Liverpool 'enter the race' for Scottish U21 starlet...

According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool are allegedly interested in signing Dundee United and Scottish under-21 midfielder Scot Allen

The Mail's article, which doesn't have any quotes or credible sources, states:

"Sportsmail can reveal that Kenny Dalglish hopes to fend off competition from the Ibrox side, Celtic and West Brom for the Scotland Under-21 cap.

"The Baggies have already had a £400,000 bid accepted by the Tannadice club, but Allan's future remains up in the air".

Rangers are definitely interested in Allen, as manager Ally McCoist confirmed in an interview with the Daily Record on Friday:

"It’s obviously my belief that Rangers would be the right choice [for Allen] but if you’re interested in things other than winning trophies then there are certainly other places you can go.

"It’s a reflection of where we are today that when the Old Firm go to talk to a signing target it can be a hard sell."

Former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson confirmed three days ago that West Brom are in talks with the player:

"I know Dan Ashworth [Albion technical and sporting director] has been in talks with Dundee United and we have followed the player.

"Last I heard talks are going well. Dan likes the player and thinks he has got an interesting future.

"He is not a player we've discussed in first team terms, to improve the first team straight away. He will need some time"

The Mail story sounds like baseless speculation to me, but what else is new.
