Over the last few weeks, several youngsters have undertaken football trials in Liverpool, including Swedish midfielder Gustav Engva; Ghana youth midfielder Mumuni Abubakar, and Swedish teenager Abdul Aziz, who had to cut short his trial due to illness. Now, the club is taking a look at another Scandinavian prospect, a central defender from Norway.
The player in question is Jakob Glesnes, a 17 year-old centre-half who currently plays for Lov Ham (which translates as 'West Ham') in Norway's Adeccoligaen, the second highest football level in the country.
Glesnes had a trial with Arsenal last year but, so far, nothing has come of it. Ahead of his trial at Liverpool, Glesnes told Norway newspaper Adresseavisen:
"I regard it as an opportunity to get a good week's training. I want to learn some things, show what I can do and return with some good experience."
Nordic defenders have served Liverpool well over the years, with the likes of Glenn Hysen, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Veggard Heggem, Stig Inge Bjornebye, Sami Hyypia, Daniel Agger and John Arne Riise all doing well for the club.
Yes, I include Bjornebye in that group - for some reason, he gets a bad rap from fans but in my view, he was excellent for Liverpool, and was regularly the club's top assist-maker.
* Of course, I'm joking about Kvarme (!)

ReplyDeletei wouldnt say he was excellent for liverpool, I remeber standingon the kop, think it was early 1993 watching the left side of liverpool in stig inge a bil-a-bong and crazy step over mark walters. no wonder we where a terrible side, but to be fair they where also good days, it was £5 quid to get in the kop and the atmosphere was amazing!!
