Wing starlet admits: I'm glad I left Liverpool FC...

Former Liverpool youth player Thomas Ince has revealed that he has no regrets about leaving Anfield to join Blackpool in the summer.

Ince, who is the son of ex-Liverpool captain Paul Ince, was offered a contract to stay at Anfield, but decided that a move to a different club would increase his chances of first-team football. Ince Jr. told The Guardian:

"A lot of players would be scared about leaving a club like Liverpool

"It would have been very easy to stay but I just couldn't get away from the thought that I was 19 and wanted to get out and play regular football.

"I didn't want to get to 21 and still be playing reserve-team football.

"I was impatient to be playing and Ian Holloway was on the phone telling me I could be an important part of his team."

The 19 year old has made 11 appearances for Blackpool this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

To be honest, he probably made the right decision as I doubt he would've got 11 games at Liverpool this season.

  1. Plus it was, at least in part, money motivated. Remember Paul Ince sticking his oar in saying the contract offer Liverpool made to his son was "derisory". I'm sure he would have stuck around for a few thousand more...

But good on the lad for being a realist; he knew he wasn't going to get a game and moved on. Let's face it, if he was that good we would have upped the offer, or another Prem club would have come in for him.

  2. tbh i liked Ince and thought he had a promising future at our club but hes comments actually make me think that he lacks ambition and doubts he's own abilities of being able to break into our team. look at jay spearing, a couple of successful loan moves and then came back and has shown he deserves to be a part of the squad Unfortuanatly ince wont get the same management at a club like blackpool which could stunt his development and mean he never becomes the player that he could of became at anfield. i also think he was seriously worried that he wasnt a better player than raheem sterling and worried about him. still i wish him the best of luck at blackpool and prehaps we will see him again in the premier league one day.ynwa

  3. Speaking of youngsters and Blackpool, I thought Jonjo did a great job for us on his first league start. All his game was missing was a goal. He's only short of a little more composure and experience to fill Gerrard's boots, but he does have a remarkably similar game, with his surges into the box, his positioning and his Hollywood passes. It was a very accurate diagonal from one flank to the other for Bellamy, who demands high quality service. Fantastic link up with Adam, Johnson and Suarez too. It was a great opportunity to see both him and Henderson side by side in central midfield. Very contrasting styles in terms of their passing choices and movement in relation to the ball. Hendo moves better with the ball where Jonjo moves better without - reinforcing the case for Hendo out wide. Jonjo has remarkable awareness of where everyone is on the pitch, something that can't easily be taught. For me, he definitely edges Hendo as he is 2 years younger, played less first team minutes, but is significantly more confident in his play. It would be a real treat however, to see them together more. Both players have all the ball tricks that they haven't quite incorporated effectively into their game yet. I'd imagine in their prime, both will be very stylish footballers.

  4. I dont have faith in the 2 Inces. nothing to be proud of. I think Lucas a far better than the senior Ince.

  6. good post.  Jonjo and Henderson looked good.  The passing last night was slick and Villa were the worst side we have played all season, but the boys took apart with ease what was in front of them.

Three points I'd like to add.  1) The partnership of Skrtel and Agger has rejuvenated everyone in that back four.  All of a sudden Glen Johnson looks like a player with freedom, not only offensively but defensively.  Without Carragher constantly screaming instructions at those around him and quite possibly unnerving them there is a calmness and composure to our back four that we haven't seen for two or three years.  Johnson's interceptions last night were top draw.

    2)  Downing looked dangerous down the right and should never EVER be played on the left again because history has proved beyond any reasonable doubt that he can't.

    3) Luis Suarez is a post and crossbar superstar.  He really needs to start passing the ball into the net ala Henry. His chipped efort was sublime but like an earlier poster mentioned surely bad luck doesn't last this long.  Another thing I learned about Suarez is he is definitely at his best with someone playing off him..What a fantastic leader of the line....Carroll's days are well and truly numbered.

  7. Ince was an exciting prospect and should of been given a chance in the second half of last season like when Robinson,Flanagan and Shelvey were given chances we needed a wingers blooding, he might have signed a contract then giving him a taste of first team football Bruna was moved onto Blackpool as well another player with ability.

  8. yet another pointless article by the plonker jaimie himself. how many of these do you write a day? do me a favour and stop clogging up everyones newsnow with your made up stories. i know paul ince and all of his family, and when lfc signed him up there was trouble because houllier and thomo didnt want to sign him because they were trying to flog ince at the time. and all he wanted was for his son to play for lfc as he loved the place and the club. and dont worry about ambition as he is full of it hense the reason hes dropped down a league to play fist team football. think you just need to me a girl and stop writing rubbish

  11. Please explain how this article is 'fabricated'.

  12. Surely all about the cash. He could have stayed with LFC and would have been given the chance to get first team action on loan at clubs like Blackpool.

  13. Stupid post,To say Lucas is better than Paul Ince is just plain derisory."Liverpool fans are the most knwledgable fans in the game...." Are we hell

  14. Incidentally, Suarez will need a partner who plays like Fernando Morientes used to, although it didn't work out for us at the time, because we never had someone like Suarez back then and Kuyt and Bellamy only arrived after Morientes was shipped out.

Disagree about Downing though. He is a left footer and should be played on the left if we need width from our wingers, which we currently don't. He's better on the right because he cuts in more, something so-called wingers get criticised for doing under Rafa. I think it depends on what we're trying to achieve.

Good call on Agger and Skrtel! Without Carra, our backline is speedy, and with just 1 person, Reina, barking the orders, there is certainly less confusion. I'd say Johnson's comfort at the back would be largely down to Kenny though, and the fact that he's been with us 2 seasons now.

  15. Spearing has been around for yeeeears though! Any talented kid would be an idiot to sit around in our reserves with Spearing as their example!

I liked Ince too (tbh I prefered him to Sterling but keep that a little secret...) but he was right to move on at the earliest opportunity. We've had much bigger talents than Spearing (or Ince) that have seen their careers hit the wayside after spending years wasting away in our reserves.

If looking for precedent, the likes of Nemeth, Pacheco, Plessis etc are probably more illustrative to kids than hoping to emulate Spearing's years on the fringes.

  16. I still don't understand how Robinson and Flanagan were the ones plucked from that reserve team for opportunities with the first team. I couldn't remember those guys standing out in a single game with the reserves, whereas the likes of Suso, Coady, Pacheco, Sterling, Ngoo etc had all been crying out for opportunities at various times.

And I know that injuries opened up spaces at full back, but there were injuries and severe dips in form further upfield that failed to see the more talented kids promoted...

  17. Teams are more likely to invest time in their own youth prospects than those that are on loan. Players need first time football to develop and Ince clearly wasn't going to get that at Liverpool so he was right to move on as far as I'm concerned
