"The FA should be APPLAUDED for its actions over Luis Suarez..."

Shaka Hislop, the Honorary President of anti-racism education charity 'Show Racism the Red Card' has admitted that he was surprised by the length of the ban imposed by the FA on Luis Suarez, but overall, he's pleased with the response of English football's governing body.

Speaking to ESPN, Hislop - who was one of the very first footballers to donate to the campaign - argued:

"For some time, we in football have been calling for the authorities to act a little bit stronger in terms of racism on the pitch, but even so, I wasn't expecting as much as 8 games.

"4 games was the least Suarez could expect; I thought 6 would've been about right; 8, I didn't see coming.

"There were some circumstances around the charge that didn't help Suarez...then there was the comments from Sepp Blatter, which were universally slammed within the game, which I think sent a message to the FA that they needed to send a strong message to football.

"It makes me feel really good about the direction the game is going, and I think the FA should be applauded for its actions.

"The English FA are showing that they're leading the charge in terms of how the game is run, and the message that it sends to its fans".

  1. Are they leading the war against Racism? Or have they picked on a mixed race man from South America if they were leading the fight against Racism why haven't more players been charged with Racism or are the FA just like FIFA and don't think it happens?

  2. I agree, if there is evidence of racism. But all I have seen thus far is political correction gone too far.

Only evidence I have seen one person's word against another.  This could be libellous if unfounded.

  3. So charge Evra and Terry then if they have got the balls....nah, they just apply rules as they see fit. Liverpool should have 'donated' some money to FA first before the decision was made.

    ReplyDelete
  4. According to the statement from the club, Evra also admitted to using similar offensive language, if so he should also get an 8 match ban. So should Terry; and if they really want to send a message then Terry should be permanently dropped from the national team.

If they do all this then fair enough, but I think it is the case that they are making a scapegoat out of Suarez.

  5. Give the FA a chance. Given this demonstration of integrity, there's little chance of John tery escaping with anything less than a lifetime ban from the beautiful game.

  11. Ok Shaka an example has been set ... but does this not open the door for future accusations without any compelling evidence to take place over and over again? What happens tomorrow if someone reports to the FA they had been verbally abused without any evidence? If this is in some way used to get players banned or reputations tarnished? The Suarez / Evra case will probably work against the FA in the long run.

I read the official statement the club released and have to say I am surprised that it was released ... that said I think we are all waiting on the outcome of the John Terry case now...

  18. I'll accept the punishment if Evra gets what he deserves for calling suarez a name  and if John Terry gets what he deserves and stops bull shitting that he was asking the question from Ferdinand !!

    ReplyDelete
  19. If Suarez is guilty then he deserves the punishment. It would be wrong for anyone to comment ahead of the transcript being released. If Suarez is not guilty as per the club statement or there is any ambiguaty in the verdict i.e beyond reasonable doubt, the unless there is a retractionfrom the FA we should withdrawn from there precious Cup.

  22. Evra makes snide comments to Suarez, Saurez replies in kind and is duly tried and lynched by the PC mob. Any chance of Evra being investigated ?
No way - - - That wouldn't be racially acceptable

    ReplyDelete
  23. Suarez admitted what he said so Evra's claims were corrobarated by Suarez himself. The only question relating to these is how Suarez meant it. being that Suarez has lived in northern Europe for 5 years already and certainly is no friend or teammate of Evra's, it's hard to argue that it was said in kinship.

  24. evra is a known twat... end of
what country iss england if ppl are being condemned without real proof being put forward
one day fergie will be shown to be what he really is... the MOGGI of england
there is no way this shite united team should always be at the top of the league... they never have one bad season... thats impossible without some 'help'!!!
what about evra calling suarez 'you south american' in a derogatory manner... isnt that racism?? or do just black people get the racism card to play? south americans are a race are they not???

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't know if you are native to England or have lived here at all, but the fact is that insulting people based on race, religion, sex or sexuality is frowned upon. Suarez was found to have done that and has been punished. Possibly Evra should have been charged for essentially accusing the ref of being a cheat and not presiding the game in a fair manner, but this shouldn't detract from Suarez's punishment. On the plus side, we will have to buy a top class striker now. Maybe we'll have to go for broke for Higuain or Soldado.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Where did he say that??!!?

    ReplyDelete
  27. The 'compelling evidence' was Suarez admitting what he said. The only thing in question was the interpretation of what he said.

    ReplyDelete
  28. No evidence??!!? Suarez admitted it. That ship sailed as soon as Suarez admitted what he said.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Agreed. Suarez should have kept his mouth shut, then it would've been his word against Evra's. He admitted to using a word that could be perceived to be racist *in this country*, so he basically signed his own death warrant.

    ReplyDelete
  30. oh boo hoo, all you unfortunate liverpool fans feel hard done by. Evra didn't make any kind of racist comment. Suarez HAS ADMITTED (please read/steal a newspaper before you post on this joke of a website) that loosely translated, he's admitted calling Evra 'little black boy' which in South America is perfectly acceptable. However, you deluded Liverpool fans don't seem to realize, we live in England. England. Not South America. Not Uruguay. England. You know... Engeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrland? Yes? Feed the Scouuserr... sorry. Feed the Woooooorld. Yes okay.

At the end of the day, he's admitted to that and his only defence was the cultural differences. If a Muslim who believes in Shariah law came and chopped your hands off because you're all a bunch of thieves, I'm pretty certain you wouldn't be very happy if he was let off because of 'cultural differences', now would you? Get your heads from out your very arrogant butterholes and smell the coffee. He is a dirty cheating racist scumbag and he deserves his punishment.

  31. Luis Suarez is not racist, I lved in Uruguay for 10 years and I  was constantly called "negrito", I am very white everyone calls each other negro and neg ra and it is know more than a term of endearment, If Luis had called called negro hijo de puta that is truly gross and racist.  Uruguay is not a racist country and openly celebrates black diversity through its Carnival.

The black Uruguayan people will not be upset because they no he was not being offensive, if he was he had he could only return with a different identity.  It is right hat racism is stopped but by using Suarez as an innocent scrapegoat to prove a point is wrong.  Surely someone like Gus Poyet should have been involved or a little more investiagtion into the different culture.  Suarez is probably traumatised  than upset because he is being labelled something he is not.  The FA got it wrong and this decision needs to be reversed immediately.  Suarez could apologise if he caused offence, but absolutely none was meant.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have said from day one that if either party was found guilty with over whelming evidence then they should be punished.

Clearly in Suarez's case, the FA used Suarez as a scapegoat since they were cowards and showed a lack of determination, effort and justice with the JT racism allegation which is blatant.

Since the FA do not want to be seen by FIFA and other footballing bodies that they are weak, they used Suarez to "show" the world that they are "against" racism. And the world will eat this up.

I'm Portuguese and I can say that if I was called "negrito" I would find it offensive simply because it is just highlighting the persons colour ahead of the person itself. However Portuguese and Spanish are different in terms of meaning. There's a difference between "negro" and " negrito". It is a cultural saying. Negrito is a word of endearment for moreno, morenito, or dark skinned one!

Like if I was to say "brancinho" or "brancito", which mean " little white person " it's a term of endearment and not of prejudice etc...

If these terms are translated into English, then it would sound racist. In Latin countries we have a lot, and I mean a lot of pet names for people, whether is some short, chubby or tanned and even old.

In Nigeria for example, if I say to someone " you are looking fat" it is a complement, meaning that they are looking well, eating good food, living a good life. But in English, you can see it as offensive.

Suarez's mistake however was that because he still is learning the English language, he is still learning the differences in cultural speech. So he might not have known the difference. However 10x as claimed is a bit stupid when nothing is caught on camera. There are several cameras filming the game, surely at least one should have caught this.

However if these words are used sarcastically and on the wrong situation it can be translated as being something offensive to the other party. If Suare'z called Evra " negro" then fine, ban him, but negrito is very different.

But Evra is French so he should be aware of this expression as it's a latin word.

In JT case, he has no excuse because he know's the language and purposely used the term "black" to be offensive. By calling AF a "black ****" then he is using AF's skin colour as a premises for  insult which is prejudice and racism.

So overall the FA have acted incredibly unjustly and have showed partiality  and Liverpool as a club should oppose this to the end simply because of the lack of evidence.

If need be, Suarez should sue the FA( Lack of evidence yet they imposed a punishment, also one of the member of that 3 man committee has close ties with SAF) and Patrice Evra for defamation and wrongly accused.

JT is the one that should have gotten an 8 game ban, fine, stripped of captaincy when evidence is actually "blatant and available" but since the Euros is coming up then they have tried to bend the rules (same with Rooneys ban, a red card for a blatant and motivated foul. The ban should not be reduced. Now Now every player will start to appeal. Remember De Jong vs Sneijder?)

This just proves the FA are in fact biased and partial.

We should wear Team Suarez t-shirts until this case is sorted "JUSTLY".

    Team Suarez!

Here is a man, with an absolutely perfect reputation. A man who's reputation is cleaner than your windows (if they aren't boarded up). His integrity is honorable and he is considered a real sporting good guy. Never hurt anyone, never cheated and a very respected person within the footballing world and you dared to write an article insinuating that he was corrupted by a brief phase of managing Darren Ferguson. You are a disgrace. I hope his attorneys are paying very close attention to the article you wrote and if they find ANYTHING they can sue you for, I hope they take you to court and get this disgusting, vile, website shut down. You scumbags call for the truth about 96 of your friends/family, you hammer the Sun and it's integrity, yet you're happy to smear filth and lies about a man with a reputation far cleaner than most of the scum involved with your dog and pony show of a football club.

  36. And being upfront should count against Suarez...care to comment on Patricia Evra's ban of four games in 2008 for lying about a similar incident?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Possibly Evra should be punished?  Evra admitted to doing the same thing so he deserves an 8 game ban.  There is no possibly.  Wake up, the FA has screwed this up royally.

    ReplyDelete
  38. So I guess denial would prove he is innocent ... If that is the overall basis of the charge, that because he admitted to it he is guilty then it shows in his own mind he thought it was acceptable ... why else would he land himself in trouble? It is a complex case and the FA have taken the route of ignoring the cultural context.

That said whats done is done... I cannot see an appeal being succesful as it would weaken the FA's image....

  39. Agree on the striker purchase... In a quest for 4th KD has a case for significant funds in Jan - Club Captain, player of last season, and player of this season missing a massive amount of important games.

Doubt Higuian will leave Madrid - Would welcome Soldado at the club as he is a good player, hungry and a point to prove (great chance for him to break into the Spain first team)

  40. Hislop said the FA are to applauded ? For what ? For convicting a man based on nothing but the word of a man of dubious reputation. People are not convicted in a court of law on hearsay for very good reasons Suarez has never admitted racially abusing Evra so he did NOT convict himself. WE have the ludicrous situation of white men telling a footballer of mixed race what is racist and what isnt

  42. Evra and Suarez were conversing in Spanish. Evra has admitted calling Suarez a "Sudaca" which is a racist term used by the Spanish against South Americans. Suarez responds "por que negro" (why black man?). So a racial attack by Evra in Spanish gets Suarez banned & fined because what he said is racist in English, and what Evra said in Spanish is not racist in English?

    ReplyDelete
  43. LOL you bloody idiot Hislop. You really think 'Negrito' deserves 8 games? THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO PROVE SUAREZ GUILTY WHATSOEVER.

  44. When did Evra admit to do the SAME thing .. please post credible links ... or else shut your trap.

  45. I'm surprised at Shaka's stance. Shaka is from T&T like me. In T&T we refer to someone of mixed Indian and Negro ethnicity as a "dougla" and someone of mixed Indian and Chinese as "chindian". A light skinned negro is a "reds" or "redman" a darked skinned negro is a "darkie". those terms have no racist tone at all. Isn't negrito/a in Uruguayan the same thing?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Since when did England become the "victim: society.  Pathetic.  Darwin says you will be extinct before too long.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I applaud him for being upfront. I just don't get why fans are ignoring that he admits to saying it. Evra's previous is irrelevant in light of the fact that Suarez hasn't really challenged his statement. To Suarez's credit.

    ReplyDelete
  48. You may not agree with the verdict, but to say that it was an unfair hearing is a bit biased. They took on Evra's testimony and Suarez's testimony. Reportedly they largely concur with each other. To Suarez's credit he admitted that in a radio interview. Evra's testimony would have been almost irrelevant. I would have liked to know if the FA researched racial colloqualism in Uruguay from black Uruguaians perspective to see if this wouldn't have been considered racist. But the mixed race argument is frankly embarrassing. That's like saying you can't be homophobic if your uncle's gay. Life just don't work like that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. That is the most reasonable thing I have read in all responses to this matter. Maybe you should write to the FA for consideration.
