Liverpool FC winger target 'disappointed' with CL 'failure'

Liverpool have been persistently linked with Belgian winger Eden Hazard this season, and after Lille's elimination from the Champions league this week, it's conceivable that Kenny Dalglish may have a better chance of signing the player in January.

Speaking on French TV after the game, Hazard was clearly disappointed after Lille's failure to progress from the Champions League group stages:

"It's a failure, and given the way way we've played, we deserve better than that. In football, it is not always the best teams win, and we saw that tonight.

"The great teams know how to keep going and score in the 90th minute; that may be what we lack. We perhaps want to play the the beautiful game too much, but if we continue like that, we will win more matches.

"I'm disappointed for the players, and for myself, but I'm still glad I played well, but I still have much to learn".

Now that Lille are out of the Champions League, there's arguably no better time to pursue Hazard. Of course, it would all depend on whether FSG would finance the transfer, and indeed whether the Belgian would come to Liverpool, but it's definitely worth a try.

Liverpool legend John Barnes recently acknowledged Liverpool's interest in Hazard, but dismissed the possibility of his signing:

"We have to be realistic about who we can get, and while we have been linked with a lot of big names, such as David Villa, Eden Hazard and Bastein Schweinsteiger, At this moment in time, I don't think they will be coming to Liverpool"
