A couple of weeks ago, Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson claimed on BBC Radio 5 that the deal to bring Darren Bent to Anfield was 'done', and despite several strong denials from Aston Villa, the rumours about the prolific goalscorer just won't go away. Transfer speculation can sometimes unsettle players, but Villa winger Gabriel Agbonlahor insists this is not the case with Bent.
Speaking to the official Aston Villa club website, Agbonlahor said:
"Liverpool are maybe looking for another striker with Luis Suarez banned so top-quality players are going to be linked with them.
"To be fair to Darren, he's just got on with his football, got another goal last week, and all he can do is concentrate on his games here.
"It's crazy the number of transfer rumours you see. If you listen to rumours, we'd be buying 10 players"
I would still love to see Bent at Anfield, and I hope Lawro's 'massive rumours' come true. It's quite simple: Liverpool need goals; Bent guarantees goals, and has done for his entire top-flight career. That's all that matters.
KEY POINTS
* Scores of creates a goal every 1.8 games, which is the same ratio as Luis Suarez.
* Guarantees an average of 18 goals a season.
* Majority of goals from open play.
* This season, Bent has scored more goals than both Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez despite playing less games.
* Average conversion rate of 21%, which is much better than Suarez (7.2%) and Carroll (5.2%)
* In 2009-10, Bent scored 24 league goals for Sunderland. Imagine what he could do playing alongside superior quality players at Liverpool.

The pressure at liverpool is huge and i don't think Bent can handle it , same as Downing and carroll and also Keane before .. we need to learn from out mistakes the last summer , stats is not enough ..
ReplyDeleteGet a life you Scouse prick, you aren't a top club anymore and won't be now Spurs and City have eclipsed you .... Europa League is all you can dream of and a few good cup runs.
ReplyDeleteI don't want Bent anywhere near Liverpool specially with that kind of price tag. If his price was 10-12m then he would have been great signing but 18-25m is just insane.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see him at Anfield. How he can't hack a big club like Liverpool is beyond me. What will he not he able to handle? Plenty of chances to score? Are the goals smaller at Anfield? Does he have to wear boots made of brick? I don't get it. As for the price, who cares? It's not our money. At least we know he can finish and has erm doing it consistent or years. Just because Sow or Remy score regularly abroad or on FIFA it doesn't mean they will over here.
ReplyDeleteSuperior players??....remind me how many assits Ratboy has for you?
ReplyDeletemaybe the last peice of the jig saw. Bent would be a great addition to liverpool, he provides goals no matter what team he plays for and he will do it for liverpool. it is what liverpool need during the run in to get 4th spot.
ReplyDeleteNo more British players please!
ReplyDeleteNo more British players please!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I need cheering up i only have to look at Liverpool fans comments. Bent overpriced - so Carroll was a bargain at £35... Ur not a big club anymore. Ur 7th in the league and again won't be anywhere near the champions league!!
ReplyDeleteMight as well support ur local clubs now

Hasn't any idiot yet realized that all this "to stand in etc etc for Suarez" is a load of tosh? simply because Suarez will be back in a couple of weeks anyway! Talking of "tosh" that sums up Bent admirably...
ReplyDeleteDear God.
ReplyDeletePlease don't make this happen.

Just like to add that Agbonlahor has 8% more shots on target but is only 4% less deadly with 18% convertion rate Bent is actually 22% from the Villa stat page not 21%. Although Gabby never gets played as a striker simply because we have a defensive minded manager. Coming from a Villa player you can have Bent simply to see Agbonlahor get his chance as a lone striker again who in my eyes is a better forward than Bent who makes most of his goals from tap ins. Gabby has pace, can cross the ball, has a decent pass and can curl it into the back of the net and also works a lot harder for the team and actually breaks a sweat. Bent could learn from the committed Villa player.
ReplyDeleteYou are aware that the anlalysis in the article is for Bent's career from 2002 until now, not just for Villa, right?
ReplyDeleteWho are you........Oh yes an idiot......Why seconded guess what people think and are you saying that most Liverpool fans are not from Liverpool.....Wow your deep man.....!
ReplyDeleteI'm with RyanW46 - very good at making himself look good not the team.
ReplyDeleteNo thanks
Darren Bent would fit in at Liverpool very well maybe the striker we need to wear our number 10 jersey.Darren Bent and Craig Bellamy goals YNWA.
ReplyDeleteits simple with this. liverpool need goals, bent scores them so what is the problem? liverpool have always had a person who can pop up and score, they hover around the area and finish off great moves. this year we have attacked and created a massive amount of chances but lacked the rushie, fowler to finish it off. Bent pops up and grabs goals, he has done this consitently for lesser teams who do not have the amount of chances liverpool do. If he can do it for these clubs then under the service and current chances per game liverpool have, why cant he get even more goals??
ReplyDeleteThe stats is liverpool is way better than newcastle in making chances. What i am saying, with carrol at newcastle he bags lots of goals...but when come to liverpool he's lost. Yet, i still prefer bent over carrol as bent has good mobility and phase. So if bent is to come to LFC, he's very welcomed!! but to be priced in excess of 20m..4get it, he's in d range of 15-18m.
ReplyDeleteWhereas the figures fir Suarez & Carroll are for the last 12 months?
ReplyDeleteSo, Bent has scored more than Carroll and Suarez this season... big whoop. Suarez has been dreadful in front of goal.
You're aware that our top scorer is Bellamy? We're creating chances and not putting them away. Have a look at the top scorers in the EPL. They are nearing 20 already, and we are creating as many chances as they are.
An onsong Torres is the answer and I can't help feeling his drought is unrelated to football - problems with his head, domestic problems (wife or kids, family back home) or he's just not 'at home' away from Liverpool. By this point last season, the misfiring Nando still had scored as many as any two of our current strikers have combined with a much less attack minded team approach and he missed a few games as well. Right up to the point he left he was still scoring goals for us. His record SINCE he left has divebombed for whatever reason. You may find that Nando was our top scorer last season or certainly in the top two.
Come the summer, if he's up for grabs and we have a couple of trophies in the bag, and who knows CL footie, I'd be inclined to see what can be done and I'd send Kenny to look into it, NOT Commolli.
good words dixie...we need a goalscorer and we need him nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...ynwa
