MIDFIELDER slams 'stupid and unprofessional' Suarez...

Former Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage has blasted Luis Suarez for getting caught on camera making a gesture to Fulham fans, but he has also defended the Liverpool striker over the 'crazy' charge handed down by the FA.

In his weekly column, Savage was his usual blunt self:

"The FA charge against Luis Suarez for raising a finger to Fulham supporters is crazy.

"I don't particularly like what Suarez did and in an age when your every move is caught on camera, it was stupid and unprofessional, but spare me all the guff about footballers setting a bad example.

"Fans can't argue that they pay good money for the right to vent their spleens and then go crying when they get a little bit of their own medicine back"

Savage also admitted to giving abusive fans the V-sign during his career:

"I usually gave the abusers a sly V-sign back. It's not something I'm proud of but I can't say I ever lost sleep over it"

As much as I agree with Savage, Suarez needs to be smarter on the field; he brought this situation on himself by making a gesture in full view of thousands of people and hundreds of cameras.

Suarez needs more self-control, and if he doesn't mature in that respect soon, Liverpool will be regularly embroiled in these pointless, distracting disciplinary spats.

  1. Doubt the charge will stick. Double standards anyone?

  2. Personally, I'm glad that Suarez' behaviour has brought the hypocrisy of the FA out into the public. I don't agree with what he did; but Dalglish oozing pure class is something I'll never get enough of!

  3. I hate this bloody savage, as the name suggests he is a savage. He is light years behind Suarez and is always a sour grape.

  4. He defended Suarez overall though...

  5. Again the article trying to be objective and trying not to be favourable for LFC and if we want all that then go and visit other sites. I will say your articles do provoke opinion which is the main objective. I can agree some LFC fans are too defensive and show blind faith at times defending the indefensible but your articles are starting to get me angry.
Suarez is 23 years old, has moved to a new country and in his first 6 months adapted with ease, showing us we have signed a truely world class player. We know he has had his Disciplinary issues(Banned for 9 games at Ajax for biting an opponent) so obviously he will come with some baggage but that fighting attitude adds to his qualities.
Yes he is petulant and goes over too easily but does anyone else think Suarez is a victim here. Since we have played Man Utd and Everton this season, Plonky Red nose Ferguson and Rubber head Moyes accused Suarez of Diving(Cheating), ever since he has been booed and called a cheat at every away ground.
Has his behaviour been any different to that of last season, they both knew we have got one hell of a player so have played the mind games to target him and now he is the victim.
As for sorting out his self control, some players play at their best when on the edge, I DO NOT want Suarez to change one bit because I LOVE him and would not swap him with anyone(In the premier league that is!!!!!)

  6. Disliked Savage as a player, but I do not mind a bit of brutal honesty and for me there is nothing wrong with his view - he is an ex player who understands how players feel.

Suarez has had the pressure of this race charge hanging over him, he is not scoring, we had lost the game, he was called a cheat all night, and the ref carried a conception of him into the game fuelled by the likes of Alex Ferguson and Paul Scharner - his reaction may have not been proffesional but you can understand (not condone) it.

I hope that KD can get him to vent that frustration and anger at the opposition, because I think fans, players, managers will use what they can to unsettle him - he just needs to ignore it and the best way to give them the finger is by putting the ball in the back of the net

  9. Why should I try not to be objective? is that a crime? If you want sites that display blatant bias towards Liverpool there are plenty of them out there.

  10. savage is honest in his opinions, but not always right, suarez is a good player, but i cant find myself liking him because of his act of racism toward evra,we should keep that out of football,we have to remember that kids watch and imulate, these players, and kids of different ethnic backgrounds and colour, admire these players, what ever the players  ethnic backgrounds and colour, thats why they should think about what they do and say,and do.

  11. I get the feeling the FA see Suarez has a problem and are trying to bully him out of the Premier League .

  12. I was about to jump at Savage when I saw the title of this article (a little misleading from Jamie's side, but I guess it did catch my attention), however having read his full comment I have to agree with him on both points (FA's action is over the top - and the gesture by Luis was totally unnecessary)

  13. Although I disagree with Jamie on several occasions (but not on this particular issue), putting points up for debate (and attracting some traffic to the website) is no crime and   should in fact be commended.

  14. Too quick on the draw - "... should in fact be commended for generating healthy discussions among the Liverpool fanbase."

  15. Neil Warnock has come out in support of Suarez and other players and managers who are abused by fans in the ground.
He also did an interview a few weeks ago highlighting the abuse players get from fans should get locked up.

  16. Savage enjoyed winding up the crowd and the opposition, where has Suarez is just playing football and feels he has been fouled and goes down and in Europe South America he would get the free kick or penalty.

  17. I do not expect anyone to show Bias or treat LFC any differently to anyone else. You're right, there is no crime in being objective but you often borderline towards negative and then use the excuse it is you are not Biased. You are entitled to your opinions and in fairness your articles do attract meaningful debate and banter.

  18. I am realistic and constructively critical; that is not being negative. That is what this site is all about. When you read something that doesn't conform to your expectations as a Liverpool fan, you label it 'negative'.

  19. A red card is just round the corner for Suarez.  After his 1st one we will see the real Suarez and I'm quite sure a few more red cards will follow in quick succession.  The first time I saw him scream at a linesman I thought "I, I" and as the weeks have gone by those screams have become more and more aggressive.

It is nearly always the case that great natural ability and a suspect temperament go hand in hand.  I can't see stifling his natural inclinations will have a positive effect on his game so as defeatist as it sounds we have to accept the rough with the smooth.

  20. Fergie, I have no doubt, has seen Suarez bite a player on the pitch.

Bite a man = Suspect temperament.

Fergie set the wheels in motion for Suarezs' inevitable and eventual semi self destruction.  Things will get worse before they get better but a leopard rarely changes its spots.  When Cantona came to play in England the whole of France knew he was a loose cannon and it took a year or two before the big frenchman felt settled enough in England to be himself.  A kung fu kick later and the French were saying in union "right on schedule, that train is never late".  It will be interesting to see what a former "biter" like Suarez gets up to under the intense Liverpool spotlight in the coming years.  Suarez is our Di Canio/ Cantona lets enjoy the Roller coaster.

  21. Hear managers are coming out in support of Kenny and his views on the FA and their review system!!!!!!!

  22. 'can't find yourself liking him becase of hhis act of racism'? There is absolutely no 'evidence' of racism; all we have heard is nothing more than hearsay - & you don't even appear to be awae of the allegations; never mind accusing him of racism

  23. FA are under-fire from lots of managers now.  Seeking to reduce Rooney's ban for violent behaviour just exposes them as hypocrites.

As for Suarez.  Here's the rub - he gets a fine or ban but the fans that taunt him for 45 minutes get nothing.

As for being a diver - after 20 odd EPL games he is yet to be booked for diving.

Overall, football is a 21st global mega-business that is governed by technology or lack there-off that hasn't changed since the games inception in the 19th century.

Dalglish using a DVD the other day exposes this gross inadequacy. Bet he isn't the last manager to do it.

Winds of change are blowing against the football governing establishment at home and internationally.

Bottom line is that the woeful refereeing and woeful decisions made off the pitch won't be tolerated by fans, clubs, owners, sponsors and national teams much longer.

Or maybe I am too optimistic.

    (PS Savage is a rent-a-quote gobsh**e.)

  25. Might be a good thing to let Suarez sit out for a couple of games...

  26. it may have been un-necessary but i can guarantee that 95% of people in the same position would do what he has done

  27. He is always given stick for what he does. When he went on a barren run people are blaming him for the lack of goals. He's handling himself great, even with outside football elements aimed at him. Get another forward to work with him. He loves those one touch passes. Him and Rodriguez were great together at times. His performances shouldn't have people blaming him, unless he has missed blatant chances (not many to count). The real culprit is Carroll. I am not from the same boat of haters that hated Lucas because i always had faith in Lucas because of what he did at a young age in Brazil, even if I didn't expect him to be converted to a holding midfielder player (one of the best too). Suarez has tried to play Carroll many times this season and the other player has produced an epic fail. Carroll is young, yes, but through out 90 mins, how many instances has he produced. There is a reason why he is on the bench, and I don't understand why some pundits out there say 35 million on the bench is a waste. Stop looking at the price tag I say. If you are good enough to play "every minute" on the pitch then that outweighs any pricetag. We need a striker with more movement, invention and a good boot on goal. I hope it gets done.

Savage does not slam Suarez btw. Even I can say it was immature to finger fans. But the fact that he got charged makes it ridiculous. Because of that these fans that chant are a disgrace. And they deserved the finger.
