Kenny DALGLISH: "He's had a bad week, so we had to take him off..."

Kenny Dalglish was delighted with Liverpool's deserved victory over Aston Villa earlier today but after the game, he made a point of indirectly criticising into the FA over the continued delays relating to the Luis Suarez-Patrice Evra race row.

Liverpool ran out comfortable winners at Villa Park, and Kenny was keen to reiterate the superb team ethic at the club:

"I think it was well deserved three points for us. We defended as a team and went forward as a team.

"Our boys are really a team in the best sense of the word".

Dalglish couldn't hide his irritation with the FA though, and hinted that the ongoing Evra saga may be having an adverse effect on star striker Luis Suarez:

"Luis has had a bad week. He's been sat in a hotel for three days, so that's why we had to take him off early.

"He only trained Tuesday and Saturday, so for him to put in a performance like that was unbelievable, and I think he deserved to be rested for the last twenty minutes"

Dalglish refused to be drawn any further on the FA's handling of the situation:

"I cannot comment on that. We don't want to prejudice anything. We've been respectful all the way through and wouldn't want to be accused of losing that respect at this stage".

  2. Once again poor finishing - we should have won 5 - 0 !
Luis is brilliant but he aint the most clinical finisher - we do require one of these in order to make it into the top 4 or higher..
Failure to kill off these teams when we are creating so many chances cannot be attributed just to "bad luck" as KD keeps saying.. It may be bad luck if it happens in one game out of 10, but this is happening in EVERY GAME..
Thats just poor finishing, not bad luck.
    Need to improve ,....
Carrol was just diabolical when he came on .. poor movement, ,, poor ball control ,, poor passing..
He just does NOT fit into the LIVERPOOL way of playing ..
When hes on we try to long ball to him - he flicks it on .. and its usually lost .. ThaTS NOT how LFC play!!
Why was he bought in the first place..???
Questions need to be asked - and people need to be held responsible..
If he was picked up for 5-7 million fair enough,, one could argue that he is still young - and needs time - then loan him out !!
But at 35 million - you expect a fully top notch International TOP Quality Goal Scorer ala Aguero.. (actually why was he not bought with the 50 million ??? 38 million + use the rest for his salary for the next few years!).

Poor judgement and decision making - im sorry to say - based on half an EPL season in which Newcastle would bomb the long balls forward and he was banging them in i must admit - BUT liverpool dont play like that - we didnt even have any wingers when he was bought,,and then when we did buy Downing, and he is getting good crosses in , He is not putting them away..

You cant keep defending him KD and keep saying we bough him for 15 million less than Torres- it doesnt work like that!! He cost 35 million -its as simple as that .. No one forced you to spend that money .. Why not just keep it in the bank until the summer and spend it wisely ... on Aguero or someone similar WHO IS A PROVEN TOP NOTCH GOALSCORER OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL.. that is what 35-40 million CAN BUY YOU (its proven)

Yes good win, and yes the team is playing well BUT we wont finish top 4 unless we have the 35 million goalscorer who can bang in 25+ goals per year - just wont happen.

  4. Its true that we could have scored more goals, suarez could've had a brace, but taking positives from the game, we could say we were hardly threatened, so we are heading in the right direction, maybe we need to sign a striker and a dribbling pacy winger in Jan. but overall the team looks solid.

  5. I feel really sorry for young Andy Carroll.  He gets maybe 10 minutes every other game and then he's expected to come out and perform like an Aguero or a Drogba.  Fans should be realistic and if a mistake was make in buying him, well, it's too late now - we've got him and slating him week in week out is not going to help him or the team.  Instead of constantly banging on about his price tage, we should be encouraging him & backing him to come good.

  6. Wait until the lad gets a run of games back to back, then you will the best of him. As for keeping the money in the bank until summer, the FIFA Fiancial Fair Play rules kicked in during the summer but in jan the money we spent didnt count, hence why it was important to use the money in jan and not wait.

  7. He is not expected to score but fans watch his efforts and style of play. Look at any tall striker(Dzeko, van persie, Ba), they grab volleys and half-volleys to shoot on target in fraction of a second. Carroll kicks it back to mid-fielders or straight into the legs of defenders. Ball control is so terrible even a child can control it better than Carroll.

  8. I've never really mentioned his price-tag. I mean, he's obviously not worth HALF what we paid for him, but 'the money' doesn't really effect the fans so why should we care? The only way it could conceivably have been bad for the fans would have been if we'd missed out because the management had considered spending that money on someone else at the time but we chose to spend it on Carroll instead. You'd have to say that it didn't look as though Kenny had envisaged spending that money any other way, so let's just ignore the 'money' thing. We might have waited until the summer, but there you go.

No, I've always been far more concerned with the fact that Andy's never been fast enough, talented enough, nor does he have a strong enough character to be the world-class, consistent goal-scorer that the role of 'Liverpool centre-forward' requires.

This 'he needs a run of games' line that always seems to be pushed out by people (who also seem to have a perverse lust for the words 'Young Andy' too by the way) is a fair comment but seems to be an option that Kenny is no longer considering, and I'm personally glad about that if I'm honest. Why should we hold back the entire team in order to risk valuable points in order to accommodate someone who drastically upsets the rhythm, coordination and balance of our play?

This 'run of games' that Andy Carroll needs to hit form anywhere even resembling what Craig Bellamy or Maxi Rodriguez can offer us could be anywhere between 5 and 12 matches. How, in the name of Jesus, can we expected to risk that many points?!

  9. Don't speak too soon about Lucas. Liverpool beat a very poor Villa side yesterday.

  10. its so frustrating that ppl still harp on about Caroll's price-tag, without understanding WHY he was bought for £35 million.

ALL of that £35mil we paid was Chelsea's money - in fact the sale price of Torres was reliant on the price Newcastle wanted for Carroll. We told Chelsea that Torres would cost whatever Newcastle wanted for Carroll plus 15 million. If Newcastle wanted £60 million for Carroll, then we would have asked £75 million from Chelsea, if Newcastle wanted £15million for Carroll, we would have sold Torres for £30 million, and so forthStop going on about his price-tag - it wasnt our money that paid for him! Secondly, give the dude some time! Remember how you all bad-mouthed Lucas for his first year or so - and now he is the best defensive midfielder in the EPL, one of our most important players!
