Line-Up vs. Man United: Ferguson 'surprised' that Bellamy is not starting...

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has made four changes to the team that started against Spurs for today's game against Man United at Old Trafford.

Jose Enrique is fit again so he returns to the side, but Craig Bellamy and Andy Carroll have been dropped to the bench.

FULL TEAM: Reina, Enrique, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Spearing, Gerrard, Henderson, Downing, Kuyt, Suarez.

Subs: Doni, Carragher, Bellamy, Carroll, Adam, Shelvey, Kelly.

A few minutes ago, Man united manager Alex Ferguson told Sky Sports that he was 'surprised' that Bellamy was not starting the game. He's probably as surprised as many Liverpool fans - me included - who thought that Bellamy would be a dead-cert for the game.

Without Bellamy, the team is lacking real pace, which could be a problem during the game.

After the Spurs draw at Anfield, Jordan Henderson admitted that he was 'disappointed' at missing out, but he returns to the side today, probably to be played out of position again on the right of midfield.

Probable formation:

----------------------- Reina

Johnson --------- Agger --- Skrtel --- Enrique

Henderson ----- Spearing --- Gerrard ---- Downing

------------------- Kuyt -- Suarez

With the players starting the game, I would go for the following line-up:

----------------------- Reina

Johnson --------- Agger --- Skrtel --- Enrique

-------------- Spearing ---- Henderson

Kuyt --------------- Gerrard ---- Downing

--------------------- Suarez

Another possibility I would like to see:

----------------------- Reina

Johnson --------- Agger --- Skrtel --- Enrique

Gerrard ------ Spearing --- Henderson --- Downing

----------------- Kuyt ---- Suarez

Anything but Henderson on the right...

  1. Swap kuyt for bellamy and this is probably our best eleven at the moment.....what's happened to maxi ...is he injured?

  2. liverpool holding their own, not bad against UTD, but scholes shows how to play a beautiful long pass, unlike adam's who cannot even pass with the tempo of the game, downing awful he should be substituted as soon as

    ReplyDelete
  3. Downing is now playing on the left and again johnson has made more runs down the right wing trying to make things happen and outshining Downing....i can only see sense bellamy is rested otherwise should be on the left.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Kuyt is outshining downer in every aspect, henderson is running marking doing stuff, but you can't say that about downer

    ReplyDelete
  5. I agree downing as usual offers us nothing...enrique will end up making the runs for him

    ReplyDelete
  6. i'm not sure about that, our left was non-existent so far and enrique has been busy in defence maybe when we get bellamy on it will improve. whenever i see downer going near the ball, brick's words ring in my head "what a usless sh*te that boy is"

  7. Come on kenny change at half time...u have to now take off downing (booked- only contribution) and bring on bellamy, its so f****** obvious!!!!

  8. Great performance up to half time. i know its not the best style but we stuck to our guns and now we can break in the second half. Bellamy will come on for Downing, Adam will come on for henderson and Carroll will come on for Kuyt i reckon.

How good was it seeing Skrtel and Agger walking either side of suarez into the tunnel! Our centrebacks are the best in the league and they are the absolute INFORCERS of the league!

    Come on You Mighty Reds!!!

  10. What an embarassment that Suarez is, I have the admit Ferdinand took the ball....the thing is he is a liability and could have got sent off.....he should come off he cant handle this kind of pressure.

Bellars for Downer I completely agree with you guys

  15. Suarez is a disgrace he could have defused things by shaking evra's hand but no he has to make a point he's a tool.
Downing is terrible and I'm not surprised we are two down

  16. I thought we had a championship player in the team, seriously connor sammon = downer

  17. Would you shake hands with somebody whose accused you of being racist despite no concrete evidence being presented by an incompetent and xenophobic governing body such as the FA ?

    ReplyDelete
  18. The handshake episode is shocking and everybody is slating him for it - he has not thought about the club here - just his own pride... I dont expect him to stay in England very long

  19. Have we really improved under Dalglish...is 7th an improvement.....is 7th was he was brought in to achieve.

The worthless cup will just prove to be a distraction, we will win that and then our deluded fans will celebrate and forget the fact that champions league is what is necessary a 4th season without it is just embarassing...

Look who won it last year....Birmingham lol I swear they have a championship game today!!!!

  21. This has been terrible. We have been so negative its demorolizing. We havent even looked like scoring and we are so slow. we honestly look like our players dont know what the game plan is. Our biggest attacking threat has been Glenn "yes i'm a right back" Johnson. We are miles off where we need to be. This is the worst performance for the season without doubt i thought we had a plan in the first half and we pulled it off but clearly that nagtive plan has killed our passion, drive and hunger for the contest. very dissapointing!!!

just as i was writing this Suarez scores! Charlie Adam should be on all the time.

  23. So rio ferdinand did not shake Suarez's hands. Why is the media so quiet about it...is it because hes part of the shitty england team...i hope Hodgson takes over !

  24. Pz - it appears it was a reaction to Suarez not shaking Evra's hand.

  26. Pathetic 2nd half display now i know why everyone is saying Downing, Henderson waste of money and LFC midfield looked like donkeys on the pitch making carrick and scholes look quick on their feet...after  conceding the goals LFC gave up...yet after scoring the goal there was no desire 2 fight back no celebration pathetic worst display i have ever seen in my life

  27. poor poor poor!! dalglish i don'tknow why u insisted on plauing downing he's just not good enough henderson could of taken a back seat to in my book. Why not start bellamy and sub him for your beloved downing? Dalglish u are upseting me no transfers bad selection i mean when is the last year maxi played? WHATEVER!!!!!

  28. When I see Suarez refuse to shake evra's it makes me think Suarez was the one telling the truth.

  29. I had a strong feeling we would lose this league game. Cup game? No problem. League game? We play like crappy bottom half team. I cannot figure out why!

    ReplyDelete
  30. All it showed me is that Suarez is a tosser lacking in dignity or basic respect for the club. Did Kenny not say in the week that Suarez would shake hands?

    ReplyDelete
  31. PLAY BELLAMY UP FRONT.  He is the most natural goalscorer at the club at the moment which is astonishing when you look at his goals record.  Why can't Kenny see that a Suarez/ Bellamy partnership is the way forward?

Downing?  been saying it since he signed.

To keep things in perspective this team did recently beat Citeh and Utd in one off games, so we are now one of those "on their day they can beat anyone" teams or more accurately a cup team.  Nothing has changed.  We have been incapable of purchasing match winners for ten years,  Kenny's bonfire will be ready and waiting to burn more of our transfer funds in the summer on more 'pass the buck' players.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The difference was not so much in terms of individual players, but our team just isn't playing like a team. Our players always have to search for someone to pass to and no one seems to move till they get the ball. It's no surprise we look like we have no pacy players.

From United's midfield to forward line, every player is supported by a team mate. Our midfielders go for the same ball and can't release the ball forward or sideways comfortably, knowing we've got another player to run onto it. I wonder if it is lack of communication between our players or if indeed they're given too much freedom to play.

This was a game that laid bare exactly how much work still needs to be done if we truly want to put other teams to the sword. We are in desperate need of cohesion and understanding. Manure's attackers can all anticipate what their fellow attackers are going to do and are always ready for it. Our attackers are always caught offguard by one another. When they attack, our entire defence has to chase back. When we attack, they can close our sole attacker down. When they score, it's always someone on blindside. We never have a forward on blindside when attacking 1 flank.

Ever so often, when Enrique is tussling with Valencia, Rooney and Wellbeck were busy making themselves avalable in relation to Valencia, with either Giggs or Evra waiting to receive wider balls. When Downing goes forward, he only has Enrique running OUTSIDE him, no one is wide right and if we have players in the box, they're standing in the middle of defenders, not making themselves available for passes.

It is not finishing ability, skill nor pace our players lack. It is spatial sense, anticipation and sense of timing. Our attackers just don't understand how one another plays.

  33. At one point Man Utds combined age on the pitch was 864!  and we still couldn't near them.

  34. Suarez is thinking about himself not the Club or his Team mates

  35. Check out who was running around the pitch and dancing inches in front of Suarez's face. Then you will know is the tosser. Maximum credit due to Suarez for not knocking the prick out.

  36. As soon as I saw our midfield, I thought very light and inexperienced with henderson and spearing who again proved today they are at best squad players.  After the tunnel bust up, expected liverpool to show more heart in the 2nd half...very very disappointmenting for LFC.  Anyone who says we played will and deserved more luck and all that bollocks should be shot in the head!!  This is not Liverpool standard and if u look at Harry Redknapp... he turned spurs from 18th to 3rd within 3 years!!  No progress in the league which will continue to haunt us...WE'D BETTER WIN ONE OF THE CUPS OR I CAN SEE KK IN A VERY DIFFICULT POSITION COME THE SUMMER!!

  38. suarez is a man of pride a man of principle,a handshake to Suarez means something, years ago a handshake was a bond,it meant more than any signed piece of paper.I think Suarez is too good for English society,England is an absolute disgarcae as a country and as a place for so called justice.Suarez to me is simply a great guy who has beliefs and pride, good on you Louis for not shaking Evras hand,we all saw Evras despicable behaviour at the end running in front of you dancing trying to get a reaction, anyone who sticks up for Evra in my mind hasnt got a mind, hasnt got morals and hasnt got what it takes to see what a handshake means to some people.Your too good for England Luis go away and leave all the plastic personalities to England.

  39. I said a long time ago that we would finish 4th and no this evidence we don't deserve 4th place.
KD should be moved on at the end of the season based on his purchases.
I can take defeat when we have been outplayed and given EVERYTHING.

What concerns me is the manner of the defeat, the poor quality players bought last summer.
This, despite the attempt by KD to create a siege mentality it has not galvanised the players in the squad.
The Clubs reputation HAS been damaged GLOBALLY like it or not.

We have NOT improved since last season DESPITE the fact we had the SINGLE LARGEST INVESTMENT IN ONE SEASON IN 10 YEARS!

I suspect the Fenway Sports Group told KD you can't have any more money in January as you SQUANDERED what we gave you in the summer 2011.
DON'T BE SURPRISED IF KD IS NOT IN CHARGE NEXT SEASON.

I know he loves the club and the club love him back but I just can't see him taking us back to win the Premier League ..and many of you in your heart of hearts KNOW HE'S NOT UP TO IT

  41. Suarez has denied almost all of evra's accusations. If someone lied about me I wouldnt shake his hand again. I couldnt be that two faced. A handshake was origionally to prove you had no weapon and to convey trust, how can you trust a liar? I dont know what happened between them and if evra didnt lie and was still prepared to tell the truth he is the bigger man. But what happened today makes me doubt that.

  43. When did downing go forward, you watching a different game to the rest of us or have you been watching the same video from villas training ground.  The only player who made genuine runs and showed some determination in the opposing box was Johnson.  You're saying the players dont understand how one another plays, then what the hell have they been doing day in day out since August.  Please make some logistical footballing statements rather than some therapeutic gayish comments.  At a time like this alot fans dont wanna hear excuses.  Mark Wright and Roy Evans clearly said that after the half time tunnel bust up, being a REAL MAN with PASSION, you'd come out fighting.  Did not see it and clearly some players are way out of their depth.

  44. Nonsense. "Suarez is a great guy who has beliefs and pride" - I am sorry but if you look at Suarez's track record he does not come across as the angel you are making him out to be with morals and principles.

I like Suarez as a player, I think he has a fantastic football brain that is not complimented by those around him, but his actions today were absolutley stupid - he only thought about himself and not the club - he did not think about LFC but instead put his pride in front of the team which is why I am beggining to understand why J. Kanwar said he may be a liability for this club.

Personally I would cash in on him in the summer, he is not producing the goals and he is tarnishing the reputation of this club.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Agreed, I predicted he would leave LFC for spain in a few years but reckon it will happen sooner

    ReplyDelete
  46. So if you see people who break the Law show no remorse you presume innocence? strange mentality.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Agree Suarez did wrong here. He has massively disappointed dalglish and all lfc fans who were expecting him to move on and show gentlemanly gamesmanship. I wonder if that affected his teammates?

Oh man, I dread the day Gerrard leaves the team. Liverpool needs galvanizing figures like him and less of controversial players like Suarez and Tevez (even if they are great players).

    ReplyDelete
  48. I presume innocence unless there is evidence to show guilt.

    ReplyDelete
  49. really??? so suarez supposed to be all friendly to the guy who single handly made him public enemy number one for the sake of liverpool.... i mean i do understand where u coming from but ask yourself this is that not a bit to much to ask??

  50. I'll defend the club, most of the players, manager but never ever again Suarez. The club is bigger than one man. Superb player but an selfish idiot too

    ReplyDelete
  51.  Exactly you can tell how a snitch Evra is...especially with his provocative display at the end of the game...so much for dignity!

    ReplyDelete
  52. the club is bigger than Suarez. The club comes first.

    ReplyDelete
  53. When did Suarez break the law?
He was trying to be as honnest as he could in front of the media, the mancs then decided to capitalise on the use of the word negrito...

    ReplyDelete
  54. Agree 100%....no use pretending we are what we are not..

.Carroll..Adam..Henderson..downing..kuyt...spearing are not top quality and these are our regular 6 out of 11 who are in the first team....you cannot be a top 4 team where majority of the first team are not of top 4 quality

    ReplyDelete
  55. Did not mention Suarez broke the law, used an example as Hoq indicated that when someone who has been charged with using racist language refuses to acknowledge a customary handshake he presumes they are innocent. I find that odd

Regardless of wether Suarez is / isnt a racist, used language in an offensive way, his actions today are stupid - I support LFC - I do not support Luis Suarez and for me he is damaging the values and image of this great club.

    ReplyDelete
  56. you are missing the point here Hoq - he was charged, all he had to do was shake the hand and not draw attention on himself and concentrate on the game and getting us to win - he thought about himself and his pride and has dented our image further in the eyes of neutrals.

I say it again - I support LFC - not Luis Suarez. I love his ability, I think he is a fantastic player but he should be moved on as he does not fit in with the values of this club.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I repeat he is incapable of putting the Club before himself.

    ReplyDelete
  58. KK said the other day that Suarez would shake Evra's hand.

What does Suarez do huh? He makes all about himself and not the club. Selfish idiot

    ReplyDelete
  59. Paddy - Finally a supporter with some common sense. I think Suarez has great ability, but today he has shown us that it might not be a bad idea to cash in on him - he totally disregarded the need for us to be focused and prove our point on the pitch today.

I have just seen Kenny's interview on Sky's website - very embarassing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. We don't even look a premiership team so Man U won not cause they were good but we were so bad. So I am so angry that the team is turned into this. People keep hounding about Carroll but I will add two others. The number one blame is Kenny to have bought them and when he realises what they are he still plays at the expense of other players who have produced the goods and these players are surely demoralised and as lost as Kenny by now. The main no brainer Kenny insists to field is a player I will not even consider having even for free. I don't think any player's price-tag should be taken into account when fielding or dropping them. The only reason Carroll gets more negative reactions from fans was due to the position he plays so ofcourse he will get the stick when he don't score. But the main BIG PROBLEM is getting away simply cause he is the mix in midfield where he is non existant and that makes us playing a man short everytime he plays and sadly he starts usually. Does anyone realy watches his contribution at all ? A swift and immediate action is required. Start playing pthose who scores and performs like Bellamy and Maxi or anyone. I will sack Kenny . I no longer trust him when he drops those he did well too frequently. He has either tried to justify his purchases with starting the worst player in the league, or squad. I will try to sell immediately olr just send him on loan. Failing to do so I will show Kenny to the door !!! We look like LFC and playing with eleven when Henderson isn't on the field. This may not save the season buit we wil and have looked much better cause we play eleven against eleven. Carroll issue will be addressed after Henderson or Kenny goes. Kenny is trying to be too clever at times or simply refusing to accept he made bad purchases in both Henderson n Carroll both hugely over priced. But so what ! We have good players who have delivered but benched to accomodate the flops !!! First to go - Henderson. Second Kenny and then Caroll >

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well said Paddy THIS is a new low for LFC. I suspect that's why Suarez was not pursued by the Barcelona didn't buy him.
I know that in 2009 Rafa wanted to buy him but there was no money at the same time Barca were scouting Saurez but never moved for him...NOW WE KNOW WHY.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sportsmanship. Gamesmanship = cheating within the rules.

  63. Kenny just go and take that disgrace suarez with you. More pathetic excuses for the two. our beloved lfc is tarnished by suarez and dalglish

    ReplyDelete
  64. NO MANAGER...NO PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN LIVERPOOL FC.
WHEN YOU PLAY FOR LFC YOU MUST RESPECT THE HISTORY AND THE REPUTATION WHICH HAS TAKEN  NEARLY 50 YEARS TO BUILD.

I WILL NOT STAND BY AND WATCH ANY MANAGER OR PLAYER DAMAGE THAT REPUTATION.

AS OF TODAY I WILL NOT SUPPORT ANY PLAYER OR MANAGER THAT DOESN'T PROTECT THAT REPUTATION.

  65. Look i forget about Evra and put it to the back of my mind, then when i saw him today i felt my blood pressure go through the roof and couldnt help myself getting really agitated and angry and letting my feelings known, i had no control its normal.Suarez has had his name dragged through the mud around the world,he has a family who will obviously mean more to him in terms of protecting them from this.Suarez has been helpless, what goes on in a football game and what is said has been going on for years,Suarezs own honesty has been his downfall, come to England but dont speak Spanish just in case a Spanish word is deemed offensive, what a country we live in,I thought China etc were the countires who were told how they had to act,i thought England was a free country.Evras antics at halftime in the tunnel and at the end dancing in front of Suarez should be punished, its upto the individual who they shake hands with, would you shake hands with someone whod wronged you and had you broadcast around the world as though your some sort of monster, even though Evra started it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Why did Dalglish say that Suarez would shake Evra's hand the other day?

Suarez has misled KK and more importantly, the club. Again, selfish idiot. If it was made clear before the game, in pre-match conference, that Suarez wouldn't shake his hand, than there wouldn't be all this hoo-ha.

Suarez has made things worse, much worse than they needed to be with what he did today.

KK said a line has to be drawn under situation the other day and Suarez goes and does this.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I would just ask you this - Look at all the publicity this has created, the numerous articles, pundits / personalities, neutrals who are commenting on this matter, watch Kenny Dalglish's interview with Sky which is frankly embarrising and then ask yourself how is this a good thing for Liverpool Football club and could it have been avoided for the sake of a handshake which has been customary for many years.

Players in the past have done it who have broken each others legs, had fights on the pitch, and yes abused one and another - why cant Luis Suarez?

From the neutrals point of view Evra is the man who should avoid the handshake, like Bridge when it was revealed that Terry was doing his mrs, Suarez needed to understand he was not the aggrieved party here and that he almost had an obligation to shake hands - the media will again have a field day with LFC which has been created by Luis Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  68. IIf Norwich win today...they will be 4 points away from us..thanks Kenny ...the future looks??????

    ReplyDelete
  69. Guys can you tell me why the FA dissipated the handshakes build-up between QPR vs Chelsea and not the Liverpool game? Was it a pledge to protect their beloved Terry from fan abuse. The guy is clearly a RACIST.
Or did Fergie have a hand in there ?

    ReplyDelete
  70. AAnd if sunderland win they'll be three points behind us

    ReplyDelete
  71. well at least arsenal and chelsea are losing so top four is still a possibility

    ReplyDelete
  72. Like i said sometimes you agree to do things then when you meet up with that person maybe the sense of injustice took over and the anger of the last 6 weeks came to the fore, hes human,he came face to face with Evra for the first time and obviously that stirred up emotions which he had no control over, hes human, could you forgive some smirking guy with a handshake after hed made your life a misery for the last 5 weeks

    ReplyDelete
  73. Unbelievable. Prior to the Evra incident Suarez had a reputation in world football - his antics at the World Cup of cheating to block a certain winning goal and then celebrating shamelessley at Gyan's penalty miss is the same thing that you are saying Evra should be punished for is it not? And in addition he was also banned for violent conduct so he had a rep prior to the Evra case.

Your point that it is Suarez's choice - you are right - but just observe all the opinions from pundits / players / neutrals, the media, the public over the next few days, have a browse on how many articles are being written and how much time will be given to this "choice" that Suarez has made and then ask yourself is it worth it and did Suarez act in the interests of the club? Clearly not.

I despise Man Utd, and I highly rate Suarez ability as a footballer, but I have to respect that Evra put his hand out there, and if Luis just shook it, and then also did after the game then we would not be talking about it now - today has shown me that our own fans do not care about the club but care about the individual more and I cant understand that.

    ReplyDelete
  74. There comes a time when enough is enough. Shake the hand, no eye contact and get on with football, that is what I would have done. There has been plenty of time between the original incident and this game, plenty of time for Suarez to cool down.
There is simply no excuse for what he did today, in my view.

    ReplyDelete
  75. take that back think i jinxed it :s

    ReplyDelete
  76. Excuses for what? That is perception. As much as people love using the quality of players for horrible playing, why not horrible play making the players look bad? It is a team sport, and as a team, we were shocking. Downing may not have gotten forward very much in this game, but other games throughout the season. And believe you me, you aren't the only one wondering what the hell they've been doing since August.

2 years ago, 11 Englishmen, excluding subs, faced a German team, and despite playing with passion, still lost 4-1. This is no therapeutic knee jerk reaction to being played off the pitch. Poor luck is an excuse, but surely our sheer amount of home draws and poor goal return since August are no coincidences. I'm also sure you meant logical. The bus got them there on time, there couldn't have been an issue with logistics.

It is lazy and either ignorance or feeble mindedness to allow popular media to convince us to blame the players for a lack of quality, especially when it is very clear to see that aside from the defence, our other outfield players do not know where to play the ball. Luis Suarez did the right thing in releasing the ball to his right without looking towards the end of this particular game, but lo and behold, there was no one there. I am also certain I'm not the only one who notices an alarming rate of backward passes from Adam and Henderson throughout the season. Why do they keep passing backwards? Why does Gerrard have to pause so long before hitting a pass? Or Enrique and Bellamy for that matter when they are out wide? We've gotten away ever so often against teams that couldn't deal with the individual quality of our players, and indeed, if United were just to count on player quality alone, they would not have looked so dangerous or put 2 past us so easily, especially their second goal.

If you have actually been watching all of our matches and all of United's this season, you must surely notice how they make their attacks count and how we almost never do so, even if we keep the ball for long spells. Their superior conversion comes predominantly from having players in the right place at the right time. By contrast, no matter how quickly we bring the ball up, it is always down to a moment of individual brilliance or a mistake from our opponents that gives us our goals. Like Spurs, we have players that look individually dangerous in some games, but as a team, our attacks look typically harmless. This wasn't the only game we didn't look like we were going to score.

Must someone be blamed for something? Is there only a problem when we are beaten by United? This won't be the last game this season our attacks lack fluency and until our players start attacking as a cohesive unit, we can expect never only having to beat the keeper. We cannot pretend this doesn't matter when we win and then blame someone when we lose. I can confidently say we boast a better collection of players than Man U, but their teamwork is par excellence, ours only applies to our defenders.

    ReplyDelete
  77. He was going to shake Evra's hand, but Evra lowered his hand. Suarez must have thought Evra didn't want to shake his hand and therefore gave him a miss. Go look at the video. Evra's hand was up for everyone else before Suarez, and he was deliberately tentative when it got to Suarez. Does this mean Suarez had to pause to ensure he shook Evra's hand? Evra was out to make him look like an idiot.
