Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has slammed the FA for appealing against Wayne Rooney's three match ban.
The Man United striker received a straight red card for kicking Miodrag Dzudovic during England's recent 2-2 draw with Montenegro, and his ban was today reduced to two games after an appeal from the FA.
Dalglish, who saw Jay Spearing receive a straight red earlier in the week for a much less serious challenge, argued in his weekly press conference that the FA's entire disciplinary system needed to be looked at:
"I don't think it sets a very good standard that they [the FA] appeal against Wayne's three match ban.
"I think it calls into question their own disciplinary system. Wayne's a fantastic footballer, but it's not as if it was a fifty-fifty challenge that he got sent off for, is it.
"I don't know how they can justify it. If it's a straight red it's three games, and I don't know how they justify diluting it.
"If they can justify diluting Wayne's red card, then everybody else that appeals for a similar sending of in a Premier League game would expect to have their ban reduced.
"It's great news for England that their best player is going to be available for the last game, but I don't think it sets a very good precedent for everybody else"
I think Kenny is spot on here, but given his views, it makes the decision NOT to appeal Jay Spearing's red card even stranger.
Rooney deliberately kicked an opponent; Spearing went for the ball and accidentally took someone down with the follow through. If Rooney can get his ban reduced for deliberate foul play, then surely Liverpool could get Spearing's ban reduced, or even overturned?

Bearing in mind that they have other things to appeal against right now, that are much more crucial, they decided that appealing against 'wee Jay's' red would be a bit to much.
ReplyDeleteI think we were right not wasting our time trying to get Jay's ban reduced. Although he got the ball, he was studs up with both feet of the floor and he did endanger the other player. Rooneys ban should have stood....but he plays for manure which always seems to have more clout in these things. Be interesting to see how the FA deal with an appeal if a Swansea player is in the same situation as Rooney .
ReplyDeleteSorry but if Dagleish was English he wouldnt be saying any of that!! As much as he is right on most things this it doesnt matter if hes right or wrong he shouldnt of got involved!!! great news Rooney is back for a game!!!
ReplyDeleteSam its nothing to do with being English. Kenny is stating that the FA are showing double standards, you muppet!!! And he is right to mention, well said Kenny.
ReplyDeleteFA seems to be biased against Liverpool. I feel a big conspiracy going on against Liverpool. It stinks.
ReplyDeleteits a waste of time appealing to the FA once the charge you, they got their own rules an very rarely change their mind, in fact they have a stupid rule were they can increase the ban as you didn't agree with it, how ridiculous, there more or less saying appeal if you want but you know what could happen. for some reason the FA hate Liverpool an Suarez is also becoming a target for them, it seems we need to overcome the FA an referees before we'll get a decent an fair chance to get back to were we belong. at the top.
ReplyDeleteSomething sinister is going on, Neville and Rooney gave fans the finger yet no action was taken. To say Liverpool can't control our players is an insult to Kenny, the ref was a disgrace but what happens to him??, Nothing!!!. Suarez is vilified for 9 weeks as a RACIST yet his case is yet to be heard, this is a stich-up pure and simple!!!!
ReplyDelete2 sets of rules here, one for MU the another for the rest of the teams in EPL. I call a spade a spade.
ReplyDeleteSorry but who gives a f... about Rooney and England, am English and I even think his 3 game ban should of stood and Jay's rescinded.
ReplyDeleteThe fa are hypocrites. They ban Rooney for two games for swearing then decide to appeal his charge for assault when it suits them.
ReplyDeleteWhy is the threat of increasing a ban ridiculous?
ReplyDeleteIt is there to stop frivolous appeals. Without it everything would be appealed
Does anyone why the Suarez case is taking so long to resolve?
ReplyDeleteyour really a true englishman then arn't you!! Spearing shoudnt be recinded at all!! yeah he won thr ball but he was still going in to do the man as well!! you truly are 1 eyed
ReplyDeletewhy say anything at all always got something to say worry about the shocking players he has and get on with it!!! looking forward to witnessing another great exciting 0-0 tomorrow afternoon
ReplyDeleteHopefully Suarez will now understand that the spotlight is "really, really" on him now, ..but REALLY looking to mindf* him on orders of MU - and he will keep his head down, not only until all this blows over, but for good... unless he wants to spend a long time grazing around the bench... FA is certainly totally dodge with the double standards on this matter.
ReplyDeleteThey're probably still looking for evidence - maybe asking Evra baby suppporters to send in mobile phone videos or something to go on, but there is squat.. so, yea, it will be dropped eventually unless Evra brings in a vile of tears that can be carbon dated to that terrible night where he thought he may have been racially abused ... haaa
