyDeleteSee that is where net spend comes in
ReplyDelete11/12 season£56 million spent £21 million sold £35 million net spend
10/11 season
£58 million spent £56 million sold £2 million net spend
Yes Kenny has brought £114 million of players but JWH has only spent £37 million.
Rafael Benitez will be laughing his head off tonight.....Rafael your club needs you once again
ReplyDeleteAAnyone seen Red4Life.......wonder if he's crawled back under again .....ha ha ha.....
ReplyDeleteFATIGUE?? I go to the gym 4 days straight every week, I have the same level of cardio and my strength doesn't drop in my weight-training workouts, it actually increases surprisingly. These are professional players, the "best" in the country, the medical staff give them therapy massages, chef's cook them the healthiest diets, no stress in paying bills, and they are fatigued?? That performance was half-hearted, and uninspiring. It has been the case for months now, and they are fatigued today? The only fatigue I see is that they are tired of trying!!!
ReplyDeleteIf Rafa was in charge, do you think any of these groups of players would pull this kind of crap?? They are so arrogant, that they hit back at critics (downing), continue to say we will fight (adam), saying that they are still learning (Henderson- why doesn't Sterling fit this statement?) and they have their pal Kenny backing them.
This has to stop man, Rafa demanded more than this. Should never have left. He would turn Suarez, into a Messi I am sure of it. People can berate him on all his finishing, but his chances are hardly clear cut as the one Gerrard dished out to him today. Kenny doesn't know how to get his players to attack the back line bottom-line. Expect more results like this, because if teams like Wigan come to Anfield with a 3 in the back, then we are doomed.
F*ck me AT LAST!!! Iv been hammered by fellow fans for suggesting the messiah that is KK isn't the right man to do the job, for a long time the signs have been there that not all is rosey red & i dared to speak out only to be told im not a real fan etc etc. I have never once not been a fanatical supporter of the club and that will NEVER change, it is because i love the club so much that i felt somebody had to speak out against our underperforming 'stars'. Too many of them seem to think that just putting on the world famous jersey entitles them to a huge pay cheque & an easy ride and im sorry but kennys excuses are getting all the more rediculous when you consider we aren't in europe & were taken to extra time by a championship club who should've finished us off in normal time in the league cup.
ReplyDeleteAccording to KK we are better than we were last year in terms of strength yet he moans we dont have enough depth - im sorry kenny there was me thinking we had some of the countrys best youngsters waiting in line - if you're good enough you're old enough, you only have to look at the impact oxlade-chamberlain has made at arsenal to see that & we have a plentiful supply of talented youngsters who would give their all to wear the liver bird on their chest & walk out at a packe d anfield and they would no doubt have a bigger impact than the dross we see week in week out from flops like adam, henderson, downing etc.
In short i honestly think we'd be best served starting our new manager search now so we can get him in before the season ends, give him a few games with what he's got so he can get a good idea of his team & what needs replacing, blood some of the youngsters (because KK isn't going to) & raise the fans again.
P.S. I havent always agreed with your articles but this one reinforces what iv been saying for a long time now & also.............
IT TOOK YOU HATERS LONG ENOUGH BUT IM GLAD YOU'RE FINALLY SINGING FROM THE SAME HYMNSHEET
P.P.S. anyone wana start a petition or think it'd a good idea to get rafa back 'till the end of season & see how it goes???????????!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAt least we wouldnt have to pay compo to get him, & we could send kenny on his way with his flops!! :-)
Sorry mate, he'd cause major a upheaval and set us back further. The team has gone through a massive change over the last 12 months and knee jerk reactions aren't good for anything.
ReplyDeleteI honestly though we would be challenging this season. We're not but we have qualified for Europe and are in the FA cup semi finals.
We won the Carling cup, agreed, not the most glamourous of trophies but ask any of the teams above us, with the exception of Chelsea & Man Utd, what they have won in the last 5 years;
Tottenham - Carling Cup 2008
Newcastle - Championship 2009
Man City - FA Cup 2011
Arsenal - zilch
I'm confident that we will win the Prem sooner rather than later and I want Kenny to lead us there, he deserves it.
Just wondering how does KK's overall league record after rejoining the club compare to RH's? I know KK's first 20 games compare much more favourably to RH's first and only 20 games, yet it is interesting to see where his overall record stands.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that the results this season are below expectations and well under traditional Liverpool standards. And while it has been pretty obvious that RH is not the manager we need, the big question is whether KK is...? After his multiple British buys, simplistic tactical approach at times, and a requirement for a bit too direct football, I am not so convinced.
Hard times, but let's remember YNWA and support the manager and the team.
totally agree JK. 3 games in 6 days is the most lamest of excuses.
ReplyDeletesaid it at the time that the money spent on henderson, downing, adam, carroll was wasted. rather not have spent the money. kelly RB, johnson RM, with perhaps one big spend instead on a centre mid and give others a chance elsewhere. and got slated for it. now look.
Poor deluded fan
ReplyDeleteI know a few pundits who played with Kenny and have been supporting Kenny all season in their lack of scrutiny of the season. They play golf with Kenny and dont give him the criticism he deserves that gets dished out to others like Villas Boas - Kenny has had plenty of support from his mates in the media.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I didn't get that, how does net spend relate to my post? Are you referring to the last sentence in brackets? If that's so then to clarify it, I meant the value of the players he brought in, not the overall money used to buy the players.
ReplyDeletePayers tired after Wigan loss at HOME...really?really?Don`t know what went wrong after giving up 2 goal lead to in final 14 mins..really?really?Dalglish,legend player, legend status...but pull your head out of the sand and do the right thing by LFC....step down gracefully,NOW and Mr Henry, make sure that those overpaid players who could`nt give a damn about showing any sense of committment, performance and loyalty to the red shirt that is LFC go at seasons end....Shameful performance that deserved all(and more)of the boos it got..and at Anfield FFS!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNot deluded mate, patient. This team WILL improve, it just needs a couple of tweaks and we'll be firing on all cylinders
ReplyDeleteDitto. Hansen hasn't exactly gone Defcon 1 over our league performance because KK is in charge but he has lambasted likes of AVB, Balotelli, etc, this season.
ReplyDeleteKK is equally responsible for the transfers, if not more, as Comolli, as illustrated by their public comments over the transfer policy. To suggest anything else is a person who is an apologist over KK and is burying their head in the sand, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteKK barely criticises the players in public (like today, he gave the 'tired' excuse', let alone players reading/listening to what the fans feel, so I doubt the players are 'scared'. They just seem to be stumbling along blissfully unaware how **** they have been in the league. You don't hear of the players making comments in the media about how poor they have been in the league.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that it looks like Kenny Dalglish doesn't know what he's doing - e.g when interviewed he mentioned players having to play a lot of games (3 in 6 days) and that he had to use a lot of the same players in those 3 matches, so whose fault is that then, is it not the manager who has been there for nearly a season and a half? And how is it that Stoke have played 3 games in 6 days also and have done better than Liverpool (Stoke drew 2 games against top 4 teams, Liverpool lost 2 games against bottom 4 teams). It can't be because Tony Pulis is a better manager than Kenny Dalglish, can it?
ReplyDeleteAt this rate we will not need a new stadium, there will be no one who wants to go and watch that shambles. What is the point in controlling a game if you don't win it? Are we playing that new american game called keep ball, where you get points for style and how long you can keep it with out doing anything with it. If the players where tired, it could be true, because there running round like headless chickens and they have been doing this all season. It must take it out of you. The team lacks drive in the prem. in the cups we look a different team. Has KK made the cups a priority at the expense of the prem. as there is no point in us being in the champs league as we are not ready? suppose only time will tell.
ReplyDeleteFrom with in the club? Other then the dreaded vote of confidence from the board !
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you say the fans wanted him so Fenway obliged - and that is where the whole thing is fundamentally wrong - he was never the right candidate to begin with. In the space of a few months the so called best fans in the world outed a manager by public denigration and then got carried away with sentiment by vocally calling for KD to be given the job on a permanent basis.
ReplyDeleteGuillem Balague pointed this out a few weeks back, and fans must accept that the desperate attempt to bring back the good times of the past glories by turning to the man that made it possible 25 years back was a big mistake - kenny was never qualified to operate in the modern game - he does not have a clue as the british game has changed so much.
Just pointing out what JWH has actually spent!
ReplyDeleteBit surprised about the tired comment because Kenny was asked about players being tired after a comment from the QPR player Mackie who said QPR players sensed the Liverpool players were tired on Wednesday but Kenny said no and didn't use it has an excuse!
spin it how you want with the net spend argument - he has blown the money he was given and screwed us for years - if someone else does come in then they will have to work with these expensive hopeless flops
ReplyDeleteDid Stoke beat us?
ReplyDeleteNothing to do with tiredness more like they lost believe that they could play so well against QPR
Not spinning nothing I have put Kenny spent £114 million I am not arguing, but JWH hasn't spent £114
ReplyDeletemillion that is a fact.
We need a striker who can actually score goals, we need creative midfielders and players who can actually pass the ball to a player on the same team. Admit mistakes have been made with Carroll (who I wouldn't pick for a Sunday pub team) and Henderson. Cut our losses and prepare for next season. The excuses are cringeworthy and the displays are feeble to the point of being amateur. I could go on for ever. One question. Are the Dalglish buys as bad as the numpties Souness inflicted on us? Almost makes you nostalgic for Clough, Saunders and Dicks.
ReplyDeletedid you show patience with hodgson? and by your logic wouldnt have hodgsons team improved with "tweaks" ????
ReplyDeleteAnother factor people dont realise is that dalglish has never had the same hunger to win after hillsborough. The tragedy changed him totally. He is ok until any kind of stress occurs and then the post traumatic stress kicks in every time and his decision making goes to pot.ALL FANS SHOULD REALISE THAT THIS THE NUMBER ONE FACTOR BEHIND THE HORROR STORY OF OUR SEASO.DALGLISH AT THE START OF THE SEASON WHEN DECIDING ABOUT SIGNINGS WENT BACK TO HIS HAPPY PLACE LIKE ALL SUFFERERS OF PTSD AND TOURNED BACK THE CLOCK TO 1987 TO HIS ALL BRITISH TEAM.THE RESULT HAS BEEN CATASTROPHIC FOR ALL OF US.I SUSPECT THAT DALGLISH WILL BE REMOVED SHORTLY ON HEALTH GROUNDSO.Our club is deeply troubled.
ReplyDeleteBenitez is a difficult manager to figure out - which is why he divides people, a lot of LFC fans reckon he had to go, a lot of LFC fans wanted him to stay. He did make Liverpool a very hard team to beat - that was always going to give them a chance in knockout competitions but his defensive approach (e.g. remember 2008/09 playing with two holding midfielders at home against lower half teams for the first 2/3 of the season) meant that too many league games would get drawn to give the team a chance to win the league. He did win the Primera Liga but in seasons with an unusually low number of points (so great for Valencia but something a potential employer should be aware of).
ReplyDeleteA lot of LFC fans think that Rafa's way got them close to the league title in 08/09 but it was actually Rafa's way that prevented them winning the league that year - the timid 'safety first' approach meant that the title was already gone before the 1-4 at Old Trafford, in fact it was because there was essentially nothing to lose that caused Benitez to throw caution to the winds for those concluding games of that season (and its these games that LFC fans refer to when discussing that title challenge season not the games earlier in the season which IMO more accurately reflect the Benitez management style).
As a Man Utd fan I don't mind if either Kenny Dalglish or Rafa Benitez manage Liverpool, as long as they don't get a competent manager like Martinez or Rodgers, or Hodgson :).
We ask the same question about you and others when we have won!
ReplyDeleteArguably he's never been the same since Hillsborough, and understandably so. No matter what anyone will say about Dalglish's management his response to the Hillsborough disaster means that he will always be regarded as a great human being.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool need a new Shankly - i.e. identify a young clever manager and then back him all the way for the next 2 to 3 seasons (what Abramowich said he would do at Chelsea but then didn't). The trick is identifying that young clever guy - it was AVB this time last year, but not now. Maybe Martinez (but can he handle a big club) or Rodgers (ditto)? And whoever it is has to be able to handle the fans - they expect a 'god', but it took even Shankly 3 or 4 seasons to get promotion from the 2nd division.
ReplyDeleteHodgson up set Anfield as simple as that !He up set The Kop big mistake! Fans that pay to go to games! Isn't the customer always right?
ReplyDeleteProblem with saying Kenny hasn't got a clue is how did he manage to beat the teams he did when he first took over and managed to earn a 3 year contract?
ReplyDeleteCome on people we r all annoyed , upset and depressed but we shouldn't talk about KD like some people r. He's the mngr of our club. I'm sure that he wants the best for the club just as much as we do and if he feels that can't do his best than I'm sure he will step down. I hope he steps down and moves upstairs and makes way for RB but till he does that than we should support our club however hard it is at the mo. I personally think that we have not progressed at all and the 4 players he bought r average at best. I think he's made mistake by going for overrated and overpriced Brit players and that's whats costing him.
ReplyDeletekenny for the good of lfc pls step down , you have handled this season terribly in the media. (the suarez situation and the terrible excuses after games and blind faith in absolute shite players, )aswell as insulting the knolwedge of the kop and lfc faithful, insisting we are improving ,i would back u to the hilt for yrs if i tought we would progress but i know we wont as u are a footballing dinosaur from a by gone era,
ReplyDelete,
transfer purchases,(now if i knew liverpool hand 20 mil to get a right winger after we signed downibg who is decent on the left to be fair not 20 mil player mind, but if i had that money i would never in a fkn million yrs knowing the problems lfc have had in this area for so long sign jordan henderson as he is way to young and is a central player . then keep playing him when u have ppl like sterling in the wings )
lack of young players being involved when its queit clear you dont play in this team on merit(chalie adam, jamie carrager is a fkn joke ...... he wasnt a scouse he would a been completly dropped by now this is a massive problem nuf said)
, rather by the fact of either being a scouser, or one of the players you signed.
your repataion is now permenently in tatters in the eyes of the younger fan, you are an icon but u are fkn ur status bigtime and i dont care wat any tick cumin on here saying support the king , grow up ppl he is not the king he is in his 60s and looks 10yrs older and stressed outa his head back in the game plaese please stpe down kenny there is not a manager in the world i would rather have followed than u but its over the players are not playing for u ....resign asap and give the role to young attacking football playing manager
I see how you came up with this. I remember my self in the same boat crying out for substitutions that didn't come, and I berated Lucas but what a player he is today. But the STYLE of play, and the way he prepared for games, that title challenging season was great, but even in that season we were still missing that extra player, a winger IMO, that would give Liverpool that extra push. Benitez has unfinished business. But he has been out of the game too long now, if he comes back I wonder if he has been keeping tabs on players under the radar around the world.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if it's the hunger that's gone, but it definitely did affect him. Anyone who was there that day, or at Heysel, was changed forever, whether they care to admit it or not. I know I developed (amongst other things) OCD, which gets worse when I am under pressure, or even when Liverpool are playing shite.
ReplyDeleteWhilst I appreciate how upset, disappointed and downright angry people are, some of the comments and personal castigation of Kenny Dalglish by people on these sites, has been shameful. And it's not a recent thing, either, it all started because he dared to back a player who was so blatantly stitched up.
I hope that this doesn't make Kenny ill again, because it's just not worth it. It's just football. WE OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD AT LEAST GET SOME PERSPECTIVE IN OUR LIVES.
Today we were poor, but it actually looked like Kenny gave them a bollocking at half-time, they came out fighting, and within 10 mins of the re-start could [should] have been 2-1 up. The really scary thing was how the players let a disallowed goal affect them so much. How their heads dropped. How they threw the towel in. How our much-vaunted leader on the field could't even inspire himself, let alone those around him. Sometimes players have to take a bit of responsibility. They are the only ones who can change a game. The desire doesn't seem to be there any more. The substitutions just didn't make sense. Again. Downing was the only player running at them, so him on the right and Sterling on the left, we may have turned it around. And for about the 7th game on the trot, Reina just went down on one knee and didn't look like he was even trying.I am not angry, or disillusioned, just desperately sad.
If he wants the best for our club then he should f@ck offfff now
ReplyDeleteWWhen were last time we won convincingly for me to be happy....and don't say everton ...they had half of their team not playing.....and if you call not beating cardiff after 120mins winning...then i wish we never win
ReplyDeleteI was left aghast by KD's post-match comments. He said, "Tiredness took its toll". It sounds so freaking silly! They are footballers for God's sake Kenny. If they can't play 4 matches in a space of 2 weeks, then they should not be playing in the first place. And, why not simply admit that Wigan were a much better team, that most of Liverpool players barring lone fighter Suarez were poor. KD, your intentions are right but tactics aren't! Carroll, Henderson, Adam - these names should not be on the team sheet to begin with. Now that Sterling has proved in 10 mins of display the quality he has, please play him if you have a thing against Maxi. Give Doni a chance, too. I haven't seen Reina make one decent save in last 3 months. Change things around, KD, it's high time!
ReplyDeleteScrew the media.
ReplyDeleteA pity someone gave him money to spend, he was doing alright without it
ReplyDeleteSame customers that want KK out?
ReplyDeleteWhere is Morris Jeff, the sanctimonious apologist
ReplyDeleteWell, those sane ones of us were saying this right back in August, but we were chastised by Dalglish super fans and told to shut up. Don't say we didn't tell you so. A legend of the club has had his reputation as a manager tarnished. He's still a legend and a nice guy but he was never the right fit for the modern day era and his fans had to learn the hard way.
ReplyDeleteSo, where to now? Of course, Liverpool could get Rafa back. He's tactically so much better than Dalglish and will bring us a relentless supply of talented spaniards. I would have him back personally.
But what about starting afresh? There's too much nostalgia about this club, too much sentiment. Always has been. Perhaps Liverpool need a total clearout. Get rid of Gerrard, Carragher, CHAD and any other old timers. Promote Shelvey, Sterling etc. Bring in some talented foreigners and get a young manager with fresh ideas. Martinez completely outmaneuvered Dalglish. He deserves to manage a big club. Can Liverpool even call themselves that anymore, though?
Make the call Boston.
stevie g player manager??? joke
ReplyDeleteLLast 18 games....5 wins....5 draws....8 losses
ReplyDeletethat's 20points out of 54points......pathetic
Him and Red4Life are having a cry in together
ReplyDeleteHim and Red4Life are having a cry in together
ReplyDeleteDalglish has always said he'll only do whatever is best for the football club. He has to stand by this, now more than ever. He can't let his own stubbornness and pride get in the way of making good decisions, one of them potentially being to walk away from his current role. He obviously has much to offer and Liverpool have shown us some great football under Kenny, but you just can't ignore these results. Something is not right and not even Kenny can articulate it, instead feeding us a stream of strange excuses.
ReplyDeleteThis team can still play good football but I think more significant than fatigue is simple confidence and attitude. There is nothing to play for now in this league and I'm not seeing players fight hard enough to do what needs to be done. They seem horribly unsure of what they can do, even if they play brilliantly they won't win. I have no idea what the answer to that is, but if Kenny doesn't know either then he has to hand over the job to someone who does.
Your theory would be sound if teams that were below us had not attracted better players at a better price.
ReplyDeleteu got it right this time Jamie K
ReplyDeleteNot happening much is it?
ReplyDeleteAmazing, we are now 13 points behind Tottenham who have drawn their last two games and lost 3 on the spin before that. Our last two games were against QPR and WIGAN! We should be within 7 points of 4th place now, at least, with decent performances. With the losses at Bolton and Sunderland, we could have been well in contention with just half decent performances. Nowhere near good enough. Anyone who is satisfied with this is basically prepared to accept anything. Apart from Hodgson early on and at the end of his time, I don't recall the team being this bad for so long. And Hodgson did not spend what we've spent in the last 7 or 8 months.
Still on the happy pills, no doubt. Or maybe he is watching his 'Friends' dvd?
ReplyDeleteIf Kennys theory of 3 games in a week is correct, we really should be a lot closer to Arsenal and Chelsea. Even his excuses betray the fact that this seasons results simply have not been good enough.
ReplyDeleteAs an American who has no connection to Liverpool other than his love for football and all that the Anfield faithful represent KD must go. John Henry will not put up with losing. He fired a manager that won him two World Series. It's painful to watch as we lose to teams in the bottom of the table.
ReplyDeleteWakeup man,no one is bigger than the club, legend is to bring back proud memories but we need someone can take us to the top,WE NEED A NEW LEGEND,Pls snap out of it philip.
ReplyDeleteCan't blame them mark,i know they're being disrespect to a walking legend and is not a polite way to xpress it but like me,they loved the club too much that's why me or they can't bear to see the club in this kind of situation, and our legend is not the right man to take us up.We want what is best for our club and no legend or whatsoever is bigger than the CLUB.
ReplyDeletehey mark!!! you're living in a dream with our legend in fond, proud or whatever moments or memories and seems like you feel legend is bigger than the club, snap outta it,No one or legend is bigger THAN THE CLUB. No club means no legend and no legend means no club but legend fades in memories while club still stood. You're fan of daglish not fan of the club. I wonder when daglish was manager of blackburn did you become a fan for them??? I bet you don't even know what liverpool means,POO....Rrrr mark
ReplyDeleteIn your dream mate.
ReplyDeletestop living in the past mate and wake up for the future... no one has and no one will have the power to ruin the kingdom why not it is the king himself because it is our club as well as much as it is his... its not his failings that hurts most but his attitude, his poor reasoning and his non acceptance of a thing that is clear for all to see... he may be a legend and have done great but i am not a king kenny fan but a liverpool fan... and liverpool comes for me first before anyone and anybody and i will definitely speak against them if there is a danger of liverpool goin down in history just because we cant talk false of a legend. Moreover everyone can see how crtitical these years are and these few years we r out of champions league we r havin a freefall. we all know in our heart that if this continues for a year or more we will be lost and who knows lost for how long... thats why we hav to be brave and ruthless... we cant delay the change because we want to be there to see the change... long live liverpool and god give wisdom to those, live in past and boast in future kind of set of fans and also to their legend king kenny
ReplyDeletedid you read my post, do i suggest he stay, have i blind faith? i am stating people should give this man a bit of respect and if he does step down, fans must allow him to keep his dignity!
ReplyDeleteCan you believe he is still here
ReplyDeletethis is exactly the point - he had fluidity with meireles, kuyt, suarez, lucas, and maxi ... they could pass and move intelligently instead of the rigid movement we have now... KD got the best out of the team last year but now that he has put his stamp on it he will go down as the man who blew millions for the club, has no eye for talent in the market, and for me has been out of the game too long showing he is incapable of finding players abroad that are half the price and twice the player.
ReplyDeleteHodgson upset Anfield? Did you really just say that? you argue fans pay to go to games at anfield... wake up and smell the facts... this season has been the worst at anfield for how many years? but the fans wont show their discontent vocally as it is kenny - they feel he doesnt deserve the denigration that was so easily dished out to hodgson - and that is the hypocrisy I am trying to expose - LFC fans now have rules associated to their scrutiny - much like the normally reliable alan hansen who tells it like it is when it comes to chelsea nd villas boas - but when it comes to kenny and LFC this season cat gets the tongue
ReplyDeletefair enough - JH hasnt spent 114mm , but kenny has...
ReplyDeletebut how does the net spend argument look when you apply it to wenger who has a negative net spend and is sitting how many points above us?
dont know about you... but when we win i dont really feel like typing and getting my pom poms out on a forum - out celebrating ... when you lose there are things to discuss right?
ReplyDeleteThe media creates an image - images create opinions - opinions inform decisions - decisions effect the club
ReplyDeleteThe above applies to potential players, managers, fans etc. You cannot ignore the media if you want growth - In all my years of supporting liverpool in the early to mid 90s I saw United take advantage of marketing and the media which has added to their growth - this is something we never tapped into and took advantage of and this season have inflicted further damage upon.
And to add to that Kenny just comes across as silly with the things he say's - someone should explain the term no comment to him.
The morning after the night before.............
ReplyDeleteThe real mistake, was when FSG awarded Kenny the full-time contract. The players played their hearts out to get him the job on a permanent basis, got some great results, and very nearly overhauled Spurs. And then as soon as he got the job, what did they do? They stopped playing. They went back into their comfort zone. Because they don't give a fuck about the club, just the pay-packet.
I always worry when there is a clamour from players to give a particular manager the job. They can ONLY be doing it from the point of self-interest. It's human nature.
You watch the performance Gerrard will put in at Wembley - when there's a nice carrot dangling in front of him (a bauble, a bit of personal glory, maybe a new boot contract) - compared to what he did yesterday, or at OT.
The point about Kenny tarnishing his reputation is valid, but this happened a while ago. I still cringe when I remember his weekly media interviews in Bairds Bar when he was at Celtic. And there are comparisons, because the media turned on him like they did with the Suraez 'thing' (you call it fiasco, I call it stitch-up) which made him ever more insular. KD was appointed Director of Football at The Hoops in June '99, but by Feb 2000 Johnny Barnes had been sacked. Interestingly, Kenny had recommended JB for the job but "offered himself as a replacement". Sounds frighteningly like Hodgson. He also left in acrimonious circumstances after winning a paltry League Cup....
A year after Kenny left, Celtic won the League, which shows that there wasn't that much wrong with the squad that a bit of hard work and some dedication couldn't put right. And a motivational manager.
I am desperately unhappy we have got to this stage. I want him to retain his dignity, and his health. But once the confidence has gone, it's difficult to get back. Probably not the best analogy, but Bolton were 7th this time last year, now they're sinking, and fast.
Nice one, Mali. Is it really that funny that they care deeply about the club?
ReplyDeleteYou spiteful tw@t.
Lame excuse you have Maxi,Shelvey and you wont even give them a chance you play rarely play Bellamy or Downing and Carroll together you ship Aqualani without giving him a chance to play then you sell off Meireles ,you wont even try the youngsters in the domestic cups .I thought when i read the news today KD would resign and accept some responsibility but all i read is excuses. It is too painful to watch any game right now i'll just follow the news from now on.
ReplyDeleteFergie was scared of Rafa. That's why he wouldn't shut up about him.
ReplyDeleteSorry red, you must have read my post wrong to reply to it in this way. I am a Liverpool fan, have been all my life and, at 39, is quite a long time. What I was getting at is the lack of respect for Kenny Dalglish on this forum. He has done so much for our club and to the families of the Hillsborough tragedy that he deserves to be respected. No true fan would ever dream of speaking about him in this way. I'm sure that he is man enough to step down if he feels that he can't take the club forward. I also feel that he knows he has work to do and also knows how to do it. I also feel that he has realised that signing Carroll was a mistake, regardless of his price tag, he doesn't suit our style of play. Adam is another one who looks out of his depth. Downing has looked lively at times but we don't have an out and out striker with the intelligence and ability to make himself available for Downing's crosses. Henderson baffles me, to be honest, we didn't need him as we have Shelvey but I think he might have been one for the future and, as Man Utd were reportedly after him, we bought him for an inflated price.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, how would you suggest we improve?
people should STOP mentioning the amount of money Dalglish brought in from the departure of players like Torres, Babel, Meireless, Ngoo etc and then say that Henry has only spent 37 Million Pounds. The entire 114 Million pounds are all Henry's money. He bought the club as a business man buys an investment and before paying 300M for LFC, he must have put into consideration the quality of the playing staff. Nobody would have killed Henry if he had not reinvested the funds or if he had released only the 50M from the sale of F.T after-all the points we got from January till May last season would have been enough to get us 3rd at most if Kenny was in charge from the beginning of the season and also used the same team. Bear in mind that Carrol only scored 2-3 goals within that period (2 against City) so if we had not bought him, we could have as well achieved the same height. It was Suarez, Kuyt, Maxi and Meireless that was doing the scoring then.
ReplyDeleteHenry could have comfortably pointed out that we do not need a major overhauling and most fans would have seen reasons with that considering the number of points we earned from January to May last season. Our problem is KD. I have seen managers come and go from different clubs within and outside England but I have never seen a new manager bringing in 8-9 new first team players in his first 1 year in charge. Kenny went too far in trying to stamp his authority on the team. I am sure if he is giving another season, then surely Kuyt, Maxi and Aurelio will leave and then the only Rafa's signing will remain Reina, Skartel and Agger. He might even sell Agger and tell us that he is prone to injuries.
Kuyt was on fire between Jan-May last season with 15 goals. same as Maxi with 2 hat-ricks in 3 games and Meireless. What did Kenny do? he replaced them with the Likes of Henderson, Downing, Adam and also loaned/sold out Aqua man. Mr. Invisible(Henderson) we were told was bought for the future yet he starts every game week in week out while Kuyt and Maxi remains on the bench. We were told they are buying British because they already have experience of the EPL yet Suarez who came from eradivse took to stage right from his debut. even Coates would have done same if he has had enough playing time and for once Kenny has admitted that he made mistakes or that his players are failing him. Imagine telling us that the players were tired when we are not even in Europe and he has been going on and on from the start of the season that we have a better squad now than last year. after spending 114 million pounds, he still does not have enough players to play 3 matches in 9 days. W.A.S
Everton!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWould Rafa be laughing his head off?
ReplyDeleteA club and CITY he loves.
Question is how long do you give a manager?
ReplyDeleteI don't like the way foreign coaches are attacked by the English press/TV try and derided.I thought AVB was treated badly! Brought in to change Chelsea's style of football then bombed out by the players and the owner but not by the fans!
How long ago was that? ermmm over 20 years, past success.
ReplyDeleteFootball has changed, KD hasnt
What does that have to do with this season? Is KD bigger than the club? NO! We all know what an amazing player and manager he WAS, but clearly it has not worked out this season. Bad tactics and bad players bought!
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be blinded by KD's "Legend" status! We all appreciate what he was done for the club and the people affected by Hillsborough, but football is football, and you are judged by results, not past glory.
Maybe if you and other fans stopped worshiping him then you'll see more clearly. KD is just a man, not God. And just by the excuses he has given in interviews relating to out poor form just shows he is out of touch with football in this era.
He has the guts to mention "Kit deals" when a journy asked him if we are progressing this season!
Spend over £100 Mill on some average players and has broken yet more negative records.
Football is a results game, not past glory.
KD cannot be trusted with more money. Henderson is hopeless. Sterling made more of an impact in 10 mins that Hendo did the whole season.
But don't you worry, winning the magnificent League Cup might have bought your beloved idol more time.
More time = More money wasted on average players.
LOYALTY TO THE CLUB ...NOT LOYALTY TO THE MANAGER...GET IT INTO YOUR HEAD
ReplyDeleteThanks for that Jim. Was not aware of that. I can see a pattern here.....
ReplyDeleteFergie doesn't mention Benitez now (nor Dalglish much), he's got Mancini and the oil money to think about this year.
ReplyDeleteExactly - its not tiredness, but that's what Dalglish said. Stoke had 3 games in 6 days, on day 6 they drew with Man City (who are doing rather ok this season). Liverpool had 3 games in 6 days, on day 6 they lost to Wigan (not the greatest team ever to play at Anfield). Liverpool have much the larger net transfer spending and players wages (pretty good footballing tradition too I've heard). And then the Liverpool manager says his players are 'tired'.
ReplyDeleteDon't agree with you that its belief either - I say the players are pathetic - big time charlies who'll put in a performance when its Man Utd or Everton but couldn't be arsed otherwise. That last phrase could accurately describe Gerrard's entire career but the LFC fans just lap it up.
I recognise it because Man Utd were just like this in the '70s and '80s with Macari and Robson looking like world beaters against Liverpool (e.g. United's record against Liverpool in the '80s is won 8 lost 3) and then looking like they were asleep against Coventry. They did win a few Cups though.
Benitez is a good manager but like any manager he has flaws, and to win a league title you need to gamble and chase the win in games, particularly now that there's 3 points for a win and the points total required is so high over the last 20 years or so with Jack Walker's money, Abramovich's money, Wenger's ability and Ferguson's ability affecting the title chase. Its a different requirement to the Shankly/Busby/Paisley days when a good home record and being hard to beat away would get you into a title challenging position, and Benitez seems to be too cautious to take those kinds of chances in matches (except for that last 2 to 3 months of 08-09 but that was after all the draws and the awful performance against 'Borough ended Liverpool's chance).
ReplyDeleteHowever I reckon that Benitez could do a job again for Liverpool, in fact I would not be surprised to see him back for next season - if Dalglish steps down at the end of season he would leave with his reputation reasonably intact from the LFC fans' point of view (League Cup, back in Europe) and Benitez would then be welcomed back by most fans. He'd have that bit of breathing space at the beginning that Dalglish had when he came in (and that Hodgson didn't get), he's not out of the game that long so he won't be out of touch - he'll probably bring in a few skillful players from the Primera Liga as before (maybe some of the Athletic Bilbao guys) and organise them well. You may not win the league but you won't be losing at home to Blackpool and Wigan (there'll be a few more 0-0 at Anfield though).
Whoever's in charge should get shot of Gerrard though ASAP. Not a team player.
Its time for LFC to put sentimentality to one side and admit for all concerned that Kenny did a great job of unifying the club after the H&G era - but to take the club forward he needs to step aside , The Suarez saga must have taken a toll on the man and I think may have been a real eye opener as to how much the modern player has changed since he was last in top flight management - can you imagine an old school player promising shanks or paisley he'd shake a players hand and then doing the opposite on live TV ? would never happen.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Just saying that Rafa was the ONE person who got under his skin. For 2 or 3 years anyway. So much so he got his drinking buddies like Allardyce to try and unsettle him.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't need to mention Dalglish. Him and Evra sorted THAT particular problem out last October.
Paranoid? Moi?
Maybe Benitez was cautious because he just didn't have complete faith in (some of) the players he had at his disposal? Like he famously said once, "I asked for a sofa, and they bought me a lamp".
ReplyDeleteHe tried to get Alves, Simao, Figo, Heinze, Mata, Silva. He ended up with Josemi, Kromkamp, Deggen, Nunez etc. And STILL he got LFC to semis and finals of the CL.
You're banging your head against a wall, Phil. We're in an age of instant meals, instant gardens, instant bloody replays, instant success. Nobody has the time or the patience to wait (or earn) anything any more. Especially when it's the ultimate fashion accessory: Liverpool FC.
ReplyDeleteIt's the only words they seem to know, Mark. "Deluded" or "apologist".
ReplyDeleteYES sack dalglish and appoint FRANK RIJKAARD plsssssssssssssssss!!!!
ReplyDeleteif kk,dosent drop reina, and carra, for the rest of the season, within the next 2 games,he not able to run this club, wigan had 2 shots 2 gaols,0 corners, lfc,had 5 shots on target, 1 goal ,6 corners, 57% possession , wigan 43%,reverse the stats, same at qpr, last chance saloon kenny.
ReplyDeleteAnd Roy Hodgson is being considered for the post of vacant England manager, while Kenny Dalglish is not?? Is the performance above a reason for the same??
ReplyDeleteRe: 'apologist', we like to keep things simple for you 'apologist' folk
ReplyDeleteYep, its one big conspiracy and mind games(!)
ReplyDeleteOnly one man dedicated a conference to his rival with a sheet of paper and went onto blow the best chance this club had of winning the title in two decades. Downhill since the 'fackts'.
Sounds like it was Ferguson who got under Rafa's skin in the long run.
Rafa, oh why oh did u need to open your mouth
From what I remember, Gerrard had just been arrested. The media were in apoplexy. It seems to me that in his infamous speech Rafa took a lot of heat off Gerrard, as the media suddenly had a new fish to fry.
ReplyDeleteHow very considerate.
ReplyDeleteRemember the Kop ditty, "Sing something simple", Original?
