JELAVIC: "Liverpool is a big club but I don't know if the rumour is true"

Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic has been linked with a move to England for a couple of months now, but is there any substance to the persistent rumours? Not according to the man himself.

Speaking to Croatian website Slobodna Dalmacija, Jelavic acknowledged speculation linking him with Liverpool, but made it clear that he is happy to stay at Rangers:

"Liverpool is a big club and anybody would like to play at Anfield but I'm just trying to stay focused on my game.

"It is nice to see your name being linked with that kind of club, but I don't know if the rumour is true.

"Every day I read in the papers that some new club is coming to get me but it's funny as I don't know anything about it.So I don't mind if a day passes without me looking at the papers. I just want to stay focused for Rangers"

Jelavic - who has scored 55 goals in the last three season - also indicated that he would be open to move, but only if Rangers needed the money:

"I love it in Glasgow. I'm contracted here for another two-and-a-half years, but, if the club were to sell me to get the money they need, then that would suit me too."

Clearly, the door is open for a transfer, but will LFC make a move? I hope so.

  1. They are talking about £15 million now though, no chance for a SPL striker!

  2. Liverpool has done themselves a big harm by paying £35 million for Carroll.
We gained an impression of over-payers.

Since then, nothing comes cheap to Liverpool.  Comolli is responsible for a number of sense-less transfers.

Indeed he is! Such as Kolo Toure and Gael Clichy to Arsenal, Berbatov, Adel Taarabt, Kevin Prince Boateng, Gareth Bale and Luka Modric to Spurs. Toure and Clichy have since gone to Man City, Taarabt is being monitored by top clubs around Europe, Boateng is doing brilliantly at AC Milan and we know all about Bale and Modric. Berbatov did brilliantly for Spurs, but none of these other players did particularly well in their first full seasons.
